They used to maintain a deer feeder in the dog rest area and we enjoyed seeing the deer. It is still a convenient place to stop for fuel, but it is NOT AS NICE as it was before.

We were greeted by a bunch of friendly people that were working at the checkout registers. They have a whole bunch of merchandise you can look at or purchase, a lot of food options, snacks, a variety of fountain drink flavors to choose from, coffees, Icee flavors and so much more. They have clean bathrooms with a lot of stalls, that are stocked with toilet paper, paper towels, and soap. During this trip my husband got a pineapple flavored fizzy drink. He said he can't find anything like it anywhere else. I tried it and it was super sweet. I purchased a large rice crispy treat that they sold by the register at the checkout. It lasted me a few days and was delicious. On a side note we did visit in the late afternoon after 7:00 pm so we didn't really have to deal with overcrowding but there was still quite a few people there. Overall Buc-ee's was a good stopping place to walk around and browse or buy items. They have very friendly people working there and it's a good place to take a bathroom break during a road trip.

So many things happening in this place - people making fudge, candied nuts, all kinds of jerkee; a huge BBQ station where employees shout out every time they either make or sell a sandwich? All kinds of fun merchandise - from clothes to shoes, to toys - a full gift shoppe. Employees are amazing - engaged, kind, energetic - definitely seem to care about what they do. Management salaries are posted out front for hiring purposes - pay is real high which is great, but even better, seems like those managers are doing a great job leading employees for that $$$ So, if you ever see a Buc-ee's I recommend you go in and see it - it's pretty hard to explain but it is quite something.

This time instead of exploring their packaged snack products I thought about how much room we have left in our car and flying it home so I decided against it. It tasted so good I had hubs go get me a large size one since I didn't eat a normal lunch and it was past 5 pm. While I waited in the car with the grandpup. I wanted to find some Bucee items for Doc since she's been our road trip driver plus made all the arrangements for hotels, tickets to parks, dinner show, etc. We all got different things: hubs got small bags of jerky, Doc got her favorite brisket sandwich to share with her Frenchie, a sausage on a stick and 3 peach cobblers for each of us to try. Its consistency is like mush, and not like muscle fibers. There was nothing lean brisket vs fatty brisket. The brisket had holes throughout, making it look even more like an ultra processed deli meat or even lab grown. I was disgusted, to say the least. They also have ZERO options for people conscious of the ingredient lists. We bought popcorn and the bag was open at the bottom. I opted the top and it was super stale. I realized it was open on the bottom and the store game me a hard time about exchanging it. It's pretty clear the sealing process failed for this bag. We won't be shopping here anymore, nor will we eat their food. But if you're visiting Texas and come across one, it's a fun stop to pass time.

Definitely not your typical dry, flavorless gas station. This chicken is crunchy, tender, and juicy. It's very reasonably priced. Sunny reached out to a customer, Alex (I'd post his last name but I didn't ask permission), at his store who graciously took time out of his own day to bring me gas where I was stuck on the highway. He did not have to do that; nor did Sunny have to ask anyone. There wasn't anything in it for them. They both showed their true kindness and are people that work to keep human kindness moving forward. I'm not in Lockhart very often but will definitely go to this gas station when I need gas or a drink.

It's easy to access off the feeder, and the parking lot is laid out in a way that helps reduce traffic. The mcdonalda here has its own drivethrough. It also has a big seating area and several ordering screens so you don't get stuck in a line. The restrooms are spacious and clean. I wish they had paper towels in addition to the air dryers but unfortunately they don't. The convenience store has all the usual things and some extra gift shopping items. They do now have electric car chargers ! However, they could use more gas pumps. They have a reasonable amount but here (more than other places) people will leave their car parked in a spot to go inside and there's often a wait. One of my favorite things (as someone who travels with dogs) is they have a lot of nice grassy areas not directly on the busy feeder road.
