I needed to update my review! They are always so nice when me and my boyfriend come in. We went in the afternoon this time and the food was really good. The first time we went closer to closing time. I suggest going in the afternoon! Patties: 10/10 , I only eat patties from Golden Crust and I loved that these were not overly flaky and falling all over the place. They tasted fresh and they both were delicious. The spicy beef patty was my favorite. All the meat dishes were good. I enjoyed my jerk chicken especially when you get jerk sauce on it. I think I forgot to ask for it last time and the sauce makes it much better. The rice and peas are soft and not over cooked like some other places. My boyfriend really likes the rice here, I actually prefer harder rice but with the oxtail gravy I was happy because that had a good taste. The mac & cheese was one of the better ones I had around the area. Sometimes it just needs to be heated up some more. I suggest going here & trying it out! We will be back.

The vibe is exactly what you want good music, great atmosphere, drinks flowing from the jump. We started with the Tamarind Ball and honestly, that alone was worth the trip. The new menu? A whole moment. The Salmon Pie empanadas were addictive, the Jerk Chicken Egg Rolls had the perfect kick, the Stuffed Crab Cake was rich and satisfying, and the Sticky Spicy Sesame Wings don't sleep on those. Every single bite hit. They picked up right where they left off and somehow made it even better. If you've been waiting to go back, this is your sign. Some things are worth the wait.

My curry chicken was okay but the sauce was not think enough and the curry not spicy enough. My friend enjoyed her food. My only regret was that we were provide a sample of the coconut rum punch while we waited for our drinks, and i should have gotten that one instead. It was very good and better tasting the the regular one. Service was really good. The ambiance was nice, music was playing and we enjoyed ourselves.

It's located right across the street from a large park and the area is very lively and family oriented. The service is consistently outstanding, the food is also fresh every time. The menu is so expensive there's a little something for everyone. And the drinks are always great. Reservation can be made, but we almost always get a table when walking in. They sing happy birthday to you with instruments, making it a great place for a birthday celebrations. My favorite dishes: - empanadas (chicken or guava/cheese), the hot sauce on the side is SO good - pork tamale - garlic shrimp (comes with soft bread for dipping) - pitcher of white passion fruit sangria (way better than getting individual glasses) - skirt steak/churrasco - chicharron de pollo (crispy, juicy chicken bites)

this review is from last friday as i forgot to check in!…read more wanted to try this place for the longest as my coworkers always talked how great this location is. so why not? it is about a 16 minute walk from the path station (newport) it's really not that bad of a walk (for those who don't mind walking that is) okay got to the restaurant and it was picking up as this was the start of the dinner hour. No live music but they were playing spanish music which sets the mood greatly. now if you wanted a quieter setting i'd advice eating outside, from the music playing and the groups of people having loud conversations it was a bit hard of hearing when i was asking the waiter questions. so we order the Tamal En Hoja (one) and no i completely forgot to take photos :( very soft and not too dense and i do enjoy pickle onions on top! okay for each of us: one had Vaca Frita, one had Masitas De Puerco, and our child had Camarones Ajillo. i have the Vaca Frita which came in the cup made of crispy plantain chips. Meat was not salty (thank the stars i'm on a low sodium diet because of my Bp so i was enjoying this) with the arroz moro and the side of lime was amazing. the family did enjoy their meal as we did not wait to long for the food to come. the nose level increased and it was definitely harder to hear what the waiter was asking us. but that's okay we all enjoyed ourselves. what i DID get a pic of was the desserts: Tres Leches and Flan con coco Tres Leches was good (not too sweet and the added chocolate balls made it good too) Flan con coco kind dens but flavor was there and i love coconut (it's coconut flakes on top) I will come back and try a different dish and maybe eat outside. for those who can't handle loud noises best to have earplugs (loop) or eat outside i guess. the staff treated us nicely and my son and i do look for that in places i go to make sure everyone is treated well and respected.

