We celebrated our anniversary with dinner at this lovely restaurant. We live in the neighborhood and have been anxious to give it a try. The food was delicious, service top notch and very attentive. The restaurant itself is elegant, yet comfortable. Only draw back was the two large TVs over the bar, that were on throughout our meal and very visually distracting. It gave the feeling of being in a sport's bar and detracted from the dining experience. Not at all what I would have expected in such a nice restaurant. If I want a sport's bar, I can visit one about a mile south. This is my only hesitation in suggesting this otherwise great restaurant. We had dinner @ Citrine last night. With our busy schedules, we were really looking forward to this. DO not expect street parking, you might as well go directly to the parking garage a block away. The interior is really impressive. The only eye soar are the 2 big screen tv's over the bar showing sports. The tv's shouldn't be on during dinner, I found it a bit intrusive. The waitress started off attentive but eventually the service went down hill. I felt like she was bored. I had the Whitefish. It was very bland, it tasted like they forgot to season it. My friend had the Amish chicken, he said it was a bit dry but tolerable. Now this is when service went downhill. After the busboy cleaned to dinner dishes off our table, we sat for almost 15 mins waiting for out server to return. We asked the busboy who was clearing the table next to us if he could bring me another glass of wine. He was so sweet, he ordered it for us right away, and then our waitress reappeared and poured it. She seemed offended that we asked someone else. She disappeared again, so we made eye contact with out now favorite busboy and asked for dessert menu's. We finally placed our dessert order with the candle lighter. Of course this was when the disappearing waitress reappeared. We finally finished dinner, and had to signal anybody but "where oh where could our waitress be" that we were ready for the check. We paid right away because no telling how long it may have been before she surfaced again. Over-all, the food could be over looked. The restaurant is new we'll give the food a second chance, but if we are seated in Carmen San Diego's area, we will quickly ask to be seated somewhere else. read more

Appetizers good. But meal came to a standstill when we got the entrée - shared whole Amish chicken. Picture catching Boston Market on a bad day. Overcooked. Dry. Tasteless. Disappointing for a dish that's more than $30. Mentioned to server and manager. Total disinterest. Took the remainder home (almost whole thing). Dog enjoyed it immensely. 9 of us enjoyed brunch at Citrine today. Between the 9 of us, we managed to order a wide variety of brunch offerings. From the heart healthy egg white omelet to the decadent French toast we did not have a dissatisfied diner at our table. We started off with bloody marys. Fabulous!! They had just the right amount of heat and the fresh rosemary was delightful. The service was stellar and the atmosphere was contemporary without having a "chill" to it. I will also add that we have some definite foodies in this group so achieving a five star doesn't always happen. Do yourself a favor and eat here!!! read more

Citrine has received a lot of rave reviews and I was looking forward to trying it. What a disappointment from the minute we were seated. I asked the waiter for a rum and Coke with dark rum (not an unusual cocktail request, I think) and he was quite stymied and indicated what size glass he would use although I had requested a tall glass. The ice was cloudy and the soda was quite flat. My companion and I knew exactly what we wanted to order, one whitefish and one hangar steak, but the waiter attempted to dissuade us and for some reason unfathomable to us he suggested that we order a larger fish entree for both of us to share. We stuck to our guns and our entrees actually arrived in record time. Unfortunately, the frites were quite underdone, the steak was inexplicably tepid and the fish was a bit translucent. We decided to skip dessert. Won't be back. read more

I finally made it to this new Oak Park restaurant. The menu was diverse with creative selections. Our server, who was attentive but not intrusive recommended the beef short ribs. We were not disappointed. The portions were ample. We also had the mushroom risotto which was excellent. For sides we had the brussel sprouts with bacon butter and the carrots. They were excellent also. I ordered the squash soup which was somewhat bland and had to send it back since it was only warm. In addition the short ribs were only warm also. While dinner for 4 came to apx $ 200 not including drinks. I would try it again but was disappointed with the meal not being hot. Otherwise I'd given it 4 stars. read more

