Florida Cracker Fish Company is one of our favorite local spots! The seafood is always incredibly fresh, and the shrimp po' boy is hands down my favorite thing on the menu. The coleslaw is also so good, it's a must-have every time we visit. It's a great place for families, too. The kids' menu has plenty of options, and the outdoor playground keeps the little ones entertained while you enjoy your meal. My only wish is that the playground was fully enclosed, but it's still such a great feature. The bar is excellent as well! Their margaritas and white sangria are delicious, and if you're a bourbon fan, you'll love their extensive bourbon selection. I always drive past this place but never stop in. We finally decided to go there and were pleasantly surprised. I ended up getting the grouper Reuben and it was very flavorful and filling. I got the Mac and cheese as a side and it was also good. I am very picky about Mac and cheese so that's a plus. Not our first time here. Came this morning for a specific meal we've enjoyed a couple weeks ago - Cowboy breakfast that has corn beef hash 2 eggs and a biscuit. Ordered a side of tomato gravy and 2 bloody mary's. Barely any corn beef hash and one fried egg was dry as a bone. Talked to a manager who brought out more of the same hash/potato ratio that was more potato than hash. What a shame to look forward to a meal - and be greatly disappointed. Stopped in on my way back home during a bike ride on the Upper TB Trail, a hidden gem in Citrus Park and Westchase. The atmosphere is Cracker Barrel meets local beach shack. You walk in and order at the counter. Look for the line, find the end and be ready with you order when you get to the registers After ordering, you'll be given a table locator puck and that's how the server will find you to deliver your order. I enjoyed a garden patch salad, with grouper, and a side of fried green tomatoes. The grouper was blackened and hot/fresh. Always a great meal (although it's pretty difficult to avoid carbs.) I've been on a protein heavy diet recently so I'm trying to always eat protein. We came for brunch on a Sunday. It was never crowded the entire time we were there between 11:30 am and 1 pm. Parking was easy, which is nice because when it gets crowded that parking lot gets packed. Put sunscreen on the kids. There isn't any shade so the kids were super sweaty running around the play area. Adults should put on sunscreen too because in the morning there's not a lot of shade out there to stand in either. Future Christina, one biscuit is enough. I got a biscuit and then a side of biscuit for my omelet and my older son ate 3/4 of a biscuit with the younger one not wanting any. My husband got the grilled yardbird sandwich with a side of fries so that way my older son could eat a biscuit and fries which was his favorite meal ever. The younger one wanted pancakes. Unfortunately there's no kids meal pancakes so he ate half a pancake, which was still enough to make it worth it. (The smallest set of pancakes came with two.) I got the shrimp omelet which had a ton of plump shrimp. It was delicious. On top of the biscuit I got cheese grits. Next time I should get just the grits, the cheese didn't really add anything. Unfortunately the only non carb side is collard greens which has pork in it. My husband liked his yardbird although none of us ate the cornbread. And my dad said his grand burrito was good. I like how laid back this place is with down to earth food that's delicious. The cashier was very friendly giving me tips as I ordered. This place hires great workers. Fun, casual atmosphere with a mainly seafood menu. We tried the lightly fried oyster Po Boy. Everything was super fresh. We did need to order tartar which is tasty. The classic slaw was also fresh and crisp, not heavy. I didn't need the cornbread with the sandwich, but it was tasty and not greasy. The 'Ol Shack Fish Sandwich was perfect. After a disappointing restaurant visit in Tampa in search of catfish (where I was unknowingly served Swai), I came to Florida Cracker Fish Company with high hopes of being satisfied. I was not disappointed! Their catfish was meaty, well-cooked and most importantly, it was the Southern raised American catfish I know and love. I also enjoyed their collard greens, and blackened shrimp. Nothing had over the top flavor, and the Glammy's cornbread could have been better, but otherwise I was satisfied. I LOVED the authentic shack-by-the-sea sort of atmosphere going on both inside the restaurant and on the back patio. The best part of this place is the free outdoor playground! It is a great place to take your kids and get a meal. I wish it was shaded for the hot summers but it is pretty nice to go to during the winters. The food I think is mediocre at best. The chocolate pancakes only has a couple chocolate chips on top of the stack. It wasn't even fully melted or mixed in. I basically was eating a plain pancake. The corned beef hash was very plain and dry. Not a fan and was disappointed. The biscuit and gravy were my favorite. The biscuit was warm, soft and fluffy. I wanted