Great class and facility but this is not COVID safe. Machines are very close together! Lots of cardio and mask wearing is impossible.

The class was tough and I was super sweaty by the end. I felt the burn and my muscles were shaking. Such a good workout.

The first week was…read morefantastic -- coaches Uriah Johnson (Head Coach & Community Manager), Krishna Pate, and Nathan Eldering were all amazing. They listened to my wrist injury (doctor's orders: no exercises on my hands), made thoughtful modifications, and ensured I still got a great workout. Unfortunately, my last class on July 22 with Erik Payne was a very different experience. From the start, his tone felt curt and dismissive when I explained my injury. He adjusted my setup in a way that made my modifications harder, and when I tried to get his attention, his responses felt snappy rather than supportive. Even after reminding him multiple times about my limitation, he continued to suggest exercises I couldn't do, and when I chose safe alternatives, he questioned me sharply in front of others. I became so uncomfortable that I left the class early and decided not to return for the remainder of my pass. It's disappointing because the other coaches were fantastic and truly made me feel welcomed and cared for. I hope this feedback helps ensure all clients -- especially those with injuries -- receive the same level of understanding and support.

I was able to take advantage of the first free class through a Yelp Elite experience. I am grateful…read moreI got to experience this studio and workout because I was hesitant. I do not like rowing. I am a huge/daily Orangetheory Fitness workout gal. However, this class changed my mind. I immediately was drawn into the class because of the lighting and music. I felt like I was in a nightclub! I was pleasantly surprised every rower had a towel. I am a sweater and always have to have a towel for workouts. I appreciate that they provide them! I have had too many workouts when I forget a towel and then I have to pat myself with paper towels from the bathroom. I am unsure if my class was actually what a class is like because I think they tried to give us a tasting of everything / different types of areas to focus on. Thankfully it was not continuous rowing. I would not like that. The longest row was a 3 minute row for distance at the end. We got off the rower three times for different exercises with dumbbells. There was standing exercises, laying on the mat then the final was core work. Overall, I liked it more than I thought. There is a lot of playing with the lights. For all out rows they turn the lights off and everyone goes hard and the music pumping! I love that! Throughout the workout there is a screen that shows the stats of the class - average of strokes per minute, average of time for 500 meter row, and the total meters rowed of the class. These stats were how they pace rowing at the same time - following the instructor. During this class I had three coaches: Anna, Aoife, and Hope. They were all awesome and brought different types of energy! I am intrigued to attend some of their themed classes. I love a theme with music and dress up! I do not like rowing enough to continue with an unlimited membership. However, I am considering attending maybe once a week (4 class pack per month membership). If you like unique workout classes (and especially if you like rowing) this is something you have to do!

The coaches are amazing and super knowledgeable if you have any issues or questions. Before I started at Row House I hated working out and now I look forward to every time I go to the studio.

I got to try this the first time when my friend was subbing, and she totally kicked my butt. The class was a great workout on a Sunday morning and left me sore for honestly 3 days. She kicked my butt in that class. The second time, I took it with Christy. She was a such a fun and awesome instructor, really enjoyed her a lot! I think with my prior training and cardio workouts got me to keep up with her class and not stay sore for too long! (Thanks Alyssa for the heads up on these classes haha). I love how cute the studio is. Very clean and simple. The decor is small and adorable for the studio and provides pretty much everything that you need. Only need to bring your own towel and water bottle and you're good to go! If I'm actually in RVA during the weekends, you bet your butt I'll be taking a morning class again here!

I would recommend the Groupon because you'll definitely want to go more than once! I had my first class with Christy, the owner, and already have my next two scheduled. The classes are small which is nice after the year we've had and it allows for one on one assistance from the instructor. After a fairly lazy pregnancy and recovery I needed and appreciated the extra instruction! With that being said I was nervous for my first class but Christy made it easy to modify the steps. I was still covered in sweat and burned 500 calories before I left. As a new client I felt super welcome and can't wait to go back!

My local YMCA (John Rolfe) closed recently and we don't really like Tuckahoe because it is usually…read moretoo crowded. So we checked out acac. This is a fitness Mecca! Here's my impression after the first week: Signing up for membership was challenging. The price we were quoted over the phone was different than what we were told when we showed up to join. And actually we had an appointment with the membership director and he was on vacation and everyone from membership was gone so one of the front desk attendants gave us a tour. They also gave us a pass to the weekend to make up for the debacle. When we showed up on Saturday we met with someone in membership and that's when the pricing changed because what we were quoted only covered 3 people. So we paid extra for the fourth and our fifth couldn't join because the cost of their membership was too high and she is a student (my daughter). She is 26 so that's why she has to have her own membership. I get it. Also the hot tub and rooftop pool is extra, so be aware. They also have a Recovery area that includes infrared saunas and cold plunge, plus a variety of other equipment. That's an extra charge too, but the first month is free so you can check it out. Other than that miscommunication, it's been pretty seamless. Every staff member I've encountered has been professional and super helpful. Kudos to the center for hiring great people. Any kind of exercise you could possibly want to do is under the roof of acac or at one of their other facilities. The classes and yoga studio is top notch. I've done a few classes and also yoga, signed up for the egym and have used the hot tub, sauna, plunge, etc., and it's all been good. It's only a week in and I feel right at home and motivated to work out every day. I still have so much more to try! I love that I can do something different everyday so I don't get bored. Joining acac costs more but so far it's worth it for us.
