I ordered a vanilla latte and it was basically just milk. The color was literally an off white. Im not even sure if they even poured a table spoon of espresso in it. My friend also got the chai latte which was just cinnamon flavored milk, the worst we both ever had. For charging $6 for a 12 oz i thought it would be at least an average experience. I would go back to just buy a plain cup of coffee but dont waste your time on the lattes. read more

THE WORST. Understaffed, understocked, undertrained. There was a line, which we were happy to wait on, as we started chatting with the people near us and weren't in a rush. FYI, everybody has to wait in front of the door that is the entrance to the market, and City Roast makes zero effort toward crowd control or logistical flow. We ordered two iced max drinks and waited patiently, tipping well in advance. They clearly could not handle a rush, and their logistical operation made zero sense. They barked out our order, but when we came to the counter to get it, we were briskly told it wasn't ready. So why call it out???? And then the iced drinks were served in hot containers, so you're not paying the same price per volume, and it wasn't the right vessel. Also, the drink just wasn't good--their coffee was only a smudge above airplane/motel levels. We wish we hadn't tipped so generously at the start, and really would recommend NOT going here. They seem to have the coffee monopoly at the market, which explains a lot. read more

Why doesn't this place have their own location? Why? I would live there! The coffee is lovely - I had the mocha as I wondered through West Side Market (I go there infrequently but even so you'd think I'd stop getting lost while trying to find particular stalls...but I had a coffee in hand so I can't complain). It was sweet but not too sweet, no additional sugar necessary! Their selection of coffee and tea is intense. They have the favorites and the basics and then a bunch of things you could try. Come here every day for a month and you still probably wouldn't go through their entire selection. Overall the coffee and the tea (have had a few before) is completely lovely. The people behind the bar are beyond pleasant. The aesthetic of the stall is awesome which makes me even more curious about what a coffee shop would look like. Visited on Friday and was pleasantly surprised that I was able to walk and order without waiting in the normal line that blocks traffic at the busy entrance/exit. I normally get their coffee, which is reasonably good. Recently, I've been drinking a lot of tea, so I thought I'd try an order of sencha today. City Roast slapped a crappy little tea bag and some boiling water in a cup and that was that. The water was so hot that 30 minutes later, I still couldn't drink the tea, trying to remove the tea bag resulted in me scalding my fingers (after sitting for 30+ minutes) and the boiling water left none of the mellow flavor that normally attracts me to sencha, just a strong astringent taste and certainly nothing special about it. My husband and I both enjoy coffee in our own ways. When checking out a new coffee shop, he'll order a pour over coffee and drink it black. I typically drink cold brew at home, but my coffee shop test is ordering whatever special latte of the day is on their menu. Most coffee shops don't pass our tests -- usually at least one of us walks away disappointed. Well, I ordered the specialty latte (I wish I could remember what it was, maybe a s'mores latte?) and was still reeling over how delicious it was when I hear him say, "Could I buy one of your mugs? I love me some City Roast Coffee. Located in the corner of the market next to Crepes De Luxe, City Roast is worth any stop while in the West Side Market. While many have pointed out that they are located next to the ultra busy crepe stand, don't let that long line scare you. Just awkwardly swerve your way through the crowd and you'll soon be to the promised land of coffee. It can feel a little overwhelming at first, but just do it one time and you'll be fine moving forward. My first stop when I go to the West Side Market is always City Roast Coffee and Tea. Generally, I try to hit the Market early so I can avoid the masses of tourists and "Saturday" shoppers so I'm in dire need of caffeine in my system. City Roast is next to La Crêperie stand in the front of the main building. If you've ever been to either of these stands, you know the line gets confusing. Crêps to the left coffee to the right (or if you're there in reality...a big jumbled mess.). Let me give you the secret to coffee line success...remember these words, "Coffee or Crêps?" Seriously, most people are in line for Crêps and you'll save yourself eons of time if you just ask. I've only had one occasion where some yahoo got pissy with me when I asked. They were "experienced" West Side Marketers, I could tell, and ultimately were just frustrated when the realized they were standing in the wrong line, all of which could have been alleviated with these 3 words, "Coffee or Crêps?" Back to the coffee The coffee is bon (good)! I usually purchase a lb. of whole bean Gothic. It is dark and rich coffee which I've been told is a mixture of two of their other blends of coffee. I can't recall which, but the people behind the counter will tell you. When Gothic is unavailable, and it often is because it is just that good, I get the Northwest blend. While not my favorite, it comes a close second. City Roast offers seasonal options as well for those of you who love your flavoured coffee. Pumpkin does make an appearance during the right time of year. City Roast is also a boon for those who are tea drinkers. The wall behind the glass counter is wallpapered with tins of tea. You can purchase tea by the cup or in larger quantities. City Roast also makes a mean cup of coffee. I enjoy a traditional macchiato and I appreciate that at City Roast I don't have to explain how to prepare my beverage. Believe me when I say the baristas at City Roast will be able to easily and competently prepare your drink. For you who need your java fix, go to City Roast and have them hook you up! read more

