The comfort and value factor is superior ($10), Mike (first chair) always does an amazing job; and rarely ceases to keep you entertained.However if you are looking for a fancy hair stylist, this might not be the place for you. This is pretty much the only barber shop I go to since I've found a place that I like. I don't do anything fancy so I can't comment on the skill of the barbers. Mike is pretty entertaining though. I never have to wait more than 20 minutes when I come in. If I do have to wait longer, I usually just go eat at popeyes or dim sum next door. read more

For a basic hair cut, this is the place. Quick and simple, and relatively cheap. Nothing fancy. Read reviews here to ask for Mike (1st chair), but when I got there, there was a line to see Mike while the other guy in 2nd chair was just sitting there watching TV. I figured my hair style is simple enough and would be hard to screw up, and I didn't want to wait. So I went to the 2nd chair. I'm quite satisfied with the results. read more

I went in today to get a haircut on my lunch break, when I walk in it wasn't busy and there was this older gentleman waiting for a customer he see me and he asks if I want a haircut, I say yes and he proceeds to cut my hair. I wanted to get a skin taper and I told him. As he was cutting my hair he cut the back of my skin with the shaver he was using. I jumped because I felt that pitch but I ignored it because I thought it was just a little accident. While he was finishing my hair I felt it burn where he cut me, he didn't apologize to me or anything and when he showed me how my hair looked he tried to hid the cut so I wouldn't see it. He charged me full price $16. So I gave him $20 told him to keep the rest. When I got to my car I took a picture and I saw that the cut was huge. And on top of that no apology or acknowledgement from the guy. I didn't go back to complain because I had to go back to work. This place is a -0 out of 10 for me. read more

I really wish I could give no stars. If you identify with the LGBT community, don't bother walking in. My brother walked into the barber shop last week to get his hair cut. The barber took one look at him and said, "Are you a boy or a girl, we don't cut girls hair". Not only was that comment sexist, none of his damn business, or his concern but it put my brother in the position to say, "I am a boy." The barber then proceeded to tell him that he looked like a girl so they wouldn't cut his hair. My brother is transgender, identifies as male, and has a barber cut already. It was completely unprofessional and illegal to refuse service to a paying customer. I proceeded to call to see if me, someone who identifies as female could get my undercut shaved. They said I could come in at any time to get my hair cut, as someone who identifies as female. I brought up what they said to my brother and argued the fact that they told HIM they wouldn't cut his hair because he looked like a female, when in reality they wouldn't cut it because he is transgender. That is completely unacceptable in my book. You will never be getting business from me, any of my family, or any of my connections in he beauty world. read more

My experience here prompted me to write my first yelp review ever. I read the great Yelp reviews and headed over for a walk-in haircut with Mike. My hair was a mess before I came in and all I knew was I wanted a straight fade with the top trimmed. Mike was helpful when asked on providing some pointers on hairstyle. While he was cutting, it was obvious he knew his stuff and was very attentive to detail. Typically I don't like the forced conversations you sometimes endure, but Mike was crackin jokes and made the process thoroughly enjoyable. My haircut was perfect and for under $15, you can't go wrong. I will definitely be back! read more

I definitely give them a 5 star. Price/quality wise it could be the best barber I've had in recent years. I did a Google search for best Men's haircut in Sunnyvale, and Yelp's reviews came up second. So I read them all, and headed for the shop. Yes, I asked for Mike upon my entrance, who was at seat #1. he kindly welcomed me and cut my hair. He was very very friendly, and most importantly, he did a great jib cutting my hair. No doubt that I go back to him for my future haircuts. A point though, if you are looking for a stylish saloon, this is not the place. But if you want a good/decent-price/quick/friendly haircut in Sunnyvale area, this is THEE place. read more

