I went back to let them know, and the cook in the back apologized and remade my burrito the way it was supposed to be made. I believe they said the person was the owner's son - that kid should not be in the kitchen. Horrible first experience, but I would still recommend going when George is there I believe that's his. I really like Roberto's, we order from GrubHub or Uber eats and my wife loves the crunchy chicken tacos. My favorite location is Luecadia, but the one in Solana Beach is quicker for delivery service services and for us so the other day I was getting a car wash next-door and I thought I'd like a breakfast burrito. I was so specific as I always am with a breakfast burrito, sausage, cheese. (Light) crispy, hashbrowns, and eggs.... That's it very simple. The outdoor seating area needs some repairs and maybe more shade/umbrellas. Parking is limited but most people are in and out so just give it a sec if it's full. I grew up in La Jolla and went to high school down the street at Santa Fe Christian so I've been to this location and countless other Roberto's over the decades. I would say they are most known for their delicious salsa and OK burritos. Most of my other favorite burrito spots have closed down over the years, but Roberto's is always consistently a good option. They don't have the best version of burritos, fish tacos, or other items, but they always do the job and fill you up for a cheap price. This location is right next to the beach just off the 101 and has a lot of free parking attached. They don't have indoor seating, just outdoor tables, but this is more of a to go type of place. Everything that we order is always made very fast so you won't have to be waiting long. The burrito invented in San Diego is called the California Burrito so it's what I've been ordering since high school and get every single time. Their fish tacos are pretty good as well, but they have gotten a lot smaller over the years. I would say that you must get their medium salsa no matter what you order as that is their best item. Roberto's Taco shop is peak San Diego beachside Mexican food in my opinion- everything we ordered was flavorful and crispy and delicious, and came out quickly, in huge portions. The guy behind the counter was beyond sweet, and the outdoor seating was the perfect place to sit for a warm day, after having been at the beach. Plus, the food was all quite reasonably priced, especially compared to many of the other nearby options. It is a walking distance from the Amtrak station in case you plan your trip without cars, but there was also a small parking lot in front of the stand that seemed to have good availability in case you are driving. Did you know in a cheese enchilada the cheese ​is supposed to be shredded inside and it ISN'T supposed to be melted all the way, just melted a little. ​ And did you know, you should wipe your own tables with the stack of dry napkins they hand you. These miracle napkins will not only wipe away the food remnants but also the grease, and salsa and grime from MANY prior customers. If you ask for a something wet to wipe the table down, the worker gets snarly. Called in a lunch order Wednesday the 15th April, they told me about 15 min for the order arrived it and it was ready, after an other 10 minutes i asked for the phone order, was told it was not ready. Asked a few minutes later and the chaser said we make the easier orders first not big orders. Makes no sense to me at all why call to place an order when it's not going to be convenient. Not the best ever but not the worst. We have been going to this Roberto's and the one near Torrey Pines for years. It's good and the location is perfect for a lunch or dinner of "burritos on the beach." The horchata is very good and I really enjoy their verde salsa. It's been consistently good over the years. I recommend if you're hungry for some Mexican food after your time at the beach or on the beach as you walk to Tides Beach a few steps and stairs away. read more

Best carne asada! We've eaten at a handful of other Mexican places around and this is our families favorite.

Unfortunately the pawrents cannot recommend this location. The tables were very dirty seemed like they hadn't been wiped in months. There were food residues and dirt in all the tables. The worse part, while mom was walking me, dad ordered a bottle of water (small bottle for $2.00!!) which mom didn't want so we told them we didn't want it after all. They said we couldn't return it because it had been touched. You're concerned about something being touched yet your location is full of germs, unhygienic, dirty, ... The food (which was ok) had to be eaten in the car because tables were too dirty. Health inspectors need to pay them a visit. I do NOT recommend. Grrrrrrr read more

We went camping at the beach and came across this place it looked pretty Authentic looking at the menu but it was not what I expected we ordered a burrito shrimp tacos and taquitos it was gross tortilla was falling apart there was more cabbage then shrimp. Cross contamination alert! Dirty food preparation and handling. This place has really gone down hill over the years and now they have rude workers! I used to go here while I was in high school, but now they seem like a different restaurant that isn't as nice as it used to be. Over time I've noticed the portion sizes getting smaller while the burritos cost more. Today I realize the workers are very rude, and they are dirty for a restaurant! The last time I will go there: for my burrito it had cross contamination, for in the added photo you can see there was bacon in my "vegetarian" breakfast burrito. As I was sitting waiting without food there were already several flys buzzing around the tables in and out of the trash cans that seems to be within 10 ft of every table.. The cashier then had the audacity to kick me out after I complained about the bacon instead of remaking the burrito the way I ordered it like a regular restaurant. The food isn't great and they are rude and dirty! Not to mention the poor experience dining there for they now have portopotties for the customers and workers while the old one stall bathroom is under construction and you will be attacked by flys for the full duration of your meal! read more

My partner and I stopped by for lunch after hiking in the area! Roberto's Mexican is close by to the beach so easy access and they have a parking lot right by car wash so you can get your car cleaned while you eat. We ordered 5 potato rolled tacos ($8.50), fish burrito ($9.50), and a large pineapple agua Fresca ($3.25). Portions were large and the taste is solid. I was surprised by the low reviews! The pricing is great given its prime location and size. Potato rolled tacos are the highlight! They come loaded with sour oream, special salsa verda, cabbage, and cheese. The fish burrito wasn't as good as expected since the fish wasn't fresh (more like fish sticks) but it is hefty in size so you definitely will be full. The pineapple agua Fresca was all drunk and no ice! It is on the sweet side and complements the spiciness in the food. Very busy during lunchtime but the line moved quickly and we managed to find seating in their outdoor dining area. There is a restroom in case you need to go before or after you eat! Overall, this is a fast casual Mexican place so don't expect anything amazing (pleasantly surprised with the potato tacos!) but it is does a great job with portion, price, and location. read more

Their tortillas are not as good (they used to be amazing and they dont add avocado slices if you wAnt them (and are willing to pay of course).. what kind of mexican place does not have avo slices? Just got off the phone with the owner of this location. I called her to let her know how awful the cashier was and some hygiene complaints that I had around this particular cashier. She told me that they had fired the cashier a couple weeks ago and she was horrified to hear about some of the interactions that I had observed.
