I didn't know anything about this place but some friends of mine told me that they get food from here all the time. After trying their tacos I understand why. This is a no frills place with a little seating inside and a little seating outside, which is exactly what I would expect from a place with "shack" in the name. From what I could tell there are three different ways you can order. Most of us ordered at a kiosk (which accepts Apple Pay). When you do that you're given a number that you listen for them to call out. You can also go up to the window and order. When you do that you're given a pager for when your food is ready. There's also a sign that said that you can order online. Even though they seemed busy we didn't have to wait long for our food. I got crispy chicken tacos and they were absolutely delicious. They came with two types of salsa. I hate spicy food and avoided one of them, but the other was a mild heat and it was also delicious. I thought the prices were really reasonable also. I definitely want to come back and try other menu items from Raul's! read more

I ordered the California burrito($11.35). It's my first California burrito in San Diego. Which some people might say is my first real California burrito. It's a solid burrito. Great size. Ingredients are tasty. It's good enough that I feel like I can try other items, as I've finally experienced a legitimate California burrito. It paired nicely with a guava Jarrito. No bathrooms here and awkward parking. Seating is outside right next to parking spaces. Despite these things, it has a very steady flow of traffic. They were churning out good food. This seems like a good place to visit before or after the beach. The burrito was nicely packaged in a brown bag. I don't live here and I don't imagine I'll ever be back in this town. Stopped here for lunch. Wow this place is AMAZING. Some of the best Mexican food I have ever had from this little shack. You go up to the counter and order and they hand you a pager. I ordered the beef Taquito burrito. My husband ordered the fish tacos and a carnitas crispy taco. All of the food was amazing. I will be thinking about the Taquito burrito for a long time. It was delicious with cheese and guacamole inside it. My husband loved his food too. The fish tacos were so good. If you are looking for the good Mexican food you hear about San Diego having, Raul's is where you need to go. And the price is not bad at all! I honestly don't know how places like chipotle etc stay in business out here when you have amazing Mexican places like this for the same price. 5 stars read more

Raul's has been a staple of mine for years in Encinitas. It's the perfect place to grab a quick bite to-go. I always get a taquito burrito because it is just that good. They put four taquitos into a burrito and they are nice enough to let you customize your taquito filling. (I usually get two beef and two potato) and the red salsa is so good. I never have to wait long and they hand you a buzzer to know when your food is ready rather than having to listen for your name/order number. There are a few tables outside and a few inside but I mostly just come here and get food to-go and eat it at moonlight beach nearby. Although the prices have gone up over the years, I always felt they were fair and reasonable, for the quality of food. read more

I have a lot of comments so I'm reducing them to bullet points - Parking: Hard to find, has 1 parking spot for online orders - Pricing: we ordered at the kiosk and the burrito/ were ~$8 but if you wanted to add rice or even beans it was extra, but some people ordered at the register and it sounded like they got all of the additional things that were extra so definitely has some discrepancy - Food: I ordered my hot sauce and mild sauce on the inside of the burrito but they all came on the side, and the food wasn't mixed. This may be just nit picking but all the rice and meat were on one side and the veggies and as I'm writing this I realized I didn't get 1/2 of the extras I ordered like guacamole and onions in all 3 of the burritos. Unfortunately I can't recommend this place. I was really looking forward to a burrito and we were in the neighborhood. We ordered online because I thought it would be easier to customize my burrito. It was. It said it would be ready at 11:14 and we got here at about 11:10. First of all, we weren't politely greeted. The lady closed the window in our faces and said "It's over there if you want to place an order." If I hadn't already placed an order I wouldn't have. I don't give my money to places that treat me badly right off the bat. Anyway our burritos were ready but quite cold. Honestly, I thought mine tasted good.
