Still a very great place to grab a bite! Stopped in the other day with some family to grab dinner. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with fries and Mac n cheese with a large sweet tea. The pulled pork was so soft, juicy, and just melted in your mouth. Nice smoked taste that was just really pleasant. They have a bunch of different sauces to choose from. I went with the original and it was pretty good. The fries were pretty good as well and they were served fresh and warm. The mac n cheese was a disappointment. The sauce was just too watery, so it tasted off. The bun for the pulled pork was also very small, so that sandwich broke halfway through. I didn't mind much and just ate the rest of the pork with a fork. The sweet tea was decent. Not the best, but still okay. Service was fast, workers were polite. Small but nice atmosphere. I came here with no expectations and only because it was a convenient meet up spot (or is it "meat up" spot?) before catching a flight out of CVG. But to be honest, it was some of the better BBQ I've had in a while. Now, before anyone from Texas or Memphis jumps all over me, I'm not going overboard on the authenticity, whatever that means. But, in the Bay Area, the BBQ is pretty lame and places like this are usually overpriced and have marginal service. So, I was pleasantly surprised to see generous portions, cheap prices, and tasty meat with a huge variety of high quality sauces. The only downside was that I ate so much that I boarded my 4.5 hour flight overly stuffed! If I lived closer to this place, I'd be a frequent customer and would probably scout out one of the family meal options which seemed like a great deal for carry-out. Service was super sweet, and fast. It made for a great spot to meet up with the parents before jetting off to the left coast. read more

This place has been great every time we go. It's fast, friendly and great for people who may not be able to eat gluten or soy. The brisket is awesome and I honesty can't get enough of the swine wine. Love the coleslaw and the fries are amazing. Prices are reasonable and it's one of favorites when we're in town. The year have a little Bar with onions and pickles and a host of sauces to fit any bbq lovers palet. We will be back for sure and look forward to some am good bbq! read more

City bbq continues to be one of the best quality and top rated restaurants in the area! I work on the go and often have to eat out and this location is amazing, they always exceed my expectations for food quality and hospitality! I will continue to eat here as often as I'm able to! This place, by far, is the best bbq in Florence. Great selection of meats and side dishes including my favorite, corn pudding. The ribs are fall off the bone delish and they offer a good selection of bbq sauces that don't taste like ketchup. I normally get the roast chicken as it is so juicy and meaty, so much better than some other hyped up bbq restaurants where the chicken is close to being jerky. When a bbq restaurant can smoke chicken and it's still edible, that's talent. read more

Horrible customer service at this location. The manager and another employee treated my 64 year old coworker very disrespectfully when she went to pick up our lunch order. Then when I called to get this issue sorted out, the manager hung up on me twice. This is the very shortened version of the story but on top of all of that, our order was missing items. We did not bother to call a third time as our entire lunch break was used trying to resolve this issue, which had a very easy solution. Food is way overpriced, as well. read more

Looks like I need to defend one of my fav lunch places! Ok, admittedly, I love bbq. Especially saucy bbq, which is a piece of cake with 6 sauces! I actually like that it's designed where you order your food, wait for it to be placed on a tray and then fill your drinks, choose your sauce and find a seat. That makes it faster (and cheaper, i. e. no tip). Now maybe that makes it more attractive for lunch than dinner. We always go at prime lunch time (noon) and have always been able to get in/out easily within 45 min. I usually have the pulled bbq chicken, but have tried nearly everything because we tend to pass around the sides at our table. My recommendations include the slaw, potato salad, smashed potatoes and baked beans. I'll have to give the gumbo a try. As far as the prices, it's comparable given the portion sizes, I find. I also think the employees are friendly and the place is clean. They recently added a small patio area which makes me think there are more of us that like City Barbeque than not! read more

The only reason this is not a 5 star review is the price. The BBQ was great, with a distinct smoky flavor. The green beans (which I normally don't care for) were seasoned with bacon which made a normally boring food very enjoyable. And lastly, the fries were crispy and delicious. Walk in, look at menu, and order. The woman at the cashier was very friendly, welcoming and had some helpful suggestions for a first time visitor as I was. They have the typical pulled pork, brisket, chicken, ribs, sausage-- but also a sensational variety of sides to choose from. I selected the two meat (brisket and pork) along with the two sides-- wow, it was a massive portion! It was perfectly prepared, and a nice variety of sauces to choose from. The sides were done perfectly-- outstanding fries, and the green beans with bacon (recommendation of the cashier) were spot on! Everyone working there was very friendly and helpful, the portions very generous, and the quality superb! When I'm back in the CVG area, I'll be back here for sure. Highly recommended! read more

