Happened in Colby on the eay back home from Colorado. I always use Yelp to find an interesting local non chain place to eat. Reading the reviews on Twistets. We decided to give them a try. A little off the beaten path, but well worth the drive. We always sit at the bar to get a little closer to a local feel and great service. Wasn't really hungry, but I needed something . I ordered the grilled cheese burger and have to agree with others their burgers are the bomb... right up there using the word "best". Beer was ice cold and a very friendly bill. We were driving back home from Denver and I wanted more than a fast food stop. I started looking at choices from Goodland to Hayes and was intrigued by Twister's. Definitely the exterior is 'Don't judge a book by its cover', but our food was solid and our busy server nice. It was 5ish so not a busy yet, but busy enough. We shared the Bacon, Bourbon chicken which was cooked perfectly. They have a $5 split charge, but that's because you get an extra salad, side & roll. Very busy when we got there. From previous reviews we had to try Twisters. It did not disappoint. The food was delicious, generous helpings and very reasonably priced. The only negative was they were a little short of help. Our waitress was running trying to keep up. The good news was thanks to Yelp we got a free appetizer! I love a good dive bar and Twisters is a great example of what a good dive bar should be. It's just down the road from the Hampton Inn. Nothing fancy here but there are great people here both locals hanging out for a few beers and the servers working here. There is a separate room with a couple of pool tables and a door leading to an outside area with a pergola that will keep the sun off you if having a beer outside is your preference. I thought the food was very good. If you check in on Yelp, you get a free appetizer. We had the Corn Nuggets which was a no brainer because there is nothing but massive corn fields all around us. The decision didn't disappoint us either. They were the tastiest little bites of a type of corn fritter. I just wished the had some chopped jalapeños mixed in or maybe some onions. The Grilled ribeye sandwich was delicious and the cook it to your doneness preference which for me is medium rare. It was tender and seasoned nicely. My wife had a cheesesteak which she liked. I came close to ordering the Bull Fry Basket (Rocky Mountain Oysters/Bull balls) but decided I'd do it next time. Hotel receptionist recommended Twisters. Here I found a no frills, friendly joint, with good, cold beer and a nice meal. The Hamburger was cooked as requested and the French fries were crispy, hot and tasty. My waitress was friendly, helpful and there when I needed her. This place is clearly the local hangout and gets busy, even on a weeknight. I see why, the food is good, the atmosphere is inviting, the prices are reasonable and its a great place to meet friends after work or for dinner. Stop Here! Prices are AMAZING! Under $15 for almost every thing on the menu! We were traveling through Kansas and needed a little something to tide us over for the rest of the 3 hour drive home to Denver. Checked out yelp for a suggestion and the pickings were slim for a sit down place open at 2:30 PM. Just about a mile north of I-70, this place was a hidden gem. I'm not sure I would call it a bar & grill, it seems more like a neighborhood dive bar that has great from scratch food. The place was empty when we came in. We immediately were greeted by the bartender and went to the restroom before sitting down. The ladies room was clean and stocked, as was the men's room, so I'm told by my husband. We chose one of what appeared to be two booths in the whole place. There were low tables and high top tables as well. We ordered water and a dr. pepper. Both were served quickly. Our server/bartender was nice and made suggestions on the menu. We had a Cowboy Burger with American Fries and the Steak Wrap with German Potatoes. They took about 10-15 minutes to arrive. Fries were hot and fresh cut. German Potatoes were sliced and grilled with onions. I like mine crispy and if I had know they were grilled, I would have asked for them well done! There is something about that crunch in the crust! The burger was well made and flavorful. The Steak Wrap was delicious and the steak fingers inside were cooked perfectly: The Hubs said, "I would stop there again if we are traveling through town" I think that is a pretty good thing. read more

