It's been awhile since I've eaten somewhere and thought everything ordered was delicious (plus amazing service). The beer cheese was top notch, the chicken sandwich was fresh and flavorful, and the burger was seasoned perfectly (pretzel buns are never boring). My partner ordered french fries so I subbed my fries for brussels sprouts, they were the best I've ever had! After ordering, I noticed the menu had a back side with HH starting at 3 (can't remember if the end time was 5 or 6). I must come back for the Reuben burger. The "first cheeseburger," like pretty much all of the food I've had here, is mediocre at best. My "crispy" brussell sprouts were a cold, soggy, disgusting mess -- and I'm pretty sure this is not the first time it's happened. One of our two burgers somehow came with onion even though we ordered no tomato or onion on either burger. Their to-go process doesn't involve any sealing or even tying of the bags, so our food was just fully accessible to whoever. My mom and I came for lunch on a Saturday and the place was crazy packed! Despite this, we were able to be seated quickly and our server was fantastic. She was super knowledgeable about the menu and went over everything thoroughly. I quickly decided on the Double Kaelin's burger because I love Dusseldorf mustard. My mom decided on a cup of chili and the Benedictine BLT. Our food took a little while to come out but it was no issue because the restaurant is very nicely decorated and there are plenty of TVs to look at if you get tired of talking! When our food did arrive, it was so good. The burger was huge but perfectly cooked and so flavorful. I also tried a bite of the chili and it was good, too. Been wanting to eat here ever since I heard Kaelin's was the birthplace of the cheeseburger in the 30's. Also bc Colonel Sanders hand breaded his chicken and started KFC in the building. Nice sit down restaurant, good service and plenty of people during the week. Saw the hype on the 80/20 burger and it was disappointing when I had it. I had the original 80/20 burger and the patty itself was not very tasty and the cheese did not go well with it. The pretzel but made it super chewy and didn't pair well with the patty. Took my two girls here the other night for dinner. It was a little pricey for burgers, but man it was probably one of the best burgers I have had in a while. My girls loved their burgers too. I also got the brussel sprouts, they were good, but a little greasy. They were very oniony also, but that made my 11 year old daughter love them! She LOVES onion. We also learned about a new fun sport called Sail GP. My 11 year old daughter and I were very invested in watching it. The service was good and the Ambiance was too. Hello again. Brought my husband and 2 boys in for lunch today. Tried the pretzel baguette with beer cheese for the first time. We really liked it! Softer than a normal pretzel and less dense. I got the 80/20 burger with no onions. The bun was a little thick for my liking but I removed the top one. The fries and tater tots were excellent. Hot, crispy, and salty. My husband tried the bbq pulled pork sandwich and he thought it was good but said he wouldn't order it again. Our service was fine but the guy working the door couldn't stop coughing and they had him delivering food! After watching him cough into his hands and arms for an hour I was less than pleased with that. That guy should have been sent home. It's a restaurant after all. read more

