Just went here with my husband for the first time. After waiting 40 minutes, I asked the server to just forget about my calamari that I ordered as an appetizer and to bring out our dinners. She admitted that she never ordered my appetizer and our dinner would be out soon because the kitchen was slammed. There were only 3 other tables outside and 3 or 4 inside as it is a Monday night. So far I've only been here for apps and drinks but every time it is pretty good. It's a little loud and crowded (lots of places in the Milford Green are the same) but they do a good job of taking care of everyone. I have had the Pizza-type things, the Calamari, the Burger Sliders, Spring Rolls and Fish Tacos. I think all were well-prepared and tasted fine. The Burger Sliders were probably the best I've had and the Calamari was a really small portion but delicious. The people are very nice and take good care of you. Parking can be tough. I would probably stay away from Fridays and Saturdays here, especially during the summer, but that's just because of the crowds. If they weren't so good they wouldn't have crowds, so don't stay away just because I said they could be busy! Down in this immediate area there are so many spots. Archie Moore's, SBC, Stonebridge, Colony Pizza, Daniel Street, 7 Seas and I'm probably forgetting a few others. Citrus has a more interesting menu, a well trained and efficient staff and a different type of ambiance than the others. If you haven't tried it, give it a shot. read more

Milford, CT can get boring after a while as there is a very limited choice of nice full service restaurants. We were pleasantly surprised when we came across Citrus, a modern 'New American' gastro-pub that has an impressive beer on tap selection and most of all great food! It was apparent by the contemporary industrial decor that this establishment was fairly new to the city. The staff were very upbeat and youthful with a great attention to detail and a visible sense of urgency. We were quickly sat for up group of 8 and the staff was enthusiastic and extremely friendly. Our waitress proceeded to explain the house specialties as well As some wine and local draft beer pairings. The calamari was light and crispy with. Zesty lemon sauce and the salmon tartare was fresh equally pleasing to the palate. Our steaks were dry aged and very tender while Cooked to perfection. The portions were huge and we had no room for dessert, next time! We enjoyed the dining experience and were appreciative of a modern urban dining spot in the heart of old Milford's sleepy downtown quarters. read more

I tried this place for the first time for a late Sunday lunch. My friends and I thought it was just ok, nothing special. I ordered the rice bowl with chicken, it was pretty good. My friends ordered the scallops and the grilled chicken club sandwich. Again not great, just ok. The waffle fries that came with the sandwich were underdone, not a fan of that. My one friend who is a vegetarian ordered the veggie burger sliders. She took one bite and was not happy. She said they tasted like meat. Thinking the waitress put the order in wrong we asked and she said that they were indeed veggie, not meat. She said that everyone thinks they are the real thing. My friends and I tried it and we were not fans of the taste or texture. We sent it back. I think this place probably has a good bar/ happy hour seen, so if you're into that check out. I visited here on a not very busy Sunday night and had the tuna tartar appetizer followed by the lobster roll. Both were very good. Nice atmosphere, though I'm sure it's much better without Covid (as with most places). I'll be back in Milford in a couple of weeks and will likely head back here again. Really disappointed. It's been a few years and apparently there is a new chef. I worked in the restaurant world for many years and I am normally very understanding, but I ask you- who puts spring rolls on a plate of mashed potatoes? How is that a thing? It was weird. I wish I took a picture, but I suppose it is easy to visualize. And the shrimp and bean appetizer? It was hot, but vinegary and served with bread. Trust me, you don't want to sop up that sauce. The grilled sea scallops were very good and the shrimp seviche was a very generous portion(sometimes places give you a few spoonfuls, but this was a heaping martini glass full) Service was great, but I have to be honest. Normally I would give citrus a great review for drinks, but Saturday night, June 11th, 2022 the bartender was the worst I've ever expirenced in any bar in all of Milford. Didn't notice us when we sat at bar, I had to get her attention to order a drink, also never asked if I wanted a menu. Later on completely ignored me when I asked if I could get a shot of patron, I watched her as she talked to all the other customers and got them their drinks so I asked again. Then I had to wave her down to get the check and some how the guests next to me at the bar got their check (after i did), paid, and were walking out before she even noticed my card. After she finally charged my card she threw the receipt back at me to sign. Let's just say I won't be back on a Saturday night and if I come in any other day and she's there I'll be leaving. She didn't even deserve the $1 tip I gave her. read more

