I took my 80-year old mother to City Garage. She paid $700 to get her car repaired, but soon after she paid this amount in full, we found out the car's idling problem had not been fixed. We discovered this after being stranded in the unbearable 90-degree heat for 45 minutes. City Garage had misdiagnosed what caused the car to shut down when idling. For my elderly mother, $700 was a lot of money! Instead of leaving a negative review, I want to share the lessons I learned. These lessons will help you avoid my mistakes and save you some money no matter where you take your car for repairs: 1) Above all ask questions: When I was at City Garage, I did ask several questions, but I neglected to ask this very important one: Can you assure me that when you do this repair the problem will be resolved? Always ask this question. If they answer Yes, proceed with the repair, but if they answer No or waffle, walk away. 2) Don't make assumptions: Manager Logan was out the day we visited, so my mother and I dealt with Jacob. I assumed that Jacob had an extensive car background, but after the work was done, I learned from Logan that he manages the books for the company. A bookkeeper should NOT advise customers. When Jacob spoke about the car's mechanical problem, I viewed him as an authority. Mistake #1. I assumed he knew more than me. Mistake #2. Don't assume anything about someone's credentials. Ask them about their background, training, and technical expertise. If they are not forthcoming, that's a red flag. 3) Talk to the tech directly: I did not talk to the tech who did the computer analysis on the car. I just spoke to "bookkeeper" Jacob. I should have asked the tech questions about why he thought replacing the alternator would be the solution. I should of asked him about what tests he had done about the idling problem, and I should have seen for myself the results of the computer analysis. I regret not doing that. Trust is blinding! If the tech had idled the car for 40 minutes or so after he had installed the new alternator to check his work, he would have discovered that it had made no difference whatsoever. The car would have shutdown. Surprisingly, the tech never asked me one question and Jacob was not qualified to ask a question. Red flag! A conscientious auto mechanic always asks questions. 4) Keep this advice in mind: Logan told me that he was a Christian. I think he, the owner, and the employees should follow Jesus's good advice: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." This should be the litmus test for any business that cares about its customers. I can only imagine how Logan would have felt if he had spent $700 on his vehicle, only to find out that the problem he had paid to be fixed had not been repaired. We can't idle the car and run the air, so being in the car on these hot summer days is intolerable, especially for an elderly person. If we want the car to be fixed, we now have to spend hundreds of more dollars. In the spirit of customer relations, Logan offered to diagnose the car's problem again for free. I felt the offer was laughable, because if City Garage was not competent to correctly assess the problem the first time, there was no reason to believe they would be able to do it a second time. The owner refused my request to have my mother credited for the alternator upcharge and the labor. Logan then offered a token credit of $100. I initially accepted it, but after some thought, my mother and I agreed to reject the offer. City Garage betrayed our trust. They committed fraud. We no longer trust them with the car. They were dishonest and incompetent, so they have lost our business for good. Stay away from City Garage. If you have a problem with your car, take it to a mechanic who is competent and honest. read more

Have taken multiple vehicles in our family to City Garage , for different issues, from major to minor repairs , and always found them to be efficient, courteous and do what is best for the customer! Also has to be the cleanest repair shop I've ever seen which tells me the little things matter. Besides saving me a lot of money on some repairs - They saved my mom $1100 on a repair from what another shop told her was required. Another time they fixed a minor issue for her as part of another repair at no cost , after she was quoted $100 from another place. They very easily could have just gone off the same estimate , but they truly care about the customer, and do what's best for them. i won't go anywhere else ! read more

Made a big mistake when I trusted City Garage. They did NOT fix my car after I paid them a lot of money. They kept my money! I trusted Jacob and Logan but they turned out to be bozos. Send in the clowns! I told them they had screwed up big time but they chose not to stand behind their work. They are incompetent. They did not treat me right as a customer. They don't know what they were doing. A customer pays to have their car fixed not to be a guinea pig. They messed up the paperwork. They messed up the problem with the car. They messed up the repair. They messed up the warranty. They messed up my relationship with them. They messed up their good name. They whole place is a total mess! City Garage is populated by screwups and misfits. They should not be in the auto repair business. They have a mechanic who didn't fix anything, a manager who didn't manage anything, and a customer service rep who doesn't know anything! My case has a long paper trail, so if City Garage challenges this review, you will know they are not being truthful. In my opinion, City Garage is the worst mechanic in Lakeland. Do yourself a favor and stay far far away from this horrible place. read more
