I am going to give this place a 3.5. In the past, we tried it and I was not impressed. We did not return until recently with a family member who wanted to eat close to his home. This time, I was left with a much better impression. I started with the summer beer. It was pretty good and refreshing, like a Blue Moon. The porter, or stout my husband tried was not bad, but it stated it had coffee and chocolate notes, which I did not taste. Still, I would return for a pint. I had the Big Jim, obviously reminiscent of the Big Boy Slim Jim. That was one of my favorite childhood sandwiches, and I feel they did it justice. I enjoyed it, and it was a nice portion. It was well made and tasted similar to Big Boy, very nostalgic. I got the truffle parm fries. They had a nice crispiness and a good flavor. It was a good portion. I also got a side salad, nothing fancy, but hit the spot. The ranch was very good. As far as the other food. The mac and cheese was finished by my child, which is great, but it was such small portion for the price, most places give you twice as much. The sliders looked good, but were so tiny. The sweet potato fries were nice, they went well with the ranch. I think our family member was disappointed with the wrap sandwich. I did not try it, so I am not sure, but it looked like it could have been filled with more. I took the Big Jim home since I had a lot to share with my other child who also really liked it. We stop here every time we visit my Grandma. Love the vibe. Beer is good, mixed drinks are good, service is usually good and food is hit or miss. My boyfriend ordered a burger medium today but it came out well. Chicken in the chicken Caesar wrap wasn't seasoned and was very dry if there wasn't Caesar dressing in the bite. I grew up around Detroit but I reside in Jacksonville Florida now. My wife and I flew up to the Detroit area for a concert along with a few days with friends and family. We had a great meal with great service elsewhere, then went on to CJs so we could play Golden Tee as a group, have some drinks and continue enjoying the night. From the moment we arrived, our server made it clear that we were a bother to her. I have not one clue what we did wrong. As far as I'm aware, we were all very polite through the whole evening. During our first interaction, we let her know that we'd eaten elsewhere and that we were there for the game & drinks but we might want food eventually. Not long after that, she came to snap up our menus and said "looks like you're not gonna need these!". My thought was "if we were before, we sure don't now", but we continued enjoying our night anyway. I cannot stress enough that we were not bothering anyone else in their brewery. We were all very confined to the one table by the Golden Tee machine. Yet every time any of us asked for drinks the server acted like it was a big inconvenience. Such odd behavior. Her and the rest of the staff weren't done yet though. As far as we're aware, they close at 11pm. Around 10:30pm, the staff started slamming chairs and tables around, loudly. It was such childish behavior. What were they trying to prove? That they're upset polite people were keeping to theirselves in the corner for a few hours while also giving them money? As I said before, we reside in Jacksonville Florida but as a Detroit native I am bothered that we wasted any money in this place. In town for a few days and hungry for pizza & beer. Searched pizza brewery and CJ's came up. Menu looked great so we gave it a shot. Wow were we impressed! We each ordered square pizza and they were SO good. The crust reminded us all of the delicious personal pan Pizzas from late 70's Pizza Hut!! Crusty, chewy and served piping hot!! Just ordered food around 9:20, almost 2 hours before closing. Completely rushed my order made me a burger well done with no flavor could barely eat it. Had my girlfriend ordered a steak medium rare, it was made tough again with no flavor or seasoning what so ever. Also when I was ordering like baked potato or certain things, they wouldnt say sides would be additional toppings. Even for the burger every single piece was charged as a side. My bill ran up to 120$. I was shocked but then I still thought maybe the food would be good completely disgusting. Who would want to eat a burger or a steak with no flavoring. At first I thought ok maybe they just messed up the burger but a 40$ steak as well? This place is a joke, do not order carry out and I wouldn't suggest eating there unless you're ready for your waitress to remake it. Next time explain what you're charging and that sides is additional pay and definitely add flavor to the food. I'm very disappointed drove30 mins and paid 120$ for this. I have been a customer here for several years until I discovered that the restaurant was overcharging for menu items during an extremely busy