I walked to the West side market to find that I was a tad bit early. To pass time I walked over to Edda's for coffee and a bite to eat. The cafe is very spacious with plenty of space to sit. It was early so service was pretty quick. If you order food to eat inside, you take a number and they bring it to you. This was my first time in so I decided to try a regular coffee and the breakfast sandwich. I found the coffee to be tasty, taking a cup to go. The highlight is my visit was the breakfast sandwich. Bright and spacious coffee shop in a corner space in Ohio City. The other few times I've been in to grab a coffee it's been packed, and it makes sense why. Lots of sturdy, good size tables plus bar and lounge seating with abundant outlets. If you can get a spot, it's a great place to camp out and work for an hour. At 8:30 on a cold Wednesday in January it was the quietest I've ever seen it, with just a few people sitting and others dropping in to pick up to go orders. My husband and I ordered a black coffee, a cortado and a breakfast burrito to split. Points for serving the drinks in real cups for dine-in orders. The burrito is pricey - $16 - but is made to be split between two people. We tried to imagine finishing the whole thing on our own and couldn't, even as the ambitious eaters we are. It comes with a choice of chorizo, bacon or mushrooms and two side sauces, an aioli and a salsa verde. It was greasy and one of the messier things I've eaten in the morning but delicious. I will return to try the breakfast sandwich and the lox panini. I appreciate that they also have a limited bar - love a place you can transition from work day to working happy hour on a Friday afternoon. Another experience worth mentioning: I came in here solo on a busy afternoon once and ordered an iced chai. As I sat down, the woman who made it came out and said "I didn't make the chai concentrate (or whatever it's called) today and it does not look good to me. Well.. super cute coffee spot. I was trying to open the door from the outside and couldn't get in. I thought I was crazy until 2 other ladies tried as well with no success. After looking into the window and knocking someone finally left and we were able to access. I told the counter worker and she went to try while another worker simply laughed and stated the door wasn't locked we were just laughing hysterically as yall couldn't get in. I was so confused as to why they wouldn't just come open the door as to standing there laughing while we struggled to patronize their business. Don't miss Edda After Dark Events! Edda is an all-day coffee shop with a metropolitan feel. You can find it across the street from the West Side. It's inside a mirrored building (Intro Luxury Apartment Complex) that stands out in the skyline of historical buildings in Ohio City. I visited Edda numerous times over the years. My latest order: - Cold Brew (16 oz) - An okay cup of coffee but felt too diluted. - Savory muffin - Muffin perfection! It's like an elevated version of Red Lobster biscuit but much better. They can also warm it up! It was cheesy and delicious. - Rose Petal Matcha Latte - I was charged for a seasonal drink Rose Petal Matcha Latte ($6.50 + $0.20 for ice + $1 for rose petals). I couldn't wait to see it! My order was just regular matcha. It wasn't the best I've had in the city. It wasn't too concentrated, was a little bland. When I asked about it being rose, I was told that this drink special doesn't exist anymore (despite it being displayed on all monitors in the cafe). In other words, I paid $1 for roses that weren't even available at the cafe. Seating/Design: The interior is a modern, industrial, and minimalist style that most certainly must have been dreamed up by a designer. There are accents of concrete, light wood, muted colors, luxe lighting fixtures, and soft back lights. This coffee shop offers something for every daily vibe - solo, socialization, or to go. If you're flying solo, sit by the windows to get unmatched views of the market and West 25th. If you're in a social mood, bring your friends to lounge on comfy couches. It's also a great place to work "from home," a lot of my friends do. Seating is available at tables, on couches, and small coffee bar. Wherever you sit, mostly you have ample room to have your own space and privacy despite the coffee shop being usually busy. Coffee/Food: Edda sources coffee beans globally and roasts them locally. They specialize in bright and light-roasted coffees. The coffee won't be your most memorable cup of coffee but pretty good. They also sell plenty of coffee beans. They even have Intro Coffee Beans! They have basic coffee (like pour over), fancy lattes and seasonal drinks. There is a pretty extensive food menu available considering it's a coffee shop. Menu items include breakfast, salads, and handhelds (menu photos attached to this review). Pricing: Pricing is average but they will charge your extra charges for seasonal drinks or iced beverages (like $.20 extra for ice). Ways to save include their coffee program (flyer attached) or