The restaurant looks nice, and they do have a drive thru. The food was okay to me, but folks that referred me think the world of it. The one suggestion that I would like to make is for both males and females that like wearing long hair, that while dealing with food should have a hair net on. We stopped in at the new City BBQ on Poplar Level and it was as good as ever. Brisket sandwich - oh so smoky, bacon cheese fries and Mac cheese bowl with brisket chilly. To begin with I was greatly disappointed. On the online menu the family meal is listed at 27.99 with 1 lb of meat 2 large sides buns and corn bread. However when you go to order or at the store in person, only then does it state there is a $9.99 up charge for brisket. Had I known this sooner I would have went elsewhere. Secondly when I complained about this problem the cashier suggested I could get a different meal with all brisket for the meat and it would be a better deal. When she did so an $8 up charge was also added that she didn't know about. There was a $5 off coupon so I angrily bought the family meal with the extra $9.99. Okay now the food....unfortunately Pepsi products. The sauces were not so good. I settled on the sweet but the swine wine was disgusting and the other 2 were not very special either. I already know I'm not much on Carolina style so I skipped that. The brisket was okay no charred spots like I enjoy. No rendered fat and not Smokey enough. The Mac and cheese had some flavor but it was mostly a sour under tone. A worker told me someone else had said the same thing. The corn pudding was actually good it had a nice balance of flavor with some sour cream and good moisture. The corn bread was also good with both sweetness and savory. The problem was they didn't provide butter. I went up and said I need butter for a family meal. She handed me 2 butter for 4 loaves of bread. Then when I complained 3 more. This bread needs at least 2 per piece. They brought around fries for us to try and they too disappointed. They were limp and kind of soggy without any interesting seasoning. The last issue was pricing. When trying to figure out what to do with the price issue. I found out that even though the individual sides are 2.99, the larger ones are all different prices. City BBQ opened its Poplar Level Road location in Louisville and if business stays as it was when we visited, they'll do just fine. Inside the dining area is not real big, but in warmer weather the outside area will be a really nice place to take in a meal. We visited at 6:30 pm and there was a line, but staffing was excellent. After ordering we had our food within 5 minutes. We had pulled chicken and brisket sandwiches along with fries, slaw and green beans. The meat was moist and piled on well. All in my party had varying things, from sausage to turkey, to salad. All delicious. it appeared that drive-thru and carry-out were also knocking it out. People were moving in and out quickly. The chain has varying options on the menu, smoked beef, pork, chicken, sausage and turkey. About a dozen sides are available along with desserts. Family size meal options are also available. Plenty of parking is available and its a quick to/from I-264 on Poplar Level, near Camp Taylor. This is a great addition to the area. With the zoo and volleyball activities close by they should do well. Our gathering of old friends enjoyed it on a Saturday evening. read more

Today 2/6/23 was their opening day. Took the family to try it out and overall we was impressed. Wife and son had pulled chicken sandwich and fries and both enjoyed it. I got a City Sampler and it came with brisket, pulled pork, turkey, sausage. We also got sides of Mac and cheese, green beans,collard greens and green me rib. For desert we had banana pudding and peach cobbler. To start the food was overall very good with a few exceptions. First exception was the Mac and cheese was below average in taste. Second exception was with the brisket, one my sampler I got 2 pieces and one was nice and juicy amazing, the second piece was almost like jerky it was so dry. The third exception was that the one rib we ordered to try was very little meat and while good just wasn't work the additional price. The pulled chicken and pulled pork were about average for a bbq place. The sausage to me was very good but my wife didn't like it's texture said it wasn't smooth enough inside for her liking. The green beans and collard greens are some of the best I have ever had, both did contain some pork bbq in them. And both desserts were very good. Over all it was a good experience and we will be back. The staff was still learning and looked like chickens with their heads cut off but they were polite and got the food out very fast for how busy they were. read more

3 strikes only gave a star because I had to. I have tried to patronize this restaurant a few time and today was the last time I will. My first visit the food was ok not quite what I expected as far as seasoning but I try to give it a try again and was told there is a difference in ordering from the online menu to today being told I can't sub an item on the sampler. I don't like pulled pork and wanted chicken and have sub it on my last visit but was told it can no longer be done on top of my last visit being given one piece of cornbread when two comes with the sampler meal being told it's only on the online menu when it's clearly on the drive thru menu also. I ordered online with a $5 coupon . I was given a specific time an hour later on a Sat. Night . No big deal . I had some groceries to pick up . The website was easy to use . I ordered a half slab of ribs , MacNcheese, chili fries and triple chocolate cake. The ribs were GREAT . Seasoned and meaty. Although they forgot my sauce, they didn't need any. MacNcheese was meh -bland -I couldn't eat it. Chili fries were Amazing!! I wish I'd ordered the chili on the side so I could've saved it for later. It was a large portion. The brisket chili was sooo good! Fries were also yummy. The triple chocolate cake was THE BEST . Frosting was creamy, melt in your mouth and a huge piece! Our group of 10 came from Creekside on Bardstown, an assisted living community. We were welcomed in with, what seemed like, no hassle despite it being the lunch rush. Our residents were promptly seated with help from the staff, specifically a sweet lady named Laverne. She suggested the Motherload due to our group's size, which was very affordable for our residents and we even packed up leftovers to take home. Lonnie and other staff members were extremely hospitable to our residents, bought dessert for our 2 staff workers and got peach cobbler samples for each resident as well. Our visit was more than spectacular, the staff was more than accommodating, our residents raved on how special they felt and were extremely happy with their meal. We will definitely be back, will post a review on our community's page, and will recommend City Barbeque to all of our residents' families. read more

Food was good, especially the chili fries, service was fine, but the interior dining area is ridiculously small and cramped. You're sitting on top of people at the few tables they have and in other people's way if you're trying to dump your trash or get drinks or sauces. I guess the owners thought everyone would be going through the drive-thru or getting their order to go, but the dine-in customers were completely forgotten about.
