Had dinner here while traveling thru Kansas. Wasn't expecting a good Mexican food experience but I was wrong. Very nice decor inside and we were immediately greeted with smiles. Large dining area with booths and tables. Cool little bar area with tv's. Yelp shows it's located inside a hotel but it's actually separate from the hotel (same parking lot) in the strip mall located behind the hotel. They start you off with complimentary chips and salsa. I ordered the carnitas taco dinner. 3 double tortilla tacos completely stuffed with meat, topped with cilantro and onions. Side of delicious whole pinto beans with chorizo in them complimented the tacos perfectly! The other two people in my party enjoyed their meals as well. Stopped in on our way to Colorado for lunch. Huge restaurant. Clean and nice setting with Mexican music playing. We ordered our drinks and got them pronto. Then ordered our lunch and got that almost as fast. Hubby got a taco salad and I got the lunch special. It's an okay Mexican restaurant.. The salsa is thin without a lot of flavor. The tortillas were stiff and cardboardy. Two of us shared a portion of vegetable fajitas and had more than enough to eat. We were glad the sign on the wall about specials mentioned that their fajitas came with cheese sauce- it's not mentioned on the menu anywhere. We don't want cheese sauce on our vegetables. The guacamole was strange- kind of soupy. Service was exceptionally quick. But most of the men look similar and we could not really tell which one was our waiter since one brought us salsa, snother brought us water and yet another brought us our fajitas. I'm a Southern California native where we call Mexican food just "food." I'm a little weary visiting Mexican places in the Midwest, simply because it's not what I'm used to. I was driving with my family from St Louis back to CA when we wanted to stop somewhere quickly to get something to eat. We tried Taco Johns, but discovered they close earlier than their signage indicates. Still craving mexican, we took a shot in the dark and tried this place as we noticed it nearby and it was still open. My dad and I were both shocked when we walked in at how nice the place was and how many great menu options they had. The staff was welcoming and fixed me up an excellent margarita in no time. The chips and salsa were excellent, which made us excited for our entrees. We took them to go and were blown away by the portion size and value. The only thing left was the taste. BOOM! Amazing. I ordered Chicken Mole Poblano, one of my favorites, and it felt like instant comfort food. My dad ordered a steak Quesadilla that was easily one of the largest he's ever had. Everything there was so good, we weren't even mad our original plan for dinner fell through, we were just glad we found this place. 10/10 would recommend and are definitely going to swing by every time we take this roadtrip! The food was great, came out fast (restaurant was not busy), hot. Got the chile rellenos (not crispy). Two big, battered poblanos stuffed with cheese and served with a red sauce. Flavorful, not too spicy. The sauce complemented, not overpowered the taste of the poblanos and cheese. Served with refried beans (+++) and rice. Well made classic margarita. Chips and salsa at the table, salsa has a little bit of a bite on the back end, but not super spicy. Service was fast, fast, fast and very friendly. Based on price on previous Yelp reviews, I was expecting much less than what we encountered. Very nice place, much larger than I expected. Talked to some locals that were in a nearby booth who regularly dine there. Always a good sign. read more

This is your typical small town Mexican restaurant. Located north of the interstate it is an easy on/off if you want something more than standard fast food. Service here was quick and the menu featured all the regular items. There is also a full bar which makes a pretty good margarita. I arrived here late at night (little after 9). Some other places in town had already closed but was surprised to see this one still open. I ordered a combo number three which is a taco, enchilada and chili rellano. Nothing special and did not come with rice and beans since it was three items. It only cost $9 so no complaint there. The taco and enchilada were beef. Here they only had ground beef. No shredded beef available so it is a little better than Taco Bell but not much. The rellano was just cheese which is how I prefer them. Again, it was good but average. Chips and salsa were ok. Salsa had a little kick which I like but mostly runny. In all it was a good stop along the interstate. Nothing to brag about but still a decent meal. read more

Ok so I'm seriously Impressed with this restaurant!! The margaritas are Huge and delicious!! I ordered the Santa Fe Chicken for my dinner the other night. The plates are ginormous but so delectable and filling!! My husband ordered a Shrimp Cocktail for his appetizer and it was Huge and delicious! It contained chunks of fresh avocado and chock-full with shrimp!! The ambiance is inviting and it's a beautiful place to eat and to relax . The servers are very well-spoken and helpful. Wow was this place a pleasant surprise! In this town where fast food is pretty much the only other option, I was floored by this place. I lucked out that the special was Birria tacos and the bartender knew how to make an incredible skinny margarita. I have to say I am floored by the seriousness of the bar options. I love a Blanco tequila and there must be a dozen or so at this place! The bartender recommended the flan to top everything off, and it did not disappoint. We are from Texas, and we eat a lot of Mexican food. I would say that we are often a little underwhelmed with Mexican food the further we get away from home, but we were very impressed with El Dos de Oros. We were so impressed that we are thinking about going a touch out of our way to stay in Colby and go there again on our next road trip. New location. Restaurant was referred to us by our hotel staff. To say that our palates were pleasantly surprised is a massive understatement. As we enjoyed a very tasty pitcher of margaritas, then grazed on fresh guacamole, shrimp cocktail, chips and salsa, quesadilla Tropicana and a chicken chimichanga, we watched them expertly handle a bus load of tourists. The food and drink were divine, the staff responsive yet unobtrusive. Far more food than we could possibly eat, but well worth stopping again next time we're in town. read more

On our way to Colorado Springs from St Louis, we stopped over night in Colby. We are retired, getting old and don't have to do these trips all in one day to preserve time. Colby gave us a short second day drive. While I normally avoid restaurants in hotels and motels we decided on El Dos de Oros because it looked more like one that moved into the Quality Inn rather than being run by them. We were surprised to find a fairly roomy place that was really bustling on a Wednesday night. We also had pretty good food. We have eaten in dozens of these little small town family Mexican places. Some are good many are not. Based on one stop here, I would place EDdO in the good category and if we make this trip in the same way, we would eat here again. I had very good huevos con chorizo for dinner despite it being offered only on the lunch menu. I also ordered chiles torreados which were not listed (rarely are) and they cheerfully provided me exactly what I wanted. The chiles were very nicely prepared including well grilled onions. I had a great meal. Ms T had some gringo fare; ground beef tacos which she rated in the 3-4 range. We were in agreement, EDdO is an above average place for standard family style Mexican. I am giving them a 3-1/2 rating despite the clumsy name. read more

Well, this was an interesting restaurant. Wait staff was very cordial. When were seated there were very few patrons. That changed quickly as the evening approached. The beer was cold. The margarita was made with premade mix and not memorable. The food was okay and portions were large. It definitely wasn't the quality of Mexican food that we are used to. The salsa was watery and tasted like spicy ketchup. Interestingly, there was a large crowd waiting to be seated when we left. If the locals like it, who am I to criticize? read more
