On the way home, headed down North Beach Street my car had a turbo go out and spay oil. I pulled into to Brakes plus and they took care of me. Although the cost was pretty steep (minus a star). After being charged nearly $300 I found out a tech had put stop leak in my motor causing unnecessary damage to my truck. There was no reason to even stop leak in my truck causing it to overheat and creating an even massive leaks throughout the engine. Then they kept my truck for 2 weeks without offering to get me a rental car so I could get back and forth to work causing me to lose more money once I received my truck back it was worse than when I gave it to them to service it mean now it's idling rough, check engine light and white smoke out of the exhaust. I didn't give them my truck like this, but for some reason, it was ok for them to give my truck back in this horrible condition. So because of this situation I was forced to buy a new car because my truck is sitting in my garage undrivable. After talking with the area manager who said they would replace my motor all of a sudden went M.I.A., so now I'm going to have to move forward with legal action with all the stress, inconvenience, and costing me thousands and thousands of dollars this company has put me through. This is a very incompetent shop. They can't even do a state inspection with a self insured policy.

This place is so dishonest, Chuck the manager quoted me $495 for replace brake pad front and rear with front rotors entire quotes. Spoke with him over the phone after dropping my car for a 7:30am appointment which stated front and rear brake pad replaced only. It took them almost 6 hours to do the work and still didn't do a good job. Trusting Chuck's word I paid the quoted price with coupon 10% off...well didn't check my invoice because as I said trusted the place well I didn't get rear brake pad replaced at all they did a brake fluid exchange for $115. This is my second time trying to give this place the benefit of a doubt but no way not again. Please don't take your vehicle to this place they are very dishonest and use parts that are not new as well. Read all reviews which I didn't I know now....OMG they lie. Don't do it read more

This place trys to screw people. my sons Kia Soul had an issue with power and would not go over 15 mph. He's 20 years old and had to have his car towed to City Garage. Obviously they thought he had fool written on his forehead until he contacted me here in Virginia. They quoted him $4400 to perform cat change and major tune up work. The car may not be worth this much. I'm a 40 year experienced mechanical Engineer and I do all my own vehicle work unless I don't have the tools. I stopped in for a state inspection on a Friday. . Immediately I was told I was too early. I explained that my registration was in May and I knew I was early. I was told that the inspection is only good for 60 days. Wrong! Inspections in the state of Texas are good for 90 days ( obviously they don't know how their own services work) Red flag #1. I was told I passed inspection, except for a Brake light out on the rear cab of my truck. I'm thinking I need new bulbs. They're thinking I needed an entire brake light replaced for a $638 estimate! Red Flag #2 I, of course, declined their estimate, paid for my inspection, and left. Brought my truck home and hubby had it fixed in under 30 min. It needed bulbs! I took my truck back today, the next Monday. I was told they'd have to run another FULL inspection. WRONG! All they needed to check was the repaired brake light. Red Flag #3 After I was told that, I took my truck to a different inspection place and told them the story. They verified that all that was needed was a re-inspect of the repaired brake light. I gladly paid ANOTHER $25.50, got my passing paperwork. CITY GARAGE IS A BIG RIP OFF PLACE -especially if you are a woman! Disgraceful and shameful business practices!! City Garage is no longer a reputable auto shop in my opinion. I last came in with a dead battery which turned out to cost me $213 for a diagnostic and new battery. I never had problems with the car, and only had to get it jumped once, but the mechanic recommended a diagnostic be run to be sure nothing was draining the battery. I didn't think it was necessary but wanted to believe I was in the mechanics best interest. $213 seemed a little steep to me, but I went through with it. Once I went to pickup the car, they had informed me that my drive belt should be replaced because it has "cracks" in it and would cost me approx $190 to change (also seemed steep). I went to another garage that I trusted and had the mechanic point out the drive belt to me only to find that it was in perfect condition with no blemishes and did not need to be changed. I also have close relatives who have gone in for one service and was recommended other auto work that turned out to not actually be a problem. It seems like no matter what you come in for, they'll recommend getting something else done with no clear evidence as to why. If you're okay with upcharging and dishonest mechanics, take your vehicle to City Garage. Otherwise, steer clear. read more

