The salon is pretty / well decorated and my stylist was kind and gave me a decent cut. Unfortunately, I came in with very healthy / strong hair and left with bleach fried hair that broke off my bangs and was so over processed that it looked grey / white (I've got light brown / dark gold hair). I had it assessed by a different salon, who told me that it clearly appeared the stylist had over processed my hair, starting with foils / bleach from the front when she should have started processing from the back of my head. Came here to get my color and extensions done by Maddie, she is the best! She specializes with blondes and is a wizard with color. It's even better than how I imagined, how often does that happen?! She's really personable and the time just flew by in her chair. She is honest and tells you what is achievable and she uses the best color to keep your hair integrity intact. All my fellow bleach gals, know the importance of this...especially if you want to keep it long and strong! I get so many compliments on my hair, people literally stop me to ask where I get it done. This is one of those reviews that I'm both thrilled and scared to write. I'm thrilled to support Santiago, who is the guardian angel of my hair. And I'm scared he will get too booked to see me! I found Santiago at his previous salon when he was randomly assigned to me. How lucky was I? He understands my curls as only another curly haired person can. On top of that, he is just a lovely human being, warm, real, and intelligent. When he left the salon where we met, the folks there would not share his forwarding address. So I hunted him down on social media. In the weeks before I found him again someone else cut my hair. I was miserable. Santiago fixed it, even though it was much shorter than usual. What a relief. My hair looks great no matter what I do. I swim, I roll out of bed late, I run out of product - doesn't matter. When you have a great cut, you can get away with a lot (and I do). So go see him. My hair takes awhile so I got to watch quite a few people walk in looking good, but walking out looking AMAZING!!! And me too! I left there feeling like I was glowing. I've come here a couple of times now to see Jasmin, and I seriously cannot recommend her enough! On the first visit, she corrected a brassy/orange tone left behind by a stylist from another salon and brought me to a beautiful golden brown color instead. I had been in the salon right before quarantine closed it. So this review is a long time coming, because I had to see how my hair would develop! I put 3 pictures of my hair before, after, and 3 months. Please get Chrissy if you want that big blonde hair change! In the first picture I had pretty brown hair and getting blonde in one session would be very complicated, but it was made possible! I had asked for a fully blonde transformation and to leave a little root out so that I wouldn't have to come back every couple of weeks for a touch up. She did such a great job blending it in naturally that after 3 months of it growing it out, I have a nice natural blonde and no choppy roots. Chrissy was extremely professional and such a sweet lady. The salon is very beautiful and a nice place to be when you are sitting for a long hair session. If you want a guaranteed quality hair experience, ask for Chrissy and go to Citizen Salon! read more

Dawn is hands down the best stylist I've ever gone to; my hair is that sort of unruly-looks-like-a- messed-up- perm curly. I don't live in Lafayette but make an extra effort to go to Dawn, and she is worth it. I'm one of these people who brings in pictures of hairstyles I like and Dawn will always be honest with me as to how the cut will work with my face shape and hair texture. She also has the uncanny ability to "work" a style I want into my hair type. I've gone from quite long to very short styles. And have had to really convince Dawn when I've wanted to "hack it all off" but she's usually game. It is always so much fun to go to the salon, talk to Dawn, and watch all the wonderful stylists at Citizen. I highly recommend Agnes. She has been my hair dresser for almost three years now and I am never disappointed. It can be hard to find a stylist that makes blond highlights look natural, but Agnes is great. She always listens to my requests and meets what I am looking for. When my last hair dresser moved away I didn't think I would find someone I trusted, but I fully trust Agnes with my hair every time, and she never gives me grief when I wait too long to come in! This salon is so cozy and has a great relaxing vibe! I've been to other salons that feel stuffy and pretentious. This place is exactly the opposite! I highly recommend Maddie for color.. especially if you are blonde or going blonde. She has a real talent with color! I drive all the way from Mountain View just to have her color my hair. It looks perfect every time, and I get numerous compliments on my color. Jon loves to give women sexy hair, and never fails to give me my best look. I have sent so many girlfriends to him, they are thrilled with his work! DAWN is an AMAZING/DETAILED stylist. I'm picky to say the least. I've seen a few stylists in the bay and no one was able to decipher and execute my needs the way Dawn has. I say needs and not vision because my vision is not what my hair needed. This woman knows how to use her scissors and really listen to you. In the end she tackled all of my needs while giving me the DETAILED CUT I was looking for. I've been growing my hair out from a jaw-length A-line trying to get it long again. Every time i went to someone explaining i was trying to grow it out and they cut it back TOO short. I decided i would grow out my hair till it was intolerable in hopes someone could give me that lengthy cut. My hair is natural straight/blonde with a bit of volume. I came in showing a shaggy faux A-line thinking that'd be the next step in the process and asked for razor "thinking" worked best with my hair from past experience. Dawn is a guru and listened to me instead of just giving me the picture. She said no razor, it would be intolerable to grow out (creating splitting ends with time). She cut it into this beautiful textured shaggy look that will no doubt grow out easy and still be fab without taking ANY length off! My hair feels longer then it did when i walked in (and so healthy)! When she finished the cut i loved it but she asked me if i wanted it to be a little more edgy with shorter layers more rocker-esk. Its like she was reading my mind. She took the extra 5 minutes to make it perfect. I'm beyond stoked. She told me to give it as long as i could growing it out before i came back, not trying to push me into coming back when its not necessary. Dawn, your sheers brought my swagger back. Thank you!! Horrendous Customer Service and Accountability! I initially scheduled a consultation with Bethany after my previous stylist & colorist (Morgan & Jasmine) left Citizen Salon. Waited two weeks for a simple 10 min consultation and then another 2 weeks for the actual appointment that was scheduled today for 2pm. I was not greeted when I walked into the salon at 2pm and then someone finally asked if I had been "checked-in" at 2:15 to which I replied No. At 2:30 I was still waiting so I had asked another stylist if she could check w/ Bethany to see if there was a scheduling mistake. Was told that it would be a few more minutes as the previous client was asking for some adjustments. Bethany had not bothered to greet me or let me know she was running behind schedule. I finally left at 2:40. ZERO accountability and respect for my time from Bethany on this-she did not even bother to call and apologize. It's really a bummer that I can't find a quality, reliable hair salon in my own community. If you are looking for a nice, first-class salon pass on this one! read more
