Ordered the ribs and they were terrible. Overcooked, bony ends with very little meat and too sweet sauce. The best part of the meal was the coleslaw. Waiter was nice but when we told him the food was bad he just said sorry. Didn't offer to get something else.... a free dessert would have gone a long way. I know it wasn't his fault, and told him that but then he never returned to the table. Inside the restaurant is confusing. Are you a "Bar and Grill" or a fine dining restaurant? City Limits is a cool looking restaurant in Colby with old antique decorations on the wall. It's definitely a little on the pricey side for Colby but we decided to give it a try anyway. I ordered Rocky Mountain Oysters as an appetizer and I was somewhat disappointed because they were smaller than I've seen them in other places. Pretty good though. It was my first time trying them and they were more tender than I expected. My Roast Beef Sandwich was pretty good but nothing special. I realized after we left that they forgot the horseradish sauce. My wife enjoyed her Club Sandwich. Service was good. Probably wouldn't go back though. read more

We had great service. I tried hot chicken sandwich and my sister had beef tips w ravioli. Both meals were delicious. Chicken was crispy and the hot honey added the perfect accent. The ravioli was perfectly cooked and the sauce was flavorful but delicate. (Might have had pictures but we dove in too quick - ha ha) Strawberry shortcake added that extra something. Considering the location, it worked great. We were on a road trip from PA back to CO and our 2nd days end ended in Colby. Ready for a beer and grub, before settling in at the hotel, City Limits was jn focus, so we bellied up for a beer and reviewed the menu. The Reuben was suggested with optional Sweet potato fries which my friend got though I stuck with regular fries.Both were good. Overall, the service was fine and the food was good. As a Reuben Connesoire, it filled the gullet, but didn't win any "best of" awards. .Would I stop in again? Sure!....when in Colby, KS! read more

We had eaten here a few years ago when passing through Colby, KS. We travel between Columbus, OH and Denver, CO several times a year. We usually push a little further west than Colby when stopping for the night but occasionally stop in Colby Tonight, Colby was our destination and City Limits Bar and Grill was on the agenda for dinner. It was as good as I remembered from a few years ago. The menu listed a "chef's special" (ask your server for details). Imagine my delight when tonight's special was Shepherds Pie. I'm part Irish and can't pass up a good potato dish - especially Shepherd's Pie. The Shepherd's Pie at City Limits was OUTSTANDING and exceeded my expectations. My wife opted for the Short rib sandwich that came with fries. She said her sandwich was excellent and I can attest that the fries were also excellent as she shared her fries. It reminded me of a little restaurant in Dublin, Ireland where I ordered Shepherd;s Pie and the waitress asked me if I wanted fries or mashed potatoes. I said I thought Shepherd's Pie was always made with mashed potatoes and she replied "I meant for your side dish". I guess we Irishmen really like our potatoes. Service was excellent. The ambiance is nice. The server had taken a while to get to the table. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich with fries. The sandwich on the menu said it came with lettuce and tomato. I asked if they would add pickle and onion with a side of mayonnaise. It arrived with pickle and onion and none of the other items. I had taken a bite and the texture was weird and had no flavor. I added salt & pepper and tried a couple of the worst French fries. I spoke to the server that it was not fit to eat. There was no offer to replace it with something else. $24 later with tip. I went to the gas station across the street and bought a $6 cheeseburger. It was a lot better than what I had at the restaurant. Now I understand the negative reviews. read more

Stopped in at 730pm passing thru from Sturgis to our overnight stop in Garden City and needed some dinner. It's possible the bar of expectations was low when we saw it was attached to the hotel BUT I have to say that changed... The place has a full bar and I ordered my Four Roses-neat and the Korean Sticky Ribs. Delish and gorgeous, both obviously. My husband ordered the fish and chips and it was huge and proper, with a great crust and juicy inside. Tartar sauce complimented it well. The couple we were with ordered the sliders with fries and said it was great! Included a nice sweet brioche bun with house-made pickles and the burger was perfectly cooked. Also, the food order was brought to us in a very proper and professional setting by the food runner. They wine pours were perfect and the homemade lemonade was perfectly delish!! Our waitress did perfect, discussed what the specials were, was prompt on drinks and order, told us the menu was just recently updated and was courteous. Her name was Kaity according to our receipt. They advertise on billboards up and down I70 that they have the best steaks in Kansas. News flash: they don't. I had the ribeye, asking for medium-rare plus a little. It was overcooked, and without not a lot of ribeye flavor. I sent it back to the kitchen and it came back with the comment that it looked right in the kitchen light. Well, it might have looked right, but it didn't have the soft squishy feel of a medium rare steak. And, the baked potatoes came out warm, but not warm enough to melt the butter. My dining partner had the salmon, which was severely overcooked to the point where she couldn't finish it. The meal was not worth the price. Service was good. read more

