City Thrift is a great thrift store if you are looking for designer items like purses and jeans. They don't have much of a pet section, and their linens are limited. Those are typically the only things I shop for. Otherwise, the store is organized and the sales are clearly labeled. I never been to a store where I wanted to run and make a yelp review faster than today. Not because I want to tarnish this business reputation. Although, I think they have already accomplished that from the other reviews. But, I wanted to make these reviews so the people who fall victim to their scam and unfathomable greed. Walking around we just saw predominately elderly shoppers. They have their items priced erratically. Remember that old raggedy 2000 jacket from old navy your mom bought you that you never wore so you threw it in the back of your closet and it grew it's own habit and ecosystem? Your mom bought it for 12.99 back in 2000, but now with its chic mold and living creatures and a few holes from the moths, at City Thrift they charge 19.99 not 20 but 19.99, cause if it ends in .99 it's a DEAL! We spent an hour playing, "guess the price". Probably the spookiest game since the Ouija. This place preys on the elderly, preys on the less fortunate. You could go to Walmart and buy 4 items for the price of one of theirs. This isn't a "vintage" store. This is a sham. I put every item I wanted back. Also, there's zero mirrors. No fitting rooms. They want you to buy it and be stuck with it. This isn't a store that cares about customers. This is a store of an owner with a poor business model and probably a grumpy ego. I may have put my other stuff back, but I found a duck okay? I wanted the duck. I needed this duck. Hate to give this place any money but, it was priced at 3.99, I could muster up 3.99 and save the duck. This little guy had a goodwill sticker that said 2.99. But... wait... when we went to the register, their sticker was magically gone. I asked how much they the duck was. Already wondering how much I'd squander for this poor duck. They debated whether to charge me what was already priced by goodwill (that they scribbled out) or up charge me...... Literally a preposterous suggestion. After walking an hour through this ghastly place and playing "guess the price" and trying to up charge me for my sweet duck sent me over the edge. I asked them, "how do you even pick prices for stuff?" She said, "we charge half of the retail price" Then I asked, what about the pitiable 2000 sweaters from 24 years ago? How do you know that retail price today? And how can you charge half for something two decades old? It's not vintage...it's someone's trash at this point. They had no answers. I Believe that the clothes in this thrift store are extremely over priced. There is a wide variety of items ranging from vintage to newer styles so if you're willing to spend more money, there is something for everyone. I go here for the books, games, and decor. There is cute decor for 5-10 dollars which is a steal to me! And occasionally I can find a good deal on a clothing piece but rarely! Considering that almost all of the reviews mention expensive prices, they should highly consider lowering prices because more people would shop there. read more

I stopped in to this thrift store for the first time today. The thrift store was generally clean and organized. They have the general offerings of most normal larger thrift stores. I did not purchase anything on this occasion so I cannot comment on the service. The main reason I did not purchase anything was because the pricing is way too high in my opinion. I looked through the women's clothing, and I feel like their prices were higher than other thrift stores. Many shirts were nine dollars or more and jeans were $13 or more. Keep in mind that the items I was looking through were not any great brand and looked worn. So I was disappointed in their pricing. I was going to try on two blouses but I walked around the whole store and did not see any changing rooms. They did have public restrooms by the cash register, and that is it. The store has an absolutely beautiful selection of clothing. It is mostly vintage with very high-quality pieces. I could have spent forever in there. However, it is very expensive. I paid $35 for three shirts and my one complaint about the store is that there are no mirrors or dressing rooms. Additionally, I was in line for 15 minutes because the cashiers took a very long time checking people out. However, I was very impressed by the selection of clothing. read more

I am so frustrated with this store and business model. I really try to buy secondhand when I can but it is getting more and more tough. This store prices the same as retail price. At that price you should offer a fitting room to make sure pieces work. I bought multiple high price items to see if they'd work for someone in my family. Brought them home to try on and came back 9 days later to return. Mind you there was a snowstorm for some of those days which is why I was late. I couldn't return for cash back on my card and they'd only let me do exchange. So I spent another hour finding something's to exchange for. When I got to the register the lady said she couldn't take it because it was 2 days past the return window. Ridiculous! If you're going to charge retail price for donated items you need to offer some customer service otherwise this feels like entrapment and not a good cause for the community. This was a huge waste of time and money that affects me greatly and I have chosen to no longer support these stores. Overpriced. Overpriced. Overpriced. My friends and I came in for shoes and white shirts to wear during a fun run where we knew they would be stained. We needed some used, but cheap clothing we could ruin but then keep shoes for mowing lawns and things of that nature. We found something almost immediately. And then just as quickly put it back when we realized the prices of these beat up shoes were $9, 10 and 16. Who wants to pay this for USED/rejected shoes? They weren't even cleaned. The original wearers dirt still on them and all. Oh, and they were Walmart Champion brand. We also found shirts that were stained, faded, or way out of style. We didn't mind because we just were going to run and mess them up. But they were $4-9 each too. Next time we will be choosing Goodwill or Salvation Army for much more reasonably priced used items. One of theee most expensive thrift stores i've ever been to. I spent a good 20 minutes inside of the store, and although there were some OK-ish items nothing worth paying up for. I found their prices to be ridiculous. I searched and I searched and I could not find anything less than $12 for any clothing items. Even the items that were old and outdated and had stains were raked up so high in price it was ridiculous. I come here on my days off and if I am bored. This is your typical thrift store with typical thrift store stuff. They have some nicer items sometime but are a little more expensive than the Salvation Army down the road. Used to love this spot. Their "Vintage Shop" section is disgusting and gross. $80 for a vintage Boston shirt. $9 for used TMNT action figures from the 90's. This isn't thrifting, this is picking from the lot yourself and marking it up as HIGH as humanly possible. It's disgusting to do this with FREE donations. This is my go-to thrift store! I am a weekly supporter lol and may have a problem with saving money . In our current throw away environment I find recycling or upcycling to be personally rewarding! Here's the key, you have to know what tags are on sale. Sign up for their program and they text you alerts and you'll accumulate points for separate % off! There is a sign behind check out telling you what tags are on sale that day and they have also added signage at the end of some of the aisles as well. It's not as organized as places like Savers but I rarely walk out of here empty handed. When my friends compliment my home decor or my attire, I am proud to tell them it is thrift store a la mode ‍. A lot of folks complain about their prices and trust me I've done it as well when flipping through racks but when you find the right item with the right color tag- the feeling is worth it! Good thrifting takes time and effort. It's not for those with little patience. You don't always find what you are looking for but the inventory is always changing so it's a great excuse to come back! read more

