Honestly I was a little hesitant ordering from here because of all the negative reviews but to my surprise when the food arrived it all looked amazing! Waited outside for another 30 mins before my order was ready. It's my second time here and they do the same thing every time. I definitely won't be coming back. Additionally the meal I ordered barely had enough meat. It was mostly potatoes. The rice was very oily and when I asked the front desk lady if I can have some of their green hot sauce, she told me it was gonna be a $1 additional. I ordered this food for delivery from El Rinkoncito Whole Chicken Fried Sweet Plantains, Chufa, House Salad and French Fries w sliced Hot Dogs in it...yumm!! I'd never had Peruvian food before but if this is what it's like keep me signed into the happy club!! The chicken tastes like it's been marinated for days! The flavor is truly to the bone. So I ordered vía ubereats and was rather excited to order from a new Peruvian place. First off the timing was longer then expected. I ordered Salchipapa, arroz chuafa, pollo combo con ensalada. To start off the salchipapa was a scam. Tiny cut hotdogs, soggy French fries that looked as if old oil is being used. The arroz chuafa was the only good thing that was tasty but even then on the oily side which is why it's 2 stars and not one. El pollo lacks flavor and is not that soft. Kinda disappointed at this rate and then only gave 2 tiny half filled of green hot sauce. Only one tiny dressing was given for a big salad. Jersey City Heights is really growing on me. Of course people in Hoboken are still afraid of the Heights, something about lots of Latinos and that hill makes it intimidating, but I'm certainly not! After walking past El Rinkoncito and being turned off by its small size, hunger pangs led me and my lover here. "Let's just check it out... if we don't like it we'll just walk out." O.K. Long story short: we ended up staying. And I am so glad we did! El Rinkon is family owned and ran- a super dynamic and personable father-son duo. We chatted, we drank coffee, and got to know one another after we were informed that the chickens had just been placed in the roaster and it would be a 45 minute wait. Now that sounds absurd when you're starving but they tried to accommodate us as much as possible even offering to deliver it as soon as it was done. An offer we quickly took to no avail because we ended up staying to chat anyway. The wait seems silly but not for deliciously fresh chicken. The pollo a la brasa at El Rinkon is amazing! Juicy, scrumptiously charred, and seasoned well. Hands down some of the best Peruvian chicken I've had and certainly the best I've had in the Hoboken/Jersey City area. Don't be afraid to venture to the Heights for some good Latin grub! And don't let the fact that it's a small place with limited seating fool ya- these people know their chicken. They have been incompetent with the order and delivery on enough occasions for me to actually come to yelp. Many times their order will take over two hours and they blame the driver. I love peruvian food, my mother-in-law is peruvian and I have ordered from this place many times before. But this was the last. I ordered a plate that had no indication of being spicey, I have never seen a spicy variation of it, it was a basic steamed dish. When I go to eat it, it is very spicy, my health condition doesn't allow spicy food. I called them to get a replacement order for just that specific plate, I still had the entire plate to give back to them. They said its NOT THEIR PROBLEM that ALL peruvian food is spicy. A BLATANT LIE to cover up the fact that they messed up the order or over seasoned it. Either way, they seemed so thirsty to keep $12, that their business must be on the downfall, if you took resposibility for your mistakes and created happy customers maybe you wouldn't be going out of business and hurting for a few dollars. Very nice people, food was great, I ordered a quarter chicken with French fries and a salad my fiancé ordered the busted a lo pobre (which included steak, sweet plantains, fried egg, French fries and white rice.) Upped the stars ....this place is really good. I have been here before even took a couple of my friends for ceviche , cow heart and lunch special chicken . This place is small it can fit around 16 people comfortably . It is a dive many local and workers visit this place. The lunch special comes with a big bowl of soup and the main dish is plentiful alongside with a can soda for 7 dollars.. That price point for the food you get is very good.. Like I said the soups awesome The ceviche very good But the lunch menu differs in consistency . Example : Once I had the chicken lunch and the chicken was burnt , it was tolerable but overdone. Do not order from this restaurant. Various Peruvian restaurants around with better food and service. This was the third time with a mistake from this place. First order: order was mistakenly taken by a driver and I had to wait for 20 minutes for him to come back and give me the order. Second: via Grubhub delivery took two hours and then it stated delivered and did not show up. I called the restaurant and they were unable to explain where the food was. Third: ordered a pescado sudado and leche de tigre. In the menu there is no word that this is spicy. When you call they do not tell you this is spicy. I called several times and the phone was busy. I called the next morning to give the food back. The answer was all Peruvian food is spicy. They do not help or want a satisfied customer. It is unfortunate as I have eaten in other Peruvian restaurants and ALL the food is not spicy. Just this restaurant. I have given this restaurant several chances but it's just not worth it. P.S ordered a limo saltado and it was all rice and fries with onions and "sirloin steak" was about 6 small slices. Not worth it. Leche de tigre is super spicy. Therefore keep that in mind. Searching Central Ave for some good Peruvian food has been fulfilled by El Rinkoncito Peruano. The restuarant's name is a mouth full. Yet, this father/son team will fill your mouths full of flavor. The multicultural Peruvian flare is present here at El Rinkoncito. Passing this place many times to go to Rumba's Cafe seems to be the trend. This very quaint hidden JEWEL on central ave, has stolen me as a customer. One of the owners explained I should try their fresh chicken. It was a longer  wait than I expected. (remember they are cooking it fresh) When that chicken came out it was juicy with the right amount of charredness. However, what stole the show for me was the Salchipapas. A stir fry of hotdogs/sausages, and combine with french fries, it was delicious. The many weeks I spent in South America. I never ran into Salchipapas. I thought was strictly a Haitian thing instead of fries would be fried green plantains and the hotdog/sausages stays the same. I found this little place while traveling for work. It is one of the best and closest to home Peruvian food I had. It was pretty great and the portions are very generous for the money. I am from Houston and tried many restaurants in Texas but none close to this. Clean, delicious, fast and friendly! Also, pretty affordable. The owner came out and had a nice conversation with me and felt right at home. As a native Peruvian, I definitely approve! Also beware of other Peruvians giving this place a bad recommendation. Really nice guy; damn don't think I got his name. We ordered the Peruvian corn on the cob with cheese as an appetizer (I had no clue what this was). But I thought, eh, corn...cheese, how bad could it be? Have you ever had Peruvian corn?! It's crazy! It's a GIGANTIC corncob! Freakishly gigantic! We couldn't get past it's crazy size and the crazy starchy texture that followed. The huge kernels were so starchy that it felt like there was mashed potatoes in it! Be warned! For entree I got the half chicken with fries. He misheard me because I actually wanted fried rice (but he promptly brought that out for me). The chicken was pretty damn big. Juice and flavorful.
