On May 7, I scheduled Pepper's first grooming appointment. We were especially excited because the location is very close to my home. We booked a grooming service and were clear with the front desk about our expectations. We selected a tier 3 shortness level haircut and explicitly requested her entire body to be trimmed -- including her head, face, and a lion-style tail (fluffy end, trimmed shaft). Unfortunately, the results were disappointing. Upon pickup, Pepper shook her body and an excessive amount of loose hair fell off, which indicated she was not brushed thoroughly after the cut. In addition, the specific areas we highlighted were not properly groomed, and the cut across her body is noticeably uneven. I have attached photos for your reference. While I understand this was her first appointment and the groomer was seeing her for the first time, I want to make it clear that Pepper is a very calm and cooperative dog who is easy to groom. There should not have been any behavioral challenges affecting the outcome. Given the quality of the grooming service provided, we do not believe the results reflect the price we paid. We requested a discount or partial refund for the visit, and have not heard from anyone. We followed up two more times and still nothing. We hope this feedback can be used to improve quality control and communication in the future. We will not be back again. read more

Citydog! downtown is one of my dog's favorite places. She gets all the attention she wants and I feel comfortable that she is in a safe space where she can't cause trouble or destroy my house. Sometimes she can be kind of barky and stubborn at daycare, but the people who work there are kind about giving me and her feedback. Special shoutout to Anthony who is somehow both a people person and a dog person: he has a great sense of humor and is always a pleasure to talk with. IF you get a groom, they do a decent job. But I've arrived 3 times now (over 2 years) to find they signed me up for a bath instead of a groom. I do my own baths, and don't need to pay $70+ for it. This time, even with notes in the system about clipper height and trimming the ears, AND with a confirmation phone call the week before, we got a bath. $70 down the drain. No groom. Old dog doesn't like to walk that far anymore, so carried some of both ways. I'll be going elsewhere from now on. read more

Our two pups stayed overnight at citydog club and they seemed so happy (and tired) when we picked them up the following day. The staff is always so friendly and accommodating. I was impressed seeing their report card, over night written check in log, they even kept written log of their beds and gear. Our pup Henry gets a little anxious these days, he hasn't boarded overnight since the pandemic, they were very patient and kind with him. They also allow Henry (who is 35 pounds) to hang out with his brother Max (who is 55 pounds)...that is just fantastic, these two are never separated and are BFFs. Read the other grooming reviews and think twice before you book here. What frustrates us the most is that they absolutely don't listen!! This annoys us even more than the fact that they ask you to pay and tip before they bring out the dog. Don't know how much more can we emphasize - please DON'T shave our puppy! We mentioned upfront - it's ok if they can not work around the matted hair, leave it, don't shave it, and just trim around the eyes and butt area, that's perfectly fine, we want that teddy bear shaggy dog look. And here we are...coming back to a totally different dog with all his hair shaved!!! We should've known better from our previous experiences ( they went ahead and shaved his belly right after we told them not to shave). Yet, we self doubted - maybe we were not being clear and straightforward enough in our communication? So we came back and made sure we emphasize enough about things we absolutely don't want.... What a disappointment. There's absolutely no expectation management from the business side. And it felt like we were talking to a wall... I've taken my pug here for grooming and multiple dog park stays and am very pleased with this spot! After grooming, he smelled amazing and was so soft. They're also a great place for quick nail trims as my pug is very dramatic and I don't prefer to trim at home. I find the overnight stays a little pricey, they definitely add up for longer vacations, but their location is very convenient and I've never had problems booking a spot for my dog, even for holiday weekends. I find that the convenience does justify the cost. I also like that you can subscribe to an app where you can check in via live cam (I believe it's $1.99 a month and I just pause if we don't have any stays that month). The staff here are all super friendly and my dog is always in a good mood and excited to see them when he comes in! Overall I do recommend them!! read more

I was so nervous about leaving our girl Torvi for the first time, and the staff calmed my nerves very quickly. Torvi loved everyone there, and they took excellent care of her. She had a blast playing with the other dogs. The ability to watch your dog playing on the webcam makes us nervous dog moms much more comfortable. CityDog! also gave Torvi a spa day. I walk past CityDog several times a week with Stella; she likes to stand at the window and bark at the dogs inside (and they like to bark back!). One of Stella's friends, about the same size, got a bath & trim the other day and I asked the dog's owner who provided the service; they said Christa at CityDog. So I went online and made a reservation. Followups by text and email to confirm/reconfirm; brought the rabies information along and showed it to the folks at the front desk. I have been a customer of City Dog with our previous dog but this was the first time I brought our new anxious and scared of everything (but sweet) dog in for grooming. I was nervous and was VERY upfront on his anxieties over adult humans and basically the whole grooming process. City Dog listened and reassured me that he would be fine. They were very friendly at drop-off and were super quick with the grooming. So quick that I thought he must have done something wrong! He did not, we just came on a slow grooming day. When I picked him up, they assured me that he did great and even warmed up to the blow dryer! He was excited and happy when I picked him up! Needed to find a groomer nearby to have my corgi fur babe have his nails cut (primarily) and decided to just give him a full bath/brush out- this includes nail trim, anal gland expression, ear cleaning as well. This place was super close to my apartment and I didn't want to walk too far with my 9yo corgi who is developing arthritis. Making an appointment was easy, although they fill up pretty quickly for groom appointments. I believe corgi and I waited ~2 weeks for our appointment date. They have an online portal where you can view appointments and upload any paperwork needed which I found extremely convenient. The front desk peeps were really friendly and everything went as planned. Most importantly... my corgi was returned to me happy as a clam, his coat looks amazingly brushed out, and he smells like heaven. Would return here in the future. read more

