Haven't been to City BBQ before. We tried it as they had a food allergy menu online. My daughter has a severe food allergies to dairy and egg, so she doesn't usually dine out. We checked in and they were very accommodating. They washed hands, changed gloves, and used freshly cleaned tongs. She had the pulled pork with no bun and loved it. She also ate and loved the green beans. I had the City Platter. The brisket was the tastiest of the four meats. The turkey was good. I wanted the pork to have more flavor. Ribs were tender once again but weren't seasoned nearly as well as the brisket, so you'll need sauce. Hush puppies and texas toast were good, but skip the mac and cheese.. We compare all our BBQ to our favorite BBQ in Texas (Saltlick). This was surprisingly good. We don't like over smoky meat. We ordered the pick 2 plate. Our meats were turkey and pulled park, with potato salad on the side. The turkey was very juicy. Pulled park was good just not great. The original BBQ sauce was thick and flavorful. There were many BBQ sauce options, there has to be a flavor for everyone. The potato salad was good too. And a plus, they have Pepsi products. When we are back in this area we will stop in again. Ordered a pork bbq sandwich and beans. $11. Service was fast but not overly friendly. But how was the pork? It was a very generous portion of good pork bbq. I did not even use any sauce because the natural flavor was good. Not the best I've had but good for being on the road and finding it. The beans were average. City is a casual quick service chain with locations in several states. It's not really what I would call 'regional' but I think they started in Ohio - this is relevant, because I think they do a better than average job of having high quality house sauces that vary in style: they aren't offering one good vinegar or sweet or...or...or...or housemade regional preference and several other crappy and/or out-of-a-jar options. I'd give the overall experience 3.5 stars - slightly better than average, but not "wow!" Pulled pork wasn't mushy (I hate that!) but was pretty average, liked the smoked sausage best. The turkey was quality meat, tender, juicy and flavorful, but I couldn't taste smoking at all and I wouldn't order again. Again, it was delicious turkey, not delicious smoked turkey. I promised myself I would dedicate my next visit to chicken and cole slaw. We'll see. They have a lot of side options. I really love their potato salad and baked beans. The mac and cheese (which is stove-top, not a baked dish) tasted really bland piping hot as served. I ate a bite or two, adding salt and pepper in between bites and set it aside. But I'll be damned if it wasn't really delicious when I tried eating the cold leftovers for dinner. The cheese sauce was much more flavorful cold. Weird. Toasted bread reminded me of a sesame seeded, griddled New England style hot dog bun made of Scali bread dough. Yeah, they're definitely tasty enough to wreck a low-carb diet. And they package them separately for takeaway to keep them from getting soggy. Anyway - I appreciate that they had a lot of options for everything: proteins, sauces, sides, desserts. The menu wall can be a little overwhelming, though. It's the kind of thing that makes it easy to lose the plot when you're trying to order to be surrounded (literally, it's on all three walls in the ordering area to the right of the main entrance) by menu placards, attempted edits, added random signs and labels, etc. It's a little much. They also have a bunch of 'family-style' options you can order by the pound or by the package. Quantities seems accurate for the number of people they indicated could be served and, per person, the family-style orders did help control the cost over single-person sized orders, which seemed slightly high to me. They must spend a lot on packaging for takeaway orders. Lots of plastic and separate containers, which is understandable, even if it's not people's first preference. I can't help but think there must be better solutions. But I guess that's not my job. My job is to say that the food is good, worth a visit for some large portion proteins, average portion sides, quick and efficient service, and convenient location. read more

When an individual places an order for delivery and it's for 25 plus people... the expectations is to get the whole order. Well City Barbeque forgets an item with the order- mistakes happen BUT one expects that they would eat the cost and get another delivery service in to make things right. Nope instead they get nasty on the phone pushing a refund or coupons..... when I book a company for 25 plus people I expect better service than that. Made a stop here and got a lb of smoked Turkey and a lb of beef brisket. Now the brisket was good but the smoked Turkey was AMAZING. Juicy and lightly smoked. Picked up a pound of brisket based on a recent good experience from a Cincinnati carryout into nice 1/4 inch slices (as is supposed to be). Went before noon. It was a joke. I received overcooked pot roast stringy chunks basically. Overcooked, oversteamed....literally like the pot roast at a Bob Evans say. I watched the guy...it could not be sliced at all, he put a few downward hits with the knife to separate into stringy big chunks. Should not have delivered that to a customer. This place needs more 5 stars Im shocked at the bad reviews. The meat was fall off the bone smoked and 5 stars for taste and portions well worth the money. I got a 2 meat with pulled pork, brisket, corn pudding, and banana pudding. My husband got 2 meat with smoked sausage, brisket, baked beans, banana pudding, and corn pudding. And my daughter got fair fries, banana pudding and a pulled pork sandwich. Well worth the money and super filling. The place is kid friendly with booster seats and high chairs. Every single employee has smiles are their faces and wonderful customer service. When I realized I had grabbed an extra pudding we didnt pay for and decided to buy milks for the hotel room the manager insisted I didnt pay for it. I wanted to tip them but didn't have cash on hand. Traveling to the area and figured I'd give City Line a shot. I was a bit disappointed. The ribs were good and the portions were big. Baked beans lacked flavor. Hush puppies ok. The Texas toast would barely qualify - almost no butter at all. Basically the Texas toast is a lightly seasoned hot dog bun, kind of unpleasant. The worst part - the brisket was very fatty. The nice charred smoky sections were all on thick pieces of fat which made the tastiest part inedible. It was cool that they had beer and I liked the