It's been almost 3 days since I had City Tacos and I'm sitting at my desk in Tucson and those are the best words I have to describe my feelings right now. Driving by we saw the line outside and flipped it to get some eats as we had just arrived in town. It's been a long day of driving and we were hungry so we ordered a LOT of food. I would seriously LOVE to sample everything on their menu because what we had was outstanding. Here we go..... Mexicali taco: steak, onions & peppers over mashed potatoes covered in cheese, all in a tortilla. There is not one thing wrong with any of that. Pescado taco: this baby is melt in your mouth delicious. Perfectly cooked mahi, cabbage, onion, habanero & strawberry....amazing flavors all in one taco! Chorizo Asado taco: I am known for my love and desire of chorizo so this was a no-brainer for me. Plus I'm a pineapple on my pizza kinda of person so a taco with perfectly seasoned chorizo and slightly carmelized pineapple covered in melted cheese is at the top of my list of mouth watering items. Carne Asada taco: standard but still very delicious Carnitas taco: perfectly seasoned and TONS of meat in this taco Frijoles Charros: soooo yummy and comforting. Hot, almost creamy pinto beans with chorizo, ham and carnitas topped with cheeses and a pico de gallo type topping along with a grilled green onion and a grilled serrano. Good enough and filling enough to be it's own entree. Churros: Delicious, sweet and cooked to perfection served with a Mexican caramel sauce that is the ideal accompaniment...neither too sweet or sticky but just right. !Despite the long line, it didn't take long to get our order in and food delivered to our outdoor table. it takes a lot for me to give a 5-star review, but these guys earned it by breaking the mold of a typical american cafe, with good prices, great food and great environment, all in one. In Encinitas no less! We enjoyed every one of the taco specialties, corn, beer, and quesadilla. Everything prepared to perfection. Seemed promising based on menu, but the food was bad quality. Me and 3 others feel very sick after eating here. The prices were high for single tacos. We were very disappointed with the quality. The food did not seem fresh. I ordered two tacos; My fish taco was super greasy and mostly breading. Scallops taco was super weird like a soup and scallops were not fresh. My husbands tacos were cold and one had mango and it was clearly canned. My friends were not happy either. We went directly to store after for ginger ale. The churros also had a disappointment. The cajeta was diluted and was very watery. Still, my favorite tacos are Steak&Bones in Hillcrest. Afterward, we started burping. We ate at city tacos last night, we have ate at the PB location so we were excited to have it in Encinitas. The staff was attentive and nice, and we got our food fast even though it was really busy. The food was not good at all. Chips and guacamole tasted like the guac you get in a package from Vons. Carne asada tacos - the meat was gross, we couldn't finish them. If I contract the coronavirus, you can just quarantine me here. Seriously, if you're a vegetarian and haven't hit up City Tacos yet, you're definitely doing yourself a disservice. Between the chile relleno, cauliflower, and mushroom/veggie tacos this is by far the best meatless option in San Diego to satisfy that taco craving. They're definitely top-shelf tacos so don't expect a cheap price tag, but trust me you're getting that Crown Royal between corn and flour tortillas. The staff was really friendly and the food came out pretty quickly considering the line that accumulated in a matter of minutes after we ordered. Until I go back to eating meat, I might have to say that CT is my favorite taco shop chain in town. read more

I felt so bad for coming in late but she was so thorough and answered all questions I had about the menu as I'm Gf and DF. She even went through all the salsas with me and packed them up. We were in Encinitas for a concert during the Cruisin' Nights and decided to order a bite to eat. We ordered online and got it to go so we could sit in the Lumberyard and listen to the music. Our order was ready within 10 minutes and was hot and fresh. Checking in on Yelp we received a free quesadilla (I opted for the fresh house made corn tortillas). Two perfectly made thick tortillas with crispy cheese in-between. It was tasty. I also got chips with homemade guacamole, the guac was fresh and there was plenty of it with lots of warm tortilla chips. I saw portabello tacos on the menu, amazing choice! They are packed with grilled portobellos, corn, chilies, cheese, tomatoes, black beans, and onions (veggie option available). Didn't even miss the meat. They were loaded with fresh veggies and full of flavor. I will for sure be ordering again. All in all great tasting food high quality and decently priced. Friendly staff as well. Terrific, and creative mix of ingredients in these tacos! Each one is different; if you get two different fish or shrimp tacos, you'll notice the unique flavors in each. Once we found this place, we make excuses to drive through Encinitas when we are on the coast. City Tacos is a great alternative to the Taco Stand and they're doing outdoor dining on their patio which has a great ambience, and dogs are welcome on the patio so that is a plus! Their tacos are delicious, especially the monthly special squash blossom. The Tlocaya was kinda meh. Their green salsa could definitely be improved. The roasted red salsa is a little too spicy.
