The performances were incredible involuntarily saying "Wow" over and over again through the evening. It's well thought out and I felt it does a amazing job of painting the beautiful and history and story of each act The acts are well thought out and the set design is phenomenal! They were all out of this world. I wish the show could of gone longer. I think they should of made it go a little longer the main negative about it i would say would be the price for food and drinks. I thought i was in with the prices for food. Make sure you come with a full stomach and not too hungry. The animals and insect costumes were so unique in itself, to The slow water scene, and even the contortionists towards the end that made everyone wonder "does he have a spine i was like this guy can do pretty much anything?!". And wait til you get to the soccer ball scene that guy is out of this world. i mean wow !! I wanted to check if the guy had glue on the edge of his shoe to hold it on while he was throwing himself around with some bboy moves! Off the edge of your seat, hoping it doesn't end. I would say this is a perfect show to talk out someone on a date too . If your looking for something fun to do on a city night. And the Juggler common man i mean how amazing was he .The guy killed and had great music to go with. I could of just spent the whole night watching these acts. This is definitly something i would recommend doing and going too. this is great for a date night. and some thing special to do . Make sure do dress up so you can fit with everybody else. I felt like i was in vegas. I would also have to say no matter where you seat you will be able to see the show perfect . I mean seating in the middle row is always nice. tickets are very pricey . but make sure you choose seats right in front way better view if you want to be able too see everything perfect.

Incredibly stunning show packed with amazing acts that make you go "waaaaaah". Beautiful costumes, per usual, paired with live music really completed the program. The stage spins so it's easy to view each act without having to crane your neck if you have seats towards the side. Show runs for a little over 2 hours.

What better way to showcase a country's culture than by song, dance, and art. Luzia was such a beautiful celebration of Mexican culture! **SPOILER ALERT** Luzia told an Alice in Wonderland story by which the clown goes "down the rabbit hole" and finds himself in a place unknown with magic and wonderful creatures. I liked that the clown was miming the whole time, because as a means of highlighting the Mexican culture, the only language used entirely during the show was Spanish. Without speaking, the clown did an excellent job of telling a story and acting out comedy. Bravo, clown! I loved everything about the Luzia set and stage. I caught myself looking at very small details, such as the butterflies fluttering or the sharks on the walls simulating the feeling of being under water. The moving conveyor belt was certainly something I've never seen before. It was cool how the stage rotated to provide you a 360 view of the performances. I've also never seen water introduced to a set before, and it added such a raw element of beauty to the performances. While the overall show was great, there were certainly some segments that I enjoyed more than the others. Unfortunately the bird acrobats at the beginning had a few fumbles, and that's totally OK. But perfection is what sets apart a Cirque du Soleil show in Vegas. Nonetheless, I found that all of the performers showed great athleticism and skill! Here are my top 3 acts of the night: I loved the performance with the three girls in the forest. There was a lot of action going on, but I admittedly was way more captivated by the girls with the spinning hoops than the aerial girl. The spinning hoops just looked like so much fun! Another top 3 performance for me was the man doing the aerial tricks with a single strap. This is one of the water performances that I found just utterly beautiful, and I was just in so much awe of his strength since he did most of the aerial work with one arm. He also did some convincing acting by his interactions with the lioness prop. Lastly, I loved the contortionist. I was probably catching flies with my mouth dropped open the entire time. He blew my mind.

Another great Cirque and better than Corteo IMHO. This one hand a lot of new acrobatic acts and some spins on some older ones. The speed juggler was fantastic and spun his juggling pins faster than I have seen anyone juggle. The music that accompanied the act was fantastic. All the music was excellent. The band was playing a tuba, trumpet, cavaquino/uke 4 string and a 12 string uke body style instrument I need to figure out, among other instruments like mariachi shakers. This Cirque incorporates a lot of water and a massive computer controlled waterfall that makes pictures with water as it falls. The guy that did his act in and out of the water on a set of ropes was fantastic. The contortionist was the most extreme I have seen ever. He was more flexible that any women I have seen doing contortion. Freakishly skinny with bones showing all over, this guy was like a stick of gum, bending any way you can imagine. If you love Cirque you won't be dissapointed by this one. The song of this review is Flores En El Desierto. See it and you'll understand why. 5 stars and a standing ovation

