I've been shopping here for over a decade. I like the brands they carry and the events hosted in the store. I have been to May Lindstrom's events twice, Agent Nateur twice and Kjer Weis founder/makeup artist and she applied makeup on a model and gave us live tips it was a lot of fun. They do a lot of great sales and gifts with purchase such as the Glam Bag. They are located in the Biltmore. I recommend going into the store for the staff to apply makeup on you. I did not have a great experience at this store. I was given samples of a few foundation colors to determine a good shade before purchasing. Decided on one, came back and purchased the full sized product but when I used it, the shade was different than the sample. Frustrating. So, I went back to remedy the issue. Luckily, several people on the sales staff confirmed that indeed the sample color was completely different than the product that I had purchased. They explained that the "tester bottle may have oxidized," and there was no actual shade that matched the sample. YET they refused to give me my money back because the full sized product had been opened. What kind of customer service is that? Erin fights with you to do everything possible to not replace items that arrive damaged or an entire package that NEVER ARRIVED! Melissa doesn't care about helping either, clearly Erin and her are in agreement with doing anything but actually trying to help a customer. Out of all the packages ordered only ONE did not arrive! I wasn't offered any assistance nor was I when I received a very damaged tata Harper body scrub that cost $90, the Tata Harper resurfacing mask $65, or a perfume $34. They don't care to help in any type of way. I'd encourage people to shop elsewhere, Erin has a very snarky attitude. There's reviews on their yelp confirming this, she responded to it stating it was from a prior employee. If she treats customers like this how can we expect her to NOT mistreat employees too? I'm sick and tired of being treated horribly, I never received my September glam bag order. THAT WAS NEARLY 2 months ago! I let them know I was recently out of the hospital and was hoping this would be a pick me up gift I needed to cheer me up. Erin ignored everything I said, she didn't care neither did Melissa. The most important aspect of this store to me is the organic and natural products they sell. This is the sole reason I shop here, and they completely meet my expectations as far as product quality. However, be forewarned that the store focuses on *luxury* (read: expensive) skincare products. Of course, you get what you pay for, and I want to pay for non-toxic products that make me look and feel good. If this is what it costs, then I'm willing to splurge. On that note, I want to point out that Citrine does not put price tags on their products. You have to ask the sales associates for the pricing on every single item you're interested in. And often when you ask, they don't know the exact price... they say "I think it's like $45", or in the case of my last visit, they actually quoted me the wrong price and I didn't know that until after I'd already been rung up. I find this very frustrating and off-putting, and really wish they would post their prices. Also, although friendly, the sales associates I've encountered are often high-pressure. So be prepared for this before you come in, and don't let yourself be swayed into buying something you're not sure about, and especially without knowing the price (if that's important to you). Despite my personal frustrations mentioned above, this is the best place I've found so far for high-quality, natural skincare and cosmetics. I came in looking for a new lipstick, she helped me choose the perfect shade and she also helped me improve my simple make up routine. A store with a fresh new outlook on skincare! That is exactly how to describe Citrine! While exploring the new UNION in Biltmore Fashion Park, I stumbled across Citrine which is one of the 18 local shops within UNION. At first I didn't go in because they were all skincare products and I wasn't technically in the market to replenish, but then I decided to check it out. Boy am I glad I did! First off, the shop owner Melissa is very sweet and offers an educational outlook on the way to approach skincare. She used to work for Bobbi Brown Corporate so she is also very good at makeup! The store itself has a variety of different skincare products, including my favorite smelling brand, Kai! Melissa was welcoming and made me feel comfortable enough to talk to her about my skin which allowed her to walk me through some new regimes to try out. I ended up leaving with an exfoliater and eye cream from Ren as well as some delicious smelling body spray from Kai. I plan on returning to purchase more of the Ren products and I might also give the makeup counter a shot as well! I also noticed that you can make your own perfumes by picking out different scents to mix together. I think this would be a perfect holiday gift for friends or family! You could even give them a gift card so they can visit and mix their own so you don't have to figure out their scents! read more

I have heard about this natural beauty bar for quite some time but never really had an interest to go in. After all, all of my skin care products I purchase from Whole Foods and have had great skin for many years. In my younger days, I suffered from incredibly severe acne and was able to cure it on my own by educating myself on skin care, skin care products, ingredients in products, etc. Today, it is VERY rare for me to get a pimple, maybe one every 4-6 months, if that. Although everything in my skin care routine is natural, I was still guilty from using a non-natural tinted moisturizer from NARS for over 3 years now. Although my skin loved it, and it never created problematic skin for me, I decided it was time for me to switch my makeup to a natural and non-toxic one. A little over a week ago I stepped into Citrine and had a wonderful experience. I was introduced a a BB cream from Jane Iredale which I immediacy fell in love with