general setup. You don't need to be from Cincinnati to know the most famous name in BBQ in the City starts with the letter "M", but I wasn't looking for fame or nostalgia, I wanted amazing. It was oblivious when I walked through the door I wasn't in Texas or Kansas City but my expectations were high and I wasn't about to lower the bar or my idée fixe for BBQ . It seem the unorthodox format of ordering at the register, then hanging out at the counter to get your food prior to finding a table is becoming more and more popular I don't like it but I can deal with it if the food is somewhere in the vicinity of unbelievable. The service here was exceptional, the food was very good to some of the best I've eaten north of the Mason Dixon Line, the restaurant was a little cluttered but the flow of customers seemed never ending so cleaning the tables seemed to be one area that challenges this place during the peak hours. St. Louis Cut Pork Ribs - very tender but still attached to the bone not overly chewy, I'd say they were a great example of what BBQ ribs should be, nice hint of smoke with nice color and cooked up to the point where the bark would begin to develop, solid choice. Sliced Smoked Brisket - fork tender, almost too tender and lean for me, there's no chance of getting burned ends off this, absolutely no chewiness great sandwich brisket I'd say. Smoked Turkey - exceptional smoked turkey, extremely moist, a heavy peppery rub might win them a trophy at any competition. Hand-Cut Fries - crispy, served hot, not greasy or soggy, the potato program is working :-) Vinegar Slaw - great chop, this is rather simple slaw but many places struggle to pull this one off, the ingredients have to compliment each other a lot of trial and error played a role in the development of this recipe - rated excellent in my opinion. I tried only a little of the Fire Sauce, with the brisket, the BBQ sauces aren't really my thing I prefer the flavors of the meats, seasonings and smoke but it definite brought the heat. I was in a pinch ... or actually I was just being lazy. Either way, I did not want to cook a side for my family's Thanksgiving gathering over the weekend. So I was very happy to be able to order two quarts of corn pudding and a quart of peach cobbler from City Barbeque online and then specify the time when I'd like to pick it up from the Florence location. And if you haven't yet gotten to try City Barbeque's food -- DO IT! Their corn pudding in particular is fabulous, and their peach cobbler makes me fall in love with cobbler all over again. With the cobbler, you also get house-made whipped cream for free. And the Florence location was generous when I asked to pay for extra whipped cream (because I didn't have time to run in the grocery and grab some Cool Whip for my mom). The nice store clerks gave me twice as much whipped cream as you would normally get for free. Now, City Barbeque can be a bit expensive. My take-out order cost about $30 -- far more than what it would have cost if I got off my bum and actually made this food myself. But you're paying for convenience and great food -- something City Barbeque absolutely satisfies. So when you're not feeling like cooking -- whether for yourself and for a party -- City Barbeque has you covered. read more

I'm from out of town and have eaten at nearly every famous BBQ place in the Midwest/South/Northeast and am shocked by the number of negative reviews on here. We flew into Cinci and come here before the Reds game and were very impressed. It's was our first time at any City Barbeque. While their sauces are average, the meat/pork/turkey was very good. And, the service was a strong point. While the meat on the ribs didn't fall off the bone it was tender and flavorful. And, the turkey was moist, juicy and packed with flavor, as was the pork. We thought all the meats we sampled were awesome and can't imagine what different experience others have had that's caused them to write such daunting reviews. I'm guessing you haven't tried the brisket, which was top-notch. Even the sides are good, not cheap, low grade quality like you get at most BBQ spots. Try the cornbread, it's sweet and tasty. And, for those who are complaining about the long wait: ours was ready before we could fill our drinks. The only downfall and the reason I gave it a 4 rather than a 5, is it's pricy. The price tag could be expected from a nice sit down spot, but is too much for a walk to the counter and place your order kind of a place. For the strip mall-filled, auto park area of Northern KY, this is as good as it gets. If you want authentic, made-fresh-for-you, greasy barbecue... don't go to City Barbecue. But if you want really good, better-than-you-can-make-yourself, finger-lickin' barbecue, look no further! It's not right to compare City Barbecue to any of the *real* barbecue joints I've been to in Texas, Nashville, Little Rock, or even central Florida. City Barbecue is to Texas-style barbecue as Au Bon Pain is to French cafes. It tastes good and hits the spot, but you know you can get better if only you lived where the *real* stuff is. That being said, I do enjoy City Barbecue. It is close to my office so it's a hotspot for me and my coworkers. We look for places within close proximity to work - to get there, eat, and be back within an hour - so today we chose City Barbeque. And I'm so glad we did. The pulled pork with original barbeque was absolutely delicious. They give you 6 sauces to try but we liked the original the best. The corn pudding and smashed potatoes was really good too. Oh, and don't forget the cornbread. Yum We got the family pack for $19 which is enough for 2 adults and 2 kids. Great price and we had a bunch to take home. There was a BBQ station were you could sample all of the sauces and they provided several table side as well. It was also quick for lunch, no long lines or waiting on your food after you order. Pulled pork and brikset are excellent, I have yet to try the chicken but I have heard it's very good. Their mac n cheese is very good, as well as most of their sides, however the baked beans taste like they're drowned in bbq sauce, so they aren't the best tasting thing. The portions are huge, the prices are great; the one disappointment is their sauces are just okay. They do have several to choose from, but with as good as their meats are, it would be great if they had sauce to match. That being said, it is still a place worth going to for bbq, especially considering that the food is this good, and I'm not a fan of chain restaurants- this one just stands out to me because it's a cut above most chains.
