I had bookmarked this spot prior to my recent visit to Lexington, Ky. I thought parking was going to be an issue but there was a parking lot nearby. Upon entering it was dark so I was unsure what I was walking into. It's turns out it was fine. Lol (Watch your step though as you walk through) they have lights along the floor to help you see. There's tables and couches inside - It's odd in a good way. I sat at the bar- I didn't want to take up a table since I was dining solo. There's a patio also. The bartenders wasted no time welcoming me. I placed my drink and food order. The bison burger and tots is what I went with. My food was hot & fresh. I do wish I had ordered my burger medium or even medium well...... the well done burger made it lack flavor. I love how fresh the lettuce and tomatoes were!!! The tots were slightly too overcooked for me but as you can see they gave me a ton of them! I didn't eat them all. The prices here are very reasonable so that's a PLUS. I didn't stay long after I finished my food so I didn't get a chance to really explore the space. I do plan to return here at some point! read more

I haven't been here in a long time but I first came here almost 30 years ago and it reallly hasn't changed a bit. It is dark with candles and mood lighting. Old books everywhere and a really unique atmosphere. The dark, old wood and the brick walls add to the character and charm. If you are tired of all the same chain restaurants and you want something unique, this is definitely your place! They play the music a little loud but not too bad. Overall it's good bar food. We went to celebrate burger week and the burger did not disappoint it had roast beef and onion rings. I ordered a chicken tender salad but asked them to toss it in Buffalo sauce. This small hole in the wall restaurant is very good and cooks up some great food. The outdoor patio is dog friendly, has quite a few tables, and has several televisions. The food was top notch, well prepared, hot, and tasty. Our party of four had the rubin, chicken cordon blue, and a burger. Everything was exceptional. Such a massive fan of this place. The vibe is immaculate. It is probably my favorite bar in Lexington. For this visit we had the hot pepper cheese (a must order every. single. time.) It's fried cheese but it's so much more. It's like a cheese curd but it's definitely not a cheese curd. Dipped in some ranch and woah. Also had the mushrooms and a cheddar burger. We stopped by there today after an appointment downtown that was close by just wanting a bite to eat and to hydrate before hitting the road back home. I must say, we were very pleasantly surprised. The lounge has a very local homie feel to it that, while a bit dark, was incredibly cozy and warm. It's obviously a hot spot for the local folks, but everyone was incredibly nice and inviting! Service was incredibly quick for our appetizers, drinks, entrees, refills, etc and our waitress was on top of it! Pricing was just right for the portions and quality too with both of us being very pleased with our meals and drinks being fully stuffed by the time we headed out. 5/5, we will definitely add this to our short list of places to return to in the Lexington metro area next time! read more

Full disclosure. I've been here multiple times. But finally have decided to make a review after a two-year return. Love how small this place is. Walk in and find a spot which is the best type of food place. The server was a HUGE Survivor fan so that made for great conversation. The food was Awesome. Had a burger and fries. Went in once to get some food and the place smelled like feces. I asked the waitress and the explained that the smell was indeed feces and that the plumbing was messed up. Decided to get drinks instead and ordered a picture of White Russians (fantastic, pictures are a good deal as well), but at the end of the night the waitress charged me for another persons bill that was much higher than mine. She refunded it but told me it would take four days for me to get the money back, and also charged me for what I ordered. I asked if I could get a free drink for the inconvenience of being out $50 for four days and she scoffed at me and refused to even ask a manager. I've eaten here before this (without the boob smell) and the food is pretty good, drinks are always good. read more

Okay so to start the place is extremely dark when you walk in and smells like old books which makes sense because there are books everywhere. For food we ordered cheese sticks which were hot but tasted like everywhere else. We had bacon cheddar burgers well done which may have been a mistake. The burgers were very dry and overcooked. This is the first time I have ever had a burger cooked well done and it was totally dry. If you order burgers from here you may want to get them medium well. On a positive note the fries and tots came out hot and salty and were great. Our server was really good. In conclusion Ive had better food elsewhere but the portions were huge so the amount of food for your money is good. Our total bill was 70$ for 3 burgers and fries, 2 appetizers. read more