and was super excited to swap my tinted moisturizer with. I made that purchase on a Friday and wore it daily for about a week. My... Skin... HATED IT!! I broke out very badly! I literally kept a count of how many pimples have formed by the end of the day of wearing that makeup. It was awful. Then I went a couple of days without wearing it, and no pimples. The ladies informed me that my skin may have been detoxing from the switch of makeup, but, I just couldn't bare to keep wearing it any more because I have the biggest fear of acne, it was tragic dealing w/ it in my younger years. I called Citrine after a week of having this makeup and explained the problem to the manager Jen. She was very nice and very educated on her products but also skin care in general. She welcomed me to come in and we can find a product that's perfect for me. That is exactly what I did today. I went in and we went over skin preparation and application of the BB cream. I learned that a little goes a long way and there is a chance I may have been putting too much product on my skin that caused the breakouts. BUT, because I wasn't sure what exactly it was that made my skin react, I decided to try another product. I was introduced to a new product and we went over application and the ingredients in it. It seems like a winner for now and I am excited to try it. Jen applied it on me while inside the store we found the perfect match for me. I love my experience and I love everything about Citrine. They represent natural, non-toxic, organic, local, and cruelty free products. This a win-win for everyone. I was blown away how someone had the balls to be as rude, sarcastic and down right difficult, snotty and unhelpful as the sales girl working in this store on Monday 26th June (11am ish???) I believe her name is Samantha Tutrone, that is the card she handed me when I asked for her name. LONG awkward embarrassing story short; I took my 19yr old cousin to the store to introduce her to 'good skincare' (she suffers from mild acne) I was very specific, explained my reasons, I asked if the sales person would please show her and talk about two products I thought would be best to incorporate into her routine (I am actually a licensed esthetician, although I haven't done a facial for years! ) I wanted to get her started (bearing in mind budget, she's at college, and also she is just at the VERY beginning of starting to use skincare so I don't want to confuse or overwhelm her..) Due to the no return policy I wanted to PURCHASE samples for her to try for a couple of weeks, in case she reacted or didn't like the products. (I was hoping to buy my TATA Harper Moisturizer and maybe treat myself to the Honey Mud (although I don't really need it ha!) In summary, bad juju, it was a disaster. I can safely say I will NEVER set foot in this store again. I started visiting AZ in March for work. I spend a week in AZ once a month. Every month I make time to stop in here. In fact, I had been following Citrine on Instagram and was so exciting to be able to visiting. The store is gorgeously designed. It's light, airy, and the stone work is beautiful. If nothing else you will be impressed with the space itself. However, there's lot more to be impressed with. Citrine's assortment is fantastic. It's definitely on the luxury side though there are prices from moderate to expensive (green beauty tends to be pricier anyway as these brands tend to use higher quality ingredients and sustainable packaging). Citrine also has an array of products for hair, body, internal health, as well as color of course. I always find something new and interesting here. I love that I've also been able to visit a couple of times during events and promotions. On that: Citrine keeps engagement and education high. Their YouTube channel is beautifully produced and I've learned a lot from it. They are always posting to Instagram and they always engage with their following and clients there. When I'm in store, all of their associates are kind, beautiful, and helpful. They don't mind that I mosey around and deliberate on my purchase. They answer my questions about pricing and they're willing to make me a sample when I ask without making me feel guilty about not purchasing the item (it's super hard for me to walk in here anyway without spending a minimum of $100 it seems, haha)! I've had my makeup done here once. I can't remember her name but she's helped me a couple of times. She's very young, blonde, and super sweet. I come from the beauty world and am usually super picky about my makeup but she made me feel radiant! And finally, Melissa herself is an inspiration. She just gets it. It's personal and warm. I came here for a Girls Night Out event last week. This was my first visit and I will definitely be back! Forget other beauty stores, Citrine is amazing!!! Melissa is the absolute sweetest. The night was obviously busy and at no point did I feel rushed or like I was an inconvenience. I imagine Melissa is a fantastic host at home as she was this evening. I got to Citrine at the start of the event in hopes of snagging a spot in a make up class that was sold out. Not only did she make room for me but she made room for my friend as well. Melissa has clearly taken the time to ensure her store is stocked with the absolute best in regards to good for you and high quality brands. I had a lipstick from Nars that I wanted a color match and Samantha worked with me for almost a half hour finding the closest match and then gave me some samples to go. I really love this store and I appreciate the thought and dedication put into the concept. I'm not that rich, but I always try to save and see what I can buy here when I actually visit the Biltmore. Melissa is very professional and very kind. I think she knew I didn't have much money to go for the full sizes so she gave me a few samples when I made a purchase even when it wasn't huge. The interior of the store is beautiful and the products look really unique and healthy. I wish they sold Neal Yard's organic brand! The only criticism I have is that some of the other