coffee rewards (tracked through Toast). Service: Checkout moves fast even when there is a line. Service is pleasant but transactional. It's hard to ask any follow-up questions from baristas or checkout staff. Events: Edda recently started hosting events like after hours socials, speed dating, and others. Watch their social media for announcements. Tickets are usually available via Eventbrite. I'll come back when I'm in Ohio City shopping at the West Side Market. Stopped in for a quick coffee after a stroll through West Side Market. It is huge inside and so bright with the windows...definitely looks like a nice place to hang out! I took my coffee (and one for my husband) to go today, but would definitely go back and stay longer. The barista was friendly and explained the seasonal specials to me when I asked. I ended up going with the banana coconut cold brew (half sweet) for me and an iced mocha. This is a charming downtown coffee café that immediately caught my eye with its inviting decor. I'm a sucker for live plants paired with industrial vibes, and this place nailed it! While the furniture could use a bit of a cleaning, overall, it's a lovely spot, perfect for remote work. Went to this cafe to study for a bit! We ordered an iced matcha latte and got their coconut cookie. The iced matcha was a bit sad... the flavor was not there and it tasted more like vanilla milk? There was no moment where I could taste the matcha. We ended up getting it another time as well, and the result was the same. You can see from the picture that the matcha powder was not blended the best, and that it is a very light color. The cookie was great though! It looks like fried chicken in the photo, but the taste/texture was wonderful!! I'd probably only get the cookie next time I go. I will not be getting matcha here again. I first visited in early April 2023 and then again in May 2023 and I've been back many other times again. I love coming here because of all the natural light that steeps through the windows. FOOD/DRINKS -- Since I don't like or drink coffee, I ordered a cold (iced) matcha drink when I first visited in April 2023. It was just right but it needed a little more sweetener which I may not have asked for. I definitely prefer a sweeter matcha such as a strawberry matcha. I can't remember if the matcha was made with Oat milk or Almond milk but my point is that if you don't like dairy milk then you will have other non-dairy options to choose from. As for food, when I visited in November 2023, I ordered their turkey sandwich for lunch and I got it without cheese and onions plus I added the garlic aioli spread on the side. The turkey sandwich was under $9 and it came with a small side of greens (I think Arugula and spinach mix). NOISE/TEMPERATURE -- If you want to get serious work done here then Edda Coffee may not be a great choice unless you come early or sit in one of the booths with noise canceling headphones on. It tends to get very noisy here during peak morning, afternoon, and evening hours. I suggest arriving either between 7am to 8:30am, 2:30pm to 4pm, or after 6pm but I believe they close at 6pm or 7pm everyday. It also gets cold inside because anytime I've come, the air conditioner is always on so bring a sweater or jacket with you. Edda Coffee is a VERY popular spot and although it's quite big inside, you may not find a spot to sit so I suggest arriving as early as you can. For example, if you arrive at noon or 1pm on a weekend, you may not find a chair to sit on but again, it all depends so you should still come. My friend and I stopped in here for brunch on a recent Sunday morning during a one-night visit to Cleveland. We had stayed up late after a comedy show the night before and were seeking some much-needed sustenance before our drive back to Michigan. I hate to do it, but had to take a star away for lack of available seating, even though the food and service were on point. There were about 8 different 4-top tables that were taken up by one single person on their laptop (and you could tell these people were clearly staying for a few hours)... All those tables could have seated 24 more customers! That was a turn-off and I thought we'd have to stand somewhere to eat our sandwiches. Luckily, I noticed one of the laptoppers getting ready to leave, so I snagged her table. Our meals were great, the woman who took our orders was super friendly, and we didn't have to wait long for our food to be ready. I got the Ham & Brie Sandwich, which was simple, but perfectly balanced with the combination of savory ham, creamy brie, and sweet fig jam. My friend ordered the Edda Breakfast Sandwich and she cleared her plate, declaring it was delightful! Heard about this place from a hardcore coffee conniseour. Stepping in felt like a trendy NYC coffee bar, super clean, minimalist decor and buzzing with business. Pretty cool to have a choice of either coffee or booze to imbibe, making this place a great meet up spot with seats at the bar, tables or on a comfy couch. I'm a huge fan of Duck Rabbit coffee, so was