I love BBQ. I really do. I'm obsessed with it, and you've read any of my reviews before, you would know that. City Barbeque is an alright joint- it's nothing spectacular as far as the BBQ world is concerned and is most certainly a chain restaurant. I don't mind going here when I just need a quick fix for dinner and I'm not particularly looking for a full blown, server in your face, dining experience. In fact- the food is ready so fast, you would think that you're at a fast food joint. I recommend the Carolina style pulled pork, without the vinegar sauce and topping it with the sweet sauce to make it a true Memphis style sandwich. And be warned, the side order of french fries is large enough for two to enjoy. And on Tuesdays, the ribs are $1.10 a piece. My family particularly enjoys ordering the large quantities and bringing it home for a family style meal. This is a cost effective way to serve BBQ to 5 people without everyone ordering a $7 platter!! And one last note: Think twice before ordering take out sandwiches. Every time we've ordered sandwiches, they have been soggy and gross by time we get them home. Ask them to pack the buns and meat separate from each other so you can assemble later. read more

I'm particular about hush puppies, and they have the best I've had in the area. The rest of the food is good too, the whole family eats well, and we usually have leftovers for another meal. I really like barbecue food and their meat is good but not great. Famous Dave's has way better sauce so they their meat tastes better in my opinion. However, City Barbeque has amazing sides, they're cheaper, and it's cafeteria style so you don't have a waiter meaning you don't have to pay a tip which makes it even more cheap. My husband and I had the Deluxe City Sampler which included 1/4 chicken, a 1/2 slab ribs, beef brisket, pulled pork, 2 sides, 2 corn breads and Texas toast. For our 2 sides we chose Mac & Cheese which was amazing, Seriously, it was some of the best Mac & Cheese I've ever had, and potato salad which was also really good but not as amazing as the Mac & Cheese. Out of the meat, The chicken and the pulled pork was the best. We also ordered the peach cobbler to go for desert and it was delicious. It was more sweet than I imagined but good none the less. I don't think I'd eat the whole thing myself but splitting it with my husband was perfect. I can't wait to go back and try more of their sides and maybe try some of their sandwiches which would make the meal even cheaper. I like cheap, and good & cheap = great in my book! :) read more

I've been a huge fan of City BBQ since they opened their Eastgate location, so imagine my delight when I see the billboards of a new store opening close to work! The time they devote to their food is just unheard of in a casual, almost fast food environment. I've tried it all - the pulled pork is perfect, the brisket is the best, the sausage is savory, and the turkey is... pretty good as well. The appeal of the restaurant, in my eyes, is the "from scratch" approach to every menu item. The meats are all prepared onsite, the side items are fresh, hot, and absolutely delicious. The highlight though is how the meal is presented to you almost in pieces. They don't sauce the meat beforehand, the seasonings on the sides and the meat are present but not overwhelming. They leave it to you to build the taste YOU want. I normally go with the brisket and 2 sides. With a small drink, you're around 11 bucks for more food than even this fat man can eat in one sitting. By myself I normally grab the fries and cornbread as my sides, both fresh cooked, but when I have the kids, I'll swap out the bread for their mac and cheese which my 4 and 7 year olds both use as benchmarks for all other mac and cheese. All in all, I heart this place more than is probably healthy for me. If you love your BBQ and you're tired of the same ol' same ol', give City a try. I bet you don't leave disappointed. read more

I think this is one of the worst restaurants I've ever been to! I visited here twice because I thought maybe I was too harsh on them the first time...sorry to say, even though I wanted to like it, I will never eat there again. Both times I've eaten there, the food was overrated, lukewarm at best, the macaroni and cheese is bland, the fries are oversaltly and have no taste. My go-to place. Don't let the casual environment fool you. This is the best barbecue! You can expect quality every time. Friendly and fast service. Try the corn pudding and hush puppies for some comfort food... The greens are a meal by themselves! Banana pudding is like your mom would make. I'm from Texas and I love BBQ, but this is more equivalent to oven BBQ, I got the 2 meat plate which was sausage and ribs and I tried the Mac and cheese with baked beans! First off I ordered online delivery. I ordered a sweet tea with my order as well but it wasn't delivered with my food order first flag! Second I called to the restaurant and the manager refunded me with my money back on top of that he refunded a large drink instead of the regular which was cool! Second I'm not sure what kind of sausage they were serving might have been polish but no smoked flavor what so ever. And the ribs were dry and fatty with a real bland taste, no smoky taste and taste like they just came out the can!! The Mac and cheese was average as well and the baked beans were drenched in BBQ sauce with little next to no flavor! Would I try it again maybe if I was on fantasy island! read more