associates are rather intimidating and are very headstrong about their opinions, so I probably wouldn't recommend coming in with another make-up brand bag in the store because they might make snarky comments since they're all about natural products. I get that and they're probably not aware that what they say might be a little elitist or inappropriate. Their email special offers aren't that amazing because you don't really get a discount unless you spend a certain amount. So be prepared to spend a lot if you intend to try stuff out. It's a high end boutique so don't be surprised! Also I do agree some of them might be a little too insistent with buying something. I'd say if a product is great, it will sell itself and I trust what Citrine sells are decent, I just can't always afford them lol! I definitely recommend checking this place out. Oh how I love Citrine! As someone who has always had sensitive skin and struggled with acne in my early twenties, I finally began the journey to a green beauty life. Prior to living in Phoenix, I found myself buying face cleaners at Sprouts or Whole Foods, but I still wasn't seeing the results I wanted. Insert Citrine, aka a Green Beauty Gal's dream store. First, all of their staff is extremely knowledgeable. I do my research and they clearly do as well! I appreciate this because they are most definitely not just trying to push product. They care about my skin and therefore I value their recommendations greatly! All of the women are extremely sweet and they throw amazing events every month- most recently, I attended the Jane Iredale makeup class- it was a blast and so educating! Every product I've purchased, I truly love and have seen real results. The Innersence Shampoo and Conditioner, RMS beauty line and Jane Iredale lip glosses are just a few of my favorite. One of the best parts is that you can get sample sizes of products to try them before you shell out $$. I love this because it also gives me the perfect travel sized companions. I just wanted to share some great experiences I have had at Citrine. First of all, the shop is totally Zen. I could feel myself relax, & knew I was in for a special treat. The staff put me at ease, as they allowed me to just take it all in. Lacey Elliot guided me gently through their amazing assortment of healthy products addressed my immediate concern, which was very dry, very sensitive skin. Lacey applied some calming lotions & the relief was instantaneous! I also had some eczema & peeling on my hands which, no matter what I used the problem never cleared up. Lacey pointed out that the steroid prescriptions & OTC lotions I had been using would never heal the problem, as it only worked on the top layer of skin. She suggested Restorative Skin Balm, used by cancer patients. My hands were 75% better by the next day! On subsequent visits Lacey showed me Tara Harper Body Balm & CV skin Labs rescue & relief spray. My skin is getting better every day, along with all of her great suggestions of products they carry to calm & repair my damaged skin. As well as a much needed bit of advise to use a tinted moisturizer with sun screen every day. On another visit Lacey did my makeup, since we had my skin issues under control. I couldn't believe that was me in the mirror! Lacey made me look 10 years younger! My husband said I don't know what she did but you need to go back & buy everything Lacey used, because you look just amazingly more gorgeous than ever! I just had the most wonderful experience with Sarah at Cirtrine. She was super helpful and educational on products. I'm fighting some post-partum breakouts (and grubby baby hand caused breakouts) and I struggle with some redness with my pigmentation. Sarah gave me some really fantastic, natural products to try and helped me select some make up that wouldn't leave my skin feeling cakey. Nice little establishment in Biltmore! Their philosophy is natural beauty products and skincare, but found that almost all of the products feature witch hazel and essential oils, which are not the best to be using on skin (research about it!) overall, I liked the selection of beauty products but far out of my price range from brands I haven't heard of, or whether they're cruelty free. I would give them a shot, but I would look into their return policy before making any purchase. read more

I so badly want to love Citrine. I love the concept. I love the products. I love that it is a local business (and female-owned to boot). However, the customer service is what continually disappoints. I tried to brush off the first few instances as flukes or misunderstandings. But it just keeps happening: high pressure and condescending. I somehow always leave feeling worse about myself than when I entered. I think you have to drop a few hundred dollars here (which would be easy to do) to be treated well. And be super sure of your items since they do not permit returns. I was walking through the Biltmore one day when I stumbled upon Citrine. I bought a Lotus Wei air mist sampler pack and was so excited to go back when I had more time! I asked my husband for a gift card there for my birthday. I went in and got color matched to buy a Jane Iredale pure pressed foundation. I also bought the setting mist, a brush to go with it, and a few other products. I wanted to try a new cleanser, but since I had never tried it before I confirmed the return policy before purchasing assuming that like every other beauty store I have bought from, exchanges would be allowed if I had a reaction or didn't like it etc. That was when they informed me that they do not allow any returns or exchanges whatsoever. I do understand that they are a local business so they don't have as much flexibility on this. But Jane Iredale themselves for example allows returns, so why couldn't Citrine? I let the sales rep know that I would not be taking the cleanser then and I would stick with the sample she had given me first to make sure I liked it. She became very high-pressure and kept insisting that I should just buy it anyway and as long as I used the sample first and the full size