My family came into the city from jersey for a weekend. We wanted something different to do than walking around/seeing a play to break up our day. I saw a deal on a Gilt and snatched it up. I went on the Soho wine tour this past weekend and I can't say enough positive things about the experience. It was highly enjoyable and I learned about pairings and how to distinguish between different wines. And it never got dull because we went to three different locations and moved around at a perfect pace. We walked from the first location to the second and then to the third, so we got to check out the neighborhood as well. Because of this, my husband and I are planning to stay in Soho the next time we visit. Our guide, Barbie was vivacious. She is a reputable sommelier, highly knowledgeable and congenial. She was laid-back, yet had a presence that held everyone's attention. The only downer is that they don't offer this same tour in Chicago! read more

This was the best wine lesson I've ever had, and a really fun experience. Vitalli is more of a historian than just a tour guide, as well as an accomplished Somm. He taught my small corporate group about the history of wine, lessons in tasting, and also how to select and order appropriately during a business dinner. It was perfect for our group! My husband and I were extremely disappointed in City Wine Tours. We had been in touch with the guide throughout the week, and had alerted them that our daughter was very sick. The day of, my husband and I came down with the flu, but when we attempted to try to reschedule our session, we were told we were not able to. Given the size of the company, and advertised intimacy of the experience, we expected a more understanding response. We would not recommend. read more

I attended the West Village wine tour in December with my boyfriend and 2 friends from out of town. I had bought the tickets for everyone as a Christmas present and was extremely disappointed in this experience. We felt the tour guide did not know much at all about wine and didn't even try to teach us anything new - we definitely knew more than him. I've been to other wine tastings where the instructor teaches you a lot in how to taste the wine and dissect the flavors - our guide basically just asked us if we liked it. He also kept vaguely insisting when we said we didn't enjoy a particular wine (because it was cheap tasting) that every wine would taste better with food - yes wine usually does taste better with food but isn't the point of going to a tasting learning what foods pair with wines and what flavors different foods might bring out in the wine? Not sure how we were supposed to learn anything from him! Additionally, they seemed to only serve us very cheap wines. I scanned the wine bottles and looked them up - none cost over $20 (for a high price per head, I would have expected better than bottom shelf bottles!). I just cannot justify the amount of money I paid per person based on the experience that we had. After the tour, the company asked for my feedback, which I responded to and wrote exactly what was written above. After that point, they still tried to sell me a private tour, which tells me they don't even care about the feedback they receive from their customers. Avoid this complete rip-off if you can! I've had better wine tastings from a free tasting in a liquor store - where they actually know what they're talking about! read more

I took my sister on the SoHo wine tour yesterday and we had a wonderful time! Neither of us know too much about wine (except that we like to drink it!) and we had never been on a wine tasting, so we didn't know what to expect. Our guide, Barbie, was great! She was very knowledgeable and created a fun, relaxing atmosphere. She was also great at remembering people's preferences and referring back for comparison throughout the tour when discussing different wines. The group was small and intimate (12 people) so we were able to ask any questions we had throughout. The venues were also great. We started out at City Winery (beautiful venue) and then went to Galli. We were supposed to go to Comodo as well, but they had a pipe burst earlier in the morning, but that stop was replaced with a longer stay at Galli (Galli was nice enough to allow us the space along with two extra varietals of wine to replace what we would have had at Comodo.) That unexpected change of schedule was no fault of City Wine Tours. Nobody on the tour minded and we got the wine that was promised, so everyone was happy. I will say that we were served a lot more wine than I was expecting. I thought we would only get enough wine for a couple sips, but actually, we were served enough to really taste and get the full experience the wine. I can say I learned a great deal about different wines, the flavors, and how it is made. I would highly recommend City Wine Tours and am looking forward to trying the West Village tour next! read more

We took the West Village tour. Three different stops. The best part of the tour was our Peter Messa! Extremely personable and knowledgeable. The variety of wine selections was quite good: two from Italy, two from France, two from Spain. Enjoyed the walking, seeing something new, meeting new people, trying different wines. Fun! So originally I was not the happiest because I had booked the West village wine tour and the week of my wine tour they told us it was booked for a private event and we were being switch to the SoHo Wine Tour or we could reschedule for another day. The close to last minute notification was somewhat annoying, but not a deal-breaker since they did what they could to accommodate us. Well, I am VERY glad I ended up going with the SoHo Wine Tour! Justin was a phenomenal guide, and SO knowledgeable, and really thorough with any questions we asked! He made it enjoyable, educational, and just an overall great two hours. The choices of six wines were excellent, paired with pretty good food. The group is kept small - to a max of 12 people, so everyone has a chance to ask questions, hear the guide, etc. Only 2 locations are chosen, which I thought I would be disappointed in since it doesn't seem like much of a "tour," but it actually made for a more relaxing and leisurely experience since we could sit and really talk about the wines and not rush from one location to the other. The wine tour was excellent. First, we enjoyed great selections of French varieties and then we walked to another place for Spanish varieties. Overall, the atmosphere was great, the wine connoisseur was very knowledgeable, and the group size made it more manageable and everyone got to ask questions and be part of the whole experience. The West Village City Wine Tour on a Sunday afternoon was an incredible experience that I highly recommend! It was a great way to explore West Village's best wineries. A beginner in wine tasting, this was a great avenue to learn the basics of wine tasting and parings from our guide Barbie. She was extremely knowledgeable and would have been able to gear the tour towards wine connoisseurs as well. Her enthusiastic personality and passion for wine made the tour even more enjoyable, she stayed after the tour ended to answer any remaining questions we had and followed up with some resourceful links to wine websites and suggestions she had for other wineries in the city! The restaurants all had something different to offer and were a great selection. We spent the most time at Cantina Corsino much to my pleasure, the chef stopped by and commented on the appetizers he had selected and I cannot wait to go back for a full meal! The A.O.C. had a great atmosphere and we had our own corner for the group and a great meat/cheese plate in addition to our wines. Azya Wine & Chocolate Bar was the perfect way to end the tour with Spanish wines and chocolate. I cannot wait to try the SoHo City Wine Tour! read more