Very cozy inside! I loved the books all around with the dive bar vibe. They have a variety of seating, so you can sit at a table or on couches. I just had to come to this place when looking for a place to eat. The interior is dark and has a comfy vibe to it, with the walls being surrounded with old books. I had the Pepper Jack Philly Prime Rib with a side of fries. This was the first time where the sandwich had more of a ticket piece of meat vs. very thin slices/pieces. I've been to Charlie Browns multiple times but never to sit down and eat, until recently. We started lunch off with the fried mushrooms and horsey sauce, an Irish coffee and Bloody Mary. We were very impressed by it all! We then ordered the shrimp dinner and pepper jack Philly prime rib --- which were both delicious!! The service was speedy and very attentive. And you can't go wrong with the ambiance especially on a snowy day, we sat by the fire and it was very cozy. 10/10 will be back for dinner or lunch. read more

Today a friend and myself gave Charlie Brown's a try. I had never had it and was stuck at work so we decided to order through door dash. I ordered the salad with prime rib and my friend ordered the fish and chips which was fried cod . It sounded delicious. Before I leave this review I just want to say I cook for a living at a very prominent country club, so I understand food and how it is prepared. My friends cod had been frozen after it had been breaded because when he bit into it the breading was coming away from the fish. Why wouldn't you bread it and cook it to order? This effects the quality . The oil in the fryer also needed to be changed because the fish was super dark. I was very disappointed when I ordered my salad and saw that there wasn't a button to select how I wanted my prime rib cooked. I typically like mine medium rare not well done . The salad was a great dish but I would change the fineness of the meat. I'm not sure if I will try this place again or not . read more

This place is cramped and cozy and dark and I love it. I've only been for drinks on a weekday night but it was a great time. They had the fire going and we had to wait to snag a couch but it wasn't crowded. Service was super friendly and our waitress helped us pick a shot (breakfast shot, 10/10). I can't remember her name but she was delightful. We also ordered some chicken fingers and fries which slapped. I'll have to check it out again to try some more of the food but it's a great low key cozy fun spot. The ambiance at Charlie Brown's was fun and funky. A bit dark inside, but nonetheless, very oddly cool. I had the Charlie's Roast Beef sandwich which was very tender and tasty, and quite a generous serving. Fortunately, I shared it. The sandwich came with a side order, so I had the tater tots which was also very good. We had a number of family and friends, and the server kindly let us pay on several checks. Some of the best pub food around. They use 90/10 ham patty burgers with your always cook to perfection when I order medium rare. The fries come out crispy so you can order those medium rare as well if you like a lesser done fry. The specials are great and they usually have pie in the back. Try the fried chicken whenever they have it. read more

Charlie Browns seems to be a legend around these parts. Unfortunately we visited during COVID when dining inside isn't always the norm. Walking through the dark innards and seeing the random chairs and couches scattered around made me wish we were eating there instead of outside on the patio. Anyway, the patio is where we went. First the crowd was much different than I expected. Tables of college students, others with older folks, and some in between were all around. The food was just decent but about what I expected. I will say that the "prime rib" Philly cheesesteak, while acceptable is definitely not prime rib. More like average roast beef. The drinks were strong though and that's really what it's all about. It was ok, but it was far too pink inside for a burger that I asked to be made well done. French fries were ok, so at least I had this to eat. We had a great waitress, and I love the ambiance of Charlie Brown's. They have either tables or couches where you can sit, and they also have a patio. Most of the tables were empty because we were there early on a Sunday but there was still nowhere to sit because everything was crammed in so tight. You get a coffee shop vibe when you go to Charlie Brown's. There are couches to sit on but very hard to dine on them. But it is a great place to hang out with friends and drink some great alcohol. The ambience is very low lit and it is a great spot to take a girl on a date. The food here is alright except the Hot pepper cheese. I would go there just for the pepper cheese. I have been to Charlie Brown's multiple times because all my friends like to hang out here. The last time I was here, I got the Blackened prime rib salad. The salad was alright. Not too good but not too bad either. They also have touch tunes and I usually have the touch tunes app. So I can play music from my phone (for a little price of course).
