I walked into CJ's, looked around and left without ordering. That is not good. * * * I came into CJ's planning on sitting at the bar, Having a burger and a drink or three, Watching a baseball game and enjoying life. It was the Fourth of July and mid-afternoon to boot - So they weren't as fully set up as they would be on a normal day. * * * CJ's is the food and drink operation of Mel's Bowling Alley. As a Bowling Alley, Mel's looks like it is first rate. The bowling alleys in Austin are fairly lame. This place had a million alleys, a large arcade, and some of the psychedelic ultraviolet-lit alleys that make modern bowling more interesting. As a place to throw strikes, spares and gutter balls, Mel's looks pretty good. * * * However the high quality of the bowling operation does not extend to the food operation. They have two primary bars/eating areas. It being the Fourth of July on "odd hours", one of the rooms was semi-closed. The room where they actually were serving customers was pretty gross. I went to sit at the bar, The bar at literally every single stool was filthy. There were old dishes that obviously had been sitting there for quite some time. Where there were no dishes, the bar was greasy with leftover food and spills. The tables were a little better but not by much. The bartender really didn't seem to care. She was chatting with a staffer. After the staffer left, she was just hanging out. * * * If a food establishment can not be counted on to clean the public areas, How can you be sure the kitchen is not filthy as well? I was out of there, to do my eating and drinking elsewhere. * * * If you go to Mel's to bowl, Check out the food areas before you order any food from your bowling lane. If they are as dirty then as they were on the day I visited, Finish your bowling and go to a more reliable place for your snacks. read more

We went to karaoke on wednessay. They changed the seating. No tables. All high long stands with wooden stools. Very uncomfortable. They were taking out the regular tables as we entered and we stood for 20 minutes waiting. They were leaving no regular tables and we are all in our 70s. They said, sorry go sit in a booth in the back. We asked for a mabagwr and he said he would accomodate this time only. Then we ordered food and when it came out, it needed salt. They said they do not have salt. The manager came and took the food back. Then when i went to pay the tab, the food was still on the bill. There are no waiters and a long line to get a drink. i will not be gong back there again. read more

Its official, the corporation has taken over at CJ's. Menu minimized. Prices raised, quality drops significantly. So sad. Ordered nachado's with steak. Literally a shell of what they used to be. Terrible, about 1/10th of ingredients compared to one month ago. Bar was extremely limited in beers and drinks. Was a great place to go, with reasonable priced, good food. I would prefer to go to Taco Bell and I hate TB. I was afraid that when new ownership came in they would completely drop the ball. They did. Good job Brandon's!! read more

Such a fun place! I was here last spring watching March Madness with my husband. They have really good food too. I just had lunch there the other day and was delicious. Not your "normal" bowling alley food. There's shuffleboard, pool and nicer lanes in the bar if you want to bowl there. But we come for happy hour and the TVs. It's a great place close to our house to watch sporting events on that aren't televised at our place. We'll be back! read more

Food is sub par and service from the kitchen was as bad as it gets! Getting drinks at the bar was not a problem. If you just want to sit and watch TVs and enjoy a drink, it is an okay place for that. I suggest, you better not be hungry though. read more

We were here on a Sunday morning to bowl. Mel's was hosting a tourney so we got a lane in CJ's. We didn't have food or drinks so that review will be saved for another time. The bowling was great though. We had an issue with the ball return initially, but the staff fixed it promptly and we didn't have any other problems. The lanes had new balls and the scoring equipment was new and had some cool features. They have couches at the lanes in CJ's instead of chairs, which is really cool. The place also has pool tables, shuffleboard, darts and several tv's. It's a pretty good setup for a sports bar. We will be back to try out the food and drink another time. I've been a huge fan of Mel's since they opened. In more recent years I hang out at CJ's, and today my partner and I wanted to play some pool and order drinks and apps to enjoy our Saturday off together. My partner approached the bar to break a 20 so we could use the pool tables. The female employee working behind the bar glanced at him then quickly disappeared into the back. A minute later a different employee went behind the bar and my partner asked to get change for the 20. He said gruffly that the pool tables take cards now. Oh, okay, cool, that's a change from the many other times we've come here, but that's completely fine. But the pool tables only accepted bills. We awkwardly inspected both tables, then walked out of CJs confused and disappointed. Maybe the gentleman meant that they no longer accepted cash at the bar. But he had zero hospitality and didn't make any effort to be helpful, and ruined our plans for our date today. I've never felt more unwelcome as a customer. I guess the other reviews are right, this place has changed for the worst. :( read more

