We wanted to love this hotel. We checked in and staff was very friendly and room was clean. BUT, the first night at around midnight we heard someone banging on our door. It was a hotel worker telling us that we never checked in despite us signing all paperwork and getting keys. He tried to argue with us that we didn't check in and stayed for 5 min as my husband was pleading with him to leave and that we would deal with this in the morning. Why was this done in the dead of night ? This truly was a terrifying experience at 8 months pregnant. We brought it up to the front desk the next morning and the staff didn't seem to understand that it was ridiculous that a worker was waking up a guest at midnight to tell them they didn't check in when the paper work in their hand said we did. It felt like the staff just shrugged us off. There are plenty of hotels in the area. I'd recommend you stay there and not here. read more

Our first trip to the area was also going to be our first time staying in a "non-chain" hotel. This place wasn't a bad or terrible choice, but there was definitely some bad with the good. As stated in previous reviews and with a little research you can see, this is a renovated, old school "Travel Lodge" type place. Let's start with the bad: - Road noise. Located on a "main road", it's pretty constant. - Hallway noise. Technically exterior corridor, people talking can be easily heard....especially in the stairwell. - Parking. The parking lot is small. Maybe 14 spots that a full-size pickup truck can barely fit in. The on-site coffee shop sharing parking doesn't help. We witnessed more than once folks park, get their coffee then walk off to work! - Rooms are a little small and showing some age. Now the good: - Excellent location. Walking distance to shopping, food and the waterfront. - We we're allowed to check in early AFTER the young lady behind the counter walked down to make sure the room was ready AND after giving us room keys, walked down to make sure they worked. - Vouchers to the aforementioned coffee shop! - The bathrooms were big. Wanted to try something different on this trip to Beaufort and decided to give City Lofts a try. Great decision! It's an old Travel Lodge remodeled into a semi- boutique hotel. The pictures others posted give you a good idea what it looks like inside. The king bed, huge bath tub, rain shower, and robes set this place apart. There is even a TV in the bathroom. The location is one block from Bay Street with all the shops and restaurants. City Jave, a nice coffee shop is on location as well. The staff was very accommodating. I'm going to give this 5 stars right out of the gate! Quaint property. Very well appointed for the small exterior space. Multiple uniquely situated seating areas with umbrellas and other options for shade. A lot of thought went into all the clever details that make up for the lack of outdoor space. I'm not complaining! It's pet friendly and other than the dishes of fresh water outside you'd never know. The room is beautiful! Perfect use of space. Nicely appointed & very comfortable. The bathroom is magnificent and very clean!! Lots of towels! The hotel is quiet despite its proximity to the road. This is not a place for young children. Infant yes but toddler no. Which suits me just fine! There's nothing worse than children running up and down outside or above- there's none of that here! The customer service is fantastic. There are 2 bottles of wine in the room! A red on the desk and a white in the refrigerator! I don't know how much they are but I don't care! It's a perfect touch! There are plenty of glasses and complementary bottles of water in the refrigerator! The attached coffee shop is also adorable, very well appointed and comfortable. The best iced Mocha I have ever had! This hotel is perfectly situated within walking distance of the river, unique shops and plenty of restaurants!! Will definitely be back! read more

We very much enjoyed our stay here. We felt like it was a true "home away from home" experience. Let's start with the welcoming staff. We were warmly greeted the moment we set foot into the office and were shown directly to our room, #205, on the upper level. We were shown around our room and told about the hotel amenities. There were multiple offers to help us with our bags. The rooms have been nicely done in a neutral palette with pale green accents. The king size bed was nicely made up and was one of the more comfortable hotel beds I've slept in. The mattress had a foam topper that was heavenly. The pillows were great too. I am very particular about pillows and these were very much to my liking. The bathroom was nicely designed. There was a large shower room with a rain shower fixture that I adored. Although I am not a bath person, those who are will love the very deep soaker tub although for some it might actually be a trick to climb into. There is a flat screen TV in the bathroom in direct view of the tub for your soaking and show watching pleasure. The towels were soft, amply sized, thick and thirsty. Adorable and very much appreciated were the cotton waffled robes that were provided. My one tiny bathroom complaint involved the paper products. And as indelicate as it might be to mention, I would humbly suggest that they upgrade these items at once. The toilet paper and the tissues were very rough and it got downright uncomfortable after the first couple of days. There is a complete gym attached to the hotel which can be used for free. As well, the hotel provides bicycles. Although we didn't use them this time, I can well imagine cycling through this lovely town on another visit. The hotel is centrally located in downtown Beaufort so walking or biking would be the preferred mode of transportation especially if you're interested in taking a gander at some of the grand homes in the historic district. A bottle of red and white wine (the white being nicely chilled in the room refrigerator) is offered in the room at an extremely reasonable $16.00 per bottle. Along with wine glasses and an ice bucket you are all set for a glass of wine while getting ready to go out for dinner. The highly attentive staff will get you ice or whatever else you might require 24 hours a day. They have a lovely turn-down service every evening. We would return to our room each evening to find the bed ready to be jumped into along with two cookies and a card with the next day's weather printed on it. Right next to the hotel is a coffee shop. We were given coupons entitling us to two 16 ounce cups of coffee every day. Every morning this was most welcome. And the coffee choices were all terrific. This shop also sold baked goods, assorted other drinks, newspapers including my beloved NY Times and even a selection of wines. We hope one day to have a home in this town, but until then I would return to stay in this hotel very happily indeed. read more