Took my car in for a diagnosis for Vibration when I drove over 55 mph. Got the call the next day, saying it was going to be $2100!!!! WTF? I said what all is wrong? He said , well, you need 4 new rotors, two new wheel hub assemblies, new spark plugs, and an Oil change. How are the spark plugs and oil causing the Vibration??? What a scam. I Told him I just changed my plugs two months ago, but he replied, the brand I used (E3) don't last very long, they are made for racing, . I said, I also just changed my oil, there is no way it needs changed, plus I don't let ANYONE change my oil. Now, the Hubs and Rotors I can literally get for around $500, so now what is it still so expensive? He got as low as $1100, hahaha No Thanks. This place just throws out astronomical prices hoping someone will actually pay for it. When I picked up my car, the guy had no remorse, just acted like it was a normal day of ripping people off. I absolutely love these guys. Tony did my father a huge favor by saving him a huge amount of money on a potential major repair for his Ford F-150 by giving a valid repair recommendation. After that, my father raved about the exceptional service and vehicle knowledge given by these guys. Turns out that my father's experience was not exaggerated. I followed my father's advice by taking my Pontiac down to City Garage in December of 2016. There was something wrong with it that neither I or a local mechanic couldn't determine. Tony indicated that he would run a diagnostic on it (about $100), of which I accepted. Later that evening, Tony indicated that there were three major repairs that were needed on my vehicle that would easily run $3,000. Keep in mind that this was on the heels of a $1,600 repair that I made with Henna Chevrolet in Austin, TX for a new wheel axle and ball bearings. Tony is a straight shooter, and he recommended that I start with the most pressing repair out of the three, which would have cost $847. After talking with Tony some more, I indicated that I was going to more than likely get a newer car, since the Pontiac had nearly 200,000 miles on it and was nearly 14 years old. I just couldn't do it anymore. Tony agreed with me, and mentioned that I was making a wise decision. While I didn't have my vehicle in this shop to complete a major repair, I greatly appreciated Tony's honesty and adherence to looking out for his customer. There are always going to be mechanics and shops that you feel uneasy with, yet City Garage and their employees did not give me that uneasy feeling. I called for oil change and was told about a 15 min wait. When I got there I checked in normally and waited. After 45 min the guy came out and told me it was going to be another hour. I asked the guy why 2 cars after me got in before me. He told me they had appointments, seems odd bc when I called the guy he told me they don't take appointments. I did notice however when they got there they seemed to know the guy performing the service. Also noticed neither of them came in to pay. Guess cash still is king. read more

Seth and Tony are outstanding guys. I drove up from Austin hanging with friends for the weekend and I noticed my truck was acting up. I am a long ways from home and didn't know what to do. I decided to Yelp auto repair and they showed up with almost 5 stars. Just a few minutes later I arrived. Seth was at the front desk and started helping describe the problem with my truck. It's a 97' dodge Dakota so I was worried that it might cost more to fix it than the worth. Seth informed me that it would be $110 for a diagnoses. I was about to turn around and leave but I knew I had no other choice and Seth assured me it was a smart move. As I was sitting in the waiting area nervous about what could be wrong with my truck Tony was being very nice and accommodating. He even made me coffee. As I waiting I noticed people coming in and out. Some customers where very rude and made me feel uncomfortable but Tony and Seth's reaction towards them were extremely professional. I was very please with them and felt more confident that this was perfect decision choosing this auto shop. After one of the shop guys took my truck out for a test ride, Seth told me that he replaced the caps and my truck is working perfectly fine. As I pull out my wallet terrified about the amount I was going to spend I was pleasantly surprised instead. My total came out to be WAY less than expected. Due to it not taking much time to service my truck I wasn't charged the full amount. I couldn't be more happier at the moment. I can make it home worry free and with money to spare for gas. Recently I had a terrible experience with another repair shop that did a horrible job and broke more things than they fixed. I promised myself I would never take my car to any other place other than to the Mazda dealership. I have a 2008 Mazda, I purchase my car in 2011. I was never 100% happy with my ac. It did an ok job, but I noticed older cars would blow colder air. I took it to different mechanics and they claimed nothing was wrong. So over the past 4 years I just dealt with it. In the last week I noticed my ac stopped blowing cold air all together, and taking it to the dealership is extremely inconvenient for me. So I began researching repair shops near by and decide to take my car to City Garage which, I'm extremely happy that I did. They informed me they found the high pressure ac hose leaking. They had to replace the hose. It was pretty pricey but I'm guessing it's less expensive than taking it to the dealership. At this point I'm just happy my ac works, it works better than when I first purchase the car 4 years ago. I'm definitely coming back to fix the repairs the other repair shop caused. I went in to have my A/C worked on - I came out with a damaged computer and a Don't Come Back from the head of their Customer Service Department, Mr. Phillip Bell. They completely refuse to take any kind of ownership of the problem, which did not exist before they took possession of my vehicle. AAA recommended this shop when my car broke down. I had my car towed there. Tny promptly looked at my car and gave me a price of $550 to replace my radiator and thermostat, plus another $100 to replace hoses. Then there would be another $150 to do an engine compression check. Now I am at an $800 bill. Not worth it on a 1999 Vehicle. I had it towed away, paid $100 for a radiator (retail) and $150 to get the radiator put on, in my presence. I saw the condition of the hoses - soft and flexible. The person repairing the radiator said he doubted that I would need a thermostat unless the temp guage went above the midway point. The guage stayed at midway all afternoon. No thermostat needed. Job done for $250 instead of $800. I was willing to pay City Garage for checking the car, but at $50 for doing so, I questioned what exactly had been done. At that point, I was told to forget about it. Buyer beware of price gouging. read more

