Chicago Paulies - Best of both worlds- Italian beef with peppers, Chicago dog

The first time I came was right after that article, and there were about 50 people in line, so I left. This Saturday I stopped by at around noon, and I was third in line. WARNING: do not be in a rush! Your food is not coming out quickly. Paulie is a sweetheart, but he is a one-man show, and he likes to chat and get to know all his customers. They currently do not carry the full menu they show online, so I went with a Chicago hot dog, and the Italian beef sandwich. Paulie educated me a bit on the sandwich; if I wanted it juicy (with the sauce already on it) or on the side to dip into (yes, please, I'm a dipper), and how spicy I wanted it (more peppers, less peppers). After a nice chat with Paulie about politics, I headed home and dug in. The Chicago hot dog was perfect, although I had to remove the hot peppers. The sandwich was outstanding; the beef so tender, the peppers and onions adding depth, and the roll was so soft-I could only eat half, but the other half heated up nicely for dinner. Can't wait to go back!

Excellent other choices like a plentiful Pastrami sandwich which can also be made as a Reuben. Friendly service from a real Chicago native & veteran housed in an adjacent building (not a food truck) to a gas station - gives a dive vibe but is great for to-go. This is a lunch only (11a-2p) business 6 days, closed SUN. Very limited outdoor seating and service can be slow because he's mainly a one man show (occasionally has a helper), BUT the deliciousness of the mostly Vienna products are well worth the wait! You can also call ahead for better timed service but that hinges on him not being too busy to answer. Pro Tip food choice: his 'Best of Both Worlds' gets you a Chicago dog & a 5" Italian beef for a sizable discount!

We passed a small pop up tent with signs advertising Oxtail along the side of the road. My eyes lit up when I saw oxtail mentioned as I went without breakfast this morning..take a chance on this sidewalk vendor, or eat trash food at the airport before our flight? The choice was easy! Thankfully, a generous portion of food piled high presented itself, at fair prices too ($21 for the Oxtail plate with can soda.) Not only visually welcoming, the smell was enticing and the taste was outstanding! Plastic fork tender oxtails, the fat was rendered well and the yellow rice was drenched in the delicious Oxtail Stew. Collard Greens with plenty of vinegar tang accompanied along with a solid Mac n Cheese shell. Chef reps Louisiana heritage and it shows. He only serves Oxtail on Sunday's, so save the date if your local or visiting like us on a Sunday....might just be the highlight of your trip ;) On the corner of North 22nd & East Emma Street. Enjoy!

They all have a different set up, or atmosphere to me. Many of the vendors that I came across here are not at all of the markets, so it is great to come here and see different vendors than at other markets. Some of my favorite vendors are the lady that sells the home made jam. She has a strawberry mango jam, and a ginger pear jam, and a mango habanero jam just to name a few of her selections. You can sample everything, and then pick out your favorite for $8. There is also a vendor that sells bird baths that are shaped like flowers, and made of plates. There are jewelry vendors, plants and flowers like orchids, boiled peanuts that sit in beer, different types of breads, fruit and veggie vendors and food vendors. My favorite vendor is Maine-iacs, the vendor that sells the Lobster Rolls, Lobster Bisque, and Whoopie Pies. I also want to try the Grilled Cheese Sandwiches. I have tried the strawberry and regular lemonade which are really good from Simply Lemonade. Often there is music playing, and there are a lot of people just strolling around on their Sunday. It's a great place to hang out for a bit, and then maybe go to a nearby place for brunch such as Ella's American Art Café, or get some coffee, or a beer at Independent. There are lots of options around you. You do have to drive but everything is all pretty close. This is a nice family and pet friendly hang out spot on a Sunday, so definitely check it out. All of the Tampa Bay markets can be found at tampabaymarkets.com. I can easily say that I have been to all of them, and they are all just a fun, carefree vibe.

I have come home with plants, candles, purses, jewelry, and jam, all made from craftspeople located in the Tampa Bay area. There usually seems to be about 25-30 booths of crafts and food, a produce stand, and about 10 food/drink trucks on any given 2nd Sunday of the month. There are also local interest booths - this past weekend there was a Seminole Height's booth, advertising the Seminole Height's Home Tour and selling t-shirts. If you do want to eat something you've purchased here, find the shady section of grass in front of the stage area, which usually has local musicians performing for your listening pleasure. There is a great children's section, too, with crafts, play area, and specialty booths geared towards kids. Also not to be missed is the opportunity to take a tour of historic Hillsborough High School, which is the oldest high school in Hillsborough County, dating back to 1928. They have student ambassadors giving guided tours, and it was pretty cool to see the inside of this massive structure. There is usually a sign stuck in the ground near the front entrance of the school giving more details about when the tours start. The market only operates from October through May because it is too darn hot the rest of the year. Make sure you wear your sunscreen/hat too, because there is minimal shade to be had.

I have had the privilege to order from them a few times recently. First I experienced their famous Nattiez Pattiez. These are basically like "hot pockets for adults". They are garlic butter infused dough that is stuffed with pasta, sauce, vegan cheese and lentil crumbles. These have to be shipped overnight, so I set up a delivery time instead of paying the overnight shipping cost. It was easy to arrange a time and they were delivered right on schedule by one of the owners. Taste wise.... incredible! I loved each and ever one of the ten I ate. My next order came through the mail and featured four of their cakes in a jar. I ordered a pumpkin, carrot, Oreo and Snickerdoodle. I was blown away by the carrot and pumpkin. The others were really good too but I preferred the veggie cakes. Through their website, Vegg'd Out also offers other sweets, cookies and specials based on the season. Like right now you can get a tin of holiday cookies. All their items are vegan and some, if not all, come with the option of being infused. Looking for some great vegan items made locally by Black entrepreneurs? Give Vegg'd Out a chance.

The garlic butter mac n cheese is not what you expect it to be if you can try it DO! I have had every variation of Nattiez Pattiez and loved them all. Chef can eek out so much intense flavor! Normally, I wouldn't brave the crowds to go to these things, but I scheduled to have a friend cut my kids hair that day and she lives in WPV, so I figured, why not. After the hair cut, I threw both kids in the stroller and her family and mine walked over to the rally. My three-year-old spotted the donuts and demanded them right away. (I always say that he may grow up to be spoiled and stupid, but at least he'll be kind, but I digress). We got in line to get some donuts. It was $6 for a dozen and since they had a minimum credit card charge of $5, we couldn't get a half dozen (which I think was $4), without paying an extra 25 cents. I'm glad they have that minimum in place, because you definitely want to go with at least a dozen. If I knew my husband would eat some I might have even gone with the 36 for $16, they're that good! Since they're made to order, they were warm and we got it with cinnamon sugar. These things are dangerous. I had mini donuts from another place recently and found them to be doughy. As another reviewer mentioned, these are melt in your mouth, not doughy at all. I haven't been eating sweets a lot recently, but somehow six of these disappeared. My son ate five (and he's a picky eater) and my husband ate one. My husband said they were really good, but I wouldn't let them have more. If you see this food truck, you definitely should get some. They're fantastic!
