It is in an awkward location on Richmond Rd Next to Zaxbys & CarMax,just saying. .. when I arrived I had planned to be in and out due to my schedule, although that's why the 4 stars instead of 5 stars ,because I stood in line for 30 mins!!!! , My food was excellent. ... I got The Pulled Pork BBQ ummm umm and the Mac & Cheese . Although the mac € cheese was not the best i had ,it was good! They are a little pricey being my mac & cheese was $5.99 by it self ! I would Reccomend to some one who may have the extra time to go out to eat and some one who does not mind paying $5.99 + for Mac & Cheese . They do have a pretty cool environment overall with the decorations and such .... They have a decently large selection of food on the menu for a BBQ Place .... Food was decent. We had the City Sampler which consisted of the pulled pork, brisket, chicken and turkey sausage. We added four rib bones. We also had a side of greens with a side salad with apple cider vinegarette. Very good dressing and fresh salad! They did include a sample of the macaroni, green beans and potato salad. Green beans were good. Not a fan of the Mac and potato salad but nice way to get attention to the sides. The ribs, the brisket and the turkey sausage were very good. Chicken was just ok but very juicy. Got sides of the peach habanero, bourbon and original bbq sauce for dipping. Peach habanero had a very good heat to it but was too peachy sweet. The bourbon was too sweet for my taste buds. The original was just ok. Whichever sauce they used on the ribs was pretty good on the ribs. They serve bottled beer so we had Corona and a summer shandy that helped the bbq along. Staff greeted us and seemed nice with good recommendations. First time eating BBQ in Lexington have had the judges sampler twice. The very first time was super enjoyable the brisket was delicious and the spicy sauce was divine. The second time ordering the same thing fell very short from the first time. There was lots of chewey fat in the ribs and my gf found a hair in her garlic bread. Things I like- 1) Really good ribs, though they are a tad bit dry for my taste. They are well smoked, tender, and not overly fatty. 2) Peach Nehi in glass bottles!!! Oh yeah! Decent beer selection too. They have an icy trough of beer and non-alcoholic beverages available right as you walk in. 3) The smoked pork is good. I wish it has a little more smoke flavor though. I like it smoky! 4) They make tasty hush puppies! Things I don't like- 1) Their sauces are only ok. Nothing spectacular. Nothing to write home about. Nothing I would buy and take home. I had the pleasure of going here with my dad last weekend. The prior reviews are correct in saying that the City Sampler is enough for two. We made the mistake of ordering two and the portions and sides were too much. We took a LOT home. The smokes sausage was fantastic. The brisket was, as well. City Barbeque is absolutely one of the best choices we made for our wedding reception. Kim Minton is so wonderful to work with and her staffs were one of the best Team I've ever seen. We got married at Buffalo Trace Distillery on June 26, 2015. We met with Tammy (the Assistant Coordinator) four months before the wedding at the Lexington City BBQ location. She was very helpful and friendly; the tasting was generous and delicious. Kim Minton, the coordinator, is very experience and professional. She's very helpful and flexible with our menu choices; she even went out of her way to locate other services like bartenders and cake cutting for us. She's always responsive to phone calls, texts and emails, making it such a joy for us to plan out our reception. Kim and her husband Glenn partnered up to serve in our wedding and they met with us on site to go over the timeline beforehand (even though they prob've been in Buffalo Trace 100+ times.) On the wedding date, they set up, served appetizer, served our reception, cut & served wedding cake, cleaned up and did everything you could possibly ask for from a catering company. I did not have to worry a bit! You might think it's typical for any catering services, but it's City BBQ, so we paid 1/3 of what a "typical catering company" would charge for the food & service! Throughout the night, repeatedly, we heard our guests commented on how wonderful the food was! City BBQ is delicious, economical, and they offer one of a kind great service. Good food and good service are always a winning combination. I 've had the brisket and the pulled pork on previous visits, and both were very good. This time I opted for the St. Louis style ribs. Wonderfully tender and relatively lean. There are numerous choices of BBQ sauce on the table, so