was unopened I could bring it back if there was a problem. At this point, another sales rep came over and started insisting the same thing, even though I kept repeating myself that I would wait. It was very uncomfortable. The sales rep also kept asking me if I wanted every product she tried on me even though I told her in the beginning I would only be getting the foundation set today. I left feeling very disappointed with my birthday present and $100+ purchase. I avoided Citrine for a few months and bought elsewhere even though I much prefer to support local. I tried to brush of the high pressure sales tactics and intimidating return policy. I stopped in for a few simple purchases like my Coola sunscreen. I continued to recommend Citrine to others. I was finally ready to try them again. I have recently relocated to Tucson, so I placed an order online last week. I requested a sample of Jane Iredale BB with my order since I am considering switching over from the pressed powder. It arrived quickly and I was so excited to get my goodies. But I was quickly disappointed to find that there was no sample included. I emailed to see if they missed my comment in the notes box or what had happened. I received a somewhat snippy automated-sounding email back stating that there are no guarantees on samples and if I would like to order a sample I can call and pay by phone. As someone ordering $145 worth of products (a major splurge as a teacher) and who lives 100 miles away, this felt like a slap in the face. More personalized service is usually a perk of going local. However, I get much more customized, friendly service at Sephora with their ever growing green beauty section. And every other indie, green beauty website I shop at offers returns. read more

This place is amazing. Melissa the owner is friendly and warm, and will drop what she is doing to help you experience a product. She turned me on to Kypris last year and I'm still obsessed. All of the girls are super helpful and customer service is key at this location. Their Girl's Night Out events are a blast! The higher price point is worth it - what toxic ingredients are you putting in your body (on your skin, the largest organ), otherwise? They are happy to provide demos and samples. Unlike other beauty stores, the makeup artists have a little more skill. I first came into Citrine in the beginning of a, I guess what one might call a 'skin cleanse' looking for relief. I had just started to remove chemicals from my skin care regiment that were affecting my health. The result was an all out purge of toxins in the form of horrific acne! So I came in desperate to find natural products for extremely sensitive skin. And, yes, as you might guess, I found them! First of all, the girls that work at this shop are amazing. You feel like you are visiting your friends when you come in. They remembered my name from my second visit and on, so service is top notch! All the girls have so far been very helpful in my case, from the start they recommended that I use Jane Iridale, which, not only looks amazing on skin, but is AWESOME for anyone with major skin issues/sensitivities. Since then, my skin has vastly improved and I've actually begun using the Kjier Wies makeup, which looks fabulous on and is an easier process to put on than the Jane Iridale. I was actually nervous about switching tho (considering what I've been talking about this whole time) because this make up really only works with oil underneath. They recommended the Rose Oil by Ren, which has actually turned out to be great on my skin. (They let me sample it first, which was very helpful, they actually give samples of pretty much everything) I did have a few very small whiteheads come out at first, but I think that was my skin balancing out, because now it's perfect, and more smooth than ever (i'm a 31 year old with a few acne scars....rather, now I HAD a few acne scars) Anyways, all of the products have been top notch and have really helped me on my detoxing journey. I know I've said a lot already, but I just have to mention how in love I am with the shampoo, Rahua, that they sell. I love that I finally found a shampoo that works great without coating my locks in endocrine disrupting SLS. My Favorite is the regular shampoo and conditioner (not the voluminous one) I've tried both and I like the original, despite the strong scent of Palo Santo, but I've actually really come to like the smell (kinda spa like!) My hair is a lot shinier with a lot less split ends since using it. I find I only need to wash my hair twice a week with this shampoo and conditioner, and I generally have more oily hair. I discovered this place about a year ago, and since then have been in probably 10-15 times. I love it! I've been attempting to switch up my makeup and skincare routines into natural alternatives. Yes, this store is definitely expensive, but I think in a way you get what you pay for. And you're putting this stuff on your face and body, so I don't mind it being expensive! That said, I space out my purchases. The gals that work there are always lovely and happy to give you a sample or help you try something on. The brands Melissa carries are beautiful, well made and good for you. Can't get much better than that! read more

I have come in twice already and both times each sales girl I encountered were beyond sweet and helpful. Being in the desert is very drying so I am looking for a moisturizer and mask. Both girls have helped guide me in the right direction. They have told me what products would be helpful and why. They didn't try to upsell me (which I LOVE). I stopped by Citrine Natural Beauty Bar for the first time today and had a wonderful experience! MJ who was helping me was absolutely amazing! I am making the shift to more natural and organic beauty products and she was very helpful and educated me on a ton of the products and answered any questions I had. She also gave me a few small samples to test out some of the products I was interested in. I love how a lot of their makeup products actually benefit your skin as you wear them!
