I purchased a leather Melrose couch from Ethan Allen in Rochester, NY, for around $3,300, and added the $299 Guardsman Premier Gold Complete Service Plan, thinking it would provide peace of mind. Unfortunately, it turned into one of the most frustrating customer service experiences I've ever had. After submitting a warranty claim, I waited six months without a response. When Guardsman finally acted, they sent a technician from New Jersey (to upstate New York!) who looked at the couch but said she didn't have enough time to complete the repair. And then? Nothing. No follow-up. No resolution. Just silence. Years later, the owner of the Ethan Allen store accused me of being a "problem customer" and casually mentioned that Guardsman had denied the claim. That's hard to believe, considering they sent someone out to fix it, which wouldn't have happened if the claim had actually been denied upfront. I contacted Ethan Allen's corporate office and received a polite but ineffective response--no real accountability from either company. Bottom line: Guardsman appears to offer a comprehensive coverage plan, but in practice, they seem to look for any excuse or loophole to avoid fulfilling it. The customer service is slow, unresponsive, and ultimately unhelpful. The owner of the local Ethan Allen franchise finally replaced the cushion, but unfortunately, the dye lot was significantly different from the other cushions, rendering the couch unusable. If you're shopping at Ethan Allen--or anywhere else that offers Guardsman protection--I strongly recommend you think twice before spending extra on their coverage. It's not worth the hassle.

You can also check their online catalog in-store if you don't find anything you like on the floor. I had a great experience shopping in-store. I was left alone to sit on the pieces I wanted to try for as long as I liked, because I was shopping for comfort, and when I made my purchase, I also got delivery for a small additional charge, which included the guys bringing my furniture to my walkup. Delivery was the next weekend, and they called ahead so I was ready for them, and it was very quick! The furniture came plastic wrapped so it didn't get scratched or banged up or the pillow lost. We have it set up in the deep seat position, we skipped the deep seat pillows. The regular pillows work just fine. You need to tell them that you want the seats set up to be deep!! Before purchasing, we were unaware that there was more than one option to set up the seats. I do wish that we had been told this on any of the previous visits. I had been worried about whether this would work for my situation - they reassured me that they have free returns within 30 days and stand by their word. And it comes right to your door! Once we got our Sactional, I had to try all the different ways it could be put together. We tried a different setup in this narrow room every few days - it was like buying a whole set of furniture items! It was fun too. I had planned on changing color scheme of this room but the furniture tied it all together so nicely that I like it how it is right away and can save redecorating for another time. The staff don't really seem to want to be here, which seems to be the case at both locations. It's a dollar store, so you can't expect anything fancy. I get plastic ware, ziploc bags and garbage bags here mostly. If you're traveling, they also have soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc. It's nice to buy the dollar toothbrushes so you can throw them away on the way home. One strange thing I noticed is that the carts are really low here. I am not tall, and the cart was so low it was awkward for me to push with my purse on my arm.
