POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! This is my 2nd AND LAST time trying this salon. On my first visit the lady at the front was very rude, the way she spoke to customers, very nasty.. she also spoke this way on the phone to customers calling to schedule appointments...the entire time I was there she constantly yelled at the workers. I disregarded her behavior on my first visit (..we all have bad days). Well this seems to be the norm for her, I asked if she could schedule me for her first available appt. ..she yelled repeatedly: WHAT TIME YOU COME IN? Okay... absolutely NOT! I am new to this area so was looking for a new spa that I can eventually become a regular customer. I patronized a different location previously but prices wasn't something I was ok with long term for basic service. My daughter recommended this location despite the reviews. I arrived at 3pm for my 3pm appointment, I was asked to sign in. It was pretty busy I thought to myself on a Wednesday. There were plenty of customers waiting for service. I waited about 17 minutes before they came and got me. I was seated in the pedicure section and was able to soak my feet while waited for my pedicure technician. I didn't mind at all because it felt really good lol. About another 15 minutes came before he arrived. He was nice and professional I enjoyed the entire experience that I tipped him $10 for a basic pedicure. I was guided to dry my feet and waited for my nail technician, no complaints never had a no chip before wasn't sure what to expect (always had gel set). He was kind as well. I tipped him another $10. I ordered a basic pedicure (I take really good care of feet in between visits) and for the 1st time a no chip manicure. Prices at $57 works for me. I spend a total of 2 hours here and they are 9 minutes from my house so win win. I personally didn't experience any negative vibes and I can normally feel bad energy. I have no regrets. Again this is my 1st visit. I will update if my future visits are not as pleasant but I don't feel they would be. Got dip nails on 6/25/21. By 6/26 the nails started to crack. I was on vacation but returned home on 6/29 and immediately went to the shop. Was told I must be hitting all 10 of my nails on something for them to crack. They would only fix 2 and I'd need to pay for the rest. Dip nails are supposed to last at least 3-4 weeks before being filled in. I filled a dispute with my credit card company. They would not give me a refund or fix my nails. Never will I ever get service at this place. First off nobody speaks English to communicate what one wants. I asked for my no chip to be removed without using a file machine. I simply wanted the cotton with the acetone and the foil around my nails to bring up the polish I know this method would have taken longer but I was ok with it because it is a snowy day and a majority of the employees were doing nothing but hanging around. This method is also better for my nails. The gentleman proceeded to wrap my nails with the soaked acetone and foil. He only waited 10 minutes and sent a woman over who took a foil off one nail and brought out some tool to pry off the nail polish. I told her I did not want that because my nails are already brittle. She proceeded to speak her language and all the other employees chimed in. The only person who speaks English came over all rude and said it would take 2 hours for the polish to come off the way I wanted it and that he couldn't wait 2 hours for that. Needless to say there were all rude and I walked out. Avoid this place. Not professional at all. read more

