Our first time to City Barbeque and we are in love! I ordered the 2 Meat meal and got brisket and three ribs. I tried all three BBQ sauces and my favorite was the Hot, it will make your nose ring but is so worth it! We tried the hush puppies which were crunchy and well spiced. They have good smoked meats, my favorite is the chicken, and really tasty side items. One of my favorites is the Corn Pudding, I highly suggest trying it. I do love their pork barbecue and I love their turkey sandwiches. I wish there barbecue sauce did not have high fructose corn syrup in it but, unless that has changed recently, it does. Now you have to ask for pickles if you want them with your barbecue and you are carrying out. There are no more pickles where you can get the barbecue sauce. The pork has good flavor even without BBQ sauce. Speaking of BBQ sauce, I am not impressed by ANY of theirs. I believe they have four different sauces and the mustard one is the only one that I really like. Today I tried their brisket for the first time and it was the perfect cut of meat that was prepared and cooked to it's optimal point. It was perfection. I am not a beef brisket fan but I was very impressed. I hope that it is always this good. Extremely expensive for very small portions, and recently the menu has been updated to make it to where you have to order sides separately, but it's left (in my mind intentionally) unclear so that you think you're getting sides with your plate/are led to believe that a plate with sides is far less expensive than it actually is once the order is placed. Service is very lackluster, don't bother asking for them to remove the drink from the combo for instance, they'll just roll their eyes and charge you for it anyway. There are local bbq places that have better food, and way better service, that don't have misleading menus or silly a-la-carte only sides. We tend to venture out to City BBQ about once or twice a month. It's quick, easy and tasty. My favorites of the smoked meats here are the brisket and sausage. I've had better pork, but it's not bad. The husband and I just split the City Sampler which is pulled pork, brisket, sliced turkey, sausage, Texas toast and two sides. The husband likes the fries and I love the corn pudding. (This really says something since I do not care for corn nor corn bread--but together they make magic). As for sauces, the mustard sauce is good and we add swine wine to everything. They use to have a reward card, but now it is an app you have to download. The app only allows you to use one reward every 3 hours so either your $5 off or a free drink. *sigh* This place is still pretty good and seems to do well with catering. I took my wife, mother and father to City BBQ on Richmond Road on a Saturday night. A very nice gentleman took our order quickly and efficiently and he did a great job establishing a relationship with me as I was paying. I thought the extra effort to be nice was a good touch that is missing with a lot of young people. I love their pulled pork and all the various BBQ options. The Angry Blackberry BBQ sauce is worth a try. They have about 12 different sauces that can be sampled or used with your meal. Some of their side items like the corn pudding are extra special. I also can say I love their green beans and bake beans. Two areas that will keep them at four stars instead of five on this review is the cole slaw description and the fact they ran out of a main item (pulled chicken) and no one was told until the food came out to be picked up by the guest. "Oh by the way we are out of pulled chicken. What else would you like to order?" The slaw is listed as Creamy Cole Slaw, but that is false advertising. As stated on this night they ran out of pulled chicken and we were not told until our order was ready. My wife had to make a last minute change. I watched as several disappointed customers had to change their meal decisions very late in the process. While I believe certain safeguards should be put into place as to never run out of a main food option, customers would not be as disappointed if the menu item was covered up on the wall or at least told by the person taking the order before payment of the order. A good recovery strategy might have included a ticket for a free entree item upon return to the restaurant or at least a free dessert? It was still a good fun meal in a very relaxed setting. I like that customers can get as many refills as needed and we really liked the ice tea. I enjoy being able to sample all the bbq choices and the corn pudding is as good as I have ever tasted. The restaurant and restrooms are clean and all the bbq was kept well stocked at the stations. This particular restaurant had a University of Kentucky theme on the walls along with an old fashioned smoked BBQ ambiance. City BBQ is well known to be a great place to help school teams fundraise. We ordered for two people.. a pulled pork sandwich, sides, ribs and sides. Then drive 20 miles home to eat it and didn't have everything we ordered. We called your customer service line and WERE DISCONNECTED THREE TIMES as we waited on hold for a refund. Finally, after a 4th call back, the young lady took our info and said "corporate will call you back in 24 hours. You've yet to reach out. We paid for something we never received and just want a refund. Yet you guys can't seem to find any importance in customer service. I'm extremely disappointed in your lack of empathy. Man, I just don't know anymore. I have rated this chain highly in the past. Their pulled pork is good. (Their other meats are good too.) Their fries are good. I can't eat them any longer, because I'm on a stupid low carb diet. But that's not City BBQ's fault. They do have vinegar-based cole slaw, which I can eat. They do have good unsweetened tea, which I can drink. And their meats are... meats. I can have all of those that I want. But why the hell did they take the sauces off the table? I get it: it's more stuff crowding up each table, and there is labor involved in cleaning and refilling every squirt bottle, daily. But taking away the freedom to change sauces mid-bite by squirting on a different flavor is just unAmerican. Now they have a pretty, wooden rack of sauce bottles up by the drinks. To their credit, they've added several new flavors. Too bad none of them are better than the existing ones. And so you have to decide on your sauce right then, as you stand at the counter, and slather it on. Or you can fill up a 2 ounce plastic cup with each one you think you'll want to. Let me tell: that's just what I did. For one order of pulled pork, I filled at least a half dozen cups up with sauce. City BBQ's sauce costs are going to go through the roof if everyone does what I did. I'm just glad that it was a down time when I stopped for dinner, because I can't imagine the crowd around that sauce stand during a busy time. Frankly, this change is just a bad move on their part, and I'm going to be including it in my mental calculations any time my wife suggests City BBQ for dinner from now on. Ouch. read more

Ordered carry out for a coworker's goodbye party. Ordered and paid for it online. Went to pick it up and found that the place was pretty empty, but I somehow waited 15 minutes to get help. They told me that I was standing in the wrong line and I had to go to the carryout line.