Went to the new Shawnee store.. Nice and clean store. Staff was very nice. Prices are WAY too high. $10 for Walmart jeans and $30.00 for Gap pants that are 16 years old. I witnessed several people walking out without purchasing anything because of the prices. read more

I used to be a every Sunday regular. I loved to look for bargains. I could always find lots clothes, kitchen and home decor. The special $.50 for items with a certain color priced tag was lots of fun and a good deal. When the price increase to $.75 went into effect, it seemed like there was less to choose from for those color tags. I would have to spend more and find less available. That plus a really rude and unfriendly manager and another rude male employee. I will never shop there again. read more

It is mind boggling how they come up with their prices. What's more astonishing, is how they manage to make sales with their ridiculous pricing model. My only theory is most of their clientele are not familiar with fair market value and believe they are getting a bargain just because they are at a thrift store. I've really only shopped here when I needed an ugly sweater or other themed attire for parties and/or functions, but it would be well worth the regular shopping visit for normal items. When you consider the level of opulence around College and Antioch, you'll understand that many of the items dropped off here are really nice. Name brand clothing for a couple bucks? Score. Lightly used housewares and sporting equipment at a reasonable price? Check. This thrift store is clean but very very overpriced. The clothes, shoes, and glass case items are grossly overpriced. T-shirts priced up to $9 is not ok. Ties priced at $8 is not appropriate. These are used!!! Walmart ties brand new are $10. Colored tag sales are only on the weekends, while other t-stores will have sales throughout the week. People who stop in on lunch breaks can't get the weekend deals. Just because your in Overland Park doesn't mean you have to upcharge on everything. We were just tooting around and saw this nice, huge new thrift store in Overland Park...U-turn...went back to take a look... Nice facility, still in the grand opening stages so still clean and orderly. I'd been looking for a small cooler, right away found one that was pretty clean for just under $4. Grabbed it and strolled around the rest of the store, in another section there is almost the exact same cooler -- just a little larger for $3. I put the other cooler back and left. I don't like inconsistent pricing like that. A lady that was trying to check out when we came in was still standing and waiting for a cashier the whole 10 minutes I was there anyway... so I probably would have been there 30 minutes trying to pay for a used cooler that was questionably priced. read more

Prices are WAY too high!! I saw a coffee mug that I had just purchased at the dollar tree with a 3.99 price tag and an small empty Brennans Irish cream bottle for 4.99...seriously!? Forgot to check in while I was here. $31 buys one 8 shirts and an egg cup. I have never seen Duluth Trading clothes at a thrift store in Omaha but here I found a summer shirt for 3.99. Lots of choice from clothes to things to hang on your wall. I may even head back to get a chair for my classrooom. Just need to see if I can fit it in my car. Glad I stopped by this unassuming shop. We come here quite a bit because of the decent, cheap finds. People usually go to thrift stores to find good things for a good price and that is generally our experience. My freshman son went to City thrift and bought a bike to get around campus unfortunately he now knows to look thing over first. The derailer was hanging off all of the gears on it where stripped and the chain was bent in half. this bike is really total junk. When he tried to return it 'Rich" told him it was a collectors bike was a collectors bike meant for display who would not want a rusted out 12 Speed "free Sprit" bike proudly hung on the wall. When I called to ask to please allow us to return it, Rich became very belligerent and told me he already looked and I could buy a new derailer for $10 and a new chain for $15 on Craig's list (must have know that call was coming) then told me in the same breath that it worked fine when it left the store (both tires where flat). City Thrift flat out took advantage of my son. He did not have the $45 to throw away on this bike and now I have to find some place to scrap it.
