City BBQ hit the spot after a day full of travel from Alabama. We entered the restaurant and immediately noticed how hot it was inside. It wasn't too bad but certainly uncomfortable while dining inside. The ordering process was pretty smooth. We ordered (2) two meat dinners. My mom had bbq pork and ribs with baked beans & fries. I had brisket & ribs with potato salad & collard greens. Both meals came with a piece of bbq bread ( I didn't eat it). Overall the food had a nice flavor. I've had better brisket so it was kind of disappointing in taste and semi dry. I absolutely loved my choice of sides! The ribs were pretty tasty also! My mom enjoyed her meal. I tastes her baked beans and they could have been better. They weren't horrible. Nice portions for the price. Would have loved more drink options but we did arrive late in the day. They an area with different bbq sauces. They also had some onions, pickles, jalapeños available. I really liked having these toppings as an option. The service received was very friendly and helpful throughout our visit. I might have to return here to try more menu items the next time I'm in town. read more

I visited for a lunch date with my husband and I was disappointed. Upon entering, the place didn't look terrible, but once waiting in line, everywhere around just looked dirty: the floors, the tables, the counters... I thought "okay maybe they just had a rush, no problem". We ordered a 2 meat entree, 3 meat entree, 2 drinks and 1 dessert to share... the total was about $60. The fountain drinks station was also dirty, which is also where they kept the sauces. Sat down and again just crumbs everywhere, flies, few pieces of trash... looked around and that was on most tables so we didn't move. We waited not long for our food maybe 15 min max and the chicken was cold. Not even warm, and it had just come out. Brisket was okay, the potato salad and green beans were great. We ended up taking most of it home. The dessert was just okay also. I do think the establishment has potential. It was not busy when we went in so maybe a person cleaning during downtime would've made me think that it's not always like this. I don't think I'll be back unfortunately. read more

We stopped at City BBQ while visiting family in Lexington, Kentucky, and had such a great experience! The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming from the moment we walked in. They really went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. The food was absolutely outstanding -- some of the best barbecue we've had. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. It's not always easy to find both great food and great service, but this place delivered on both. We usually order the family pack but today we decided to switch it up and try the ribs and chicken and thigh with a few sides. Everything was great. It was cheaper to order each rib individually so that's why they're broken up. But it was so tasty and if you eat inside, you can get other cups of bbq to try out. They have several different options ranging from sweet to some spice. Their dill pickles are my favorite they're a must try. The service is always great at this location. They have patio seating that's covered in addition to the seating inside. I love their patio on a nice day! They have really good tea and lemonade as well! read more

This evening I ordered the naked pulled pork Sammy with potato salad and a drink. The pork although tasted ok wasn't really pulled. HUGE chunks of meat with mostly fat and not much actual meat. Salty as heck. The potato salad as usual was delicious. The service was VERY poor. One lady taking orders, one guy making orders and one young lady calling out the names on the orders. The guy making the orders looked like he wanted to be anywhere else but there at City Barbecue. Service was EXTREMELY SLOW and customers were getting very impatient. Poor management is what sticks out about this particular visit. The soft drink/condiment area also needed tidying up and cleaned as well. While I did enjoy my first time eating here, we ate apps only. Fried pickles were quite good. Nachos, on the other hand, come on, put some substance on the chips. While it tasted good, they had minimal filling on the nachos, Meaning meat etc... my suggestion, add more portions to your nacho appetizer. Would I go back to this restaurant again? I got the Lolo's Pulled Pork sandwich, mac n' cheese, and hushpuppies. Everything was delicious. There was enough food there that we couldn't finish it all. We had chocolate cake for dessert but were so full from the lunch that we just had one bite and took the rest home for later! Came into town for the weekend and decided to try some bbq. Having been to a lot of great bbq places around the country, I might be sort of a bbq snob. Immediately upon entering, this certainly reminded me of another quite popular bbq chain - complete with the trough of glass bottled beverages as you enter the line to the counter. I ordered up my usual 2 meat plate of brisket and sausage, as well as the baked beans and a banana pudding. Nice portions of meat with two full links of sausage and a good amount of brisket. Sausage was really good. Wasn't a fan of the brisket. It was really tough and dry. Almost every bite had to be accompanied with some of their original bbq sauce. Beans were just OK - not the best that I've had but not the worst either. The winner of the day was by far the banana pudding, hands down! Amazing! Glad I tried this place. I do take-out nearly every Tuesday to I can get the discount on ribs. Usually I wind up getting the Brisket Cowbell, which is hard to beat. The smell hits you as you enter. I like the look inside. It just looks like a BBQ restaurant should. I was ready to really like this place. I took in the family for lunch, and together we tried the brisket sandwich, the turkey sandwich, and LoLo's pulled pork sandwich. Prices seemed reasonable; then you realize sides are extra at about $2.50 a piece. Between all of us we went with the potato salad, mac n cheese, green beans, baked beans, and coke slaw. The BBQ here is excellent. The original sauce is sweet and tangy, and one of my favorites. If we're talking sandwiches, LoLo wins but all three were great. The sides. Let me start with the positive. The potato salad is quite good. Now, let's talk about the negatives. Did I request that the rest of the sides be unflavored? Because they were. All the rest of the sides were bland to absolute nothingness. I was shocked. With the BBQ being so good, couldn't at least the BBQ beans knock it out of the park? And keep in mind, you're paying extra for each and every one of those sides. If you're gonna play it that way, fine, but you've got to bring it. City BBQ didn't. And with a bill that was north of forty dollars for lunch sandwiches, I was a tad disappointed. It's super hard to rate a restaurant like this. I mean, you're going in for BBQ, and it is excellent. But you can't just eat BBQ. You've gotta pair it with something. The potato salad is a good option, but I need a few more acceptable options. I'll be back. I have previously lived in Kansas City, so I am not easily impressed by BBQ. City Barbeque exceeded all expectations, in terms of taste, flavor, and value. The food in quality and price point make it one of the best, if no the best, of food options in Lexington. My favorite items are probably More Cowbell and the Turkey Taqo. I don't even like turkey, but love their Turkey Taqo. Their brisket and ribs have been really good as well. The only dessert item I've had is the Banana Pudding, which is the only item that I'm not inclined to order get again. read more
