Every visit to City Barbeque is a five star experience! While there are many great barbeque options in our area, City Barbeque has risen to the top of my list. Our friends and family from Michigan always want to visit when they're in town. We truly treat it not as a chain but a unique and delicious treat we're lucky to have close by! I would describe City Barbeque as a fast casual joint. You order and wait just a few minutes for your food. My husband and I always split the City Sampler that comes with brisket, pork, turkey and sausage, plus two side dishes and two large pieces of garlic bread. While the turkey is good, we love the brisket so much that we usually swap out turkey for extra brisket. When ordering the brisket you must ask to leave the bark on. It's a little more fatty that way, but SO flavorful and delicious. Our favorite side is always the green beans, and recently the hush puppies too. The services is always fast and friendly. Once I had the cashier enter the wrong order in his machine slowing down the process by maybe 2 minutes. It was no big deal at all, but just to be nice he comped our whole meal! It's obvious they want to make a good impression and care what the customer thinks. Food comes out in just a few minutes, even when they're pretty busy. Grad your grub, make your way around the counter for your sauce selection (I recommend sweet but you can always grab all three!), and fresh lemonade. Then grab your seat and enjoy! I also recommend City Barbeque for catering! Call your order in advance and it'll be ready for you when you ask for it. It is always a crowd pleaser. I've brought large portions on cabin trips to feed a group of friends for an entire weekend, and satisfied an office full of picky eaters at business meetings. Solid food though not as good as I've had at events! I have been waiting to try this place after they served some amazing brisket at a Yelp event over the summer. I went here with friends and we each got different dishes. I got the Lo Lo's pulled pork sandwich with 2 sides (extra $2.99) of potato salad and corn pudding. The sides were phenomenal. I love corn pudding! The slaw that comes on the sandwich was also good. The pork was a little dry so I added some of the sweet bbq sauce. I liked the fixins bar too; grabbed some jalapeños for my sandwich there! My friends got the half chicken and the brisket. The chicken was really good. Surprisingly moist! The brisket was not as good as the event brisket we had. My guess was because we went late at night, just before they closed at 10. The environment is very nice. Very homey with a walk-up ordering system and funny signs posted on the walls. The 4-person tables were not big enough for 3 people with the giant metal plates they give you the food on. Second time here and had the smoked turkey Sammy plus sides of their excellent Mac 'n cheese, plus slow cooked green beans and bacon. All great dishes and done to an almost perfection level at City Barbeque. I grabbed an ice cold Goose Island IPA (out of ice, literally) and admire their brew selection, for a chain bar-b-q joint. All in all a wonderful lunch, and great blues and blues rock soundtrack make this an upbeat and fun lunch spot (lots of carry out folks coming in and out of here also). Good food but a very disappointing experience today. Our online order placed at 5:29 was to be ready at 6:00. My son walked out with it at 6:45!! He was simply told twice that it wasn't ready yet with no explanation or apology. Meanwhile Door Dash orders flowed out flawlessly without drivers waiting. Their priorities are obvious. The pulled chicken was piled high on the bun, but had no bbq sauce on it. When I asked the cashier, he indicated the bbq sauce was located around the corner. This is not Tennessee, North Carolina, or even Texas bbq. Not putting bbq sauce on the meat? Every other place I've had bbq slow-roasts the meat with the bbq on it in order to tenderize the meat, and infuse it with flavor. When the name of your restaurant is "City BBQ," you're not allowed to tell the customer to DIY. When I bit into my sandwich doused with bbq sauce, I was underwhelmed. Yes it is a chain but they produce top quality bbq and consistent quality for being packed when we got there. It is as good as anything I've had in Austin Texas. I loved the baked beans, you can tell they are not just dumped out of a can. Also the slaw is light and tangy, not pure mayo. Friend of mine took us, bunch of European guys, to this place so we could try barbeque and pulled pork. This place is as American as it can possibly be. So I ordered pulled pork and salad to it. Also, we shared food like ribs and I must admit that I really liked it. Very tasty, juicy and smoky meat. I would definitely recommend this place to Europeans visiting Cincinnati. This was my first visit to a City BBQ. I assumed it would be a typical "sit down and be served" kind of place. So when we showed up with hardly no line, I felt put on the spot trying to take in all of the menu options and ordering process. We actually had to let a few people go ahead of us so we could get our thoughts together and determine what to order. We (2 adults) took the easy way out and got the Family Pack (feeding 2 adults and 2 kids). I just assumed the "2 kids" wouldn't equate to much, and that we would be fed and maybe have some leftovers for one lunch. Boy was I wrong (in a good way). The serving size of the pulled pork and sides and corn bread were plentiful. We ended up being filled that night and each have another full meal for leftovers. And the food itself was excellent. The pulled pork was cooked tenderly and juicy, their sauce options were tasty, the mac n cheese and green beans were also very good, and I really liked the corn bread. I don't always finish a stomach bug-inspired fast with a visit to a BBQ joint, but this time I did. I'd been fasting for 24 hours after watching my wife and children take turns projectile vomit around the house. The diarrhea was a bonus, of course. As I am prone to do, I observed the spread of the virus and stopped eating or drinking. I felt nausea and the urge to vomit, but with nothing in my stomach, it all came to nothing. After a 5 hour drive from Nashville on the way to a college tour in central Ohio, my companions insisted on stopping at this place. I was skeptical since we have Memphis style BBQ in Nashville and I was doubtful anyone in Ohio would have much to offer, but the pulled pork was good. The sides of gumbo and green beans with ham were very interesting. There is a nice selection of sauces, inspired by a modest amount of humor. If I had a criticism, it would be that the pulled pork was a little dry. That's a common mistake, especially when you have Mexicans cooking (I've lived in Central America, and they just don't understand what we mean by 'BBQ', although in fairness, neither do Yankees). The people were friendly, the prices were good, and the service was quick. It's not the ideal post-virus fast-breaking food, because your stomach is just waiting for you to make a foolish decision, but as my nephew said, "Hey', it's worth it". read more

