I visited City Master Barbers yesterday in Manalapan, NJ. I booked an appointment online for a Royal Shave. I've had straight razor shaves before but never a "royal" shave! I decided to give it a try. As this was my first time, I let their online booking system choose the person for me. Dasha did a great job. I recently had backsurgery and she was very gentle and made sure I was comfortable at every step. She was very through with the shave and the facial at the end was great. I'll Certainly be back for another Shave with Dasha! Also, I bring my son here. He's 9 yrs old and loves getting his hair cut by Seth. He picks out a photo in advance and we show Seth what my son wants and Seth makes it happen! He's very detail oriented and has a great eye for style! I have also visited Seth from time to time and each time he nails it. We'll be using Seth again for sure! Overall, everyone here is very friendly, greeting you when you enter and wishing you a good day when you leave. They're constantly cleaning up the hair on the floor, so the shop always looks clean. I was at work today and happen to have 30 minutes to kill around noon and was near City Master Barbers so I gave them a call to see if they would take a quick walk in and they said yes at that time there was no wait so I walked over there and sure enough they sat me right away. I was helped by a gentleman named Beck and typically I don't do reviews but this guy did an awesome job. He gave me a 2 / 1 fade. Took his time and really had attention to detail which I appreciate. This haircut only cost me $30 so the price was awesome as well. Truly wish I lived in the area so I could go to the same guy all the time. read more

This is a deceptive business. Every other hair dresser I have gone to has washed, cut the hair, and then blow dried it after. This is all included in a "haircut" fee. Usually I pay more money like around $50-$60 for those haircuts. I tried this place because a haircut is listed at $40. I get the wash and haircut. She asked me if I wanted a blow-out and I say OK assuming hair drying is included in the cost like every other place I have gone to. I've never heard of a hair dresser letting you leave with a wet head. After blow drying my hair she tells me it's $40 for the cut and $50 for the blow dry. I say OK and pay because I did not want to argue with them about such a ridiculous blow dry charge. It is absolutely ridiculous to charge an extra $50 for a blow dry when you already get your hair cut there. Driving home I get more angry about the situation because $50 really is a lot to charge extra just for a blow dry. I call to ask why the blow dry is not included in the haircut. I talk to the manager who tells me 99% of hair dressers charge extra for a blow dry, which is not true because I have gone to many other places that do not charge an extra $50 for a blow dry. She also continued to cut my hair after the blow dry. The haircut itself is not a terrible haircut. What was terrible is getting hit in the head with the blow dryer and tools throughout my hair cut. I got hit in the head multiple times which also never happened at any other hairdresser I've been to. I'm assuming whoever I got is maybe new to hair dressing because I have not had this happen before. I told this to the manager who gets defensive and tells me I'm just trying to get a discount on the haircut because I did not tell him when I was there in person. Apparently he was watching her cut my hair and was denying anything I said. He did offer to have my haircut checked if I come back in, but I don't really feel like coming back after getting told I'm just trying to get a discount and having the manager tell me I'm wrong about my experience. That's just terrible customer service to get defensive at someone who is complaining about your service. The haircut is OK but he cannot fix her hitting me in the head with tools. I did not want to make a scene at the store, but now everyone will know my experience as a warning and I will not go back. They can keep the $90. read more

Good haircut, friendly staff, the prices are out of control. They charge $10-15+ for the slightest additions. "Beard Trim", which for me, was leaving the beards length, not using a razor to line it up but rather keep it natural, and just buzzing over the neck was $15, hot towel was a few bucks extra at the end as well, all said and done $48, plus my tip which I always tip barbers $10, so $58. Again, good haircut, friendly people, but can get exact service almost anywhere else for 50% less. read more

Terrible master! My husband grew a beard for a long time, was excited and happy and just wanted to shape his beard and make it more accurate. As a result, Master Artem simply trimmed his beard very short, although he was asked not to touch the length! My husband is terribly upset, because he has been growing a beard for so long.. Artem also made a terrible haircut, or rather did not make it at all! Just shaved off a little weight and everything else remained in the same form! I'm terribly disappointed! read more