My husband took his mom and dad here last night since they used to go here when they were kids and the last 2 times we went it was good. We were seated in the bar area which was nice because his parents were facing the school across the street where my father-in-law went to school and we talked about all their memories. Unfortunately, this time the food was not as good as our recent visits. My mother-in-law and husband ordered the fried chicken. The chicken was dry like it was reheated from lunchtime. The mashed potatoes were not very good and the gravy looked old and not appetizing. Meanwhile my father-in-law's classic cheese burger and fries were better and my cod sandwich was good. The cod sandwich came with a lot of fish. I ordered a side of coleslaw which was good. But the best thing we ordered and the star of the evening were the Brussel sprouts we ordered as an appetizer. It is a very large portion which we didn't think we would finished but they were so good, we absolutely finished them. I knew I wanted to try Kaelin's and decided to give it a go, and boy am I glad I did! Look no further for a juicy, well cooked burger with amazing French fries. The burger is thick and juicy all the way through. The meat tastes fresh and does not fill you up too hard. Eating this burger made me forget about the meal I was originally craving. The sauce and toppings are also delicious. The flavor combinations for their burgers seem limited by the menu, there should definitely be a BYOB option to show their selection of ingredients. The fries were hot all the way to the bottom of the tin. Beer battered fries tend to get boring after a while but these weren't overly crisp and felt easy to eat while paired with a thick burger. We've been on the hunt for the best beer-battered fish this Lent season, and 80/20 @ Kaelin's did not disappoint. After a less-than-stellar first experience five years ago, we decided to give it another try--and we're glad we did. We made a reservation through OpenTable without any issues. While the parking lot in the back was full, we easily found street parking nearby. Patio seating is first come, first serve, and we were lucky enough to snag an outdoor table. Happy hour (every day from 4-6 PM) was a nice bonus--we enjoyed a $4 margarita and a $9 Weller SR Old Fashioned. Both drinks were served quickly and were spot on. For food, we split a beer cheese pretzel, Caesar salad, and a fish sandwich. There was a minor mix-up in the kitchen, and our fish sandwich came out first. No complaints here--it featured two decently sized beer-battered cod filets with a perfect crisp and great flavor. We requested an extra side of tartar sauce, which complemented the fish nicely. The pretzel was partially pre-cut into bite-sized slices, making it easy to dip into the creamy beer cheese. The Caesar salad was fresh and classic, rounding out the meal perfectly. Our server, Nick K., was incredibly attentive and friendly, enhancing the overall experience. 80/20 @ Kaelin's has officially earned a spot on our list of neighborhood go-tos. First time trying this. We saw many recommendations to try this vs Toasty's and we both agree Toasty's is 10 times better, hands-down. The burgers were lacking seasoning and tasted frozen, not fresh at all, very dry and tough. Fries were ok but also tasted coated in something and frozen, not fresh. The fried pickles were OK, but they were nothing special. The server did not check on how our meal was going until we were a third of the way into our meal which isn't huge, but they don't keep salt and pepper on the table so we had to ask for it and all the while just eat (or try to eat) the burgers unseasoned before they got cold. We also asked for a refill at the same time we asked for the salt. We got the salt immediately but waited almost another 10 minutes before a manager asked if everything was good and that's when we got our refills FROM THE MANAGER. She eventually came to check on us and made a comment about how she sees that the manager got us Refills and then she made an excuse about how she was cleaning up a spill from a little baby, which was definitely not true because I had watched her talk to a table the entire time we waited on our drinks and she was not cleaning up any spills. You would think the simple fact that a manager had to get our refills would turn things around for us, and it seemed very evident that the manager did say something to the server, but our service did not improve by any means. We were almost done with our meal by the time my husband got a refill and we then decided there's no point in ordering dessert as long as everything was taking. We ended up waiting even longer for our check and when our server finally did come to our table with the check, it was very evident she had been outside smoking. At this point, we planned to tip very little. But then the worst experience occurred. And I have to say ahead of time, I do think this server has figured out how to make tips work for her even when she provides the worst service. At the end of the meal when she carried a card scanner over and turned it toward me she proceeded to hover over the screen, reaching across me to clean the table off, being as intrusive as she could regarding what I was doing on the screen as I chose her tip amount. And this is the ONLY reason she ended up with 20% because she was making me so uncomfortable I just chose the lowest preset amount on the screen. But then when I went to choose an emailed receipt option she quickly pressed the button FOR ME that refused a receipt, and wouldn't allow me my own choice in that regard. There was another option on the screen that she chose and I'm pretty sure it was an option to rate her service or be emailed a survey or something and she refused that option as well before I could choose the answer myself. Food 3/10. Service 0/10! We really should've complained to the manager more, but the manager already knew we were upset and nothing seemed to change. We will not go back and we highly recipe d against trying this place. Terrible experience overall. read more

Delicious spot for burgers and ice cream! The restaurant pays homage to the original owners and has a great vibe indoors. Our server Nathan was excellent and walked us diligently through the menu, although I really don't think you could go wrong with any option. We both opted for the Kaelin's Original which was a delicious, classic burger. They had a strong mustard on the bottom which wasn't my favorite, but definitely unique and am glad I tried. I understand it's a wonderful neighborhood bar and Grill. Been around for many years. Home of the original cheeseburger. But if you did not know all that and you went for lunch, it's kind of a letdown. The positive points is the wonderful staff and manager, the fact that they accommodated the 16 of us with no problem, and the fact that they honor veterans with a discount. Also, help yourself to a scoop of ice cream... Absolutely luscious, try the bourbon, flavored ice cream, it's delicious. However, to order the original cheeseburger, in hopes of something spectacular, is much less than. This basic cheeseburger was $13, others going up in price accordingly. What I thought was also interesting is that there were three menus of liquor/beer and one menu for the food. If you like that sort of thing, you will love this restaurant. They do a big lunchtime crowd... Just not my thing with a $50 Lunch bill for two. read more

Order was ready when promised, but was shorted the onion rings. Ordered the Brisket and it was plain, no onions, no potatoes, no chow chow. Ordered the Patty Melt, would have been better if the bread had been grilled. Guess that's what I'm used to. Just more flavorful. Ordered the Kaelin Burger, nothing special, did not taste that good. Went here last Friday with my family. The place was trendy but somewhat busy. Our waiter kept apologizing because they had a part of 31 in a different room. It took almost an hour just for our appetizer to come out and that was cold. He took it off our bill and then when our entrees came out those weren't even better. We came here for burger week. It was a mushroom Swiss. I was a little unhappy because they mixed the onions and the jalapeños and the mushrooms all together of course burger week I'm used to not being able to substitute or get things removed, but still it made it hard to pick because I hate onions. I hate don't like jalapeños too much. Stopped in 80/20 for the first time. When I went in the environment started off okay until it started getting weird and RACIST! Like these people NEVER Seen a black person before! I started placing my order the Female at the counter was trying to RUSH me thru the order with an Attitude! I felt dis respected being the first time there.