I've been going to citrus for years. Half of the time I go there, I have a good experience and the other half, it sucks. The last time I went there, it sucked. I went on Thursday the 17th of August around 10pm. I just stopped by for drinks to catch up with a few friends while visiting my parents in CT from California. We got there the same exact time as 3 women did and they got the last seats at the bar. So we sat directly behind them at a high top table. I went up to the bar to order drinks and the bartender, I think her name was Mary Kate, completely ignored me for about 10 mins, to the point that I went back to my table and sat with my friends. She didn't even acknowledge my presence. She served all three women, chatted for a bit and took all of their food orders. Like really? I've bartended before and I would have never done such thing. She should have at least acknowledged my presence, taken their order and then taken mine before putting in their food order. I went back to the bar to try to order and no luck. I went around the bar to another gentleman who I thought was working and he just told me to go see her instead. I waited, and waited and waited..... Finally, I was lucky enough to get some service. Who would have thought! I ordered 2 old fashions and they were DISGUSTING. like c'mon... If you don't know how to take a certain drinks, either be straight up with your guest or don't make them! So gross. We paid and immediately left. Sorry citrus, my friends and I will not be coming back. Between several incidents there with your shitty waitstaff, awful bartenders and disgusting drinks, we can go anywhere else. read more

I love this place. The restaurant side is awesome--very fresh, quality meal. It's a tad on the expensive side but well worth it. The bar side is super fun. I've only had a drink on the weekend so I can't speak to a happy hour type vibe but on the weekends it is a great time. There is a ring of ice around the bar that you can set your drink on to keep cold. There is an outdoor area for when the weather is warm. The only reason I gave 1 star was because the food was okay. I have never given a bad review. Ever. I came here for a friends birthday and we were a group of 8 people. The waitress was terrible. It took 25 minutes every time we wanted to get her attention. She never checked on us once. Unless it was to take out orders or bring the food or drinks out. My friend, the birthday 'boy' has been there and he chose this place. She never brought the bread she was supposed to where my friend had to ask for it to be brought. Not my favorite place in Milford, but would go back for the food. It was quiet at dinner time on Sunday, had a few drinks and ordered the Tuna Tartar (YUM) I will order it again for sure. Had the calamari, which was pretty good as well, no complaints on the food. I'm only giving 4 stars because the scene wasn't for me, its a much older crowd (not to the fault of citrus) but personally I don't think that I would chose this over other places in the area. The perfect date night spot! My husband and I came here for dinner this past Saturday night around 8:30 pm. We sat at the bar and ordered the Philly steak egg rolls that were on special and recommended by the friendly bartender Nicole. She made me a delicious espresso martini and suggested a "Fuzzy Baby Ducks" draft beer for him. They offered multiple dinner entree specials that were impossible to choose from. I went with the blackened Mahi-mahi served over shrimp and grits that was to die for. My husband got the lamb rack that melted in his mouth. Food was 10 out of 10. Came here after a long day of meetings. They gave us the section in the back. Perfect spot for a private group event since we were able to get as loud as we want. There's also a bar but no bartender while we were there. Food was delicious! I got a salad (small) to start with - it's nice that they can tailor to our needs (I asked for a salad to come with my sesame coated tuna and she was able to accommodate via a small salad.) Though, she did ask when I was ordering if it should come with my meal, to which I had said yes. When it came, it came as an app and while some of us ordered apps, half did not. So it made for an awkward situation where half of us were eating and half were not. But no biggie since I was one of the ppl eating. :) For entree, I