Worst Haircut ever. It looked ok when I was there, because the stylist had soaked it with water and had it combed up.. Top is so uneven and did not get cut. does not blend with the rest of the haircut. Generally there is 3 days between a good and bad haircut. This one is much worse. This place is excellent! Clean, professional, friendly, and opened on Sundays. Our stylist, Carmen, was especially wonderful with my 5 year old son, keeping him entertained throughout the haircut. The prices are very reasonable. Our new go-to spot for sure. read more

I am new to New Jersey and the Manalapan/Freehold area (LOVE IT!!!!). Anyhoo, City Master Barbers and especially Irinia was recommended to me. I am of an "older" persuassion with the grey running rampant on my skull and just about gave up looking any better. What Irinia did gave me a second chance at Wow! She lightened my grey/reddish brown locks to a caramel golden to allow the grey to be less noticible when growing out and I haven't looked back since. The compliments I get for the color as well as the fantastic cut keep coming even when it's time for me to come back again. So, So highly recommend Irinia to anyone and everyone. read more

At City Master Barbers in Manalapan they do a phennomenal job. Highly recommend either Serge or Ulga. They are very nice and give you a good haircut every time you go. I been with them for the last three years and never had a complaint and I'm not Russian. The place is always packed at the other location so they must be doing something right. For many years I wore my hair kinda long. Today, I needed to get my hair cut due to a business deal I'm involved in, so I decided to go to City Masters Barber in Freehold on Rt #9. The Barber Shop was very nicely decorated with big screen TVs at every barber chair with a larger screen TV in the front area of the shop. The shop was spanking clean, the '3' barbers were really busy cutting 3 customer's hair. They knew what they were doing, and cut each individual's hair with Expert Skill, with meticulous attention to detail. When it came my turn to get my hair cut (my hair was fairly long) I described what I wanted and he delivered exactly the way I described it. He cut a lot of hair off because I needed it shorter, but he completed my hair cut in approximately 15 minutes, and it looks AWESOME! Being a senior citizen, he only charged me $8.00, for an Excellent cutting and Styling of my hair! I definitely will be going back for All my future haircuts, Barbers are very friendly and accommodating. I got the Best hair cut that I've ever received in years! The barber in the first chair off to the left when you walk in had a terrible attitude while cutting my sons hair. When dealing with a 4 year old, you have to expect they are going to move their heads. I was next to him the whole time and on top of me telling him to stop the guy cutting his hair was rolling his eyes, and at one point said are you going to stop now??!!!! You can see he doesn't like what he does, gross personality, and I'd rather pay $15 to get my kids hair cut than deal with a disgusting person. Came in and guy named Nate gave my kid a haircut. All I can say is wow. This man has deep rooted issues. He seemed annoyed that he had to cut my kids hair and that he was moving his head. I was there before that many times and had other girls do facial for me, they were very very professional. If I could give this place zero stars, I would, but Yelp doesn't allow it. I tried to give City Master Barbers a second chance, and it will definitely be the last time that I go there. I took my son to their new location at the Galleria shopping center in Manalapan, and my son received an absolutely horrible haircut. I wouldn't trust the woman that cut his hair to give my neighbor's dog a haircut. I don't understand why this place risks their reputation by employing such terrible barbers - from the time that I was waiting for my son to finish, it was obvious that some of the other barbers do good work, but apparently it's a roll of the dice. Full service salon/barber shop and very nice inside. Staff is all Russian from Brighton Beach in Brooklyn and commutes here from there daily. They offer a card where if you get 10 haircuts your 11th is free. Do not come here though unless you want your hair to be cut the opposite of what you describe. Been going to this barbershop ever since they opened. Even after moving to NYC, I still make the drive down. Armen and Serge are the top stylists there. Horrible service. Woman Laura is a butcher, and shouldnt even be allowed to cut a dogs hair. has no skill at all. She did exactly the opposite of what she was asked for. The worse part is that I gave them a second chance and this was the second time I allowed them to ruin my hair. She smelled of cigarette smoke, was coughing throughout the haircut while using buzzers and scissors around me. I was so disappointed and wanted to ensure a means to make others aware. There are many other haircutting places within the area that are a lot more skilled. English is a second language here it always seems like they are talking about you in Russian.