weekend. When I brought it to the manager's attention I was told it was no big deal and it was a system error, not her fault. It escalated into an argument after which I was asked to leave. Big place and huge parking lot. Service was prompt and friendly. Yelp has a free app and even though they didn't know about it anymore they honored it. Beer was good- no tag a brew though. Had the captain crunch chicken and it was tasty. It can with a healthy portion of rice and broccoli. My companion had the Hawaiian pizza with picked jalepeno. Their beer may be great, but the carryout service absolutely sucks. I ordered a dozen times from them about 3 years ago...they got every single order wrong, so we stopped going. This week, the place down the street (where I switched to) went out of business, so I thought, "I wonder if CJ's has improved at all," and tried a simple carryout order from them again (a burger with lettuce and extra mustard). Same old same old. If you are looking for carryout...I'd recommend going ANYWHERE else. PS never mind the excuses from the manager which are certain to follow. You have ONE JOB and you screwed it up. CJs is on our list of places to eat when we don't have a specific place in mind. Good food, friendly service, and accommodates different size groups. The food is good, and they have their own spin on most of the dishes. My normal meal is a CJs brewed IPA beer, a bowl of soup and a burger I split with my wife. The beer is good. The soup is good. And the burger is good. They offer three or four options for fries. We have also had their pizza, which is nice if we have a larger group with kids. The host was cheerful and inviting (it was her birthday), the ambience was typical for the kind of establishment, the patio looked amazing but we couldn't chance the bees. I really like the warm and inviting atmosphere of CJs! I popped in recently and firstly loved all the holiday lights they had up. It's also conveniently located right near Jax car wash and wonderland bowling so it could be a fun night out after having a nice meal here. I noticed they have daily specials posted on the outside of the front door which is neat too. The service was really good and prompt. I like the variety on the menu, my only qualm was I got the salmon as my entree and I could've sworn it said at the bottom of the menu a side salad upcharge was $3 but I was charged $7 I realized later and it was a small salad. The salmon was a tad salty but still edible. I highly recommend the Brussels sprouts here as the mix of agave and sriracha is an amazing combination and the portion size was great to share amongst 2-3 people. I would return as the menu has something for everyone, the wine was good; and it has tvs for the sports watchers in your friend/ fam group. read more

A friend and I had decided to meet up at a restaurant up the road but a misplaced reservation had us scrambling for outdoor seating. Actually, she did the scrambling because I was unfamiliar with the area. However, sometimes life works out. She and her husband have visited this restaurant previously and enjoyed meals here. Given the lunch hour, I thought the patio would be filled but we were one of the first ones here and she picked out the best spot: shaded and in a corner, away from the other guests. We shared a menu because the restaurant did not want to clean more than one but since I can read upside-down, I quickly narrowed down my choices between the build-your-own burger and the short rib grilled cheese. Both sounded fantastic. My friend did make the choice more difficult when she informed me that the pizzas were great here. The grilled cheese, with the thick-cut bread, won out, in the end. Who can resist that, especially with short rib? It was delicious, especially with the added pico de gallo. However, I did remove some of the jalapeno disks - there were just a bit too much for my tastes. The sandwich comes with fries but I selected the tempura-battered onion rings, available for an up-charge. Yum. Luckily, my friend got fries with her Reuben and shared them. They were as delicious as both my friend and the server attested to. The patio quickly filled up for the late-lunch crowd while the indoor dining room was sparsely populated. It was a beautiful evening and CJ's was on the list to try. Being out in the area, this was a perfect stop. We had already enjoyed a few brews at another brewery close by, and I wanted to see what all the hype was about. The parking lot was on slam. It was obvious that this is a popular spot. The first thing I noticed was the nice outdoor patio with heaters and a quaint outside bar. The inside was pretty busy, but luckily there were seats at the bar. The bartender was very bubbly and offered suggestions and poured a few samples to try. They have a fantastic Oktoberfest beer, which I would highly recommend.