got the sesame crusted tuna. Sesame Crusted Tuna was a big plate of goodness. Vegetable spring roll, cut on a split in half, planted on a mountain of wasabi spiked potato with some teriyaki glaze on 2 big pieces of tuna for $25. I was asked how rare/cooked i wanted my tuna. I got rare per suggestion by the waitstaff. It was perfectly cooked. I wish there was a bit more of the teriyaki glaze since the tuna was so thick, but the mountain of potato provided some flavor. The spring rolls felt a bit out of place since it didn't jive with the fish. I ended up eating the spring rolls by itself. It was good - crispy skin with well seasoned filling, but not sure how it fits in with the fish. The food was good, the drinks kept on coming. However, the service was super slow. We had ~15 people and were there from 6:30-9 something. After the the tables were cleared, we didn't get the dessert menu for another 10 minutes. We didn't end up getting dessert because we were afraid we'll be there for another 30 minutes. I didn't pay for the meal so it was great. Ambiance was comfortable, unpretentious yet still classy. Ok. I'll admit it. This, to me, seems like an old person's bar. And when I say "old person" I mean somewhere in the range of 25-45. It just seems like that kind of bar. There's rarely anyone in their early 20's in here, b/c they're all at Archie Moore's, SBC, and Stonebridge. That being said, thank god. The reason I come here is because it's just a bunch of people chilling out, drinking, and having a good time. Granted, sometimes it's boring. And, yeah, sometimes it gets a bit nuts. But, either way, it's way more comfortable for me to go here than one of those other places that people go in Milford just to be seen. Citrus has a good variety of liquor and an adequate selection of beer, plus an outdoor patio, which is always nice. I hear their food is decent too, but it's been years since I've eaten here, so I won't comment on that. Please note, I am only writing about the bar service on a Thursday night around 9pm. I cannot comment about the food, though I have heard very good things about it. My sister and I took a corner of the bar way off to the back by the patio. It was a nice evening and the bar wasn't crowded. It's not quite spring yet, so we weren't surprised, but rather happy that we could sit at the bar and hear each other speak without yelling. The bartender took her time coming over and when asked what kind of red wines they had, her response was, "Cabernet, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Pinot Grigio, and Chardonnay." So... there was that. Like I said, it wasn't loud, so I'm not sure what she misunderstood. Regardless I ordered a Cold Snap by Samuel Adams and she just got a glass of this mysterious Cabernet. We paid for our drinks and never so much as got a glance from her for the remainder of the night. Needless to say, my sister didn't like her wine but sucked it up since we couldn't grab her attention for anything. I know I've come here for drinks with friends late night and all during the summer. They're great if you just want a fun atmosphere without astronomical prices. If you're looking for dinner, maybe stop by - like I said, I can't comment on the food. We love Citrus, having lived in a varitey of different cities and countries I've been privilaged to go to many high end restaurants and Citrus is definately one of my favorites. It's a really nice, laid back atmosphere and nice to go for special occassions. The food is excellent and the service has always been great, definately the best in Milford. We hosted a small wedding party in their lounge which is on the other side of the restaurant, we still have people talking about the cuisine that day! My husband is in fact a vegetarian and loves the asian vegetable spring rolls, their isn't major variety for vegetarians but the food is top quality. Recommend Lamb rack, or filet mignon! Honestly your service and experience is very dependent on the time/day you come into Citrus. On any Thursday, Friday and Saturday night it is overrun by 21 yr olds which turns it into a meat market feel. If you go on Mon-Wed or at an early dinner time, Citrus is a nice option. I had a mediocre first experience at Citrus and decided to give it another go recently. Sadly, I was disappointed. We had five people in our party and were only given one menu. It took nearly 40 minutes to get an appetizer that was undercooked, and while the service was friendly it was extremely slow. Our server was also not very familiar with the menu (didn't recognize certain beers that were clearly served at the bar). While there's potential, they need to be better prepared for busy nights. The music in the bar area is too loud for conversation and the dining space is a bit cramped. Overall I was underwhelmed. read more