I am absolutely DISAPPOINTED at my recent experience with CityDog in Seattle and will NEVER return. I came in and checked into the front desk for a grooming appointment.  I provided my pup's rabies vaccination as I know that I would need to provide it because we have not been seen at this location.  The individual was new and asked for the physical documentation and said that it would be returned by the end of the service.  IT WAS NEVER PROVIDED BACK. I asked if I could watch my furchild as he got settled in and the individual indicated that I could not go back there.  I was confused as that has never been the case - you can watch your dog get groomed at their other location.  The individual asked me to let me dog walk up the stairs to go into daycare.  I immediately stopped her because my dog cannot be in daycare as he is an intact male.  The person did not understand and I had to reiterate that I was there for a groom. Keep in mind my adult dog is 2.8 lbs. I saw a poodle in the "small" dog area. This poodle was not small!!!!! When I picked up my dog, it was quite visible that he had a horrible cut.  His face is uneven and so is his rear.  There were hairs that should have been cut such as behind his head and legs that stand out longer than others.  They took off all his whiskers practically and missed trimming his declaw.  This experience was horrible and I would not recommend anyone to bring their furchild here for a groom. read more

Bottom line: don't use this location for boarding. They don't follow there own standards and use unsafe practices in regards to the parks. My wife and I used this place for daycare a few times before boarding my dog for a week and wasn't super impressed with the daycare but wanted to give them a chance. Main problems I encountered was that they don't have the staffing needed and we're letting dogs out each morning in the parks unsupervised before a handler arrived. As you can imagine dogs that we're cooped up all night were rather rambunctious first thing in the morning but there would only be a front office person up front while on the cameras they had 20+ dogs in the parks being aggressive, mounting repeatedly, and generally being wild. I even called to have my dog moved to an empty park my request was ignored twice because they were "too busy at the moment." Basically my dogs safety wasn't important. After having several other issues during the stay I contacted the corporate office and was informed that there should always be a handler present when the dogs are in the parks. I witnessed no handler in the park every single day while viewing the cameras online. My dog came back home and hasn't been his normal self and it's obvious he didn't enjoy staying at CityDog in Ballard. read more

The first time I picked my dogs up, one of them had poop all over his back like he had laid in another dogs poop. There seemed to be no attempt to clean it off. The second time I picked them up they both had poop matted to their booties, and they had just had their butts shaved so this shouldn't have happened. My dogs both came out reeking like shit. This is completely unacceptable. Both my pups had a bath over the weekend and have NEVER smelled this bad. Will not return. read more

Our dog went in for grooming and unfortunately, they cut the quick (the blood and nerve supply in the dog's toenail). When I arrived to pick him up, he was barking, which is out of character so I knew something was wrong. When I got him to the car I discovered the mistake and blood. I understand mistakes happen and probably would not write this review if they disclosed what had happen, which they did not. I took my Pomeranian here for the first time to get groomed. This place is good, the staff was friendly and I really like the atmosphere and concept. Her haircut was really lovely. But. I immediately noticed her back paw had an abrasion cause it was all red and she wasn't walking on it right. One of her nails was clipped to the point of bleeding. She already has a huge fear of people touching her paws because this has happened elsewhere and she's traumatized from it. I'm really disappointed this has happened to her again because it's already difficult enough taking her to the salon with her being a nervous pup. Next time is only gonna be worse ): she looks cute, but she's really upset and won't stop licking it. I was also considering doggy daycare, but the barking is non-stop so that's a no. Boarded my pup here for 10 days, and was pretty upset about how he was returned. He clearly had not slept well, as he is normally quite energetic and playful, but instead was asleep his ENTIRE first 48 hours home. Not only that, but his face was also caked in tears -- so much so that his fur came out in chunks when I washed his face. He has very mild allergies, and usually barely tears at all, yet came back to me with his eyes streaming. Lastly, but certainly not least, he was returned with a nasty foot infection. I have no idea how this went unnoticed, as the only thing he did when he wasn't sleeping was lick and bite at his infected foot. And for all this, I paid only slightly short of $1000. I used citydog for grooming services and did not like it at all. I tried them 3 times and only the first time, they did a good job of grooming my dog. The other two times they cut him sooooo short that I was unable to recognize him. And the groomer did this even after me repeatedly asking her to just give the hair trim and keep his teddy bear looks. Another thing I have noticed is, my dog comes back really sad and quiet as if he was ill-treated. I have attached some pics to show the difference. I was looking into this place for my three dogs. I walk by all the time to observe to see if if I liked it or not and decided I would never bring any pet to this place after an encounter I personally had with the staff. Last week I observed an employee lose control of his anger and banged the gate that separates the dogs with his fist super loud. He was so mad and all the dogs were scared of him. I went in to see what he was so upset about and why he was giving me dirty looks and shaking his head at me. He said the dogs get loud and it's hard to control them. I told him he shouldn't work with animals then if that's the case. I asked for a supervisor and the person who said she was the supervisor covered up for the angry employee. I'm so glad I saw the real goings on of this place before thinking of bringing my dogs here. Thank god there are windows on this place and anyone can go observe prior to deciding to bring their dogs there for themselves like I did. read more