This is a coffee stand, first on the right as you enter the market from W25th. This was great local coffee made with good, basic technique and attention to correct detail. They also sell beans in either 1-pound or half-pound bags. When a barista makes latte with art on it, it might not necessarily reflect the quality of the beans or the brew, but it somehow shows that they care about what they do! That said, the beans are all freshly ground and quality of the espresso is excellent. Now strong coffee does not mean bitter or burned coffee, like Starbucks is frequently guilty of. They do it right over here. The latte (with heart art) that I had was delicious. On a trip to WSM, I'd probably stop here first, then leisurely stroll the market with that coffee or espresso drink in hand to set the pace of your beautiful day. read more

The Coffee was actually very good here but unfortunately the customer service was beyond bad. Not a hello or any type of customer service greeting upon arrival ...servers seemed disgruntled. I got the iced white mocha, but it's extremely watery with no ice or anything. I really just wasn't a fan. The drink turned warm pretty quick since it had no ice, which was kind of disappointing. My husband and I were having a very lovely time at the Westside Market yesterday, buying some Ohio City Pasta, then over to eat some spanakopita, we bought lots of Campbells popcorn -- we try to support and love on local businesses. However this location was very rude to use yesterday grabbing drinks, unnecessarily rushed us (it was a Saturday but no customers waiting, not closing), and then without even asking put the leftover change from the cash we gave her in their tip jar. Pretty good coffee to get you going through a venture through West Side Market. I brought my parents to the ever so famous farmers market, on their trip to Cleveland this weekend. My dad wandered around the aisles of meat and veggies, getting more and more tired as he went...and proceeded to ask a deli person if there was any coffee around. Off in the corner was a small coffee stand. In my head, I was like, "huh? coffee....? here?" and was pleasantly surprised by 1.) how cheap it was (75 cents for an 8 oz?!!) and 2.) how good it was. I got the hazelnut blend..my dad the Brazilian. I need to try more of this place, but it was good coffee! Didn't have that crappy after diner taste...but it was surprisingly good. Hey, you know that crazy long line for the crêpes? Don't be scurred. It's not for the coffee. Just say, "excuse me," navigate your way to the other, much smaller line and grab yourself a cup 'o joe. Trust--if you're at the WSM on a Saturday, you'll need this pick-me-up. Squeezing yourself through the crowds is hard enough without neglecting your basic, caffeinated needs to boot. Like other Yelpers have mentioned, their coffee is sourced locally and very yummy. Although I can't say it's anything mind-blowing. This could be because I only ever order a regular ol' small cup of coffee. The minimum cc charge is not cool (and technically illegal for any biz to impose), but if you're shopping at the WSM, chances are you're carrying cash--and hell, a regular coffee isn't going to break the bank anyways. And the milk and sugar area is always a little rough, because there's only really room for one person. And if you take longer than .2 seconds to get your coffee the way you like it, the person behind you will huff 'n puff until you move. Next time I'll give one of their flavored coffees a go, but until then, I'd recommend for a market pick me up. read more

Needed a warmup on a winter visit to the West Side Market and grabbed a breve (half and half instead of regular milk) latte from City Roast Coffee. What a glorious cup of joe! I told my sister it's truly the best cup of coffee I've ever tasted in my life. Rich, smooth, complex flavors. So good! They have an incredible loose leaf tea selection, and because we're traveling​, I snagged a box of drawstring tea filters so we could enjoy it right away. So to say I'm a coffee fanatic is an understatement, as I grew up in a family of coffee growers/roasters and have been literally drinking it since I could walk BUT on my recent trip to Cleveland & the West Side Market, I ordered a double caffe mocha & was completely BLOWN AWAY by the deliciousness of these roasts. I loved that they offered numerous roasts from numerous countries to buy whole bean or ground to take home, all at the same price. My biggest mistake was not buying enough to bring home! Though I did not have time to browse/purchase more, they had a huge selection of teas & other treats to offer. Cute little coffee and tea outpost in the market. They offer a variety of specials (as well as a large array of coffee and tea offerings). I tried a honey nut chai latte, which was interesting but a bit odd. My sister got a white chocolate mocha that she quite liked. Apparently the sweeter drinks can get VERY sweet, which is fine by me. I could see this getting up to a five upon repeated visits as I figured out exactly what I liked here. It's tucked away INSIDE the west side market so the hours of operation vary, but it's truly some good coffee! They have craft roasts, fair trade and leaf teas.
