I work very close to City Cleaners and I've been coming here for over a year. Charlie is the owner of this establishment and he is incredibly kind and easy to talk to. I always feel so welcomed when I walk in. Ray helps to check in and out. She's calm, helpful and listens to my ranting. The tailor is quick and precise in her assessment when it comes to alterations. I've had 3 dresses done thus far and they've all come out perfectly. I've realized no matter where you go, tailoring will always be pricier than expected...but it's necessary. Otherwise, their prices are pretty damn fair considering all of the competitors in Astoria. I live in Flushing and even when I leave my job, I'll still be coming here for my dry cleaning needs. Worst experience at a dry cleaners. Dont go here. Avoid! I sent an expensive fjall raven winter parka for dry cleaning. A simple job. To my surprise, when I got it back the zippers had been changed!!! The nice black zippers, with a strip to pull, had been replaced for two generic YKK zippers (and they both of them are different to each other!!). I dont understand how this can happen. It just needed a dry clean, no need to handle the zippers. So I went today and tried to talk to the manager. This guy was very rude. He said that he didnt do it, that it is impossible. And Im ok, maybe it was another person working there. But he said no, that he is the one handling the dry cleaning. Well, I said these are not the zippers of my jacket, maybe you broke them, but you should have told me, consult me, save me the original pieces... He insisted that it wasnt him. Then he looked at the ugly silver zippers and said they look totally fine. And Im like no, they werent like this. Then he asked what I wanted. I said at least return my money for this bad job. And he was like no way. He started asking me to leave the store, that I should never come back (I agree on this one, wont ever come back). He was rude and couldnt accept his botched job. After my last dry cleaning fiasco, I took a long time to figure out where to go for my next dry cleaning. I got a new job with a business professional client, so I really had to put on my big girl suit and stop looking like an intern. This meant upgrading myself from the laundromat dry cleaning and going to the big fancy dry cleaner. This meant putting aside my cheapie tendencies and paying up for no more losses and better quality. :deep breath: After a detailed Yelp and on-foot neighborhood canvassing, I settled on trying City Cleaners. Their hours are great, so I can drop off on the way to work and pick up on my way home (they close at 7:30 pm while a lot of places close at 7:00 pm). Their prices were a smidge lower than two other locations I visited too. I dropped off a decent sized load - three dresses, two blazers, and my winter coat. When I picked up three days later, the clerk quickly found my items, rang me up with a smile, and all my items were accounted for. Everything was clean, nothing smelled, and they don't use those pesky stapled tags. Nothing was shrunken and the linings are were in place. They also recycle clothes hangers. The price point was something like $56 for all six items ($15 for the jacket, $7 for a dress, $10 for a blazer?) which is not much more expensive than my old place. Terrible alterations!!!!! I took a dress in and requested they sew on a tie at the waist that was detached. This is a pretty easy sewing job. The tie just needed to be sewn on allowing the dress to be cinched at the waist. The tie was sewn on, but it is three inches shorter than the other tie. The seams are all over the place and the lining was ripped. Very sloppy looking job. The owner gave me a 10% discount, which was $3 off. He also offered to have it sewn again, but that would have required ripping the jagged seam that was made (more holes). Never again. read more

City cleaners is one of the best in Astoria. They are fairly priced, timely, have friendly workers and do quality work. They've removed a few tough stains for me, even on delicate clothing. The only reason I dropped a star is because their seamstress is so hard to get a hold of. She only works a few random hours in the morning. I don't see how anyone with normal working hours can even get in to see her. read more