After reading the great reviews, I jumped at getting my next hair cut here. It was a BIG MISTAKE. I should have sat and watched the barber cut hair or asked for one of the guys mentioned in the reviews. Here's what I told the barber (probably the fastest, easiest cut): -- I'm trying to grow my hair long so don't cut any length. Just thin it out using the thinning shears and clean up the strays. Here's what I wind up with: -- He cuts tonnes of length and I wind up with about half the length I walked in with (note that I told him I was trying to grow it long). The stying is all screwed-up. Mind you I had a lot of hair before so it looks weird with it short. HE SCREWED UP IMMEDIATELY AND STARTED CHOPPING LENGTH! The barber at Civic Square Barber (don't care for his name, old guy 2nd from the door) was typical of the barbers I've had all over the country (a graduate of Supercuts). He understood english, but couldn't/wouldn't follow the simplest of directions. The barber at Seoul Barber Shop is much more skilled and better at styling. Both of them can't follow direction, but then the barber at Seoul Barber Shop can't speak english. Simply put: If you have and want the typical asian haircut, then you'll be fine. If you want and have something else, then you're going to wind up with the typical asian haircut. Civic Square Barber is your next choice when Supercuts has a line. read more

I've been going here for several years and have decided to find somewhere else to get my hair cut. Here's why: There are 4 chairs in this shop and it seems like there are between 4-6 barbers who share them. The one closest to the front window does good work, but he talks nonstop and smokes, so he smells bad. The one furthest from the window is by far the best barber and you can expect to wait for him. The two in the middle only do one kind of hair cut -- no matter what you say or ask for, and they are very inconsistent. Sometimes you get a razor neck trim with hot lather and sometimes you don't -- it's a gamble. They don't speak English well and don't listen well either. Each barber has his own cell phone so NO ONE wants to answer the business phone when you call! Lastly, while their hours are posted, I've waited outside more than once for 30-45 minutes for someone to show up in the morning. That is unacceptable. read more

I'm really sorry to have to drop the 1 star bomb on this place, but, man, I was just amazed at what happened. got called to the chair (got the old guy can't remember his name). he asked me what I wanted. I said that I wanted my hair to be the same length all around but I only wanted him to take off 1/2 inch. he said sure, no problem. so he whips out his clippers and shaves my head. seriously shaved...like maybe 1/4 inch of hair left on my head. and I couldn't even stop him...he just took out a huge swath of hair and it was too late. I just don't get it...if he was going to use clippers, he should have asked what length to use. was there something I was supposed to do differently? was I supposed to ask for "just a trim"? maybe I was supposed to tell him NOT to use clippers? all I know is that he took off way more than 1/2 inch. sheesh, how hard is it to get a simple guy's haircut? read more

i am using my girlfriends yelp account for this review. when i asked for a trim on top and nothing off the back and sides, one would presume that i was getting a cut with a scissors. when the old guy came at my sides straight off with a razor i nearly cried. so i sat there hoping he knew what he was doin, but apparently the only haircut he seems to know is the old faithful "short back and sides." not only was it too late to stop him scalping me because he had shaved half the side of my head off but i had to sit there fuming for the next 15 minutes while he did the only haircut he has ever done in his life. if you like this style, and want your girlfriend to comment on how big your ears are, please go to civic square barbers. if not i reccomend using your girlfriends hairdresser for 50 bucks a pop. i give this place 1 star because they flip you around in the chair to watch sports on t.v, plus a scaldy haircut here only costs 12 bucks. but trust me guys...IT AINT WORTH IT!! read more

In nearly 50 years on this planet, I've had 6 doctors and 3 barbers. Mike's Dad, Pham was my 2nd barber, and Mike is now my 3rd. He cuts to absolute perfection on every hair with focused attention. If I could rate this place 0 stars I would... I walked in with about 6 inches of hair on the top and about 4 on the sides. It was very messy and almost looked like a mullet so I asked the man to just clean up my sides... Do not touch the top and don't try to shorten my hair.... Just clean up the sides.... What does he do? The top of my hair is now half as long, and the sides look like a buzz cut. I said clean up the sides, not give me a crew cut. This really **cken pissed me off. Never going there again. Horrible waste of hard earned money. Can't believe it. read more
