Visited on May 6, 2026. As we were sitting in the middle of the lobby where tables are located, this weird guy just waltzed in without a ticket. The ticket taker saw him and asked for a ticket. He mumbled. The ticket taker didnt do anything to pursue him or stop him. I told her to call the manager. 3 minutes later the manager calmly and slowly walked towards the man. I told the manager he needed to work stronger on security. This theater is the most UNsafe place to see a movie. CITY BASES EMPLOYEES A.N.D. MANAGER lack the knowledge of what customer service is. BLURRY SCREEN: I've been to City Base my fair share of times. I personally love this theater and always opt to drive a little farther to watch a movie here. HOWEVER, my boyfriend and I just finished watching Thunderbolts in Theater 1 and I am very disappointed. The screen was blurry the entire movie. I told someone during the previews and spoke to a manager after the movie and was met with "we have been having problems, we'll fix it". Going to the movies has become a special occasion outing with how pricy they have become and I would hope the showing quality would be better. Wish we would have been helped more before leaving. I like to support local theaters but we are very disappointed to say the least :/ read more

Had a family outing to watch Super Mario Brothers movie. The seats were excellent and the view was outstanding. The chairs recline to your liking and they have trays for eating. We simply enjoyed everything about. I will be back with my girls for a night out. read more

Pretty clean environment, I loved the parking lot and the inside of this location. The concession stand was handled well and pretty quickly. The only thing this place needs to be upgraded to a 5 star is renovations, the seating is outdated. Almost every movie theater has reclining seats now. I'm not a huge fan of being about 6 inches next to my neighbor. There needs to be room as well where people are allowed to walk without bumping into the person sitting down. read more

I'm a newbie southsider and have always chosen Santikos as my preferred theater. Nevertheless I recently discovered City Base Entertainment when driving around the area and I'm very impressed! The employees were wonderful and the place was a blast from the past! It's renovated with reclining seats however there are still remnants of your classic 1990's theater. Simple, clean, and comfortable is the best way I would describe it. A great place for a date night or weekday outing. 5 out of 5 I would recommend giving this theater a chance! I have been coming to city base cinema for years and never had a bad thought but I don't like when businesses say one thing and do a 180 with city base you can get that. When I was sold a $20 bucket and cup that I could bring back but, then when attempted was told that I couldn't and that in a general stand point is complete BS and nobody likes a hypocrite. read more

Pros: ticket prices are fantastic, $6.50 for matinee, all the new movies, supporting local owners, they have EVERYTHING in stock. Full bar, coffee, all the typical movie theatre food. Cons: pretty slow concession service, I asked for coffee and they said it would take 15 min to prepare and eventually convinced me to order something else. Maybe it was just not working and didn't wanna say so! Either way, it's a great place to go and support local community while enjoying a full bar. read more

The only plus is they have early shows, some movies starting at 9:30am. This place and area is really low budget. Seats are like Greyhound and so are the people. Pluses: theater is clean for the first hour or so before popcorn and stuff is spilled on the floor. Employees, when they are not texting, generally clean it up. They search any bags at the door for contraband, such as candy, soda, beer, guns, etc... Minuses: If you buy from Fandango do not expect them to be modern enough to understand this process. If you do not have the credit card that you have on your Fandango account you will have to get in line. People appear to be dumping their brats here in the morning so they can do their thing. There was a pack of kids screaming, jumping, yelling, running, and generally being out of control. The doors do not open in time and a long line builds up with packs of 7 or more thinking they ALL have to be in line in order to buy tickets. The men's bathroom had two urinals out of order on a Saturday. That sh** needs to be fixed asap. Get a plumber in there, pay whatever the f*** you need to pay and get some standards in here. If I had wrote this review two years ago or more I would have given them 5 stars. However, this place is hit and miss. The price for tickets are fair and they do offer student and senior discounts. I also appreciate the nachos are not the little cup of cheese type. The theaters are clean and the seats are comfortable. The bartender was very professional and courteous. The problem comes from the front desk employees. Some are very friendly and some are cold and seem to not care whether or not you're there. We got to the front window and the front cashier just looked at us, say something, like hello. My dad asked her if they have senior discounts and she didn't answer. So I asked again and she said no. I had to ask a manager who then said yes they do offer a discount and then corrected the purchase after she returned the tickets we bought then repurchased them at the discount price. All of which could have been avoided by giving us the correct answer. The front cashier a total miss but the manager handled it great. Also the cleto commercial is terrible. I literally wait til this ad comes on to get up and use the bathroom. This 2 min plus ad plays after the trailers, completely killing the ambiance. Its full of unfunny out dated jokes. Im sure today's kids really get a 20 old Brittany Spears joke. Stop showing this and enforce customer service with your cashiers. There are good ones, they will appreciate the extra training and the bad ones will get a little better. read more