I love this place. The staff is amazing and they make it a point to try to learn peoples names. My husband and I have been taking our dry cleaning here for the past 5 years at least. They are dependable, consistent, & customer service oriented. They are also very careful to check garments before and after for any call outs - like stains, thread pulls, etc. this is great for the customer and the cleaners so everyone is on the same page with the condition of the garments before and after cleaning. That same evening he was at my place picking up my clothes. That was a Thurs eve. By Sat early afternoon he had called with word that their driver was in my area. Awesome. You can pay cash or cc via phone. Though I didn't know what my total was, I just provided my cc. I should have asked, but he also should have shared. When I checked Yelp reviews to see if this place had a good tailor, I barely found any reviews. Here's one now... Friday Morning: I arrive during store hours in the morning and there's no sign of the tailor. Not a big deal, she was just a few minutes late. The young girl behind the counter? Super apathetic! Suit to be altered and ready by Tuesday, 4PM Tuesday, 7:00PM: Apathetic girl looks around for my suit and when she finds it and holds it up, I notice the tailor hasn't even started. Apathetic girl comes back and looks at the computer and mumbles "I don't know why she didn't start" I now have to find some time in my already fully booked day to pick up the suit in time for the wedding. Wednesday, 6:30PM: The suit is finished but the fancy hanger it was on is now gone. Whatever, no big deal, I'm over it. I'm being rung up and realize there's also no fancy garment bag on it anymore. Up to this point I've been super patient but now it's all getting to me. Guy in the back thinks he can help and he grabs a bag, comes and wraps my suit in it, I thank him, pay, grab my suit and turn around and let them know... "This isn't my bag, this is someone else's bag!" Apathetic girl looks up and says "Oh, it's okay" Maybe they're great for dry cleaning, but at this point, I don't want to step foot in there for anything more ever again. I've used this place for a few years ( even when it was different name...but same peeps still working) I like them, typical Greek biz in the hood. They do good job cleaning all kinds of stains and what else. The only negative is tailoring, the old man has good hands and eyes, but his skill on tailoring trousers are not so great and had them done a few times and I ended up visiting the other guys next block. I've been going here for about a year now (they recently underwent a name change). Overall, I'm satisfied. Some points: - I ask for many of my dress slacks to not have a crease. It took them about ten times before they finally got this right - They're great at getting out those impossible stains on all types of clothes (silk ties, cashmere, etc) - I trust my most expensive clothes to them - Dry cleaning here never carries a strong odor or a nasty film you get at some cleaners - The tailoring is ok - even though i've only tried it for small things such as hems and small rips - OK prices - a bit high for Astoria They need to institute some type of rewards program, though. Left my jacket here for 4 days to have some rips sewn up and a zipper issue fixed. On pickup day at 11AM, after 4 days of suffering without a Winter coat in a snow storm, they called me and did not leave a message. I went to pick up the jacket and surprise surprise -- NOTHING had been done. Apparently they couldn't fix the zipper so they just decided not to do a damn thing. So not only did I suffer for 4 days for no reason, but my jacket is in the same condition it was when I left it there. Seriously unprofessional. Why didn't you guys call me on Day 1 or 2? Thank god I didn't show up at 10AM Monday because you hadn't even decided to call me then. They gave a half assed "sorry" but it was too little too late. DO NOT GO HERE. I accidently rubbed off some of my red lipstick on a VINTAGE CREAM Chanel courture gown.. that had sequins. Oh, the gown did not belong to me.... I first took the gown to a fancy dry clearer in the upper east side... they were going to charge over $400! Ah no. As I was walking home that evening I passed this dry cleaner and with faith hoped that they were able to remove the stain without ruining the dress. Love the business, and the owners. It's one of those things where you live in a neighborhood for a while and you really get to know the owners, not just the business. Really, really good at their core business, cleaning, of course. Did 4 instead of 5 as it's not perfect. We don't use it for pickup/dropoff service, so cannot rate that. When I had an important interview recently, I decided it was a good time to get my business suit dry cleaned. Unfortunately, I waited until it was a little late, and came to City Cleaners only a few days before my interview was going to be. No matter. After explaining that I needed it sooner than their given timetable, the clerk helpfully offered to have it done two days earlier. Sadly, I then forgot about it until the end of the Saturday on which my suit was going to be cleaned. My interview was set for Monday, and I had work that morning. Disaster! Yet, all was not lost. On that Monday morning, a couple hours before official opening, I wandered over there in hopes that maybe I would catch someone opening the place early, so that I could still get my suit in time without having to call in sick to work. As it turns out, there was someone opening up right then! Realizing this was unorthodox, I asked as politely as I could if it was possible for me to go in early and get my suit. The guy opening was incredibly nice about it and more than willing to let me in, even though this was still a while before opening hours. My suit was in great shape, and the service was very reasonably priced at 10 bucks for the matching jacket and pants. And I was in time. Huzzah! I should add one criticism, which is that I think this place should be open on Sundays. I did try calling them that day in the vain hope that someone might be working in the back and willing to help me, but to no avail (obviously, I don't specifically blame City Cleaners for not having someone to answer the phone for me on a non-business day). I think simply operating for some number of hours on Sundays would save some stress and near-disasters like I had. Even still, I had great service, and both people I interacted with there went above and beyond for me when they didn't need to, so the Sundays issue alone isn't enough to lose a star. I have a Marc by Marc Jacobs nylon bag that I bought about two years ago. I love it but it's cream so it shows dirt easily. I contacted Marc Jacobs to ask where they recommend I have my bag cleaned. They referred me to a place in Manhattan that would charge about $100 - 150 to clean it. I only paid about $160 for the bag, so I didn't feel like that was worth it. After having trouble finding any dry cleaner that would clean my bag, I finally found City Cleaners. After speaking to the owner, he told me that not only would they clean by bag but it would only cost $25. It took them about a week to clean it and when I picked it up last night, it looked brand new! I couldn't be happier with their work and service. read more