I am extremely picky about my nails. So much so that I use to drive 45 minutes to go to Joliet mall to have them done. I decided to give City Nails a try one day (I just discovered that there are two City Nails's in Lansing, this one is in front of Ultra Foods in a strip mall next to SEARS optical). I am so glad that I decided to give CIty Nails a try. Not only is the shop clean, Amy is awesome!! She always gives me a great nail design on each ring finger and I get so many compliments about my nails !! The service is great, the prices are great and I am so happy that I found a much closer nail salon near my house. Amy is so good that I would be willing to drive 45 minutes to see her. Finding a great nail place is just as hard as finding a great hair salon. When you find someone you really like, you want to stick with them !! I highly recommend CIty Nails. I went to this nail salon on Saturday, my first impression walking in was good, it is clean and everyone seemed to be pleasant. The wait wasn't very long being that it was hot out and was a little crowded. I went there for a pedicure and ombré full set gel nails. I got the pedicure first, was seated in the chair and waited for a nail tech to come over and service me, I waited so long that the water got cold. The nail tech did a nice job on my pedicure when she finally arrived and finished. When I was done I was seated to get my nails done. The nail tech was nice, I showed her a pic of how I wanted my nails done. She did a good job on the ombré. After I left and made it home I inspected my nails a little more. The nail on my index finger was separating from my real nail and also as I looked on the sides of my nails you can see my real nails where she failed to put the powder on it. I went back today to see if they could fill in where the missing gel is, I showed the tech my receipt from Saturday, which I paid $120.00, another lady came over telling me that my nails are supposed to be that way. I told her I've had my nails done before and no one has ever left my real nails showing so much. She began to tell me that I'm picky and I shouldn't be looking at tiny details, (I'm sorry....what?!) I told her I look at details because I know what I'm Happy with and I spent a lot of money, she told me not to say anything about money! That's when I got upset because I told her she can't tell me not to say anything about money because when I spend it on a service I want it done right. The only thing she did was file my nails, I did not get one apology. I told her to just leave them alone and I won't be coming back there. The only thing I wanted her to do was fill in the missing gel. I feel like if they argue with you and make it seem as if you're stupid I don't need to go back to them. My nails are too thick as well, every time I pointed a problem out they blamed it on the ombré, that should not matter whether I got ombré or regular nail polish. Well I quickly changed my mind when I saw that they do not use basin covers in between customer usage, especially during this pandemic!! I am not pleased with the turnout. The top coat doesn't even cover my whole nail. I asked for a coffin shape and didn't get that. Only one nail is shaped as it should be. I have been a customer for over 5 years. Since the old management and staff left (Kenny, Tina, Hue, Eva, Henry...) the customer service is awful under the new management. Specifically, the Manager Michael he is very rude and obnoxious. He talks to and treats customers like garbage. When the customer enters, Michael's greeting is "May I help you", without even looking up to acknowledge the customer, mean tone and, scowling face, and no smile. Every time, I've made an appointment I had to wait at least 30 minutes for service with no apology or a status of how long the wait. I had an appt on December 29, 2022 at 1pm. I arrived at 1:05 and I informed Michael I had an appt. His respond was to yell "you're late!". I waited 15 minutes not knowing whether I was going to be serviced, he didn't offer any information. So I asked what was I waiting on and Michael said because I was 5 minutes late I had to wait an hour for service. I responded, that I was only 5 minutes late and expected the same grace that I gave them when I arrived before time and had to wait on the technician for over 30 minutes. He ignored my complaint, and started talking in his native language to his co-workers. I figured they were talking about me, which is so disrespectful. I left, wasn't going to wait an hour and allow such disrespect. The other problems is they always speak in their native language and their customers speak English. So many problems with this place...the bathroom do not have toilet tissue, the floors are dirty. They don't sterile their equipment. These people DO NOT appreciate your business. Please take your hard earned dollars and spend it where you will get great service and your business is appreciated. This place has become a dump. read more

This was my go to salon when I lived in the area and Kim was the owner. NOT ANYMORE! I came in for a no chip mani and regular pedi over the weekend when it was 91 degrees. Let's start with there was no ac. The one fan that was blowing was directed to the ceiling. I shaved my legs that morning and didn't want the jets on during my pedicure. I was given plenty attitude after requesting no jets multiple times with the owner. I should've left but once I put my feet in the water I figured it'd get better. Nope! The owner somehow made the water lukewarm...I didn't even bother asking him to change it because I was completely turned off by his bad attitude. After my feet soaked for 20 minutes another tech came over and turned on the jets. Once we got the water temp right he pulled out his utensils and got started in my pedicure. This guys first mistake was he didn't bother to wipe all of the semi clear polish off my feet. Next while clipping one nail he pinched the skin on a neighboring toe. From here on out I could not relax. Instead of him adjusting his chair I had to practically straighten my foot during the polish process. I should've left at this point but I needed the service and didn't have time to go anywhere else. When you have a no chip manicure there is no need to use the electric file...foil with acetone on cotton swab will soak the polish off. Not here. Soaking no chip manicure off is soaking your hands in a bowl of acetone with a face cloth to shield you from the fumes. After maybe 20 minutes of soaking in the smell of acetone the tech came over and started my manicure. Everything was done with such a heavy hand...so much so that he filed my cuticles with the nail buffer until they started bleeding. Other things to note is they use cheese graters to shave your feet, they don't sterilize their tools, and they partially clean the pedicure sinks. The overall look of my nails are ok but the service was horrible. I didn't feel comfortable because the other workers spoke their native language and kept looking at me during my stay....as if THEY were complaining about ME. It became clear to me that they are under new management and cleanliness or good customer service is not a priority. Please know that I gave a star in order to add the review for others. Just left City Nails in Lansing, IL and although I have been here several times, this time will be my last. I came to this nail salon for a powder dip manicure as I always do, and on every occasion I am serviced by a different technician, and while I am not bothered by this, it is my opinion that every technician should be skilled in all areas of nail care and if they are not customers should only be assigned to techs according to their specialty. Today's visit was awful. The technician made several mistakes on my nails and carelessly corrected them. I was there for 2 hours for a manicure that normally takes 45min. Being pressed for time, I asked the tech if my nails could be dried with the UV light, as they've done before, and the tech began to attempt to pursuance me that they don't use the UV light with the dip powder, where I explained that other techs have done it with no problems. She then calls the manager Tina over to try to persuade me that "I" was incorrect in my memory of any of their techs using the UV light on a powder manicure. Tina was incredibly rude and then asked me not to yell at her, when I never raised my voice. Some of the techs at this salon do a good job but I will not be returning because of the way I was treated in simply asking for a quicker way to dry my nails, especially considering that I am paying for this service. read more

