We switched to City Paws a few years ago and am so so so glad we did! They truly care and are always so kind. We started going there when our elderly cat was diagnosed with CKD. We were frequent flyers for a while and they always were so sweet to him. We unfortunately had to help him and our dog across the rainbow bridge all within a month, and their kindness will never be forgotten. I can't say enough good things about this practice and Dr.Mattes. My dog, Zoro, got heartworm and went through treatments earlier this year. Dr.Mattes was excellent at explaining the treatment protocol and was very transparent about pricing. He's doing great now and I am so thankful for all the time and patience the staff has to work with my guy. City Paws is by far the best veterinary office I have ever been to. Not only are their services 10/10, affordable, and quick. It's the customer service and bedside manner that has REALLY been incredible. I have worked with Dr. Nguy throughout my year with CP but they also squeezed me in last minute with other vets who were also wonderful. It doesn't matter who is working front desk or is the vet tech, they are sweet, compassionate, and actually excited to see your animals. Going to the vet is soo stressful and scary, it really feels like a traumatic experience having to put your baby's life into another person's hands but I wholeheartedly trust them. Recently, my baby came in after being hospitalized at the ER vet over a weekend and I wasn't sure he would make it. I brought him in and they took care of him, observed him, adjusted his meds and less than a week later he is almost back to normal! They remember all my babies names and get genuinely excited when they come in and see them. The doctors don't rush you through talking about what is going on or make you feel stupid for asking questions. They do follow-up emails and calls that is so reassuring and helpful. I cannot express enough how good they have been and how much I appreciate being a client with them. I cannot recommend them enough! read more

I have serious concerns about price gouging at City Paws. Our dog is on several lifelong medications, some of which are quite expensive, so we fill prescriptions through an online pharmacy to save on costs. City Paws has repeatedly claimed they never received refill requests from the pharmacy--usually right around the time they want us to come in and spend more money. I'll get a call saying our dog needs a visit, so we schedule one. At the appointment, they do no testing--just a quick visual check, ask us why we came in... even though they told us we had to come in--and still charge $60+ for the office visit. I could live with that if it weren't for what happened next: just two days later, we received another message saying he was due for annual vaccinations. Why wasn't that addressed at the visit we had just come in and paid for at their request? This kind of nickel-and-diming creates a frustrating customer experience--especially for a dog with vet anxiety. Unfortunately, after several experiences like this, it's a hard pass for us. Unsurprisingly the administrative side of this vet has always been frustrating. Calling their number drops you into an automated voice system, and 9.5 times out of 10, no one picks up. Showing up for your scheduled appointment only to find the door locked, with the front desk and staff staring at you through the glass without moving to help to let you in--that was another recurring lowlight I won't miss. We honestly stayed because of how wonderful we found Dr. Nguy -- very knowledgable and so sweet with our dog -- with her gone I'm not going to put up with the subpar experience anymore -- we're moving to a new vet. read more

I cannot speak highly enough about the team at City Paws. I took my cat in for a check of his ears for a possible infection. Dr. Nguy and Brandi were so patient and kind to my little guy. He was very scared. I did not feel like we were being rushed through. Brandi and Dr. Nguy listened very carefully to my concerns and addressed each of them. I feel so comfortable bringing him to City Paws. I also appreciate the rooms specifically for cats to help them feel more comfortable. read more

Excellent first visit. Staff, extremely personable & pleasant. Cegi & Dr. Mattes made mywelf and baby Nola feel very comfortable. At 11 weeks Nola was due for a good once over and vaccinations which were all completed efficiently...most of all with great care & concern. Dr. Mattes was knowledgeable; explaining processes well along the way. Ceji created a placard detailing my Pug puppy's 1st visit for a super cute photo op. I appreciated the memory-creator. The clinic is clean, well organized, personally I found the open space very inviting and a lot less claustrophobic. Location is convenient on the Botanical Heights neighborhood just across the street from Don Brown and in the same plaza as Pet Connection. Parking is plentiful. Indoor seating, cat coming towels, treats and resources are available. A reminder was sent for appointment reminder prior to visit as well as discharge summary emailed after her visit. I became a patient when my dog had a paw injury during the holidays and a Friday no less. They were booked but had me drop her off so they could work her in because I was concerned about infection over the weekend. They took great care of her (and me) the first time and ever since. I appreciate their willingness to work in "sick" appointments and their overall responsiveness. I have much less anxiety knowing they will take care of her anytime! read more

My dog is extremely anxious and the staff here are always so good with her. They have pheromones in exam rooms that help her stay calm which is so helpful. Dr. Mattes is great at explaining everything and is so thorough. During COVID they have you drop your pet off and answer questions over the phone but I still feel like I'm a part of the visit. When my dog wasn't feeling well they were really accommodating with my schedule and helped me get her seen quickly! read more

City Paws was so amazing to us over the two-three years we brought out dog Bailey to them. She was a big Great Dane who had some joint issues, and they were amazing helping us mitigate her pain day to day. Then when she got sick and it was becoming clear we had to let her go, Dr. Mattes, Dr. McCartney, and Dr. DeWilde were so kind and nurturing and understanding for us. We couldn't have asked for a more loving and peaceful way to say good bye. I cannot recommend City Paws enough to everyone in St. Louis. They're absolutely incredible. read more

We haven't even taken our dog here yet, and I already know it's wonderful. We adopted a beautiful 7yo terrier mutt a little over a month ago, and she started having some belabored irregular breathing. My husband and I were so worried about her but didn't have a vet for her yet. We called City Paws because of their wonderful reviews. Lisa answered the phone and calmly and compassionately listened to me mutter on about how I had no idea what to do. City Paws was booking out three weeks - Lisa recommended our dog get seen earlier than that and gave me the number to an emergency care facility. I am so grateful for her patience and expertise. Dr. Mattes is THE BEST. She had seen my kitties at another office and that appointment with her stayed with me. Her way of handling my kitties was great, and she was the first vet ever (in 8 yrs) to mention one of my cats had a mild entropion. Long story short, I didn't hesitate to look for her when my previous vet office wasn't meeting my needs, and I'm extremely glad I was able to find her, and at her own clinic. I'm much more at ease now that I know my kitties will have the best care with Dr. Mattes and her team. I highly recommend her! read more

What a fantastic veterinary clinic! My dog, The Fizz, generally starts having a panic attack and begins shaking the minute she realizes she is seeing a vet but was so at ease at City Paws. Dr. Mattes and the entire staff were incredible and the facility was bright and so inviting, which honestly isn't something you get at a lot of clinics. City Paws was very affordable compared to most places I've been to, and the online appt scheduling is a breeze and so convenient. City Paws is the kind of place I almost want to keep to myself because it was so easy getting in, but this place is so fantastic that I have to recommend them. read more

I can't say enough good things about the staff here. The entire staff is so personable and knowledgeable. They call me the day after every appt to check up on my puppy. After my dog's spay I was just slightly concerned about how the stitches were healing. I sent them a non-urgent email with a photo of the incision and received a response within 2 HOURS on a Saturday night from Dr. Mattes. I am so impressed with their kindness and professionalism and love that they are just so clear and helpful with COVID procedures. The staff is always polite and helpful even when you wife and I have are puppy parent freak outs over minor things. Our German shepherd Dog (GSD) is always treated nicely I would recommend this vet to anyone.