I stopped by City Barbeque last Friday with a friend who lives nearby for lunch, after attending the Yelp Farm Fresh event and their amazing food & service I had to check out one of their actual locations. I've had their catering at work, church events, but have never stopped into one of their stores until now. Great experience, so much to choose from on the menu, I went with turkey as its a fave and two sides, mac & cheese of course and couldn't decide on 2nd side, they recommended the potato salad (of course I wanted a side of corn on the cob we we had at the Yelp event, but thats at only special events). My friend went with turkey and green beans, she stops in at this location at least once a week picking up food for her and/or her family when in town. So many sauces to choose from, I took a little sample of several and was told at the Yelp event to ask for a side of their seasoning rub, which I asked for they gave me a nice little container of it. They also said the honey mustard sauce is good for turkey too. I love the rub on the turkey & the honey mustard was good. For a "fast-foodish" place, I was really impressed with City BBQ. It was late-ish, I was hungry, was staying at a hotel down the street and didn't want to be out all night at a sit down dinner place. I'd resigned myself to settle for some fast food when I happened to drive by City BBQ. I pulled into the parking lot and wasn't sure if this place was a sit down restaurant or did carry out. Turns out, it is both, with an ordering counter to one side, and a more upscale than normal fast food dining area to the other. Service was amazing. I'd never been in to a City BBQ before, and the guy behind the counter was super helpful recommending items to order (at my questions) and even gave me samples of the side dishes to try out. I ended up with pulled pork, the sweet vinegar slaw, and green beans. All were quite delicious, and I was particularly thrilled with the slaw. The name sounded utterly unappealing, but the flavor was great! Double Bonus: They have low calorie food options, and even info on their website to "build a meal with under 500 calories". City BBQ is pretty good for a chain/fast food bbq place. I placed an online with this location and I was happy to see everything was ready to go when I arrived and the order was correct once I got it home. The food is all very good, even the sides. We order a full rack of ribs, mac and cheese, and baked beans. It's not what mom would make but it certainly gets the job done. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is the price and lack of convenient locations. The bill can really add up here and I think some of the foods are just plain overpriced. I also hate that they closed the Western Hills location. There aren't close options for people that live in the city now. read more

The wedding coordinator set up an appointment for us to come in and taste the menu. She wasn't kidding. She brought us every meat and every side.. And dessert. It was quite the spread! It as my first day at my new job and I went into City Barbecue for lunch. A lady named Julie at the cashier gave me a drink for free to congratulate me on my new job. She was super nice. I really appreciate that because even though she didn't know me it was a small gesture but it meant a lot to me. Another young lady was super helpful to help me get my food to go, even though she was busy doing other things. Everyone in there was super nice for it to be a restaurant and to be busy as it was. I've been to many City BBQ's and they're all the same... Amazing. For a chain (albeit small), this place really has it figured out. Consistent, quality BBQ in all shapes and sizes. This visit I opted for their smoked sausage with Mac n Cheese and Gumbo sides. The smoked sausage was tender and juicy, with lots of snap in the skin. The vinegar slaw and a little BBQ sauce were perfect on top and the sliced Texas toast acting as the bun was perfectly buttery and toasty. As delicious as any of their regular BBQ is, the sausage is quickly becoming my favorite. The mac n cheese wasn't spectacular, but it was good. A well-made cheese sauce, perfectly cooked noodles. Just nothing really out of the ordinary to set it apart. The gumbo is always good, although I will admit it can look a little scary. It's definitely got some grease to it... My theory is that they throw all of yesterday's unused BBQ into the pot and stew it all together. While that may sound unappetizing, it's good BBQ, so it always makes something unique and tasty, and it's a good way to sample their different entrees! Always served over rice. Once inside, the place is alive with people and wonderful food. It is very busy during lunch hour and sometimes hard to find a seat. I recommend the brisket, pork, sausage, potato salad, beans, cornbread, fries and hushpuppies. These are my favorites but get what you would like to eat! Another feature is the condiment bar. It is full of hot sauces (spicy, regular, sweet), lemons, pickles, and many other items. There is a soda dispenser, lemonade, sweet and unsweetened tea. I also recommend the family of 4 meal for $20. My wife and I come to City Barbeque about once a month and have always been very happy with our experiences. They are extremely customer friendly at this location. I'll give a few examples. Opening week, I had left my seat to refill my drink and one of the bus boys threw away my plate which had a few fries remaining. I got back to my seat and he was so apologetic, despite my insisting that it was alright. He said I'd get a free order of cheese/bacon fries upon my next visit. Very kind. Every time we get the very large take-out packs, City Barbeque includes quality tongs and serving spoons that are highly reusable. Another time, when they forgot to include the buns on a take-out sandwich platter, they snail mailed me a handful of free side and $'s off coupons. The City Barbeque rewards program (free to join) is pretty good. It seems like every other time I go in, I'm getting $5 off my order. Not too shabby. On top of all this, the food is very good. I enjoy all the unique sides available. My wife loves their ribs. They offer 3 different barbeque sauces. I typically select the brush fire, but they're all good.