Had great expectations about this place from what i heard, been here before and everything had been fine until today i asked the manager to make a complaint but he told us that he was refusing service and my money back and called security on me. Made my man wait outside so he could belittle me and my man had to stay outside. It's not about the money is about the principle and he kept saying he was calling the cops on us because he could refuse service to anyone he wanted. They have a White Castle inside. YES! I am from NYC and I have been longing for some White Castle burgers. I am not a movie theater fan in general and I still give this facility 4 stars. They offer military and student discounts. $6.50 for a movie in a clean theater I may have to make the drive more often. The theater currently shows movies in Sony 4K picture and 7.1 Surround sound. The actual theaters are small but cozy. After the movie while exiting the staff hands out complimentary mints and thank you for coming. The staff is overall friendly and welcoming. FYI they check bags so don't try to sneak in any snacks. Not to fear they serve alcohol. read more

This place is frequently on Groupon, LivingSocial, DealoftheDaySA, and other deal sites for discount tickets. Eventually, after seeing their name so ubiquitously, I gave in and purchased. As others have said, this place does check bags so don't bother trying to sneak in your snacks. It didn't happen to me, but then again I don't carry a bag big enough to smuggle children across the border in. That's probably giveaway number one, ladies. Given the low-as-hell ticket prices, I'm not sure why this place is always on deal sites- they're already well priced. Unfortunately, it probably as to do with location as they are in a developing area. While they were pretty busy when we went, I did notice that most people around us paid in Groupon deals as well. Keep in mind that your WhiteCastle burgers at the concession stand will take a little longer than just scooping up a tub of popcorn- there wasn't a line when we went in, but as we made our way to that separate counter there were a few people waiting and we were told it'd be a good ten minute wait. I was happy for the heads up, and it was about right, but I'll wait for WhiteCastle- and you will too if you go try them. Movie theater was good- comfortable seating, large screen, good visibility and sound. Really nothing to write home about as everything was what it should be. If you're looking for good pricing on tickets and don't mind purchasing a coupon deal through a middleman website or driving way out to the middle of nowhere, this place is good. Nice And kozy atmosphere, clean restrooms, welcoming staff, expanded variety of snacks like real mexican candies, lots of choices of beer, cool game rooms for the kiddos. This is defiantly a lower end theatre. The CBX seemed like watching a regular movie at Harkins or AMC. CBX gives you free refills for soda and popcorn during your movie but it's not worth it. I wouldn't want to get up in the middle of a movie to get more soda or popcorn. They do not offer student discounts for CBX. I really like the assigned seating. It's nice to show up and get seated without needing to arrive super early to get a good seat. You can also purchase tickets online but be aware there is an added surcharge for buying them online. Staff was nice but they didn't have enough people working to service everyone. The place was not properly kept up inside and was a little dirty. Bathrooms were not too bad. read more

Saturday evening. That may have been the issue. People were nice and friendly at entry all was fine. UNTIL we sat down. People were already sitting in our seats. They moved when they saw us counting the seats. The film started and the cell phones lights from the audience lit up the theatre. The people on both sides in front and back of us were all talking. The police officer came in and people stopped speaking for a few minutes. Then he left and it began again. One lady in front of us turned around and politely asked the people to our left to stop talking. The same lady then turned around and started talking to her child (super loud) we were like whaaaaaaa!?!? This went on the entire film. Ok, number one reason I like City Base Cinema is because they have hoodrat snacks. By hoodrat snacks I mean chile and chamoy covered goodies! What more do you need to get you snack on during a flick? Out of the three theaters in this side of town City Base is where your going to get you money's worth. It is clean, comfortable, and quite budget friendly. $4.25 early bird specials on the weekend and $5 - $7 tickets regularly is quite the steal. They do, do purse searches when you have a big purse or bag. But nothing invasive. The staff has always been fast moving and helpful. They also always seem to have some kind of event or interaction during the weekends. The actual theaters are a bit small but don't lack in sound or picture. read more

