I went in for a walk in for a quick low taper fade as it was my first time in the shop. Their was no greeting, no one checked up. I sat in their "waiting char" for 10 mins. Still nobody said anything, barbers went outside to smoke, guest were fast seated as I'm assuming they had an appointment, to which one guest walked in for an appointment, a barber who was already cutting hair greeted the guest and asked if they had an appointment. Almost like I was invisible, I felt like they didn't need my money so I just left after 13 mins of not being appointed. Would not recommend. I went once and it was fine. Second time booked with the same barber because I liked his work. I get there and I'm not acknowledged or anything so I sit down. I sat for 15 minutes before anyone acknowledged me. Mind you my appointment was at 4:15. Other clients walked in and they got greeted right away. So at the 15 minute mark another barber acknowledged me and said if I had an appointment. I say yes with Iván. I look over at iván and he's still working on his client. He looks like he's about to finish. So I say whatever I'm already here. So I wait a few more minutes. I waited five more. So 20 minutes in total. I finally decided to walk out after waiting 20 minutes. Because he looks done then has a conversation with the guy in the chair and another barber across from him. That's what made me walk out. Without an acknowledgment of my existence from my barber. He has the nerve to text me "hey bro I'm ready" when I'm halfway down the street. Moral of the story if you are paying for a service ($55) I believe you should at least be acknowledged or told that they need a few more minutes to finish up. Like isn't that basic customer service? Dropped by today for a haircut at Culture Cutz after driving by here for the past couple of months. Located right by Tea&Cream on The Alameda. Parking can be tricky on the street, but there's a small lot around the corner at the Chapman intersection. Walked in without an appointment at around 4:30pm and got seated immediately by Victor. The cut took about an hour and resulted in a really clean skin-fade. Everyone seems to be independent employees so call into the shop to see who's available. Grab your barber's business card to contact them directly. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the cut. It's my first time in a shop since the pandemic / initial shutdowns. Felt safe, very chill vibes, everyone just doin their thing. My cut was $45, cash and Venmo accepted. Definitely pricy side compared to your average Supercuts or the salon down the street (Great Cuts near the Safeway is only $18 and was my regular go-to pre-pandemic), but pretty in range for barbershops that specialize in fades. I've seen some barbershops in SJ that go up to $60. In a pinch, emergency, or special occasion, I'd definitely schedule another cut and return. But my hair grows back pretty fast so I can't justify dropping that much every week and a half. With the pandemic going on, I've just had my brother cut my hair for free after watching some YouTube tutorials and a $50 clipper from Amazon. . Solid shop, quality cut, cool vibes. I'll probably be back at some point, but not anytime soon. 3/5 for overall value, +1 for service and quality. read more

My rating is based on 2 out of 5 bad experiences I've had here and the booking app called "Booksy." Culture Cutz had two locations but only one appears on the app. It causes some confusion for people and me. I once booked through the app, but then the barber texted me a few mins before my appointment and told to show up at the other location which was different than the one indicated on the app.  Both of my negative experiences were with Chiquis. I don't recommend booking with him. He has a poor time management. He postponed one of my appointments and canceled another because he forgot to block his time out appropriately. The first time he did this I thought I was an honest mistake so I booked with him again. The first time he pushed back my appointment 45 mins. I was fine with this because I live close and had time. The second time I booked him on the app at 9am and he didn't show up and I had to get to work right after my cut. I called and texted him and he didn't respond until 9:40am saying he didn't block his time in the app and he wouldn't actually be in the shop until 3pm. Also, I waited until 9:30am outside the shop (in front of the door) and the shop owner was inside. He didn't come by to offer to help contact Chiquis or anything.  Presumably because they're all independent barbers. The owner just let me stand outside waiting. It's an okay place. Chill vibes. Clean aesthetics. $45 cuts. I don't recommend to ppl that like customers service or have busy work/class schedules and need dependable and timely barbers. They haven't worked out a good system for that. Also, if you're booking on the app make sure you're at the location you actually want or text your barber to be sure. @cleanluuc (on insta) is a great barber. Very dependable and on time. If you're late to his appointments he'll tell you and can't seat you if you're really late and he's booked. Other good barbershops, if you want to check out, are House of Barbers or Faded on Capitol Exy. Edit/update: After writing this review, Chiquis texted me and I've attached the screenshot of his response. I'm attaching it because it demonstrates the lack of customer service and overall service you might expect when you book with Chiquis. I wish he would have apologized, offered to rebook me at a convenient time, or offered a discount to make up for it, however, at this point neither he or the manager have done so.
