The bowl was fixed beautifully but I was a little under whelmed with the taste of the açaí base. It tasted like bananas and nothing else. I am not a fan of bananas and know it's added to thicken up the base but that's all I could taste and then there was no sweetness in the bowl minus the peanut butter. Visited City Bowls for lunch during the week and tried the Powerhouse Bowl because I wanted something filling with protein. I was looking for some quick takeout for dinner and happened upon City Bowls. Acai bowls are one of my favorites and I really enjoyed my bowl. I had the Powerhouse Bowl: Açaí, Almond Milk, Bananas, Peanut Butter, Strawberries, Whey Protein, Granola, Blueberries, Nutella. Lots all the ingredients and it was a good sized portion. They have an extremely convienent location in downtown Birmingham which I find very nice. When I walked down the street to pick up the bowls the atmosphere of the restraunt was truly calming and I was greeted as soon as I walked through the door. I love the powerhouse bowl, it is amazing. Everytime I get an chance to order food, it will always be the powerhouse bowl. The Nutella, and peanut butter makes a great combination with the acai. I have tried everything on the menu but nothing compares to the powerhouse bowl, I have been obsessed with this bowl for the longest time. The fruit on top is always fresh, I never had an bad experience with the powerhouse bowl or at city bowl. The workers always are happy and makes me smile. I have been an OG fan since the truck came out the summer of 2017. City Bowls holds a place in my heart. Alabama isn't known for acai bowls and kale and ginger shots and all those #fitness foods, but City Bowls' acai bowls are the best!! I've traveled around the nation, even to California and other populated areas, and I have never discovered a better acai place than City Bowls. The acai base has the best texture. I've seen acai that has been too liquidy and some that are completely icey and frozen. City Bowls always has the same thick texture that I dream about. The flavor of the acai is also amazing and tastes so fresh. I've tried the pitaya bowl, which is also good if you want something less berry-tasting and less tangy. They also give you piles of granola, which is crunchy and delicious and not covered with syrup/honey. The fruits are always fresh, and they have unique toppings like bee pollen, goji berries, and coconut chips. My favorite bowl is the powerhouse bowl because it has both nutella and peanut butter. The peanut butter and nutella aren't thick, so it kind of "melts" into the bowl and you can get a little every bite. They also have seasonal bowls, which are always a must try!! For example, they have a Durbin Farms peach bowl in the summer, and they have smores and caramel apple bowls in the fall. I also really miss the blue bowl (hint hint please bring it back). If I could afford to go there every day I would (and I have before for a whole week), but as of now, I go about once a week, and I'm still not tired of it. I'm writing this review as finish up eating this Açaí Powerhouse bowl. This was my first time trying out City Bowls and I think I'd try them again. I have never tried an açaí bowl before, but I've been wanting to because I've heard so much about them. An acai bowl is basically like being served a smoothie in a bowl that is topped with bananas and granola and other fruits and ingredients like Nutella or syrup. I was not sure what to get and I definitely didn't want to build a bowl my first time there. I told the employee it was my first time so I needed a suggestion. She recommended the Powerhouse bowl. It comes in a 12 oz and 16 oz size. I went with the smaller size since I wasn't sure how I'd like it. The base is açaí, almond milk, bananas, peanut butter, and 40 g of vanilla protein. The toppings are peanut butter, Nutella, bananas, strawberries, blueberries, and granola. Based on reviews I read, I expected the wait to be long, but after ordering, I got my bowl within 5-10 minutes. Maybe I missed the rush or maybe they have gotten better with getting the bowls out faster. The bowl was good. I didn't think it would make me feel full, but I don't think I'll be hungry until dinner. My go-to order is the City Bowl w/ peanut butter instead of bee pollen. The perfect bite of fruit, açaí base, and creamy peanut butter keeps me coming back for more. The best part is how it doesn't make you feel bloated and keeps you feeling great throughout the day without food coma. The atmosphere is very nice and the workers are friendly as well. The first City Bowl food truck has been coming to UAB for a while now, I just never went to purchase. I have been following City Bowl 2 on Facebook and today I decided to give it try while they were in Alabaster. I had no idea what to order as they have so many options. So I asked the cashier to look at a picture that was posted on their FB page and that's what I wanted to try. We both agreed that it looked like the "City Bowl" and that's what I oorded. Nothing over the top and I loved that it had two of my favorite fruits, pineapples and strawberries. But as I looked back at the picture and read the hashtags, it was actually of the Island Bowl. No problem, I enjoyed what I ordered. Now, I must admit I was not too happy about the $8.18 price tag on a 12 oz but I will definitely check them out again but will spread out my visits. If you're looking for a light healthy snack, or a protein packed dinner, City Bowls is your answer! This place has an amazing selection of drinks, smoothies, and smoothie bowls. I heard about this place growing in popularity and wanted to try it out. I didn't know what an açaí bowl was or even how to pronounce it, but braved the cold to get one. For a smoothie bowl, the base was not too runny and had a really good consistency. The specific one I got had granola on top of the base and honey lightly poured over that. A healthy amount of strawberries and blueberries were then placed on top and drizzled with Nutella. Even on a cold day, I still highly enjoyed the bowl. This place uses only the freshest ingredients and I was very satisfied with their available fruits. Everything here is highly customizable so make it the way you like! The fruit on my bowl were very ripe and not the least bit sour. Sadly, their storefront location is not open yet so if you're looking to try them out, you'll have to look at their daily schedule on their Facebook or Instagram page.