I gotta admit, I love this theater. It's a welcome addition to the Southeast side! On a Saturday, my husband and I decided it was movie time and caught a 5pm showing. My first pleasant surprise was the price. For two people it came out to $10. Yes, you heard correctly, ten-freaking-dollars! I'm used to paying double that! As we ventured inside, an employee asked to look in my purse. I assumed it was because I had a cute purse but then I realized she was looking for snacks. I didn't think it was a big deal because as far as I know, City Base Cinemas isn't attached to a big name like Regal or Santikos so I'm guessing they could use the extra bucks from concession sales. The inside of the lobby was super clean as was the theater itself and the chairs were really comfy. Not Palladium comfy but better than Drafthouse. A cinema where you can order up a White Castle Burger and top it off with an ice cold beer!! Love it!! Very friendly employees greet you coming and going at this place! Huge glassed in arcade is located on both sides of entry. BTW ladies you will get your purse checked for food or drinks ! The seats are very comfortable. Had a blast at this cinema tonight! Was a little skeptical after reading some of the reviews but after walking in and being greeted by the nice young man at the front and having some hot fresh popcorn with self serve butter we enjoyed our movie. The sound was great the chairs are clean they have that pleather material. They have a little recline in them which is always nice. I love all the grub offered at this place. White Castle sliders which I have not seen anywhere since I left Chicago! Yum! Lots of hot foods, the nachos looked really good. I came for a screening of dead pool and I was impressed at how nice and clean the theatre is. The theatre still looks new. After the movie, there are people outside passing out mints or candy. The arcade attached to the movie theatre has bowling, laser tag, rock climbing, and this a bunch of other huge games that aren't typically at an arcade. The San Antonio City Base Cinema is one of the best movie cinema's you can go to in San Antonio, Texas. To back up my claim, the movie cinema has a great variety of snacks to choose from. I know this because on Zomato(an informational food and delivery website), their menu has nachos, popcorn, a wide range of chips, frito pie, sodas, icee's, Dibs ice cream, hotdogs, adult beverages, and so much more. My dad got popcorn and an adult beverage, which he loved, and my mom and I got popcorn, an Icee, and a coke. The popcorn was hot and buttery, while the Icee and coke were cold and refreshing. These snack options provide a wide range of options for people of all ages to enjoy. Another reason others should definitely consider going here is because of the amount of new,exciting, and trending movies the cinema offers. On the City Base website, they have a list of newly released movies such as Black panther: Wakanda Forever, Smile, Black Adam, Prey for the Devil, Spirited, Strange World, etc. My cousin ended up taking her friends to see Smile and they loved it. They said the screen made the movie more thrilling and exciting than they thought it would. This theater will allow people to enjoy the trending movies they've been waiting to enjoy as soon as possible. There are several screens and the imax ones are great for action and scary movies. There is an arcade located next door that can be a little pricey but still enjoyable nonetheless. This used to be the place we would go on a weekly basis but it seems the quality has diminished greatly. The EXPENSIVE nacho (?) and cheese were stale, the games we attempted to play didn't work and the theater is to cold to concentrate on the movie!! I spoke to the manager who looked to be about 12 and he said "ok" and walked away. Then I sit down to watch the movie and am told in the rudest way not to let my feet hang over. Worst movie theatre I've ever been to. Understand they can't control the guest being loud but when I went up to the front to see if I could move seats since we paid $80 to enjoy a movie the girl who checked us in and the girl who was behind the screen had horrible attitudes, awful customer service and were just plain rude. Decided to just stay where we were and the kids next to us were just not letting us enjoy anything screaming, laughing, talking, mocking and their phones glad kept going off. 30 minutes into the movie decided to go and ask for a refund or passes for another day. The lady we spoke to didn't give us an option for a refund and gave us passes for another day. She was rude too. Didn't apologize. Nothing. When we were walking out we decided that we didn't want to return to this movie theater with such awful customer service. So we asked to speak to a manager and chandler came out and basically told us since we sat and watched 30 minutes of the movie we couldn't get a refund. He was incredibly rude as well. Said "it's like an airplane once you get on and pay you can't get off and get a refund." What? Lol. He was giving attitude and this place is just unprofessional and not worth the money.