We tried this place for the first time last night -- a birthday dinner. The bartender and wait staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was outstanding! Lamb sausages appetizer was spicy and savory and altogether delicious! Entrees we tried included Steak Frites, Rack of Lamb and Pork Shanks, plus Brussels Sprouts to share. Great suggestions for wine pairing. Everyone tried everything, and all agreed the food was fab! Pricey, but we'll go again for sure! read more

I've been here for Sunday brunch twice and both times it was exceptionally good. Head and shoulders above any other brunch spot in Oak Park. Worth the little bit higher price compared to other local spots. It's more of a "dining experience" than just "going out to eat". read more

I had a great experience at Citrine! We walked in carrying a birthday gift bag, and the owner/manager who sat us, noticed this and asked whose birthday it was. Moments later, our server came over, introduced herself, and brought two complimentary glasses of prosecco in honor of the birthday we were celebrating. Every single employee we came in contact with (our server, food runners, bussers, the owner/manager) was exceedingly kind and helpful. They all checked on us multiple times. Our waitress was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and very attentive with regards to our drink refills and anything else we needed. The food was delicious! I had the Slagel Farms burger, which was cooked exactly to my liking and had great flavors. The burger came with fries which were well seasoned and perfectly crispy. My mom ordered the Amish chicken, which she said was also very good. We shared the patatas bravas side - also excellent. The chicken dish and burger were both generous portions. At the end of the meal, we received a complimentary dessert - also for the birthday we were celebrating. The restaurant was very busy (it was a Friday night around 7 PM) but the service was excellent even though they were quite busy. I very much enjoyed the food, atmosphere, and service and am already planning my next visit back. read more

Maybe I ordered the wrong menu item in the special of the day which was the paella. Driest paella I have ever experienced. The dish was so dry, that half of the mussels were empty and the shrimp was rubbery. Too bad. The music outside was wonderful but I don't think I'd go back for the food. read more

We went Saturday the first weekend they opened and loved it. Nice vibe, candles on the tables and both hip and bit romantic. A small wine list with some Eastern European gems. We were excited to finally see something open in this long-neglected location in Oak Park. We loved the atmosphere, and the staff was very attentive. We tried two appetizers and two entrees,and I have to say, the food was hit or miss. While the presentation was lovely, the salmon dinner wasn't my favorite. The fish was cooked well, but everything was so very bland, that I wouldn't order this again. My husband had the cacio and pepe risotto, which was very simple but very tasty. The spinach and chicory salad with the poached egg was good, but the marinated tuna with anchovies wasn't anything to write home about. Two small pieces of tuna slathered in anchovies. Good anchovies, but messy and not quite what we were expecting. Nice drink selection and nice ambiance, so we will definitely try this neighborhood spot again. read more

Been here twice. FANTASTIC across the board. Masterful mix of appetizers, entrees, entrees for two, wine list and deserts. Service is among the best I have experience in Chicago or Oak Park. This combined with the amazingly reasonable pricing makes the quality to price ration the best I have enjoyed in many years and certainly in all of Chicago Land. I've just been once, that's the only reason it's not five stars. Yes, finally, a fresh, city-worthy restaurant option in Oak Park. I will be back. From the beginning with a cocktail at the bar, Daniel expertly made me a yummy vodka gimlet and my friend a tasty black manhattan. Friendly out the gate, no pretense. Just a feeling of being welcomed. The food was outstanding. So many restaurants make charcoal out of octopus, not Citrine. It was delicious and moist served with greens and potato croutons. Kale Caesar is basic, but bright and tasty. My husband and friend had the burger -- i don't eat meat but tasted it and it was outstanding on a brioche bun. My other friend got the muscles -- a generous portion with country bread served in a delicious broth accented with sausage. I ordered the white fish and it was a miss. I expect white fish to be mild -- this was SUPER fishy and off putting. What wasn't off was our server and her desire to make our experience right. And the owner who also wanted me to have something I enjoyed. They removed the item from the bill and quickly brought me the vegetarian dish of carrots which was soulful and filling with a faro salad. Excellent service provided by Carrie.
