After calling a couple of businesses for quotes on getting my air filters replaced. I came across Watauga Automotive and gave them a call. I spoke with who I believe is the owner, Eric who was friendly on the phone, shared the cost on the phone and mentioned I could come right away. I came to the shop where I was quickly greeted and served. One of the staff looked over my car and shared what needed and didn't need to be fixed in less than ten minutes. They have a small waiting area with plenty of books, magazines and a water cooler. I paid a fraction of the price I would have paid at the Honda Dealership and was given advice about car maintenance from Eric. Long story, short: car has been stalling and went to autozone to have them check my battery and they said that my alternator had broke. Asked for this place to replace my alternator, and they said that they'll do it. But before they did it, they rechecked to see if my alternator was bad. It was not. Saved me $735. Ran a diagnostic and found nothing wrong with it mechanically. Still trying to figure out why my car is acting up, but these guys helped me save money on a nonissue. After all the rave reviews, I thought this shop would be a good place to bring my car to. Major dissappoinment & trust issues with this shop: Here's the story: Brought my car in for a state inspection and to check out front driver side rattling noises. Was charged $25.50 for the state inspection and $41.76 + $3.00 (Shop supplies) for the "level one diagnosis" on the rattle noise. Was told by Andy someone will call later that day or the next day with the repair estimates for fixing the rattling sound. "The $41.76 diagnosis charge can be used toward the repair". It's been 6 days and no calls. I called in multiple times and left voicemails, even show up in person and was told by Andy the "Master Mechanic" was not available to comment or recommend a repair. So, I paid a total of $70.50 for a state inspection (normally, $25.50) and still my car has a unnerving rattle while driving down the highway. Do not trust anything this shop says. read more

I normally dont review places, but the general public should understand what they are dealing with Watauga Automotive. I took my vehicles there before Covid as I felt they are honest and fairly priced for their services. However, it seems that they maybe have some new mechanics in their shop. I originally had my motors mounts in my 2011 Nissan Sentra replaced by Watauga Automotive back in November of 2023, since Nissan of Bedford told me that they needed replaced. Watauga Automotive confirmed this and I agreed to let them do the work (lower mount and torque rod) since they were priced considerably cheaper than Nissan ($696.40). This repair was under warranty and the lower mount that Watauga Automotive replaced the first time needed replaced again in February. However, Andy told me that I would also need to replace the transmission mount. I let them know to do the repairs needed - they kept my car two weeks ($554.44). When I picked up the car Andy told me that the transmission mount they got from the parts house was not correct and had some tolerance, so they put a piece of rubber on it (yeah you read that right) to adjust for this - he let me know that the parts house would not take it back or replace the part and if I wanted them to replace it again I would have to rebuy the part again (just how is that my problem, sounds to me like that is a part between Watauga Automotive and the parts house not me). The car then had a very noticeable vibration when it was idling, so I took the car back two days later, for them to diagnose the problem because every car forum online said it was the motor mounts. However, Watauga Automotive kept telling me it was way the car was idling and they even reset the idle (which only required them to disconnect the battery and drive it as I understand it) - after they had my car for another week! I picked up my car again - after warning them that I was going out of state to OKC and needed the car to run right, they acted like there was no problem and told me to take the car for a test drive - so I did took it to Dallas and back- and within 20 miles the vibration was back. I took it back to Watauga Automotive again and asked them to look at it again. This time they kept my car five weeks! they never bothered to call and update me and in fact I had to go up to the shop to ask if they had any progress. When I got up there Andy asked me what I thought was wrong with the car - and what I had read online! (Unbelievable, the professional mechanic asking the customer what they thought was wrong!). I knew then they were not interested to repairing the car and they were not going to rework any parts they had already replaced either. I made it very clear to Watauga Automotive (Andy and the two shop mechanics) that I was going to take the car to Nissan so they could repair it. Nissan said right from the start that is was the motor mounts and had my car for one week - replaced the new motor mounts that Watauga Automotive put in my car (and yes they even noticed the piece of rubber that Watauga Automotive wedged in the transmission mount- which I still have by the way) for a total of $1578.75. It runs perfectly, but I wanted to give Watauga Automotive a chance to make things right. So took my car and the invoice from Nissan up there and showed Andy - to which he said -"well we got the parts from Nissan and we were at a loss, at least your car is fixed now". So, everyone please, please take notice of this review - and understand what you are dealing with regarding Watauga Automotive. I used them as my main mechanic since 2017 and took many cars to them - my Chevy Tracker, my Jeep Compass, my Nissan Sentra, my Hyundai Accent - so I am not just picking on them, they were my go to mechanic for YEARS. But since Covid they are not anywhere what they used to be in terms of getting the job done right. I also reported this issue to the BBB as well - and guess what Watauga Automotive never responded to the complaint I filed- because they know they have don't have an excuse. So now I am out $2829.59 on motor mounts due to Watauga Automotive's inability to just change out parts for the correct parts needed for the repair (not to mention that i went without my car for 9 weeks!). I have learned to just take your car to the dealership at least they will backup their warranty completely. In short, I read the reviews Watauga Automotive about how they care, and they are honest, and fairly priced - and picked them due to that. But hear me out - they knew those parts were inferior and that is why they put the piece of rubber on the mount - they just did not want to take ownership of the problem and make it right - and Andy even told me that JD would not replace the parts. They are cheaper for a reason, and you have been warned. read more