Rooms are chic, bathrooms shiny white with plenty of light and a soaking tub to soothe weary bones after driving all day or walking around town. The staff are exceptionally friendly. I can't begin to tell you comfy and lovely this little place is. Beautiful clean roomy rooms, comfy beds and linen and the folks running the joint are tops ! Shout out to Damon and Christiane - both went above and beyond their job duties by making us feel we were visiting family! Our little dog was well provided for and a nominal fee was attached, handmade cookies were left for bedtime and a voucher for coffees or snacks at cafe on premises was provided-their recommendations for dining(Old Bull Tavern -get the shrimp starter and plenty of bread to sop up the deliciousness of that sauce-duck breast polenta local pork chop with creamy polenta and poppin veg-then headed to keratins for handmade chocolates and ice cream in waffle cones dipped in dark chocolate sauce. Their breakfast place was right on the water and again, the biscuits, gravy, pastry coffees and sweet tea were sublime. Never been to this hip southern coastal town but will stop in soon and stay here -the hotel is so nice and centrally located but it's the people that really made this experience a perfect 10! read more

I was searching for a last minute room for a business trip to the area and ended up booking a room at City Loft Hotel as many of the other hotels were sold out. What a lucky coincidence as I am in love with this charming hotel. You can tell the owners have put a lot of thought into the details and my only complaint is I wish I was staying longer! This is really a 4.5 star review. The motel is as it appears, a fancy motel that has been recently renovated. The service here is exemplary which is why it received a 5 vs 4 stars. Both Manny and Pete were amazing, helpful and attentive. The rooms are nice sized with comfy beds and pillows. The bathroom is huge with the deep bath and rain shower. It even has a refrigerator with water replenished daily. Turndown service includes 2 small cookies left on the pillows which were the perfect end to each day. Our minor issues were the minor musty smell that necessitated the use of the loud ac unit, the sometimes significant street/parking lot noise, and the small sized parking spaces (everyone around us had a large truck or suv). The pros significantly outweighed the cons and we would definitely stay here again. We had a great stay in beaufort. Walked us to our room and was informative. Call the front desk for ice as machine is not accessable by guests. Room had a comfy bed writing desk with lamp and desk chair, easy chair with side table and refrigerator. The bathroom is the diamond. Seperated by a wall and sliding door includes a large soaking tub, nice glass shower with rain head, sink with counter top and addition television for your entertainment. Each room has an in-wall A/C units and windows which can be opened. Bring proper electronic charging items as our room did not have any USB ports. read more