Attended this show last week and was excited to attend as it is inspired by the Mexico's amazing culture and colors. Parking: I read the reviews about parking so I knew what my options were, $20 in a lot or street parking. We were lucky enough to find parking about a block and a half away. Not too bad and it was a nice night for a walk anyway. Show: The show was amazing! The acts and people are so talented and the decor of the show was beautiful. It was non-stop entertainment and they got the crowd involved too. Some of the acts made you hold your breath because of the risky stunts and others you just sat there with amazement on your face. I would definitely recommend this show for anyone and everyone. The show was a little over 2 hours with a 20 minute intermission. Venue: Never having been here before, I didn't know what to expect, but the venue was nice and clean. They had several bathroom stations with multiple stalls. They offered the usual overpriced show food (nachos, hot dogs, popcorn, etc.) so I definitely would have liked to see some other options as it was inspired by Mexico, some ethic food would have been nice. They had a few bar stations where they had beer, wine and vodka with a variety of mixers. I ordered a moscow mule, which was $15. I knew I would overpay, but $15 bucks! The bartender also acknowledged the drinks were overpriced, so although the drink was good, I did not order another. Seats: We sat in section 6, which was off to the side of the stage. We paid about $53 for our seats and I personally think anywhere here is a good seat. Some tickets were super expensive, so I am happy we went with the cheaper tickets, and still had a great view of the show. The stage also rotated, so that helped too. My overall experience was great and I look forward to seeing other shows here in the future.

Luzia was the first Cirque Du Soleil show that I ever saw. The show was fantastic. The performers were excellent. The acrobats were amazing and the comic relief was hilarious. But the show is more than the performers, it was visually and aurally pleasing. The costumes were beautiful and stunningly colorful and the music added to the enjoyment. The acts loosely follow the storyline of a man who jumps out of a plane and lands in a strange land that becomes fantastical after winding a giant key in the ground. The first act starts with a woman dressed as a monarch butterfly with giant fabric wings running on a giant treadmill, followed by people in a giant metallic horse costume. With the music playing, the center stage rotating, the attack on the senses is overwhelming. Simply beautiful and captivating! My favorite act was the second one, where a woman in a pink leotard is thrown in the air by three men in white suits. She starts off in a very relaxed posed while she is thrown high in the air and performs various spins and flips. It was suspenseful and yet she makes it seem so effortless and elegant. I enjoyed all of the acts. Each one had a central focus with some things going on in the periphery. I found it difficult to determine what to focus on because there was just so much to look at. I was seated along the side, so I saw the next act preparing to get on stage, which I think took my focus away as well. As others have suggested, sitting as close to center is the best option, even with a stage that rotates. Not all of the acts use the rotating stage. Between the acts is the comic relief, which focuses on the man who we saw jump out of a plane at the beginning. He had me laughing many times. Overall, Luzia was a wonderful experience. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Can't get any better than experiencing a Cirque du Soleil show in it's birthplace of Montreal! We just happened to be vacationing in this cool city the week that Luzia was still here during a limited run. I booked some last minute day of performance tickets on my phone and we were on our way just an hour before the start. We scored amazing seats. The show was fantastic, and as Cirque fans who have seen many shows we were delighted with this performance under the big top tent. So many times we were saying WOW or laughing out loud. As with so many of their shows it is filled with wonderment. Amazing stage images, set design, costumes, singers, music, acrobats, clowns, and athletic feats. Each show such as Luzia has a storyline that is partly mixed of fantasy, emotion, dreams, humor, humanity, struggle, redemption, and love. Some of it can also be like a long strange drug trip, LOL! The attached tents offered items to buy, snacks, food, popcorn, clothes and more. Easy access to many bathrooms set up. Booze available too such as champagne. Very well run and organized. Cirque did a great job as always. So worth seeing if you get the chance.

Cirque du Soleil's Luzia show finally made its way to Atlanta. Usually located in the back area of Atlantic Station in the Grand Chapiteau, parking here can be hectic. You'll want to park around the purple section on P2. Bring your parking ticket with you so you can pay before heading out of the lot. Luzia is easily one of my favorites. My partner and I went during opening weekend and had an incredible time. I've seen a few shows in the past - Totem, Amaluna, and Kurious. Out of all the shows, this one incorporates the use of water. Favorite scenes are: the Cyr Wheel, Songs/Pole Dancing, Adagio, and Aerial Straps based on their website (https://www.cirquedusoleil.com/luzia). Any of the scenes incorporating the clown was hilarious - he did great! The performers, music, and scenes were beautiful. Cirque du Soleil showcased the culture of Mexico well!