to come here because I had a great experience at the other location, so my friend and I decided to give this one a try. We ordered oysters, sweet tea, and fried pickles. The oysters were good, but the outside had a bit of grit to them, which made the texture a little crunchy, which I'm not the biggest fan of, but some people don't mind. Baked and covered with a tomato sauce. Not your normal shrimp and grits. They were good but not what was expected. I had the fish tacos. They were fresh and blackened. The flavor on the seasoning was good and the size was nice but they just came up a little short for me. They needed more of a wow factor. The cornbread had why I believe was collard greens in it. Even though the texture of the cornbread was great it was not great (more of a jalapeño cornbread fan). The kids had fish sticks and Mac and cheese. Both kids loved their meals. They have a little playground outside too. We got a bunch of food including a shrimp salad, oysters, gator bites, mac and cheese, fries, and Cole slaw. The meals all come with cheesy, herby corn bread. I like my salad (even though it was a bit light on the shrimp). The oysters were baked with cheese on top which I ultimately wasn't really into. I don't know how else to say this, but the food was BLAND... and I mean like, totally uninspired. It takes a lot of effort to make fresh ingredients like grouper and local oysters completely devoid of flavor. Perhaps it's better on a weekend, but from the first bite, all I could see was the 3 stars on the Yelp review I had yet to leave. Avoid the Po Boy sandwiches - They're basically a gigantic loaf of sourdough that completely overwhelms any of the sauces or ingredients. Lastly, and I hate to be petty, but don't ask me for a tip in a restaurant where there's no waitstaff, where you order at the bar, and have to walk to refill your drink. I realize it's mainstream now to prompt for tips in all scenarios, but it really starts things off on a bad note. My favorite part of this venue is that they have their own little store with very creative products for sale. Florida Cracker's souvenirs make incredible gifts. We dined in for dinner. The food was very good just a little on the salty side. The vibe is very relaxed, very Florida country style, if you lived or grew up in the country you know what I mean. You can find food like this at shacks on the side of the road and its the best. They have a large menu and so much of it looks mouth watering! If you have no gluten allergies like me you will have a blast. The blackened catfish (gluten-free) was very very good. It was well seasoned and tender. They give you three generous filets with a side. I would recommend this. I love fried catfish so even though I could not have it due to the gluten, I would recommend it! The gator po'boy was delicious and large. It comes with a side and we chose fries with cheese. It was very filling. The gator was great and the fries were a bit too salty. Collard greens were not the best in my opinion. They were over cooked, mushy, and tasted like caramelized onions. For 4$ as an add on side I would skip. Fries with cheese or without were good. They were just too salty. They said they have a dedicated fryer for the fries only which waa great if you have Celiacs like I do. The fries were thick and crispy too. Charbroil oysters were very good, very delicious. half a dozen is like 12.99. They had parmesan cheese and butter on them. The grits were made well and delicious and many restaurants mess up grits, but they got them right and I love grits so I would know. The restaurant is big and open, you come in on one side and seat yourself. You walk up to the counter and place your order and they give you a buzzer. The menu does have GF markings for those who have Celiacs Disease and can't have gluten. The woman at the counter was very helpful with any questions I had (I needed to know if the fryer was dedicated and if the Broiled oysters with GF). The food came out quickly, it was a lot of food and we had some leftovers. There is a bar on the other side of the restaurant as well. I ordered a cocktail and it was good, but even that drink was too salty lol. There sseemed to be some salt added to the bottom of the glass for flavor? Overall, the drink was good, but the salt was not. Overall, dinner was good, I would return for more blackened fish for sure. I would also recommend coming here. Well I just lit $30 on fire. I've driven past this place a few times. Wanted to try it. Stop by for dinner around 5:00 on a Wednesday. Very nice atmosphere. People super friendly. Interesting decor. Pretty cool but apparently that's all this place is. Is tchotchke decor the food again? I just had the crab claws. I did try the soup. The soup was good but for $25 the crab claws were all breading and I mean a lot of breading. I had to scrape the breading off and it was really left with no meat. What there was had very little flavor. I guess I didn't expect much and got even less. I didn't even finish it. It was pretty bad. The cornbread looked okay but I didn't even try it now.