They did not give us one of the meals we ordered. When we brought it to their attention they lied and said "our manager personally brought it to your table". We are well aware of what we ordered and did not receive. They did not offer any compensation and continued to roll their eyes at us when trying to get a refund. Which they did not give us. CJ's catered my wedding last weekend, the food was wonderful and the staff were friendly, prompt and worked so hard to make our day great. we opted for brunch and their Belgian waffles and breakfast tacos were perfect. The fruit was fresh, the bacon was high quality, I could go on and on. We got so many compliments. The gentlemen who worked the event were so on top of everything, they didn't leave a single crumb behind! Absolutely recommend them! Very reasonably priced also! CJ's Catering did an awesome job catering our wedding on April 14, 2018!! We had home style appetizers and dinner for 175 guests and received compliments from everyone on how delicious everything tasted!! CJ's was easy to work with, Neire was very responsive and communicative throughout the whole process! They set up and took down the food, helped oversee our guests' on the buffet line, and answered any questions people had about the menu. I will use them for all of my future catering needs, they were great and the food was fantastic!! read more

I read that the restaurant served breakfast so we decided to try it. Walked in at 10:15AM and found the place completely empty. We waited for a few minutes for an employee and finally two employees walked by, looked at us then kept walking. I tracked them down and asked if someone could help us. One employee left for a few minutes and returned with a manager. I asked the manager if they were open and he had to check. At this point we walked out. Stay away if you want breakfast. read more

Fantastic Burger and Onion Strings! Ashlee the Bartender was very helpful with food AND drink suggestions! She really knew the menu inside out. The Burger was mouthwatering just like the good ole days! The Onion Strings were perfect! Great beer choices and you can play darts and many other bar games. I'm glad I listened to a couple of suggestions to come here. I'll be beck! Tomorrow, I'm bringing my good friend to try it out. Love the 300 Beer tasting is cool, a bit pricey but fun to try out new things. Fried pickles were good a bit on the spicy side. Bar services was pretty descent. read more

Hidden gem in Georgetown for a lunch that will knock your socks off.

Let me start by saying the beer selection is good (though they cant find the beer you want 50% of the time) and Janine is a phenomenal bartender... however; the young staff they have at the bar SUCK. I asked for a diet coke and a menu...i got the diet coke, but no menu. My wife had a beer (the first beer they couldnt find). Finally after being ignored for 20 mins (the young man behind the bar was far too busy pawing at the server girl) i asked again for a menu. "Sorry, I thought i gave you one." 20 minutes later he never came back for our order so I put it in with someone else. Got our food, ate, continued to watch the game and have to repeatedly HASSLE the bartender (and were the only 2 people at the bar) for drinks... once again, i emphasize him pawing at the cocktail server. It was uncomfortable to watch, and unprofessional. Its a shame, the food is decent, they have a decent beer selection, but apparently cant find decent help with the execption of one bartender, who certainly picks up the slack. Bad attitude, uncomfortable pawing, HORRIBLE service.... never again unless they change up the bartending staff. read more

I have been a long time, regular customer. I was very happy with service and overall atmosphere for a long time. Lately, however, things have changed. In the past couple of months there have been staff changes and customer service has fallen to the way side. Most recently, last night we went up there with a large group to watch the NFL draft. We got there at 6:30, ate, and ordered several beverages. In the middle of the Draft another small group came in and requested the TV be changed to the Spurs game. Without any regard for the large group that had been there for several hours watching the draft, the channel was changed. This is the second time in the past 6 months this has happened. Now tell me, especially from a business point of view, how is it right to offend the large group, who spent quite a bit of money, and have them all close their tabs and leave, just to appease the request of 4?? So, be aware, if you go up to watch a special sporting event, it will most likely be changed in the middle of it. We won't be planning our group events up there anymore. read more

I'm not sure I'd call this place a sports bar. It's the first place that comes up when you do a search engine search BUT it definitely does not cater to those who want to watch sports. The waitress approached us when we sat down to tell us she was on break and would not be serving us. The person behind the bar told us she would change the channel to the game we came to watch "when she had time." By all means, come here to bowl, but CJ's is not a sports bar by any stretch of the imagination. read more

CJ's catered the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce banquet last week, and the main dish was Prime Rib. It was incredible and some of the best Prime Rib i have ever had. I would definitely recommend them for catering. read more