I can always count on Cirque Du Soleil to do many things in one show: -- Wow me with pageantry, wonderful music, and visual beauty -- Tell a story -- Make me laugh (The clowns are not your typical circus norm - there's always something twisted or bizarre that I enjoy) -- Show me something new and different -- Make me say "wow!", or "unbelievable!" about every 5 minutes Luzia, which is a story of a fantasy voyage to Mexico, delivered on all those counts, and I thoroughly enjoyed the show with my daughter and 2 dozen yelpers at a YEE event. Though the seats were fantastic, it looked to me like it would be really hard to find a bad seat here. The space was very well-designed and the stage was typically rotating so that everyone was getting a good angle at some point during each act. I won't list the details of every, single act. but all the performers were wonderfully skilled and amazingly strong, as usual. (Five words: I Want Their Core Workout!) Most were acrobats, but there was also an acrobatic "strongman", a juggler and an absolutely amazing contortionist. Combined with spectacular costumes and colorful sets, the effect was often breathtaking. As for the new stuff? [Geek Mode ON] The use of an on-stage waterfall curtain was the most amazing new development, at least for me. The CDS engineers created a high-tech circular stage, perforated with tiny holes, and with a giant catch-basin underneath. This water was pumped to an outside system that cleaned and warmed the water before pumping it upstairs again to a computer-controlled waterfall generator (not sure what else to call it). SPOILER ALERT: Control of individual streams in the waterfall curtain was so precise they could even generate intricate patterns in the falls. Somewhat mind-blowing to see for the first time. I also loved the use of animal puppets, including a horse and a jaguar. I'd seen similar human-controlled contraptions in the Lion King musical. but never at Cirque before. I loved the vibe they added to a circus that typically never employs beasts. This was the perfect way to fill that gap. The only downside for me was the rampant commercialism and markups typical for CDS shows: For instance: no beverages were allowed in, and no drinking fountains were provided, and so they sold small bottles of water for FIVE dollars each. (Geez. no need to rub our noses in it). But this was merely an annoyance, not a huge issue. All in all, this was an above-average Cirque Du Soleil show for me, and I was happy not to miss it before it leaves the area. The last showing in San Jose is March 19.

DOV: 02/14/2017 We went to this place to celebrate our 4th Valentine's night together. And the primary reason which brought us to this circus was our recently discovered love for everything Mexican :) This was the first Cirque that we witnessed in their tents. The tents already amazed us while we were driving around the area to find public parking. Parking: We found a parking spot after 10 mins of hunting around and it was a reasonable 10 min walk from their tent. As soon as we entered, there were lots of people taking pictures with the tent/set-up and the truck that has Luzia cover picture on it. Tickets: We bought the cheapest tickets from their website and got 20% discount with a Costco gift card for Cirque Seating: Although with the cheapest tickets, the view from our seats (2nd from the topmost row on one end of the half circle) was excellent. Show: The show lasts for around 2 hr 10 min with a 30 min intermission. All the performers did an amazing, breath-taking job. I even skipped a heart beat while watching these performances. To name a few - the beginning of the show with the butterflies act, the water fall formations, the performers on the swing, the contortionist, the girls doing the acts with hula hoop, the juggler, the stage, the backdrop, the music everything was just so worth it. (I am sorry to have missed a lot of performers amazing performances - everyone deserves a standing ovation, you guys were just beyond amazing!) Food/Snacks: They have pop corn, chips and salsa, hot dogs, drinks available during the interval. Restrooms: The crew have made an arrangement for lots of rest-rooms in the huge tent itself, but the lines were huge. So make sure to address nature's call before you arrive to this place. There are some photo booths worth spending time on, rather than standing in these huge lines ;) Both of us loved it and highly recommend it to all our friends and family. An absolutely must watch!

Luzia's colorful production draws from Mexican culture, sports, costume, & song. The story revolves around a man who falls from the sky & lands in Mexico; this character provides most of the comedic scenes typical to Cirque. His never-ending quest for water -- to drink it, to swim in it -- rouses both sympathy and laughs from the audience. The water motif takes center stage in the form of impressive waterfall patterns, rain, a simulated ocean, & pools that go from deep to shallow then deep again in the blink of an eye. Strongmen, jugglers, giant hoola hoops, trapeze artists, and stunts performed on conveyor belts dot the two-hour show, but the acts that stand out in my memory are the contortionist (bendable to the extreme), and the giant horse; its realistic movements a result of several amazing humans working in harmony to create smooth gallops & strides. 25-minute intermission.

