The agent, Doris was extremely rude, unprofessional, and unorganized. The townhome we were supposed to be looking at was actually still occupied so she couldn't let us in there. So she takes us to the one next door. There is no electricity, it smells weird, we're in there with our two 5 year old boys. Pretty soon we're all coughing and I notice canisters on the floors of the rooms. The house was being fumigated that day and she let us in there. The whole time all she said was "maintenance is supposed to put a sign on the door" and she made some comments about my son's cough being gross. No apology at any time. When we decide we're leaving she just dismisses us with a "alright sorry about that" and walks off. I had to call poison control and they were texting me every hour to make sure we were ok. I completely DO NOT recommend this company to anyone. read more

Possibly the worst rental company in the world. They don't work with you at all there's no grace period on your rent so as for me I get paid the fifth and the 20th of every month so I am forced to pay my rent on the 20th. Their maintenance department is horrible, I had black mold in my basement for 60+ days I had to pay out-of-pocket for mold remediation send them the tests and still took them another month to get somebody out to do some shoddy work that needed to be redone several weeks later. After submitting my SO and my application we get stuck with an agent who cancels the showing appointment the day of because the tenants still live in the duplex CJ Real Estate was trying to rent out from underneath them, stalls in processing our application, never checked our credit reports, and never contacted the apartment complex I lived in to verify the information given to them. They're just in it to collect the application fee of $40 per adult plus the $3-4 online processing fee. Scam artists. read more

NEVER RENT HERE!! As a current tenant, I would never rent from a company like this ever again. Terrible customer service, 0 communication skills (which, from reading other reviews it's good to see that I'm not the only one) and they are liars on top of everything. For the past 3 years I have lived here and complained about the literal forest that is my back yard. Before the lease was even signed, one stipulation was that these trees be trimmed/removed. The agent agreed! One year rolls around and it never happens so my husband takes a stab at it, which he shouldn't have to! The next year rolls around and they grow back quickly, but still no word from the rental office. I call atleast once a week just to encounter voicemail after voicemail and no one ever calls back. Finally, when someone did answer the phone, they want to tell me that this kind of work is not covered by the owner, but the tenant is responsible. I tell him that we agreed to this before even signing the contract. So with that in mind, the manager approves the removal of the brush. NEVER HAPPENS. What did happen, (one year later in spring 2019, after three years of hounding) was that they sent contractors out to remove one measily tree next to our house, no where near what I was referring to. I asked the contractors why they were removing one insignificant tree when there's a whole damn Forrest in my back yard, and they said they were only following orders and that the landlord probably didn't assign them to clear the trees I actually wanted removed because that would have been an expensive job. Fast forward to April 2019, we have officially been 3-year tenants and I have never been more unhappy. They never maintain properties and the tree situation is only one complaint of many regarding upkeep of these properties. We are good tenants. We are quiet and pay rent on time. But today I won't be doing that. I want to know my rights! I want to take my "rent" money and place it towards this situation which has persisted for YEARS. read more

Been here almost a year. Our lease is over in June and we are moving out. They put our unit online for lease. We get emails that showings are scheduled about two days before an appointment. They're office says the website sends the messages automatically but I SHOULD get a phone call at least 24 hours before if there really is a client coming by. There are several set for tomorrow but no call yet. Stay away from here if you want a quiet place to live. Neighbor kids play between our place that faces another unit with 20 feet of concrete between us. Like 12-15 rude kids screaming, fighting, bouncing balls, riding bikes and doing most of this on our porch. My daughter is an adult and I have no grandkids. I can't wait to get to our new place. Also told we have to pay to clean our carpets and provide receipts to say we did this. And we have to treat the place for fleas (because of our cats who never had fleas) also with a receipt provided. I just returned from viewing one of their listed properties and I was astounded at the horrible condition. The property is located at 22 Glen Arbor rd kansas city Mo. 64114. The entire place has a strong dog urine smell and have never been cleaned. Abandoned furniture as well as appliances from the previous renter. All the utilities were off so no way to check mechanicals. CJ Real Estate wasted my time & was pressuring me to apply. I would not trust them with any personal information. I guess I'll start by listing the pros. The ceilings were high and the amenities were okay for a decent price. Okay time for the cons! CJ Real Estate is full of slum lords. When I first toured the apartment in the Deer Creek apartments in Grain Valley, things seemed great. Storage was lacking, but all else looked pretty good. I put down my deposit, paid entirely too much (non-refundable) money for my cat, and was set to move in. Shortly afterwards they contacted me and told me another unit with my ideal move in date was available and it was bigger for the same price, so I naively took them up on the offer. What they failed to mention was that the previous tenant was an indoor chain smoker. By the time I moved in, it was too late and they played dumb. They acted as though they couldn't smell anything, despite the fact that CAR VENT AIR FRESHENERS were stuck in every air vent. I contacted them multiple times about having someone come out and professionally clean the tobacco residue and smoke smell and never even received a response. Don't even get me started on the lack of regulation of the parking lot and how I often did not have a spot to park in because they allowed tenants to store unused vehicles in the lot. After a year of trying every cleaning method available, I moved out with all of my personal belongings (furniture included) smelling like I was an avid smoker. Then proceeded to have to wait 90 days to get my measly deposit back, even though I benefitted that apartment more over the year I was living there. Slum. Lords. Mark my words. read more