Her new place is awesome, and they always do a good job, we have never had a problem. Very sanitary and a lot of color and design options. Not to mention, my manis and pedis always last! Sometimes there is a wait, and depending on your nail tech it does take some time, but the atmosphere is relaxing and the place is clean. I like the place. It can take a awhile to get seated but it's clean and the manager tries to get u seated asap. The reason I'm giving it a low score was because I went to get my nails fixed because they didn't glue the acrylic securely to the nail on both you thumbs. It cost $8 for him to redo it which he did it very quickly. And when I got home I noticed that one of my thumbs still didn't have the acrylic securely glued. They look great but I work with my hands and I hate when stuff gets stuck between you real nail and the acrylic. read more

I was in desperate need of a fill-in before going out for sweetest day so I looked in the yellow pages to find nail salons on Torrence. I decided to hop on I-80 and figured whichever one of the two I found in the yellowpages is the one I'd go to. Well I ended up at City Nails and was a little hesitant because I remember going there years ago and not being satisfied but decided to go in. It was like 6:15/6:30 at night and I waited maybe 5 minutes if that before they took me. I definitely put the poor woman(Ava?) to work because I need a fill-in so bad but she did a pretty good job on the fill. Just by looking around the salon(both at other customers and their sample pieces) they really don't do too much of the hand painted designs but I decided to try it anyways. I guess I'm just use to places that do designs often but I had to tell her exactly what I wanted(different lines on each nail, don't paint my whole nail, I want these colors for my designs, and this color for glitter) and that was some what of a pain. I'm not artistic so I like when I go to nail salons just trusting them to choose the colors and if I really hate that color I let them know. So she did my designs and it took her longer than most places but they did turn out better than what I thought but they still weren't "to die for". And it seemed to take awhile(I didn't walk out until almost 8 for just a fill-in and polish change on my toes). If you're not one who does the designs like me then check this place out, they do a good job with the actual fill and have plenty of colors to choose from. And on top of that the prices are decent. I paid $33 for a fill-in($14), polish change on my toes($10), and designs($9). UPDATE: Normally when I get a polish change on my toes it'll last for awhile(at least a month) but this time it didn't even last 2 weeks before it started chipping. read more

I went to City Nails at 17649 Torrence Ave. Lansing, IL 60438 (708) 418-3838 January 26, 2018 at 2:30pm. When walking in I was addresses by Tina. Regretfully stated later she was a manager. I was asked to be seated at table 10. I told Tina I had limited time so I was just going to get a fill in with French tip. Tina stated I needed to remove all the old overlay off of all my nails. I told her I would like to do it on my next visit I felt I had no time. Tina persisted. I was removed and asked to sit at now table 2 where Tina sat across from me doing another customer nails. Now I had to explain to attendant 2 what I wanted done. Now I am annoyed because the attendant is reinforcing Tina's conversation. Tina started badgering me in front of her customer when I tried to defend myself she told me to shut up and accused me of yelling at her when she was attacking me. Then started speaking in her language to other attendants regarding me. My request was ignored to do a new overlay set later. I was told to Shut Up and serviced by whatever this business wanted for me. Tina is rude, aggressive, poor listening skills. And unprofessional along tactless as a manager.