Took my vehicle in this past weekend to get a few things done (headlight replacement, oil change, alignment, and new brakes). First thing is they really tried to avoid giving any kind of ballpark estimate over the phone (first red flag), but my brakes were bad so I didn't have more time to shop around. I took my vehicle in and dropped it off, only to get a call about an hour later telling me the work I needed to have done was going to cost almost $2500! The said they would have to charge $160 just in labor to get my bumper off to replace the headlight (this is not even counting the price of the actual headlight), they said that I needed a brake and a power steering flush at $120 a piece, over $120 to do an alignment, they said that my power steering hose was leaking and it would be over $700 to replace that and they quoted me at almost $400 per axle for the brakes (not to mention that $60 oil change)! I was absolutely blown away by what they were trying to get out of me so I came back and took my vehicle home, completely having wasted my morning. I then took my vehicle over to brakes plus, where they confirmed my suspicions that the power steering hose was not leaking (did not need to be replaced) and they were able to do all of the other work (the headlight, power steering flush, brake flush, the oil change, the brakes front and back, and the alignment) for $710 out the door. That headlight that was going to cost me $160 in labor? They got the bumper off and bulb replaced in less than 5 minutes. DO NOT GO TO CITY GARAGE UNLESS YOU ARE OK WITH BEING INSANELY OVERCHARGED AND ARE FINE WITH GETTING REPAIRS YOU DON'T NEED! read more

You have to love it when you pull up and the mechanic is standing in the garage next to cars smoking. Yes, in the garage with oil and gas everywhere. I pull and he just looks at me and doesn't move. Not a word. So finally ask him if I could get an oil change. He looks at his watch and says he doesn't have time. This was 5:30. They close at 7. Apparently they don't want my business. Then I get a message telling me that he was not smoking inside the garage. Basically calling me a liar. That's awesome. And he told me that they offered to set up an appointment for the next day. This never happened. He was only interested in me leaving. I get the feeling that the guy sending me the message is the same guy standing in the garage ignoring me smoking. It's all starting to make since now. I'm glad I got out of there when I did. Please go somewhere else. If they are willing to lie to me there is no telling what they are going to lie about your car. read more

I explained the noise my car was making and left it with them for 3 hours so they could determine the problem. I was told I needed front struts and sway bar links and given an estimate of $1100. I drive a 2005 Honda Accord. I cannot afford that, but purchased the parts on line and had a friend replace the struts and sway bar links. Well, come to find out it wasn't my struts. There was NOTHING wrong with my struts. It continued to make the creaking noise and it is my control arms and bushings. I don't know which mechanic determined struts but he is incompetent. I took my car there to have a radiator put in. They did that fine. I get a call telling me I need all kinds of other work when I didn't ask them to check anything else. I get my car and my steering wheel is loose and my airbag light is on. We tell them that it has never been on before. They ask me to bring it back so I told them I would after work the next day. Well on my way home my check engine light came on. So I took it to them and they told me that they could look to see why my airbag light came on but it something is broken then I have to pay to have it fixed. Then with the check engine light they told me they could have hit a sensor so they just cleared the code. Oh and while I was there I pointed out that they had one of the hoses for my radiator routed the wrong way. I didn't take my car back to them cause I believe they messed it up!! Oh and my check engine came back on again. I will never go back there and will tell everyone I know to never use them. They are why most people don't trust mechanics!!! Can't say enough good things about this place. They are professional and courteous, and the service is fast and reasonably priced! They also are opened late and have Saturday hours. Their oil changes are all-inclusive - no additional charges for oil disposal! They also have rebates available in the store when they are available.