take your pick. There's a variety of sides for your choosing. This place get you before you even walk through the door. The light smokey bbq meat smell ushers you towards the door and inside. The pulled chicken without any sauce was the best I've had. Light smokey flavor but cooked to perfection. Not a single dried out piece on the plate. Not a big meat eater but I have to admit that the brisket was AMAZING! No sauce needed. The flavor of the meat was perfect, no need to ruin it with sauce. The sides were all top quality. The baked beans had a nice little kick to them. The green beans were cooked well without being mushy or soaking in water or butter. Leaving the best for last...the sweet potato casserole. Light brown sugar crumble on top with nuts. The cornbread was pretty good.(Huge 'loaf' for less than a dollar) . Drizzling honey on top while it was still warm made for some great eating. They had cobbler (cherry when I went) which was fresh out of the oven. And they had the biggest pieces of chocolate cake I've seen. Very moist and worth the extra miles at the gym. They had a 'bar' with 3 different types of their sauces (which were all very thick and very tasty) and the other 'basics' like pickles. This is the type of place that gets it right every time! Every single time I've eaten here, I've enjoyed it. I usually get the pulled pork on a bun, with the corn pudding (which is the best I've ever eaten) and potato salad (which is also some of the best I've had). I love that you can choose from 3 warm sauces to put on your sandwich, and that there are more sauces available at the table in case you would like more. The brisket is also excellent. This place has plenty of parking, the food arrives very quick, it's always clean, the staff is always friendly without being obnoxious or pretentious. Oh my goodness. I was there on grand opening. The brisket is the best I ever had, and I have had a lot. This was delicious without needing to put any of their warm sauces they have at the ready in kettles on the condiment bar. The baked beans had brisket in them, amazing. Mac and cheese was just ok, but the corn pudding was great. If you know paula deens recipe for corn casserole, this is it. Great sweet tea, texas toast and cornbread. City Barbeque is a delightful place to eat. I've been there on countless occasions with my family. Initially i imagined it was going to be another generic chain restaurant but i was pleasantly surprised with the service, staff and food. I've never had traditional barbeque before and the barbeque i have had wasn't great. So i didn't eat/cook it as a result. I don't know how "homemade" City Barbeque is with it's meat's, sides and desserts (some are fresh) but i do believe they make their sauces in-house and they serve quality meats. The prices at City Barbeque are affordable and the portions are generous. We order the Family pack when we dine here and it's just enough to feed my family of 5 (3 small children). I don't know how we manage to have leftovers but we do. My daughter is a picky eater but she loves to eat the Turkey and Brisket and all my kids enjoy the Mac-n-Cheese, corn pudding and Cornbread. I'd recommend ordering more if you have voracious eaters. I've tried the pulled chicken, pork, turkey and brisket but i enjoy the turkey the most. The ambiance is warm, clean and friendly. The staff has always been knowledgeable, accommodating and helpful toward my family. I've taken numerous (visiting) family members to City Barbeque and they are also impressed with the service and quality of the food. We like to dine here once every couple of weeks sometimes more if it gets busy at home. I gave City Barbeque 4 stars because that's as high as it get's for a chain restaurant. This is one of our favorite BBQ restaurants and I was happy to find one in Lexington. Yes it is a chain, but it's solid consistently good BBQ at the many locations I've visited too. And this location matched my expectations. I usually stick to the pulled pork, naked (no bread). I have limited space in my stomach and I save it for the good stuff like pork, fries, corn bread and hush puppies. Their cornbread is somewhat sweet and their hush puppies are crunchy with great flavor. Their pork wasn't fatty and had a nice smoke flavor, very moist and tasty. We also like that they have multiple sauce options: original, brushfire, mustard style, and sweet. I love to mix the original with the mustard for my fries and pork. People are going to think that I just don't like restaurants after the reviews I've entered on Yelp. That is NOT the case I assure you. City Barbeque has a 4 star rating on Yelp. I just don't get it. This was our