Note/General Review- Pardon most of the photos as they are either overexposed or very red. Dishes…read morein general are well-flavored, though less spicy than you'd expect I was at this small Jamaican restaurant and rum bar with a smaller group than usual a while ago. The service was friendly enough, and the music was audible, but not too loud, though this was also probably because there weren't that many people there. Along with another person, we each had a cocktail while waiting, with them ordering one of their rum punches, while I went with the Island Time, I believe. The drink for $16 contained rum, which was presumably Wrey & Nephew, along with lime, and coconut water, and judging by the cocktail menu, this was likely the drink I got, as I tend to avoid cocktails with a lot of fruit juices. Whatever it was, it was balanced nicely as I could taste the rum, but there wasn't too big a kick. We got two appetizers. The first to arrive was the 'Stamp and Go' Plantain & Saltfish Fritters for $17 served with a scotch bonnet garlic aioli dipping sauce. There were plenty of fritters, and they were crispy on the outside with a soft middle. The aioli had a slight kick to it, although not as much as I expected for being made with scotch bonnets. While I liked the texture, I do wish there was more flavor from the saltfish, though I am more used to that being present during company parties, served with the more traditional ackee. The other was the very tasty $19 Jerk Goat Ribs, served with a jerk BBQ sauce. The ribs had a great texture with the meat tender, but not completely falling off the bone. There was also a lovely extra crisp on the outside, reminding me a bit of bark from BBQ. The sauce had a mild sweetness with a little kick, and the side pickles added some extra spice and texture. It was also very tasty. All of our main dishes were good as well. My favorite was probably the Sorrel Glazed Lamb Chops for $37, served with a side of our choice. The hibiscus flavor was there, but it wasn't too sweet or sour. Just like with the ribs, the meat, which consisted of four chops, was perfectly cooked. Our side choice was the festival, a fried dough that was new to our host, though not to me. It had a mild sweetness as expected, and for those who haven't had it before, you can compare it to a sweeter youtiao. There was also a pleasant side salad, which was served with the other main dishes. Also very good were the $18 Jerk Mushrooms, with sauteed portobello mushrooms served with rice and peas. The jerk flavor was what you'd expect, though with less of a kick, which was similar to the other dishes, with the mushrooms being cooked down properly while retaining some texture. The rice and peas had a nice texture with a bit of sweetness. There was also the Coconut Curry Oxtail & Spinnas for $36, consisting of braised oxtail cooked down in a coconut curry sauce with spinnas (small boiled dumplings), rice & peas. The oxtail was tender and fell off the bone, and the curry had a mild sweetness. The spinnas reminded me of mini gnocchi in terms of texture with some plumpness. This was again tasty. This might be a pricier Jamaican place, but I can't complain much at all, outside of maybe the food lacking a bit of heat. The price and lack of heat reflect the neighborhood, though, and I guess I could always ask for their hot sauce or similar. I would go back and try more things.

I came here with a group of girlfriends for a birthday event on a Saturday. We were sat promptly and ordered a number of delicious drinks that were on the menu. I ordered the soursop margarita and for appetizers, we had jerk bbq wings and the plantain and salt fish fitters. Everything was so delicious and enough for the whole party. They had a special of curry chicken which I ordered which was delicious as well. All dishes had huge portions. Service was interesting. Our waitress was not the most attentive and we had to flag her down a number of times. At Ike point she mistakenly took away my friend's food when she wasn't done eating and my friend had to request a new meal. I would come back since I really enjoyed the food and ambiance.

Sometimes there is an older lady working the front/phone who will refuse to take an over-the-phone order. Sometimes you won't be able to get someone on the phone right away. This usually means that you'll need to go in person and will have to wait an extra 15-20 minutes. She is usually overwhelmed and flustered. She can be snippy, but please be patient. She tries really hard. As for food, the combo plates are a must. I usually order jerk chicken with mac and cheese and candied yams. My fiancé will usually order oxtails with candied yams and mac and cheese. All plates come with rice and peas. Sometimes, we'll also get an order of fried plantains, but it all adds up very quickly. The combo platters alone are around $22 each. The jerk chicken is really tasty but definitely has some heat. The portion and seasoning are very generous. It goes really well with the sweetness of the yams. My favorite curated bite is chicken skin, yams, and mac and cheese. As for the oxtail, it is very tender and very flavorful. Keep in mind that these oxtails aren't the sweet kind. They do have some spice and are savory but not sweet.