If I could rate this lower than 1 star I would. Their office turn over rate is very high and I would talk to one person about my problems and the next week a new person was working there. It took them over 6 months to fix my broken porch, that was broken before I moved it AND was broke by one of their mowers. The only way they ever did anything was if I threatened to call someone myself and just withhold that amount of money from their rent. Poor communication to tenants. They would email only one of my roommates and one of the previous tenants whose name wasn't even on the lease anymore if they had an issue with our rent. They were prudent on getting their money but not on giving it back. When I moved into my room it was disgusting and gross and they never fixed anything in the room. This is the worst rental property company in the history of renting. No one ever returns your phone calls. I lived in the place of residence for four years, and the company never came out and inspected after they took over from St. Louis Investors Alliance. They have no sense of urgency when it comes to maintenance issues, as I was without heat for two weeks in the winter and without cooling for two (almost three) weeks in the summer. You have to threaten them with coming up to the office before they will send someone out, and instead of fixing the problem, it's simply a "band aid" repair. I fail to understand that how can you pile up a laundry list of things owed from a customer, when you never inspected the property to begin with. Please stay away from these rejects. 1 star is to high for this atrocious company. 3 months of complaining about the ac not working and all they have done is recharge it and call it good. We have been stuck with utility bills over 3x what they normally are and they refuse to properly fix the ac. It has consistently been around 80 degrees in our apartment and i am now in the process of a lawsuit for neglect. God knows i wont get my deposit back after i move out after reading all the other reviews, when we moved in the apartment had a mile long list of things to fix and the agent told us they would send someone out to fix them immediately. A year after moving in the apartment is in the exact same condition and absolutely deplorable. We have had a cat since we moved in 10 years ago and paid our pet fee and they said that "we have an illegal cat". Then instead of apologizing about the illegal cat comment and assumption, she said that it must have not gotten filed correctly. What an unprofessional fiasco. Let us live in peace. We pay our rent. We keep quiet and to ourselves. Geez. Don't you have an ac to fix somewhere? Oh wait! Mine. Every single year. Can't you just fix it right? We have to call multiple times to try to get anything fixed. We called on Wednesday and had to call back Thursday and they said no one had gotten the message so then we waited until Monday to have it fixed. After applying and waiting for 2 weeks to hear back about my application, I received an approval letter with no instructions on where or how to pay the deposit. Ryan was my agent and he was prompt at responding to emails and getting the information that I needed. After telling him that I was unclear on where or how to pay the deposit he said he would have someone call me. I waited. two days later I decided to try to figure it out for myself after having reservations as to whether or not I really wanted to rent from them. I figured out how to pay the deposit and sent the confirmation to Ryan. At 7pm on a Sunday evening I get an email from Stephanie indicating that someone had paid the deposit before I had. So not only did they make me wait two weeks for an application process that I was assured would only take 48 hours but they also allowed me to pay a deposit for a unit that was no longer available. Now I am waiting for my deposit to be refunded. In the course of the 4 weeks of dealing with them, they do not answer the phone, or return phone calls. Ryan was helpful and eager to try to resolve the situation but there wasn't much that he could do. I do not blame him. I hope he is valued and well compensated there because the way that they conduct business is sad. read more

The staff have been very rude and misleading with us. Would not recommend renting a property managed by them. I called them about the process for moving out early when I started shopping to buy a home and they said I just needed to give 60 days notice and I would only be responsible for utilities until it had a new tenant or my lease was up. With that in mind, I put an offer on a house and then called to let them know when I was planning to move out. It took forever to get in touch with someone this time and when we finally did they said that the person I spoke to told me wrong and I would be responsible for rent in addition to the utilities until they moved in a new tenant. They were very rude and told my wife that the financial burden this would cause wasn't their fault and we shouldn't have started buying a house before our lease was up. read more

My first impression of CJ Realty has not been a good one. I made an appoint to look at a property, 2 hours prior they cancel because property is still occupied. I rescheduled for 2 weeks later and this time the agent fails to show up for the appointment. I call the office and leave a message, recording says they will return my call within one business day. I have yet to hear from anyone. How do you do business with a company that does not communicate? I really like this property and hate to say it but I have given up on one. Avoid this company at all costs. They rushed me through my pre-sign inspection, and the agent acted like an ABSOLUTE child when I started inspecting EVERYTHING (I've been burned before, and have learned my lesson). They were slow as molasses getting maintenance to my place in Warrensburg. After ONE week, my sink started leaking so bad, I had to shut the water off. I reported it, but after a week and a half of waiting, I just went to the local Lowes and fixed it myself. Very rude customer service over the phone. I scheduled a move out date, and the person who was supposed to do the walk-through with me cancelled at the last minute. I could not wait, since it was a military related move. I received a bill 3 weeks later for the carpet not being clean... even though I left the receipt from the professional carpet cleaner. Speaking of the military move... they WERE very "accepting" of my early termination, though that is probably due to it being the LAW. Note that the Warrensburg lots are MOSTLY inhabited by college students and young military folks. Not to talk badly about them... but it is NOT a place to move if you value a quite neighborhood. Snow removal is a joke. Seriously... it would be cheaper to buy a house, and pay the mortgage on it. Look elsewhere online about this company... you will get the same stories. read more