I took my vintage coat for dry clean. At the time of pick up, after paying, I noticed that all spots that needed to be cleaned were still there! Even simple dust stains. After complaining, they said the coat is vintage and it is not possible to do a better job without destroying it. Not a single stain cleaned so why do I have to pay? I even agreed on some stains that maybe cannot be ever cleaned, but even a dust stain not cleaned? After they acknowledged that stains are still there they reluctantly offered to redo the job. Then I also noticed a discoloration on a collar of the coat that wasn't there and I decided not to proceed with re-cleaning as I was in a serious doubt they will keep my coat undamaged. I even ask them to give me a store credit instead of claiming money back, but they insisted they will clean it and refused to give my coat or money back or store credit! After arguing for about 20 min I demanded to talk to an owner or a store manager. After several refusals and my insistence, I got to talk to an owner who ordered to an employee to return my money without an apology. That is not good customer service. A very rude counter lady at the end threw money at me and she accused me of using them to clean my coat for free! She acknowledged that the coat was still dirty, and even put 20 stickers on the dirt spots, for recleaning, but accused me nevertheless again for using them for free! That's beyond unprofessional and very upsetting. One star is only for the owner for returning the money. I was skeptical that coat could be cleaned due to old stains but decided to try again at a different cleaner and they returned my coat absolutely spotlessly clean. read more

This place is terrible for dry cleaning Down products. The two times I've been here were to dry clean my Down comforter and a Moncler Down jacket. Both times, the PERC (perchloroethylene) that they used stayed on my items for over a week. Now I know that practically all dry cleaners use this stuff, but this place somehow infuses this it into your clothes. That's not even the worst part. My Moncler jacket's inner label fell off during their dry cleaning process. After notifying them about this, they rectified by offering to sew it back on. Good customer service right? Well you would think until you realize that they are incompetent. They actually sewn the label through the outer pocket and clamped it shut. LOL wtf?? Isn't this sewing 101? Did I mention that they also burned off the 'Authentic' tag from the jacket? After contacting them again, and with much resistance, he finally gave in to re-fix HIS mistake. He was claiming "Too many demands". Wow, talk about customer service eh? Well, they 're-fixed' it alright but nothing short of shoddy sewing a five year old could do. The stitches were uneven and all over the place. It doesn't take much to please me but this place is just bad! read more

I can not believe this place is still in business. Absolutely the worst. I have been married now for over 3 years and this place still makes me so mad. I originally asked them in 2014 if they have ever tailored a wedding dress before and they said yes many times and that it was no problem. After 5 trips to City Cleaners, I needed to get my dress from them, as they had ruined it, and my wedding was a week and a half way. They refused to give it back to me without paying them. They had cut the entire bottom of my dress off! It was 3 inches above my feet. Within one week I had to buy all new lace material (which included the impossible task of finding something close to the stitch pattern of my dress) and beg another tailor (45 minutes away) to work on the mess they made. The new materials and the new tailor cost me another $600. The manager at City Cleaners was awful and unapologetic. What they did to me caused me so much additional stress during an already stressful time planning a budget-friendly wedding in NYC. read more