first visit today. After 2 hours on our new motorcycle we wanted BBQ. We pulled into City Barbeque HOPING for a great meal. FIRST PROBLEM: They don't serve Baby Back Ribs WTF?! A bbq place that does NOT serve baby back ribs. Strike 1. I ordered a half slab of ribs (beef) and they were ok at best. I don't necessarily like beef ribs anyway so these weren't terrible but I didn't enjoy them. They had 3 different sauces, sweet, original, and brush fire which had a little spice. They all sucked. I ended up eating the ribs with NO sauce. I also paid $3 for 2 sides, potato salad which was really good, and bbq baked beans with bits of brisket in it. They sucked because they tasted like one of the sauces I previously mentioned that I didn't care for. Wife only likes baby backs and didn't like the sample beef rib that they gave her at the counter so she went with smoked pulled pork sandwich and $3 extra for 2 sides, mac n cheese and green beans. Her pork sandwich was tender but tasted of nothing but smoke and there was a giant 3 or 4 ounce hunk of fat directly in the middle of her sandwich. It was gross and made her gag when she bit into it discovering it the hard way. Her sides were terrible tasting as well. The mac n cheese was described by her as box stock. The green beans were OH SO OBVIOUSLY canned. We were utterly disappointed at our $27 meal that quite honestly sucked. I can't be any nicer. I could be much more critical but the bottom line is that we'll NEVER eat there again because we cook better at home by far. I will say that the service (counter people) were very friendly and they treated us great. We told them it was our first visit and they offered my wife a beef rib to check out and we were grateful because she didn't like it. In short, City BBQ was overpriced, sub par, and the sauces themselves were terrible. Canned sides didn't help any and we were very disappointed. So disappointed that there will not be a second visit. Sorry City BBW but you missed the mark terribly. One of the 2 stars I gave was for food and the other was for decent, friendly service. The sandwich, while tasty, was very small. Honestly think they gave me a kids serving. The worst part was halfway through I bit into to chunks of bone. Ouch!! Well, being said the sauces were good. They have a mustard BBQ sauce that reminded me of the ones that Marks Feed Store used to have. Pretty tasty. The portions on the sides were good, and the baked beans were excellent... some of the best I've had. The corn pudding was not well seasoned and bland. A few grinds of salt (yes, salt grinders) helped bring it up a bit, but still pretty unremarkable. Did mention the bone to the manager, who apologized and offered another sandwich, but I was already too disappointed to try again. While driving back home on our honeymoon we stopped here for lunch prior to visiting a brewery in Lexington. Yelp reviews looked good but we all know those are subjective, and upon arrival we saw this was a pretty generic looking, chain-type establishment. I wasn't expecting much, but we were quite hungry and in a few hours we'd be out of BBQ country so what the heck. Their menu has a tons of choices and even though it was lunch time on a weekday our orders were ready almost before I could finish paying. They have a nice, large outdoor seating where each table comes equipped with many BBQ sauces. The lunch combo was a great and inexpensive way to try a couple things (1/4 pound sandwich with 2 sides). We had the pork, brisket, hush puppies, and corn pudding and all were excellent. Both meats had a smoky flavor that is rarely found in 'authentic' BBQ places and is what I enjoy the most from this type of food. The sauces were all good as well, but the meat stood on it's own. I'd definitely go back if we end up driving through Lexington again someday. read more

My son, mother, and myself ate as much as we wanted and there is still plenty leftover. ** I recommend asking for extra barbecue sauce. The pulled pork comes without sauce; you have the option of regular, sweet, or spicy barbecue sauce on the side. I didn't realize I would need more, now I have a half pound of pulled pork in the refrigerator, but no sauce.** Last week, I bought the same meal for a friend, who was just home with her third baby. Her family enjoyed the meal; I didn't have to cook; and it cost less than $30. In this case I ordered online and found it much easier because I had all the options in front of me. There are a couple of places in town that cook or sell BBQ, but for price, taste, atmosphere, service - hey, for any one of them, let alone ALL of them - this is the BEST in town I've eaten here a few times.