I just came here for a inspection, and 20 minutes later was leaving. Would have been quicker, except someone was ahead of me. My wife recommends this place for car work because they are very reliable, don't try to add extra services to make more money, etc. She's even brought her mother's car in here for work that needed done. At one point, my wife was in a very bad car wreck and had her SUV here for a couple of years trying to settle a lawsuit and try to get it fixed. Unfortunately, her lawyer ghosted her and she couldn't come up with the money needed to get her vehicle fixed, but this business tried to do everything to work with her about that, before she was told the SUV had to go. But, with how hard they were trying to work with her, it's not something anyone does anymore and it wasn't just about the money. The honestly wanted to satisfy her as a customer. So no matter what needs done, this place will work with you and explain exactly what needs done, why, doesn't talk down to someone just because they are female (unlike many shops/mechanics will do). Five stars and less $$?? I'm in!! Scheduling the repair was a challenge because my calendar is unusually busy this week. JD fit me in at short notice at noon and had the repair completed at the quoted price by closing. I also mentioned a couple other issues with the car that he looked at for me at no extra charge, including my keyless entry which has been out of commission for months. So far so good! My car is running much better. Andy was very thorough with the tech's findings and recommendations, he also gave us some great alternatives for some things going on with our vehicle. The waiting area was definitely cleaner than most smaller repair shops that I've been to. It has a warm feel, could be a woman's touch with the decor that helped with that? I would absolutely feel comfortable with bringing my kids in to wait with me for a quick visit if I needed to. We got brakes and rotors worked on, and the inspection done. I was told by a Toyota dealership that I needed a new transmission to resolve my issue with my Camry. Imagine my surprise at the cost they quoted...not. I search for someone else that could do the work and found Watauga Automotive. After some discuss with Andy I decided to go with a used transmission but he wanted me to bring it in so they could do their own diagnostic and make the determination. Chris, the FANTASTIC tech drove my car and didn't think that was the problem. The diagnostic was ran and surprise surprise the issue was that my car was low on oil. Which was also a surprise since I had the oil changed at the dealership the day before. Well long story short they added the oil and my car was fine. They want a follow up at 1,500 which will happen and I will get the oil change I didn't get at the dealership then. So when you see comments that this is a family run automotive business ....it's true. Andy and Chris were amazing and spent time discussing my car issues with me and ladies....I wasn't treated as if I had no brains here. They were supportive and explained everything. I have found the place to take my car to...a place I can trust. BTW...I waited for the diagnostics to be done and I was there as other people came in to pick up their cars and they were all treated great. I will definitely take my car here in future. read more

After reading reviews here on Yelp, I took my 27-year-old Nissan in to Watauga Automotive for my State Inspection, and to have a couple of other small things looked at. Inspection found I needed new wipers and a turn signal bulb. They replaced both - and even filled my water reservoir and cleaned my front window! That was embarrassing, but I was grateful! I'd been told, by a different dealer that I needed my brake fluid changed - and my trunk wouldn't open with the key. The guy at Watauga fixed the trunk lock and checked the brake fluid. Then, I was told not only was the fluid not dirty and didn't need changing - it was also at the correct level! I walked out of there on a cloud. Not only was all this done at a fair price - they didn't lie to me once! I'm an old woman with an old car. Automotive dealers see me coming and to (finally) find a great place to help me stay on top of this car with repairs was like a miracle! Repaired an air and fuel problem I was having. Andy did an excellent job communicating what was going on with my car and the potential things that could be wrong with it. He lead me to go the least expensive route and to go from there suggesting the least expensive thing to fix could fix some of the other issues I was having. So far, the problem with the fuel and airflow is fixed and no more check engine light. I was happy with the price I was charged which seamed fair and reasonable.