Great downtown hotel. It's definitely more trendy and modern than all of downtown Beaufort's other hotels, which if that's what you want it's a good thing. Stand outs were a good location near local restaurants, excellent deep bathtub, large comfortable memory foam topped beds, good gym with personal steam shower, and the TV in the bathroom viewable from the tub. City Loft is certainly not the Waldrof Astoria but it's an outstanding renovation of an old motel well deserving the 5 Star rating on Yelp for the city of Beaufort. What the City Loft is...is...a trendy comfortable hotel perfectly located for visitors who want to enjoy the historic district and be within walking distance of a wide variety of restaurants and shops nestled on the water. The service was fantastic and the rooms were very comfortable. The beds were big and fluffy. I liked the chairs and ottoman. My wife especially liked the deep tub for soaking. Amenities: The exercise room is quite good offering nearly the same equipment as the Westin Riverside in downtown Chicago, which I just left days earlier...so that part of the hotel is competing with the 5 Star $200 plus per night hotels. Coffee Shop: Although there's no coffee pots in the room there is a coffee shop attached (and owned) to the hotel. Who ever had the idea of having a coffee shop catering to the public while serving the hotel deserves a bog thumbs up! For the owners it ensures adequate income and maximum use of resources. For the customers and guests it produces good coffee in a comfortable atmosphere with efficient friendly staff. Overall: Being loft livers in San Diego, Washington DC and Norfolk we felt this place captured the essence of loft living. They utilize space perfectly. When we come back we're returning to the City Loft...unless my wife wants to give a B&B a try but for me I'd rather come back here. Deep, comfortable bath (with a TV in the bathroom). Large and nice walk-in shower. Wine glasses and bath robe provided. 24hr gym access. Walking distance to everything. This is a small hotel, but it has all the amenities and customer service of a large, fancy hotel. We live in Savannah, and definitely plan on several romantic day trips to Beaufort because of this hotel. So glad we found this chic, independent motel renovation when planning a trip between Charleston and Savannah. It was everything it promised to be. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We enjoyed the "boater's special" rate (no boat required) which included a bottle of wine (choice of white or red), free use of hotel bikes and a $5 certificate for the on-site coffee/breakfast/lunch spot. I booked this on the hotel's website but can also be done via phone. We had coffee and two breakfast sandwiches, both of which were excellent, and used the hotel's bikes to ride through the historic blocks of houses and the riverfront area. Finding the hotel is easy and parking is on-site (and free), which makes it super easy for loading/unloading your bags. Convenient to many restaurants. Freshly baked cookies are offered in the evenings. As other reviews have noted, the rooms are beautiful and have many nice amenities, including contemporary furnishings and art, as well as a wonderful glassed walk-in shower with a rain type shower head and just a lot of space in general in the bath. The toiletries were high quality, plentiful and are Eco-friendly in packaging. The king sized bed was very comfortable. We left a phone charger plugged into the lamp in the room, which we discovered once we arrived in Savannah. Just took one short, simple call to the hotel staff to ask if it could be mailed to our house. The package was in our mailbox when we arrived home. Arrived in Beaufort by boat. Our regular hotel was booked so we found this place. Back in the day it was a run down place called Red Carpet Inn or something similar. They have done a great job renovating and bringing out some "chic" in this cool little town. It feels new and clean. The beds are hard but after a long day of boating (or a lot of drinking) you won't mind. There is a "suite" which is really two tiny rooms hooked with a connecting door, one had a pullout. Ideal for a small group of friends but it's tight quarters. Rates are reasonable. If you are coming by boat, coordinate ahead of time for the staff to pick you up at the marina. The location was in a quiet, yet very convenient part of downtown Beaufort. The hotel is a revamped vintage motel. The room was smaller, yet very nice, clean, and simple. They have a turn down service with delicious cookies! The parking is very convenient. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was nice. Service was also amazing. You do get a $5 voucher to go to their coffee shop. It's nothing too fancy. A very small cafe with pre-made sandwiches, but it does the trick. There was an annoying fan in the room that would wake you up in the middle of the night. I think it needed to be repaired, but that was the only bad part of the place. read more

The bed was perfect, and the bathroom was incredible with a deep soaking tub and a spacious shower with four adjustable shower heads. The stay had special touches that really made it a boutique hotel: complimentary bottled water, organic toiletries, and vouchers for the awesome coffee shop on premises. There was not a single thing about this hotel that wasn't delightful, well thought-out, and unique. I loved everything about this place! It is centrally located downtown. You can walk or bike to everything. All staff were outstanding (they are present 24 hours). This is more like a hotel than motel. This place has a great vibe all around from the fantastic coffee shop downstairs (excellent espresso and many choices of baked goods) which you will be given vouchers for each day of your stay to the seated area with umbrellas outside by the free parking area. There is an attached gym for free use as well. My room (201 on upper level) was clean and the decor is nicely done in neutral colors. The bathroom was spectacular with a rain shower and a huge, deep soaker tub if you are a bath person. There is also a flat screen TV in the bathroom which I personally have never seen. The towels were soft and the waffle cotton robes were an added surprise for a hotel of this size. There were also 2 bottles of wine for purchase (red on counter and white in small fridge) of $16.00. Lastly, they even had a turndown service each evening. They left the bed ready to relax along with 2 cookies with an attached card reading the weather prediction for the next day. I had the added pleasure of meeting owners Matt and Laura a lovely couple. After having a small conversation with them I realized why this hotel is as lovely as it is, they take pride in their business and treat the guests like family.