Review #229 - 2016 I was sitting at home with no intent of going anywhere since it's a Tuesday night, until my older brother texted me around 5'ish asking me if I wanted to go see a Cirque du Soleil show in San Francisco. I asked him when the show was and he said "tonight at 7:30." One can only imagine what traffic into SF is like at peak traffic time so I was hesitant about accepting the tickets from him, but I know how much my brother really loves me & it would make him happy to know that I enjoyed the show so I told him I would go. My son didn't want to go since it's a school night so I ended up taking my brother's son instead. We showed up at about 7:45, looked for parking (which cost us $25 for about 2.5 hours) and made our way through security. The show had already started, but they were still kind enough to seat us while the show was going on. Unfortunately, since it was so dark the person who guided us to our seats took us to the wrong seats. Thank goodness no one was sitting there. The first half of the show was just ok in my honest opinion. It was kind of slow and didn't have much interaction. We went out during break time and came back to search for our seats, which happened to be premium seats...had we known. The seats would've cost us about $175/each easily. We were so disappointed that we were seated at those crappy seats before. The second half of the show was very fun and entertaining. I really enjoyed it a lot! If I had to pay for the tickets myself, I probably would've been really disappointed about the seat mix up and the show not being as good in the beginning. But since these were a gift, I definitely appreciated them very much!

    Luzia - amazing year's show!

Another fab year for Cirque, Luzia did not disappoint! The costumes and choreography are outstanding - story line is around a guy ( clown ) who skydives into the land of Luzia, Mexico & meets all the aquatic & mystical wildlife that inhabit the land And as far as the amount of clown-time?? It's totally minimal which scores extra bonus points in my book - for those making comments about too much, you must be a newbie to Cirque Acrobatics included birds jumping through hoops; swimmers & lifeguards performing incredible balancing acts; peacocks performing super feats on the pole / trapeze; a snake performing all kinds of body contortions; swinging beams with flipping and diving and lots of hanging ropes with the associated twisting / balancing. These people are amazing! And did someone mention water?!?! Throughout the show, there was water falling on the artists in comical skits, acrobatic skits - eek, don't slip!, & the water even took center stage ( don't know HOW it fell in those patterns!! ) We were super-impressed & loved this year's show for the artistry & focus on physicality & feats of sheer strength

The only (small) downside is finding parking. We parked in an outdoor lot 2 blocks away for $20. It is about the average rate for the area but still seems steep to me for a 2 hour show. *breathe* Trying to not sweat the small stuff, so I say pay for the steep parking and enjoy the gorgeous theater and watch a nice show! But, the California Theatre is easy to find, and perfect to walk to from parking or a restaurant. Even in the entrance way before you walk in (where there's the Box Office for will-call or day-of tickets), you see the elegance and grandeur that awaits. Still, there's nothing stuff about it at all. Every staff member or volunteer I encountered was helpful, friendly, and welcoming. There happened to be live music in the Lobby before and after the performance. Refreshments are found on each floor. We had Orchestra Seats. The opera looked and sounded crisp. The singing, the set, the orchestra, the costumes all radiated excitement and serious fun. This particular opera, by Bela Bartok, is rarely done and having some familiarity with the composer, I was excited to check it out. Very much enjoyed the opera, and the venue. If you are an SJSU student, ask about tickets and/or big discounts available at the Box Office.

They also have a little get together after every performance. They have refreshments and you have the chance to talk to the actors. We didn't stay afterwards but maybe next time. John surprised me by wanting to get tickets for the next show. Maybe I can get him to try musicals one day...

It's All an Act…read more Foreword: So, it turns out I kind of like plays. I mean, I recall enjoying watching theater friends perform at school and college back in the day, but I've never actually gone out to see a real live play with professional actors. Anyway, if you're on the fence about coming to see one, then you should definitely do it once. And if you really dig it, do it twice. :) OK, onto the review... The City Lights Theater Company has been supporting local actors and theater makers for forty-five years (ca. 1982) now, and have been in this space since 1991--despite a looming threat from developers... The Good: *Very small intimate venue of ±100 seat theater. There is no bad seat in the house, as even in the back row you still feel like you're practically front row. *Tickets are fairly inexpensive at ±$50-80/ea with season passes available. There's also afternoon matinee shows available for us old farts. *Staff was very friendly *They have a small snack bar and even serve wine *A chance to interact with the performers at the end of the show. *We watched "Running After Shadows" by Vincent Terrell Durham and it was excellent. Great story telling, fantastic acting, and it takes the crowd on a wild range of emotions. The Meh: *Street Parking only but it's free on the weekends. The Ugly: *They must start cutting onions in there at some point, cuz I swear my eyes started watering for no reason. That's right. No reason whatsoever. Conclusion: Intimate venue with great storytelling means a great time out by all. Good spot for a date nite or afternoon (see aforementioned "old farts" mention above).
