My go to place for delicious Cuban food. I come here very often with friends and family. This location is great because the outdoor seating is pedestrian only and often times I come with my pups. It's located right across the street from a large park and the area is very lively and family oriented. The service is consistently outstanding, the food is also fresh every time. The menu is so expensive there's a little something for everyone. And the drinks are always great. Reservation can be made, but we almost always get a table when walking in. They sing happy birthday to you with instruments, making it a great place for a birthday celebrations. 3.5 stars I was in the mood for a new dinner destination, so we decided to make a reservation at Rumba Cubana's Jersey City location. I had walked by the place in the past and noticed that they had a really nice patio, and I had hoped to sit out there on the beautiful evening, but it was simply too packed when we arrived. Instead, we were taken to a spacious table inside, which still had a great atmosphere with fun music and a general buzz in the air. Our server was nice, but approached us way too quickly to take our order. We rushed to put in our beverage requests, but noted that we would need much more time to study the vast food menu. I ordered some sort of mezcal and passion fruit cocktail, which was very good and not nearly as sweet and full of juice as it looked. I also tried a sip of my companion's Old Fashioned, which used quite a few bourbons, making it very strong. It had a nice cherry sweetness to it, though. When we were finally ready to select our food items, we decided to start with bowls of their "Mama Fela's Chicken Soup". For $4, we were expecting small cups of broth, but the portion was much more generous. The soup was very flavorful and included chunks of spiced chicken on its bone, small cobs of corn, and riced noodles. Though it was enjoyable, it was also very greasy, and you could see the dots of oil throughout the broth. When our server came to clear the plates to make room for our main courses, she did a doubletake to inspect the knife that had been at my place-setting. I had initially thought that the blade had some sort of pattern on it, but she caught the fact that it was actually dirty. When I looked closer, I noticed a shoe print on it, which was so gross. Thankfully, she went to replace it, though I made her also bring me a new fork and napkin, as the two pieces of silverware had been wrapped together in the sheet of cloth. In terms of the entrees, my partner had only positive things to say about his Ropa Vieja, and I concurred that my simply grilled Seabass with olive oil, white wine, and garlic was fantastic. Though the fish was prepared in a very simple manner, it was seasoned and executed with perfection. Both of our meals came with our choice of a single side dish. While my companion liked his rice and black beans, I found my seasoned vegetables to be way to greasy. The medley of cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, peppers, onions, and zucchini were swimming in a heavy garlic butter. Despite a few mishaps, we liked our meal at Rumba Cubana for the most part. this review is from last friday as i forgot to check in! wanted to try this place for the longest as my coworkers always talked how great this location is. so why not? it is about a 16 minute walk from the path station (newport) it's really not that bad of a walk (for those who don't mind walking that is) okay got to the restaurant and it was picking up as this was the start of the dinner hour. No live music but they were playing spanish music which sets the mood greatly. now if you wanted a quieter setting i'd advice eating outside, from the music playing and the groups of people having loud conversations it was a bit hard of hearing when i was asking the waiter questions. so we order the Tamal En Hoja (one) and no i completely forgot to take photos :( very soft and not too dense and i do enjoy pickle onions on top! okay for each of us: one had Vaca Frita, one had Masitas De Puerco, and our child had Camarones Ajillo. i have the Vaca Frita which came in the cup made of crispy plantain chips. Meat was not salty (thank the stars i'm on a low sodium diet because of my Bp so i was enjoying this) with the arroz moro and the side of lime was amazing. the family did enjoy their meal as we did not wait to long for the food to come. the nose level increased and it was definitely harder to hear what the waiter was asking us. but that's okay we all enjoyed ourselves. what i DID get a pic of was the desserts: Tres Leches and Flan con coco Tres Leches was good (not too sweet and the added chocolate balls made it good too) Flan con coco kind dens but flavor was there and i love coconut (it's coconut flakes on top) I will come back and try a different dish and maybe eat outside. for those who can't handle loud noises best to have earplugs (loop) or eat outside i guess. the staff treated us nicely and my son and i do look for that in places i go to make sure everyone is treated well and respected. read more

Their varied lunch specials are plentiful, reasonably priced, and quite flavorful. We dined outdoors and enjoyed the fish stew and ox tail lunches, cheese croquettes and the tastiest rice pudding for dessert that I ever had. Everything was absolutely delicious. We started with the empanadas and tried every flavor, my favorite was the jam one, but all were really tasty. I got the Cuban bowl and it was soooo good! I'm a big fan of plantains so I was so happy the bowl came with some. We also got the Mariscada plate, the amount of food you get for the price is crazy good! The plate was huge, we were very happy everything was so delicious. So I came here today and I didn't appreciate the service ! I ordered a pitcher of sangria and received water glasses instead of wine glasses, I asked the waitress for wine glasses because that's what I've always been given when I order sangria and her answer verbatim was we don't usually give wine glasses, meanwhile the couple behind us had red sangria in a wine glass, she seemed bothered by my request, the sangria came out and it tasted like nothing but water so we kindly asked her to bring us two glasses of wine. We sat behind another group of people which were given a rack to put their bags on, and we had to put our purses on our seats. The food today was mediocre. I never complain about the service in this place because I've been coming here for years. However, today I was rubbed the wrong way.. then I asked Alex to speak to the manager, and he said that he didn't know who was the manager today. He said it's usually Christian and I asked who is it today and he pretended not to know so I said okay I'll call. So I walked away and called and it was Steven and I explained to him what happened and he seemed to be understanding. I have never experienced this service here and I don't think I want to go back. You simply can't dislike a dish like this. We also tacked on a side of Rice and Beans, which was far bigger than any side in Manhattan would be. The best thing about Rumba is the consistency. They have several locations and you get the same quality of food and service at each one. While it is not the best Cuban food I have ever had, they give great service, the food is decent and you know what to expect. For me the best part about the Jersey City location is the outdoor dining. Regardless of the season, if it's a nice day they will let you sit outside. They are very accommodating, the waits are never too long and the Clifton location has valet parking if you're feeling fancy. I've been to Rumba Cubana several times and the food is always great. I love the tapas menu and have tried many of them, the prices are amazing and I haven't had a bad one yet. My favorite are the corn fritters, the tamale, and the chicharron, but they're all good! Their chicken noodle soup is delicious, and their ajiaco is very tasty and comforting - basically a sancocho. After trying several of their entrées, my new favorite is the "poquito de todo" which reminded me of a Cuban version of the bandeja paisa. The egg is over a really delicious rice, It also comes with avocado, maduros, ropa vieja, and roast pork. Tip: the empanadas come with a really tasty hot sauce, not very spicy, but very flavorful.
