One of my go to places as the food here is so good it's become quite popular. Unfortunately, the wait times have gotten progressively slower to the point where I had to ask for my money back after waiting 20 minutes and then being told there were three other orders still ahead of me. Cashier told me " it isn't my fault". Never said it was. Please don't tell a customer waiting that long for two tacos there are three orders ahead of you or it isn't my fault, fix the problem. My experience here was awesome. This is an A++ service establishment. The workers are extremely friendly and you can tell they care about their work. Juan gave me the best recommendations and while I was enjoying them I noticed Rita being so kind towards the customers that I simply had to get up and compliment her. Not only was I blown away by the amazing service the staff was providing but the tacos were truly amazing. I have grown up in the area and have tried many tacos and this one may be my new favorite. You cannot beat El Pueblo's $1 fish taco value, but if you want an absolutely delicious taco, great service, and a nice sit down environment, this is the place. Even the plating of each taco here was beautiful. Why on earth would you wait for an hour at Taco Stand to get an inferior taco and inferior experience? I am amazed that I have not been here before, but I can promise you that I will be here again. 10/10 experience and I highly recommend it to anyone. I would not even rate this a one star. I tried every taco on their menu, spending over $50. I spit out the mahi mahi taco because it tasted like rotten v*g**a. All the other tacos were dry and not tasty. The meat seems to be of low quality. I honestly would have rather walked 10 miles to a grocery store instead of taking a bite of every taco I paid for. The one thing that is not horrible is their guacamole, so if you need something to mask the foul taste... get their guacamole on the side. read more

It is always so great when you stumble upon something that is sooooo amazing! These tacos did not disappoint. We ordered a little bit of everything, six different tacos to be exact. They were all amazing, but my two favorites were the carnitas taco and mexicali taco! The homemade tortiallas were incredible. I will be back to try the carnitas taco with a flour tortilla (recommeded by the person that brought the tacos). We were impressed! We tried an assortment of tacos and can't decide which we liked best between the portabella mushroom, fish, and carnitas. I was surprised how juicy good the portabella was. The fish taco is superb and holds its' own in the many variations of fish tacos available in San Diego. The carnitas had a generous portion of tender pork, embellished with a chicarrone. They use fresh, quality ingredients like arugula, cilantro, diced tomatoes, guacamole, corn, black beans, and cheese. The fresh tortillas are worth every calorie! read more

The food speaks for itself here but the customer service is on par! The owner Israel Montana will make you feel like the most important customer they ever had. We floated in late and explained that on yelp the hours said closed. Israel answered with " I'll change that tonight, I'm but I'm glad you're here now". They should change their name to Sh*tty Tacos. Took my family there for lunch yesterday and had old-tasting, disgusting guacamole, 2 garbage chorizo tacos and a cold carne asada taco. I should have taken a picture of the corn that we sent back; it was old and had a bunch of brown kernels. This place was/is terrible and I'm sorry that I wasted the money, calories and time trying it. My wife said she should have known it'd be bad after walking into the smelly restaurant. No line when I arrived which is always nice. There wasn't a huge amount of people in the whole place. Ordered 3 tacos, basic ones, to go. Waited 30 mins. Finally get them and ask for extra hot sauce and the lady gave me attitude. Had to ask again at the counter. Don't see why It was such a problem to get more especially after waiting 30 mins for tacos. Also saw in the kitchen a guy holding the corn, not using gloves, but a dirty kitchen towel. The carne asada taco tasted like ground beef and just not a lot of flavor. The shrimp enchilado taco was SOOOOOO good. The only girl working there was grouchy and very unhelpful. We ate there during the Encinitas street fair this weekend and because we were snacking all day, we didn't order much. Later on that night after day drinking in the sun, we couldn't stop thinking about the shrimp taco and ended up going back for takeout dinner. I was too full to eat anything other than the shrimp taco but boyfriend had the "shank you taco" and the one with pulled pork and he said they were really good. Also the girl at the front counter in the evening seemed a lot nicer. I would say not to expect greatness from the carne asada taco but everything else seemed to have a ton of flavor and even though I like my tacos made with corn tortillas, the shrimp enchilado taco is AHmazing with the flour tortilla. read more

City Tacos is amazing! I loved Sakura Bana (the restaurant at that location before) and if it had to go, I'm really happy another great restaurant took its place. City Tacos has a variety of unique tacos and we've really liked everyone we tried. My office's favorite by far is the portobello taco! And the chile relleno taco, mahi, and surf n turf. Their prices are pretty inexpensive for what you get and two tacos are filling. Good salsa choices, friendly staff, many vegetarian options, and lots of parking. read more

This place sucks. Took almost 30 minutes for over the counter tacos. Carnitas were just a hunk of fat covered in over-fried pork rinds. Chicken tacos were basically a grilled piece of chicken with "guacamole" (watered down avocado sauce) wrapped in a tortilla. The taco craze has peaked. read more

Wowsa! These tacos are the bomb. So flavorful and not heavy. Great atmosphere and service. Nice outdoor space too. Good for families. I had the califlor (vegan) and hubby had the portobello taco. We are fans of the taco stand down the street but will make this a regular haunt too. Came in for a taste and ended up staying for dinner. Wish they had carrots at the salsa bar but other than that, it was perfect! The jicama at the salsa bar was a good alternative. Five stars for the tacos, but the workflow at the ordering counter definitely needs improvement. One person is responsible for it all, taking the order, taking payment, getting the drinks, preparing the chips, while other staff gives drink samples to the long line outside. It would be much more efficient to have more staff helping at the order desk so the queue doesn't continue to build! read more

It's hard to believe that Encinitas has only had this place for a little over a month. The tacos and atmosphere are such a great addition to the 101! Nina West And Natalie, the two front employees, sparkle the place with a fun and vibrant energy. They'll set you up with the right tacos based on what you like. I highly recommend that anyone who loves a good taco and a hospitable restaurant, stop here and enjoy the place. It will not disappoint and you'll be hungry to return whenever Nina and Natalie are working because they're so kind and helpful. Not sure what kind of tacos these are because they are not Mexican tacos. Many of tacos are served with flour tortillas and one of my tacos had squash or pumpkin inside. I ate all the tacos, shrimp taco tasted super plain, fish taco was decent, carne asada was OKAY, chile relleno taco was the only good taco I ate. I also tried there special shrimp auga chile and it was TERRIBLE and expensive. read more

My husband can really eat, so it seemed like we nearly tried every taco on the menu. There were definitely tacos we loved, and others that were just fine and nothing special. Overall we thought food was good, but felt like the cleanliness of the restaurant hampered the experience. The inside was visibly dirty and had a weird cleaning solution smell, the laminated menus were gross, and the tables were really sticky. Wonderful place - and a great idea! Gourmet tacos, from tri-tip with mashed potatoes (the Mexicali) to lamb and leeks (the Borrego) to all sorts of delicious seafood tacos. Very affordable - they are bigger than your typical street tacos, and three should full you up. Still working my way down the menu - and I love this place so much I went three times last week.