Twisters' Yelp description noted "dog friendly" and when we arrived we checked with the bar tender who said "no problem". Our waitress explained that the dog wasn't permitted. I'll admit, it looked pretty sketchy. We re-read the reviews and decided to go inside and check it out. We were greeted by a friendly waitress. The service was very good. The Patty Melt and pork chop dinner was delicious. But, the German potatoes were a hit. We even bagged the leftover potatoes to add to our morning breakfast. Left much to be desired. Wanted to eat on the patio, but all tables were in the sun, and the ground has many cigarette butts and loads of ants. The service was nice, and they allowed our pup to stay with us inside at a booth. The food was ok- not great. I had fish and corn nuggets. The fish was triangular and the nuggets were too bready. It was the second night stopping while driving from NJ to Colorado and my daughter and I wanted good food. Twisters had gotten good reviews so we went with it. The place is a local establishment and not a chain which I love. We ordered the barbecue bacon chicken sandwich and a mushroom Swiss burger with straight fries. Good little local bar which seems to be the only hot spot here. Young kids to to senior ages as far as ages. Country music and more. Not to inviting when u walk in but just drink and enjoy. I found myself at Twisters on a Wednesday evening last month while on a work trip in Colby. I had done my research and was planning on going to a different restaurant in town but it was closed for renovations, so I ended up here. This place is a dive so don't expect anything fancy. That being said, while it truthfully looked a little concerning as we approached the door, it was pretty clean and welcoming inside. They had a limited beer selection, but prices were affordable and the burger I had was quite good for just a few dollars. I would give this place four stars but while our server was really nice, we waited about an hour for our food, and then were not given any instruction on how to pay so after waiting about another hour for our check we ended up going straight to the bar to pay. Bottom line: if you're in Colby and want a place to relax with a beer and burger this is a nice option. If you're in a hurry you might consider stopping elsewhere. read more

Love this place. Food is cooked to order, even if that means rare which I prefer. They actually season the hamburger meat and probably the other items as well. Traveling through Kansas and stopped in Colby for the night. Read a great review of Twisters and decided to give it a try. Amazing atmosphere for starters, staff is super friendly. Got here at 855pm, kitchen closes at 9pm. When we asked if the kitchen was closed we got an apology but ordered a couple of beers anyway. A few minutes later a server walked towards the table with menus in hand. She told us the owner was here and said to take our order and he would make our dinners even though we were here later than they were open. Fantastic service and the food was amazing! My boyfriend and I came here one night while traveling through Kansas. When we first stepped inside, everyone was staring at us like we had our heads cut off; we were clearly visitors and I imagine the locals are there almost every night. I was genuinely terrified. But it ended up being great! Nice staff, affordable prices, and hands down the best chicken wings I've had in my whole life. This is a dive bar. But as far as dives go, this one was fun. Friendly people. Good service. Moderate drink prices. The food is supposed to be good, but the kitchen closes at 9pm so be aware if you're looking for a snack. They do have a "beer garden" but it's really just an outdoor patio area for college kids and smokers. For a small town it's a solid place to grab a drink. read more

Passing thru town and cked YELP for suggestions. Most places were closed by 2p so found Twisters to be a quiet friendly place. The steak sandwich was the best I've had in a very long time. My Rocky Mountain Oysters were tender and tasty. If I could suggest anything, it would be to get some IPAs in the inventory. Colby you have a good thing going there with live music and a beer garden. There aren't a lot of food options in Colby, KS. So when we found out the only restaurant near our hotel was closed, it looked like we'd be shut out of a meal after hours on the road. Luckily, a local biker on a red Harley and dyed white hair rolled up and pointed us in the direction of Twisters, which is a small, weathered wooden building that sits in a dirt lot on the far (and I mean far) side of town under the water tower. But it was unmistakably Twisters - it had beer posters with tornadoes on them. The inside was dark, wooden, and the laws against smoking apparently don't reach into this territory. But there were some cool tornado photos on the wall and people working there were really friendly. And they had beer. At this point, our standards for food were, well, modest. And health food is Western Kansas is an oxymoron, so you can forget about your SoCal non-fat, low-cal, vegetarian, tofu-laden salad. You're just hoping for something that has stopped kicking by the time they serve it to you. But it wasn't so bad, really. I'd eat here again any day, rather than some corporate zombie house like Fridays. The place was filled with locals. Our waitress was a doll, and was the kind of friendly you find out on the Plains. There may not have been any SoCal food, but there was none of the bs either. And they had beer. What more can you ask of western Kansas? read more