I asked the server if she could put it back on to get it done and hot. She apologized and sent it back. Came back 5 minutes later and basically they threw it in the microbe and melted the butter. Potato still barely warm. Still hard. Then we get to the steak. Ordered medium rare. If I had known they were going to serve up the cheapest quality beef I would have ordered medium. Full of tendons and fat. Zero seasoning. Cold piece of meat that I needed to trim almost half of the fat which was cold to even try to eat it. I get that there are high quality steaks and low quality but when you charge $56 for a steak and it is at bast a $10 steak, give me a break. read more

It saddens me to see this place go down hill. But everyone needs to know the experience you'll be getting here. Last week me and my wife went in to eat. I ordered their chicken cordon blue, and tell me why the chicken was still pink and the sauce was crusty and cold. My wife ordered the jumbo shrimp (which came with 4 pieces of shrimp for $32) and found hair in it. OUTRAGEOUS. When our waiter finally came and checked on us after 45 minutes (I believe her name was Ashley) she said there was nothing she could do about it but would ask her manager, but then 10 minutes later proceeded to bring the check and said the manager wasn't there. Just South of exit 53 off of I70 in the town of Colby KS, I discovered a jewel. Tucked behind a hotel and next to a truck stop is City Limits Bar and Grill. The new Chef, who evidently has only been there 2 months, has created a menu worthy of a Michelin star! I have eaten from one coast to the other and am rarely impressed. This "hole in the wall" truly impressed. I had the most succulent Ruben Sandwich I have ever had. This was truly reflective of something you would get in the best of New York Delis. If you live in the area, or just passing through, this establishment is worth your time. read more

We stayed overnight in Colby while traveling between Estes Park and Wichita. Our hotel clerk suggested this restaurant. We arrived for an early dinner and found the place fairly empty. We were seated promptly and our drink orders taken. Dinner orders were taken soon after. We ordered meatloaf and a mushroom Swiss burger. The meatloaf came with a choice of side plus soup and salad bar. My husband chose to have a 2nd side in lieu of the salad bar. I had the burger, which came with one side. I chose sweet potato fries. My husband enjoyed his meatloaf, and I my burger. The sweet potato fries were excellent. My biggest complaint is that the Swiss cheese was a very thin, barely visible slice. The restaurant's large dining room (there are at least 3 eating spaces) is all knotty pine paneling, with low lighting. The atmosphere was pleasant. Pricing seemed reasonable to us. It appeared as if there was only one waitress serving the large dining room on the Wednesday evening we were there, but she did just fine. read more

What steakhouse has on their menu that they serve the steak with béarnaise but are out of béarnaise? And they do not tell you prior to providing your meal. Why do they have duck on the menu stating it has crispy skin and provide pre-sliced RAW duck breast with mushy skin? I couldn't even cut through it. We ordered soup and she never brought the soup, so while she was talking to her friends at the bar, I went up and asked her if they were bringing the soup in advance of the meal and it turned out there was a salad bar with soup that came with the meals; however, it was on the other side of a partition so we had no idea. Just traveling through and stumbled upon this gem! Staff was friendly and great, smoked old-fashioned was a fantastic cocktail to start the meal. They served the most delicious ribeye I have had in a long while - mashed potato and broccoli sides matched the steak perfectly. Portions are huge, so we split a 12 ounce ribeye, which, paired with a shared salad, was a big meal for 2. We ordered the Greek salad, which was very good, albeit quite overdressed. If you want a light and healthy lunch while on the road, this is the place to be. This place is hidden from the hustle bustle of the travel center. They have soup and salad buffet which is exactly what I needed after sitting in the car driving all morning. There are plenty of seating inside the restaurant and it's great for big groups. Our one breakfast restaurant closed. City Limits has picked up the challenge and is now open for breakfast Saturday and Sunday. It doesn't seem well known yet as the restaurant was not even half full, but my husband and I hope the word will get around by word-of-mouth. Chef Keith does a magnificent job of cooking to order. Last Saturday (03/25/2023) husband ordered chicken-fried steak with over-medium eggs. He only left the potatoes behind. I had the sirloin steak (medium-rare -- yum!) with soft scrambled eggs. We took home half of my steak and a good amount of potatoes for our Sunday breakfast. Really tasty and delicious. So, fellow Colby neighbors, we highly recommend City Limits for weekend brunches. Table service, good menu, pleasant staff and a full bar (Irish Coffees anyone?). What more does anyone need? Oh, yes. the coffee is hot and warming on a nasty sleeting morning in Colby. read more

Absolutely loved eating here. Both husband I had the salad bar and soup. All soups are homemade. Didn't appear to be loaded in salt which we can't have.