excited to see how the drip coffee would fare against it, unfortunately this round goes to Duck Rabbit although it is a close second. I thought the brew was smooth but had a slight bitter taste. I also got a matcha latte, asked for soy (didn't have) so I got oat milk. Not sweet at all and definitely a good amount of Matcha. We also got a ham and Brie sandwich for research purposes and this was an excellent find! I can't bring myself to leave a glowing review of Edda. It's part of a newer development in Ohio City so the structure of the coffee shop, especially the walls that open all the way up in summer time, is lovely. The aesthetic is modern and minimal, but strikes me as superficial for some reason. The drinks I have tried have been okay, but not memorable. And, as of June 2023 (when I last visited), the upholstery needs a good deep clean. Many people seem to enjoy it as it is often crowded likely due to the fact that it is the largest coffee shop for a few blocks and there is an apartment building right above it. Seating is at a premium, there's an alcove that has 3 booths which is in high demand, then small tables along the perimeter and a few comfy couch and chair setups. My drip coffee was fine, served in a glass retro cup. The breakfast scramble, with bacon, and a cold dab of avocado puree, was ok. It seems like a great spot to get some work done outside of the house given their free Wi-Fi, variety of seating options (bar, table, patio), and of course a full drink and food menu (so you can fuel your energy and brain of course). I came here on a Friday afternoon and it was bustling with people, but not in a loud distracting way. Many of the patrons seemed to be studying, co-working, or having small conversation. As this is my first visit, I've only had the opportunity to try the Iced Maple Vanilla Latte w/ Oat Milk, but I really enjoyed it! What I ordered: a 16 oz iced matcha with vanilla flavor. The matcha is not sweet by itself. I didn't love that vanilla flavoring was an additional $1. Know that if you want simple syrup added, you'll be paying $1 for that. I've not seen a coffee shop charge $1 for any sort of flavor, and definitely not for simple syrup. Those of us who are living our best sweet lives will have to pay extra. Ultimately, the matcha was okay. Not the worst. Not the best. Would I order it again at Edda? Nope. 6/10. I absolutely love a spacious, brightly lit, coffee shop with lush green plants, plenty of tables, and electrical outlets. Edda has numerous setups. Want a sofa? Check. Want a cubby hole where people can't see you? You got it. Want a table where you can sit with a 2-3 folks? Lots and lots. If you're not bothered by people walking behind you, there are lots of stools where folks can work at the bar or at side tables. 10/10. I also love that they stay open until 6 pm. As someone who tends to do my coffee shop activities in the afternoons, it's nice to know that I can get a good chunk of time. Background music is all right - an interesting mix of soulful, light pop, and indie tunes that I was easily able to block out when I wanted to do so. Other customers were not loud at all - this space seems to attract folks who have Stuff To Do, so if you need vicarious inspiration to get work done, this might be a good spot. Here's what might keep you away, and there are definitely things that I will consider next time: 1) If you want to pay more than $6 for your drink before tipping, you're going to do that here. My drink was over $7, which is the most I've ever paid for an iced matcha. I do hope that they are paying their employees a living wage with these prices. 2) If you don't want to pay for street parking, you'll need to find a spot in a residential neighborhood and walk a few blocks. This may be of interest to those with budget or ability concerns. I don't mind walking, and I detest paying for overpriced street parking. But if this doesn't bother you, go wild. Walking into this beautiful place i was EXCITED!! I found it online by chance and the aesthetic is just my style! I really loved the place and atmosphere! It's a wonderful place to study and get things done, but the food and coffee just weren't that good to me! The coffee felt a bit watered down and truly not very coffee tasting.... and the burrito sadly just wasn't it either!! It lacked a lot of flavor and i did not like the hot sauce... and i love hot sauce! I actually didn't even finish the burrito sadly, it just needed a lot of things added for me! If in the future they change things up and add new things to the menu I would be willing to give this place another chance!! honestly i wanted to like it, but the coffee was burnt so badly and the syrup was so artificial tasting. i ordered the bourbon pumpkin spice and a breakfast sandwich. the breakfast sandwich was 12 dollars (the price of a chipotle bowl) and was two slices of white bread drowning in mayo to the point where i couldn't even eat it. i don't like to complain so i just through it all away but for 18 dollars plus tip...yeah im never coming back read more