Wow! I don't think I can tell people how disappointed I am enough times. I found a property I very much thought I would love online. I promptly called CJ Real Estate so I could schedule a viewing ASAP. When I call a woman answers the phone, she doesn't even tell me her name. After telling her about the apartment I would like to see she says "Hmm.. We have an application in process for that apartment.. But it doesn't look like it will go through, sure, we can schedule a viewing" (WOW! How unprofessional?? What if I knew that other person that put in an application?!) so we schedule a viewing for two days later, she takes my first name and that's it. No phone number (and still doesn't tell me her name!) So two days later I show up promptly for our 10am appointment at the apartment. By 10:10 when she is still not at the apartment I call the office. The same woman answers the phone and then informs me that she left me a voicemail stating we would need to reschedule because she scheduled another person an appointment somewhere else during our appointment time (okay, sure, things come up, I get it) but I have no voicemail or missed call from her... Hmm. So she then informs me that she has an out of state number for me (funny, I've never had an out of state number or called that office from any number but my own) and she isn't able to even tell me how she got that number. Now, I find it rude that she didn't show up to our appointment or even send an associate to the appointment if she couldn't get ahold of me, but I tried to be understanding. She states that she can meet me the next day at 9:30 to view it after she moves some things around and that she will call/text me if she is unable to keep this appointment time. I hear nothing from her through the night/next morning so I go to our appointment. I get to our 9:30 appointment, again, promptly. She is nowhere to be seen. By 9:45 I call the office again. This time it's a different woman, who can't find my appointment anywhere and when she asked me who it was with I couldn't even tell her, because ONCE AGAIN, she hasn't told me her name (even after I asked!). The lady says she will track down my agent and have them call me.... I never get a call. 15 minutes later I get a text from my agent apologizing and stating that she wasn't able to move anything around. Now, obviously she had my correct number but she didn't contact me, once again. At that point I look up the company online and 99% of what I see are bad reviews. I tell the agent that I feel we should just part ways at that point so I can go with an agency that I feel I can rely on. She then texts me back and calls me "hun" (OH MY GOSH, HOW UNPROFESSIONAL CAN YOU BE?! I'm an adult who is needing a home, not your "hun"). She goes on and on about how these have just been mix ups and all the reviews online are from past renters that have been evicted & she has had hundreds of happy renters and she would like to get a chance to show me they are not a bad company. After much convincing I decide to give her the benefit of the doubt and give her one last try. She says that she has something to do early Saturday morning but that she will keep the rest of her day open for me to view this apartment and I just need to contact her when I am available. I agree. Here comes Saturday, she texts me once her appointment is over and asks if I would like to see the apartment. I respond some time later, because I also had something to do during the morning. When I respond and ask if she is able to meet later that day she tells me she doesn't know if she will be able to come out to that part of town today. But, from my understanding she was going to keep her Saturday open to come see the apartment with me and show me "how great their company and work ethic is". She tells me she will text me when she knows if she'll be able to make it out to this part of town again that day. I haven't heard from her since that text. To me, this is three strikes just on my wasted time alone. But then we factor in the unprofessional attitude and lies and you now have someone that will never rent from your company and will steer everybody she can away from your company. If this is how they treat people who are just prospective renters I can't even imagine how they treat you once they have your money. STAY AWAY. read more

I lived in an apartment leased through them for almost 8 years and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that they are the most corrupt, dishonest, unprofessional, and unorganized business I have ever dealt with in my life. While renting from them it was incredibly hard to communicate with them and get them to perform maintenance even after countless requests. After finding I house to move into I gave them notice of my intent to vacate and spent hours cleaning it until it was in even better condition than when I moved in. But nearly a month later I received a "Final Bill" from them claiming over $1,100 in damages to the apartment including a $400 cleaning bill (the floor is entirely tile btw) and a charge of over $300 for 6 mini blinds that were in perfect condition when I left. I would never ever recommend anyone in any circumstance to rent from them and hope others heed my warning when I tell you that they are bad news! read more

This is an OK company to deal with....as long as you don't need anything or don't ever need to speak with someone. I am pretty self sufficient in my rental unit. Have been here for several years, never really needed to talk to anyone or have any issues. This past month, I received my lease agreement 3 days before it was expected to expire. Of course the rent went up just as it does every year. I kindly asked for it to stay the same as I was getting it 3 days before the lease ended, I had already paid my next month, and I am a good tenant and keep the property in good shape. E-mails, phone calls, etc, still never hear back. The only correspondence I get is every time I send them an e-check for rent, they send me an email (or 2) pressuring you to pay through their online system, which of course costs extra. When I move, I will definitely look else where first before using them again. read more
