Food was VERY good!! We had a hard time deciding what we were okay with finishing there while we sat and what to take to go because it was all so good! Pancakes are big and fluffy, very yummy! Service at first was a bit slow, but we noticed the main chef was working extremely hard, moving with a purpose, and calling food orders ready. We noticed the staff in the front were working very hard and on multiple tasks, While remaining calm and very polite to the guest. So we began to understand why the service was a bit slow, but by the time we took the first bite of our food we realized we would have waited a lot longer and not cared. If driving between houston and Austin - just stop at this cute cafe. Grab a maple bacon scone or orange cranberry baked treat with a latte and be on your way. Totally worth the 5 min detour! I got a breakfast taco, a few scones for home, and of course the latte. Everything was delicious. Might have been one of the best breakfast tacos I've had with fresh, fluffy eggs and thick, crispy cuts of bacon. Nice size too - 1 would have been enough for 2 people to share, if it wasn't so delicious. Loved the vibe of the cafe and would stop again. read more

Super cute little breakfast spot we opted for when Comfort Cafe was unexpectedly closed. Tried several breakfast options but the Cinnamon Roll won the day! Flaky and warm--just a delight with coffee!! Pancakes were big and fluffy-looking, but a little "gummy." Omelette was FULL of meat and not over-cooked. Yum! Pretty standard Southern fare otherwise. We didn't get the (enormous) biscuit-n-gravy, but I watched the table next to ours put away their leftovers and I got a little jealous! I can eat @oldeworldbakerytx potatoes and drink their cold brew all day. It's only our 2nd time eating here and we can see why they're so popular. Dr. Pete was a huge fan of the stuffed burrito. They make their bread from scratch. Even though they were a little busy, they didn't slack on southern charm and quality care of their customers. Drove from Bastrop to Smithville to eat breakfast here because I had breakfast the day before (at a later time than today) and enjoyed it. So I came back to try something different for breakfast. I arrived around 10:25 AM. There was a couple in front of me in line and the one girl taking orders was on the phone taking a really long order and completely ignoring the couple who had been patiently waiting to have their order taken. They finally had enough and left. I stood and waited for an additional 5 minutes. In the meantime 2 employees were doing nothing. One was eating the other just standing around. I placed my order and the girl hollered back into the kitchen "We still cooking breakfast" they holler back "no"...after I had waited 20 minutes. It was 10:45 AM. Mind you the breakfast menu is written on a chalkboard with the lunch items, aren't differentiated, and nothing states a "breakfast" stopping time in the restaurant or on their website. Had breakfast the day before after 11:00 AM. I sat outside to write a review and the 3 people in line behind me also walked out. Sorry but nothing stood out to me about Olde World. When we walked in, the restaurant smelled horrible, like a grease pit, and the air was hazy. Luckily, there were 2 tables out on the sidewalk, one of which was vacant for us to use. The people working there (the owners?) didn't mention anything about it so makes me wonder if it was normal. Actually, the guy working the register didn't greet us at all. Just took our order. The woman who brought out our food was friendly. We ordered a turkey sandwich with avocado to share between the 2 of us. It was a huge sandwich that was just average tasting - a huge portion of meat (I'd guess easily 10 oz) mounded in the middle of two giant, thin slices of wheat bread, with too much mustard and a tiny amount of avocado. Nothing special about any of it. Next time I'm in Smithville, I'd like to try one of their baked goods. They looked delicious. I'll just pass on the sandwich. read more

We stopped in for lunch on our way from Houston to Fredericksburg. The club sandwich was very good and nicely put together and even the garden salad had fresh greens and beautiful tomatoes and an interesting selection of dressings.
